RedR- most hives won't give honey enough to take from until their second year- and this is the second year for this hive (another will be a first yr hive)...so I'm hoping for some honey by this coming Fall...if my luck holds...knock on wax. lol

Hey X! Good to "see" you! I don't see anything wrong with giving the the old boss a call, he may be super happy to hear from you.
What herb did Kit try for sleep? I found valerian helped me, even though is smells like socks.
Valerian = DIRTY SOCKS! We used to have this growing in our yard. One of my nieces, when she was quite young, brought some in and put it in a vase on our coffee table. Everyone that sat down there with my niece started accusing the poor little girl of having really stinky feet until we figured out where the smell was coming from!:D

Ahhh, off to fix Kit's car. It left her sit by the side of the road the other day on the way home from her clinicals at the hospital. It was just the alternator. She had it towed through a tow service that the police told her to call. They charged her over $200 to go 4 miles!! (turns out, it costs extra for the kickback to the police when they are involved) Then the shop calls me the next day and tells me that it's going to be $600 for the new alternator to be put in. ???? (an alternator is usually in the range of $150-180) So, I added the roadside service to our insurance yesterday, (my fault for not having it on there to begin with) we will have it towed home today for the premium of $13, and we have an alternator from AutoZone for $180 to put in ourselves today. I won't go into what I said to the shop guy when he called me "missy" on the phone as he was telling me how hard it was to do this, thus the $600 bill. I just showed up on my Harley, paid the $50 for the diagnosis (which is free at any AutoZone and most other parts places, just so you know) and told him it will be gone tomorrow. (today) I did add that I work for the largest employer in Portland and he won't exactly be getting an endorsement from me.
Time for an adventure we weren't planning, once again. *sigh*

Hey ladies!
I was using an herbal tincture with catnip, passion flower, valerian and chamomile in it. It was pretty potent and really made me tired, but I could never get to sleep right. I suspect part of it is just having a lot on my mind, though.
We never did get to nap... it was too close to supper time so we went out to thai (mmmm Zeb thai!) and maybe later I'll show X the commute route I've plotted to school. I haven't really been riding in *mumblemumble* so I'm wondering if it's necessarily wise to jump into a 5 mi one way commute... I hadn't really commuted before to this campus because I either had work right after class (too far to commute there/back/up the hill in a timely manner) or it was the first and 2nd term of the program, where literally everyone stops running/jogging/eating right/sleeping right because there's just so much going on.
Ladies, I'm gonna try to get my groove back. :P
I've missed you gals, and I miss riding a dang bike. Stupid knee.

Hey Pax...i'm sorry about your knee. I hurt my shoulder this winter and it's so slowly healing- amazing how much such things can curtail your activities.
I did a 3 hour contra dance last night- wonderful full body exercise that's never boring.
Today I finally got back on my bike after this dreary winter and did an easy 6 miles to ease my rear back in gear slowly...Spring Sitbone Soreness isn't much fun.

You are amazingly disciplined!
Great that you weren't in pain! my sitbones are fairly sore today, but not too bad since I kept it to the 6 miles for the first ride. Next one will be another 6 or maybe 10 miles. :)
But really my main goal is pretty realistic- to simply use my bike more often on errands into town and back- oour hill going home is only 1/4 mile but steep, and it works my legs out pretty well.

Yeah I hear ya. I'm sad that commuting and cycling for errands just doesn't work for me where I live. In another life, I will live in a small town and be able to walk or ride to everything... Sigh....
At any rate, I have to be disciplined right now - I'm training for a Half Ironman on June 5 and I have a lot of work to do. I've been riding the trainer on and off since January, but nothing more than 90 minutes a couple times a week. It was big difference getting out and riding the roads for a change...

Hiya OakLeaf! I've been swimming and weight lifting, bu man I miss my bike!
Nice to see some old-timers popping their heads in here again. Hi X, Kit, Pax!
My latest keeping-me-too-busy thing is organizing 2 teams of 10 for a local canoe relay race on Apr 30. I've done this race with my company for many years, and decided to put together an all-women's team this year with a women's outdoor organization I belong to. There has been only 1 team in the women's division of this race, and I thought that was sad, so now there will be competition. It seem that lots of people will join a race if you tell them that they are guaranteed to finish in the top 3! I had 21 people signed up, registered 2 team of 10, and am now struggling to replace those who have dropped out. But it's all coming together. We had a great practice on the river last Sunday with 9 team members paddling.
Deb, that sounds like a great time!!

Have fun in Key West! :D
I remember when I was 18 (about a hundred years ago) riding a scooter around in the Bahamas, buying a woven palm leaf hat, eating pigeon peas and chicken- what fun!
DH and I are oddly getting swamped with patent drawing work right now- looks like maybe we won't get a chance to get away anywhere for fun- just an obligatory family trip in June we don't really want to do but have to. We'll try to make it as enjoyable as we can.
But I do have my big veg garden and my beehives to tend, and that can feel like a sanctuary right in my own little neighborhood back yard. When i'm digging the soil and sowing bok choy and cucumber seeds in the sun with my bees flying around me, I feel like i'm a thousand miles away from my desk.
BSG - your yard sounds heavenly.
My SO finally got word that her position at the U will be ending in the Fall due to budget cuts (ahh the joy of being non tenure track faculty). We've been anticipating this for a couple of years and we've been working things out financially so when it happens we'll be okay. We will be able to live on my salary and I can but her on my benefits.
I'm happy for her as she's been burned out in her field for some time, I hope she'll just take some down time and rest/refocus.

Hey maillotpois! Yup, still riding. I have a scooter for commuting to work and I' a Moto Guzzi Breva motorcycle for everything else... gotta love the Italian bikes!! :D
I have always loved the look of that Moto Guzzi! It is beautiful. Our local Guzzi/BMW dealer went out of business. The only moto store left in the county is our Ducati/Triumph dealer. Fortunately they are a fantastic shop and we love them.
The Multistrada is absolutely hideous, but cool hideous in my opinion. And I really do like the look of the old multi rather than the new one. And it's funny but I feel more confident riding it than the monster - I find that odd because it is bigger and a little heavier, etc. But the riding position is more comfortable and it corners so well.
I really miss having a scooter. You felt like you could run it down to the grocery store and you didn't have to get all leathered up.

Oh, My heart and soul went into Delilah's build. The 350 doesn't even have a name, so much. I really wanted it to be nice, but one can only really ride one motorcycle at a time... It would break my heart more to have it look like that and be good to go like that and languish in my garage just so I can say I "have" it... instead of someone who would ride it every day and love it for what it is. I'll be picky about the buyer, though. Old, fast bikes in young, male hands turn into old, dead bikes pretty quickly, unfortunately.
Understood. The young guy that works for me is jonesin' for an old CB... it will be absolutely thrashed in six months.

Nice looking motorcycles!
I did do errands in town today on my (pedal power) bike though, and did a 10 mile joy ride afterwards before heading home.

That is an AWESOME bike!! Although my knees would have liked it 20 years ago, now, not so much. :p
How could a motorcycle be hard on your knees? You're not pedaling.
How could a motorcycle be hard on your knees? You're not pedaling.
The footpegs on a true sportbike are tucked up very high so you scrape them less on tight corners, you sit the bike like a jockey with a long forward lean, very hard on the knees and shoulders/wrists.
I loved them when I was young, now the knees can't take that bend for more than a few minutes.

You steer by shifting your weight from side to side. So you're basically in a squat with most of your weight in your quads, and the bike dictates the alignment of your feet and knees - which changes as you go from left to right. It can be hard on iffy knees.

Nope, just smaller ones. Narrow in the seat area helps too (single and twin-cylinder), since the more your legs are bowed out, the lower you need the seat height to be, to be able to touch the ground and support your weight and part of the bike's when you come to a stop.
Some women use aftermarket shock linkages and drop the forks in their bracket (called a triple tree) to lower the seat height ... but if you don't know what you're doing, that can really mess up the handling.
Then there's my nice light and low Honda 230 - overall very friendly to a small rider - which comes from the factory with a brake lever so far from the handlebar that Beowulf would have trouble with it. Luckily I was able to track down a very nice adjustable lever on the aftermarket, but I had to scour Japanese sites, make an educated guess about model names, and telephone the US distributor, who didn't list that part number on their site, to actually get one.

Her name would be Karen Davidson (of Harley Davidson), not as concerned with the best fit of a motorcycle for women, but very involved in getting women into the sport.
It took me about four months and a $800 to get my SO's bike to fit her.

+1, Pax. My 650 got shorty shocks put on it so I could flat-foot it, lowering the rear 2". Front went about 1/4" up through the tripletrees, which makes it super stable on straightaways and a little slow to corner, but that's ok. I'm no rocketeer. :D Changing out my fork springs was actually the greatest handling improvement.
X's harley got shorty shocks and I think we lowered the front, too, but I don't remember offhand.

Might I suggest counter steering instead of leaning for steering? If you learn this technique, you have much greater control over your bike, keep your balance centered over the midline of bike where it should be, much faster response to obstacles at speed and, together, that can save your life. :)

Was at a radiology conference for the last 2 days. Very informative speakers. Especially the panel of women with disabilities. They are trying to educate health care workers to be able to deal with their individual needs in a caring, non-condescending manner. I was crying in much of it. Fantastic. I followed up with the lady who introduced them all. She works at my hospital. I'd love to have them present directly to our whole radiology dept sometime. We have such a high rate of pts with disabilities of all kinds that we work with and as much as we've learned, there's always more and better ways to handle situations. Sometimes, techs can get too wrapped up in getting the exam done within a certain amount of time that they forget there is a person involved.

I do both of course, and definitely steering with the bars is quicker, but deep into a turn, the more you can shift your weight, the more your bike stays upright, the more grip your tires have, and (psychologically very helpful) the more your eyes and face are pointing in a direction that makes sense to your brain gravitationally.
Obviously on a bike like the 230 I mentioned, I'm countersteering a whole lot more than on the 600 or the 650 ... riding position has a lot to do with that, too. But even on the Sportster I learned on - maybe especially because the thing was so heavy - there's a point where you just have to move your body.

It was suggested by some internet Raleigh guru, wd40 to loosen it all up then add some oil. I'll have to wait to see my buddy to open it up though, not a clue how to do that. Well, more truthfully, I can get anything apart... just not necessarily back together again. :p

I've been thinking about work email, it would be GREAT if they could design the email system so when the sender hits submit the email returns to them in a few hours without actually being sent. If they still think it needs to go out, then they could resubmit and it would go to the recipient. Should cut down on the endless stream of silly email I get... and if anything was really important, they could call me.

If it won't stay in gear, it probably just needs an adjustment of the cable tension. It also could be that if it was ridden alot without oil that parts really are worn inside. First, I'd just oil it and play with the cable tension and see if you can get it working. Pull on the cable by hand and see if you can find 3 distinct gears. I have disassembled Sturmey Archer 3-speeds, but it's a big job. There is a thread on here somewhere with pics of all the innards. You can find adjustment directions on the web.

Deb, your comment about the Sturmey Archer 3 speed brought back memories of my first real bike (I had Schwinn before that), a Raleigh. It was black, with a generator light, a bell, and the curved bars, with a Brooks saddle and saddle bag. I rode that bike up huge hills in Newton. It really irks me that I don't have it, because apparently, it was stored in my aunt's basement until 1977 or so, after I left it at her house. I think I actually may have had 2 of these bikes, because I grew after getting the first one...

Most fun thing about this is my SO; when we met she was a cyclist, rode centuries all the time and was really into the sport. Since I wasn't (I was into scuba back then and she doesn't "do" water) we both drifted away from those passions. This Raleigh seems to be rekindling her passion for bikes, she's really excited about researching it and helping work on it... very fun time.

Well, it depends on how well preserved you are and how much smell they can handle. :D Aaaaaaannnnnnddddddd.... they don't necessarily keep you "all together" unless you specify that. Ie: while some of you is teaching eye docs stuff, some of you is teaching a hand surgeon, or spine surgeon, or etc... they only need the parts they work on. You help pioneer things before they get into live subjects. It really saves on the amount of times I hear "Ooooops!" in surgery. :p Yes, I do get involved with the cadaver study/new instrumentation/experiment stuff as a tech since I'm at a university hospital. It's cool and disgusting, all at once.:rolleyes:
Mostly, we tend to prefer that people donate organs that can be used here and now, if they can. Then the rest to "science" if they so choose. :) You positively affect the present and future with your past.

At one point, I was teaching high school, teaching 7 aerobics classes a week, teaching 1st grade religious school on Sunday, and on the board of the JCC. No wonder I weighed 92 pounds and was always sick with asthma... I am much healthier now.

My thirties and forties were similar, although I went in the opposite direction weight wise. Too busy to workout or eat right, on-call 24/7, never ending stress, I ended up with awful joint issues and wicked allergies (popped up all of a sudden). Four years ago (at age 46) I just stopped, all of it; quit my job and moved over to a civil service job where I work 37.5 hours a week, and now I can go to the gym and eat much, much better! After Hurricane Katrina, some of the animals at the local zoo (Audubon Zoo) were out of sorts because they didn't have any visitors. The National Guard troops that were camped in the adjacent park were encouraged to visit, do their PT runs through the zoo, which helped lift the spirits of both humans and animals.
Went and test rode an old Schwinn Breeze today after work. It's a 1969 or 1970 model that rode beautifully! Needs a little clean up of the chrome, but that Sturmey-Archer hub ticks along like it's new.

It's just POURING today... and I am soooo tired from my OR rotation. I geel really good about it, though. I got to 'man' the machines for a couple cases (with a lot of guidance) and the techs said they were impressed with my progress. That's a pretty big deal considering who was giving me the props. :D :D :D Finished out my day fishing stones out of someone's kidney. It was one of those things that's really strange and surreal. They actually glistened and shimmered like cut glass or polished amber. I said "Wow, it's like we're panning for gold!" to my tech. She laughed and said "Nephronuggets!" We had a good giggle. :D

I posted my resume on the university career services site; yesterday I got a call from one of the counselors to tell me I had a few little edits to make. There were 2 or 3 little spacing/punctuation things (embarrassing for a former English teacher, but nothing), but then she told me I needed to change my job experience from "inclusion specialist with middle school special needs children" to "inclusion specialist with middle school children with special needs." I "must change to person centered language." I think this is PC gone amok. I mean, this is a small private university that is known mostly as a teacher education school. If they have looked in the newspaper lately, they would see a lot of ads for special needs teachers... I almost said, gee, in other states they still say "special ed," not special needs. I did tell her I would change it, but that I thought it was silly, since no schools use that language. I'm a liberal Democrat, but geez, I felt like telling this person she needed to get out of Cambridge.
And then, she questioned my master's degree from ASU. She said, "I think you mean you have a Master's in Education (M, Ed), or a MS in Education. You couldn't possibly have a MA in Education."
My response was, "I am looking at my diploma right now and I definitely have a Master of Arts in Education. They might do things differently in other places..." To which she replied, "Well, I guess you know best."
She probably thinks I am some crazy birther, anti-immigrant Arizonan, but I was really pissed.

OK, just checking to make sure it's not me.
DH helped me craft a letter to the dean of the Career Services office. I only addressed the degree issue, not the language issue... I was afraid I might get "sent to the dept. head." No joke, this happened to one of my friends who gave an opinion that is different from the majority. She almost got put on probation!!!
Here's a copy of my e-mail.
I am a student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling master's program and I had a most unsettling phone conversation with one of the career counselors yesterday. She called me to go over a few errors on my resume, which is appreciated; however, at the end of our conversation one question gave me cause for concern. The counselor doubted the fact that I have a Master of Arts in Education degree from Arizona State University. She was entirely convinced and repeatedly insisted that it is not possible to get a Master of Arts in Education, because at Lesley (and perhaps in Massachusetts in general) one would receive an M., ED or an MS. When I replied that yes, it's an MA in Ed., she continued to suggest that I must be incorrect. Finally, the only way I could convince her, was to state that I was looking directly at my diploma, to which she replied, "Well, I guess you know best," in a condescending tone.
As a native New Englander, who has lived in two other parts of the country for over half of my adult life, I feel this reinforces the underlying prejudice where New Englanders consider themselves to be at the center of the universe. Both of my degrees from Arizona State University have provided me a life time of value.
I make you aware of this, as I am sure others would feel the same as I do, under the same circumstances. I do not take issue with her concern over a mistake; however, the value of her assistance is diminished through the use of a condescending tone.
Sincerely,
bmccasland

Might I suggest replacing, or rewording the last sentence of this paragraph? Maybe not "center of the universe" but perhaps to "superior to others".
But then I've never lived in New England. On the other hand, I've gotten the same impression from people who are privately educated, compared to us lower life forms that received a fine education from the various public school systems.

Too late; it's already sent. And yes, this is an expression that comes from Boston being referred to as "the Hub of the Universe," which was written by Oliver Wendell Holmes in the 19th century when he referred to the MA State House as the "Hub of the Solar System." It's a commonly used expression around here.
Beth, you just about said it all. I am pissed. This is why people think my son is a moron because he graduated *** laude from U Mass Amherst. This state gives no resources to its public universities because of the lobbying efforts of the private ones. While I think I got the very best education in my field, in a program that was suited to me, this irks me so much. Lesley thinks it is so open and committed to diversity... but they don't understand that diversity includes more than just skin color or ethnicity.

Pax, your story reminds me of the day one of the male teachers stopped me in the school parking lot, at my last job. He asked me how I got the 5 digit license plate that around here indicates you have lived here a very long time, and is even considered a vanity plate (I actually have to pay extra for this, lest people believe I'm a blow-in), since he knew I had moved here several years ago from AZ. I spun around and something like "that plate has been in my family since 1932 and my grandfather left it to me in his will." This was actually true; it was my dad's father's plate, who gave it to my dad, who then gave it to my mom. When we moved away, she gave it to her dad, who willed it to me. It's such a Massachusetts story :). Let's just say that townie azzhole never looked me in the face again.

It's really odd for me because although I was born on the Cape, I was raised military and lived all over the world. The only place that feels like home to me other than here in Illinois, is Aviano Italy. We moved so often there was no sense of "belonging" anywhere, the human factor of that is something I'm just starting to feel in my adopted home in IL, it's pretty cool.

Kit installed a vertical veggie/herb garden on our apartment balcony today. It's very interesting. She used a shoe rack, a spare bike rack, some PVC pipe and a few U bolts. Then she made an upside down tomato hanger out of a used 2 liter bottle of pop, some duct tape and a spare piece of rope.:D Here it is...
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r155/cbmickey/Photo0190F.jpg
Kale, spinach, mixed salad greens, herbs... You can see we didn't use one of the spots. They didn't sew that one correctly. It's open on the bottom. We start watering on the top and work out way down the wall. Because it's the cloth kind it breathes, the excess trickles down and eventually ends up in the overflow tray, which will be recycled back to the top at the next watering. She used those gel crystals mixed with compost/planting mix to help keep the moisture in the soil.
We now have room in the longer floor planters for our beans, carrots and other things that need deeper or more vertical climbing space. That comes next. We're just waiting on the seedlings to get big enough to transplant.

I attacked a horribly overgrown meyer lemon tree today, the majority of the lemons were no good, I saved a few. I didn't realize Dad usually went out and thinned the blossoms each year. ah yes... Patriots Day- Good times, good times. We used to re enact in the battle road engagement going from Concord to Lexington by being one of the local farmers family who would follow the battle, drag off the "corpses" so that they could resurrect as new personae and run off to get ahead of the battle so that they could die dramatically again, preferably in the town square in Lexington.
This was always followed or preceded by a day spent being a colonial lacemaker (with sag guy as a colonial weaver) at the Battle Road museum in Concord right there by the bridge where it all started.
The kids usually did the big scout campout/ camporee and did the whole re enactment march/ placing of wreaths on the monuments through Acton, Boxborough, Stow and Concord and then raced back home to march and play with the ABRHS band in the Patriots Day Parade.
Unless you live in the area, you really don't get how involved everyone is in the day.

We did our ride out towards the town of Harvard, and left at noon, to avoid all of the above activities, and being run over by the Acton Minutemen marching down Strawberry Hill Rd to the North Bridge, for the re-enactment there.
I marched in the Patriot's Day parade in Concord in 2008 and 2009, with the Military Family Support Group. It was really fun. Last year, I couldn't go, and I didn't get an email about it this year, so I guess my marching days are over. On Sunday, we were taking a walk and we stopped to see the renovations of the Colonel Barrett farmhouse, which is where the colonials were actually storing their weapons. It's about 2 miles from my house and it's only open 2 days a year. Very interesting; it's going to take a long time to finish this, as it's being done to strict historical guidelines. They actually extended the National Park to include this site.

Oh yes, Mr. Hickey. I remember when Josh came home from his first day of band camp before 9th grade, very concerned that Mr.Hickey swore at them!
The ABRHS band was a huge part of Josh's life, even after he had sort of moved on to another social group. We told him he could quit if he wanted to, but he felt a very strong commitment. We saw them play at Symphony Hall, which was a huge thrill. In fact, that was on the same day that we saw Scott run the one mile fun run that the BAA sponsors for middle school kids on the Saturday before the Marathon. That's what got him started on endurance sports, the cycling, and ultimately, DH and I cycling.
Weird, huh?

I know, right? I've been dying to get out but holding back because I was worried about the fork (it's an air fork and I had no idea how much air was actually in it, having sat for a while, but also, I'd never checked it. so I dunno if the shop had, either) and the mtb saddle I had on it to do trainer miles really sorta hurt, so I figured I'd wait 'til I had my ducks in a row to go out. Yes the town did have a Veterans day but not a parade. The wreath laying was actually in honor of Patriots Day- April 19th "the day of the shot heard around the world", the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the shooting of several patriots by the British red coats on Lexington green etc. and were laid in memory of the first patriots (whose names I am not remembering in a moment of mental pause) who died in the Battle of the North Bridge in Concord.
So yes it was in honor of Veterans, just not on Veterans day.
Probably far too much information.

Just got back from the job fair. While most of the jobs (and there were plenty) were either working with kids or in places too far for me to consider/horrible commutes, I think I might have found one. It's in a clinic exactly like the one i am doing my internship at, but in a small city that is right next door to the town I used to teach in. It's a no stress drive *and* I estimate it's maybe 4 miles south of my old school... hence I could ride my bike. My school was 13.8 miles and maybe half a mile south of there I could get on a path that would take me directly into the down area where the clinic is. It's probably at the outer limit of a do-able commute, in terms of miles (17-18?), but since it's a flexible hours job, I could still do some riding during the day, as realistically, I might only commute once or twice a week. The woman and I hit it off and she said they need to hire someone "yesterday."
Keep your fingers crossed.
Fingers crossed for you Crankin!

Plus i can swing around a few blocks or even go a couple miles more to the next town and back just to make the trip longer before heading back home. Depends on my mood and my schedule for the day. Usually i walk to town or take the car if I have to buy heavy stuff. But nowadays I'm enjoying jumping on my bike for small errands again, especially now with the rack and bungee cords on my Rivendell. :)

I put this basket (http://www.ebags.com/product/detours/town-and-country-handlebar-bag/121771) on my old Schwinn yesterday, just so I can errands on her. :p

That's a practical looking thing! What color did you get?
I used to have two panniers hanging on my rack...but they actually added weight and I wasnt filling them up with purchases. So I took them off and I just have the rack with two big bungee cords, and a little roll-up tote bag snapped on the rack. That seems to be just the right arrangement for me, for picking up a couple of things in town.
Once I put 25 lbs of groceries in my panniers and between that and the 35 pound bike w/rack, it was pretty unpleasant getting up the hill to my house. :o A bit much!
Now my goals are a lot more do-able for me.

Is it my imagination or did a whole heap of posts from TE in the last few days just go "kawhoop" into the sunset?

I got the burgundy one, it looks really nice on my black bike. It's a quick release so it's only rated for 8lbs... but it should do fine for running to the co-op for a loaf of bread.

It's ok, Snap, I'll give you some work here eventually... I just need to work up a real good PMS rage and start posting inappropriately until some kind-hearted soul forces me to eat chocolate for the betterment of the world.

Good lord there are so many posts that I would have commented on tonight wildly and freely back in the day... Alas, I have this little voice in the back of my head telling me "Oh you'd ruffle feathers".
I wish that voice would STFU. :p

Nah, I kind of supported you.
I've always hated American cars, anyway, and haven't had one since 1980.

Spazzdog I can update you. She is well and on her way back to Texas, near Dallas. She may already be there. I had brunch with her at Sauls last week before she left the Bay Area.
It's Passover, which makes me wonder whatever happened to Margo? And what about Bikingmomof3?
Thanks for the Spazzdog update, glad she's alive and well on planet earth. ;)

I am loving seeing all this banter amongst the old guard. Keep it up ladies. So nice to see you all posting on TD again. :)
Spring has FINALLY arrived in Kelowna. Latest/coolest spring ever I think. Yesterday we drove down to Penticton and went for a long ride in the SUN! I even got a bit of a burn on my face - so nice to feel the warmth again...

Bikingmomof3 is ok last I heard. She cannot ride a bike ever since her stroke because of balance issues. She still jogs and yogas. She still battles bad migraines.

Rode my bike to breakfast this morning, then took the long way home to get in a couple of hills and a few miles. The weather was gorgeous for that!
Then I got home, saw that my native mason solitary bees had started emerging in their nest boxes- so cute, the males with their little white mustaches! The males emerge first and hang around the boxes like gangs of hormonal teenage ruffians, waiting for the females to hatch out so they can jump them. I did some checking in my honeybee hive (found the queen, she was laying ok), and as soon as I was done it started raining. D'oh!- there go my plans to finish cleaning the post-winter tomato/cucumber bed.

Margo and I emailed each other for at least a year during and long after my weird disease debacle... from fall 2007 until at least fall 2008. She and I even had some hopes of matching our children up... her daughter was in the Israeli Army at the time and we thought Scott might really go for that! Alas, I don't think I have her email anymore, since my computer had a melt down and I lost all of my addresses.
Didn't Lise reappear last year for awhile? Maybe it was the year before.

I got an email from the woman I spoke to at the job fair, at the clinic near where I used to work. So, I guess my feeling that we clicked was correct. She sent me a list of "parameters" for fee for service clinicians, to make sure I was still interested. It was nothing unusual, so I emailed her back that I was *very* interested. I noticed she had cc'd the email to the clinic director, too. I recognized his name; I think I had applied for an internship there, but then I got the one I have before they called me. So, I have a feeling they like grads from Lesley. Yes, maybe it was worth the $ to go to a private university?
I will keep you posted.
