I had one of those frustrating days at work where my boss and other people drove me nuts. Only 2 more weeks. Only 2 more weeks. I just keep telling myself that!

ahhh the short-timer bug. i see you caught it.

i have it right now because for the next three months i'm doing some serious traveling. can't wait to get out of here for a while. can't really think at all.

Great news for Roux! I hope all continues to go well!

Beta- so sorry.... I'll see if I can contribute some recipes to your new hobby...

CWR- Nooo! does that mean I won't be seeing you for a while? ;)

So I got a call back from the financial planners, they want me back for a 2ndary interview, because they were "very impressed" with my first. Woohoo!

My interview with the newbie software company went equally well; I should find out more late next week.

My trunk arrived, so I made the 10 mile bike to the nearest New Seasons (FM was no challenge) given the directions I got at bycycle.org. Nice trip, but a learning experience:
My little shell jacket from this summer- NOT a rain jacket. BRRRRR- WET. Happy I bit the bullet and ordered the good rain jacket...
Found out the worst part of the whole ride is the 3ish miles on my side of the highway, which was a comfort. Who knows- I may soon be commuting that way every day!

just call me grace. walked out of the front door at work to go down to the post office and rolled my ankle on a rock. d@mn the bad luck. its a bit swollen and bruised. i guess i'm going home and putting it up with ice on it. thankfully boss is out of town and not much to do anyhow. got caught up on budget finially! woo hoo!

Unfortunately, they've been driving me crazy for a while. I do have a bit of the short-timer bug though - my susceptibility to the frustration seems a bit higher these days. For sure! But - I just keep telling myself...only 2 more weeks...only 2 more weeks!

Good luck with the ankle!

I really wanted to ride today. I haven't been on my bike since before my trip to SF! There's been too much defoliant and smoke in the air (burning the fields after harvest). It's not that bad today, but unfortunately I'm not in the mood for being blown off of my bike. The winds are 25-30 with gusts over 35. Nah - not too much fun there.

oh my gosh getting caught up on this thread is work. We went away for labor day and I just didn't get back into reading it. I am now 20 pages behind and making a little progress each day. another 2 or 3 I should be all up to date.

We just had the freakiest weather come through. I was taking my little swimmer to practice and it was raining. Suddenly, it was coming down so hard i had to pull over cause the wipers were useless; then the hail started. I have heard the phrase "golf ball sized hail" and always thought it was an exageration - it is not. the hail was pounding so hard on the roof of the car it sounded like an angry mob was punching the car over and over. The hail stopped and I continued driving towards the pool and stopped at the drive-thru starbucks for a latte (cause swim practice gets dull quick when you are not actually swimming). the girl at the window told me that a tornado had been spotted about 10 minutes away and was supposedly heading in our direction. I headed home. Trees were down all over and I had to back down more than one street to find an alternate route to my house. Wowser.

09-22-2006, 06:44 PM
Yeah, I hear ya, Brina.
I set out for a little ride Wednesday, and sure it was sprinkly here and there, but no *real* biggie, right?
Wrong.
Cue hard, fast, angled rain. I throw on my rain jacket and pants and tough it out. Then the wind kicks up, and I'm getting *cold*. I look at my arms; Instead of beading like it did the first five minutes the raindrops are now soaking right through the shell. Great.

I get home, over hills etc etc, put the bike up on the futon frame for a cleaning before locking her up, and lo and behold, the sun comes out, it's all shiny and warm and nice.

Great.

Brina, you've confirmed what I heard. I was in a car with friends, driving south to the Mexican Fine Arts Museum, for the opening of the Day of the Dead exhibit. My sister called me on my cell to tell me that a tornado had been spotted on the north side. My friends and I kind of laughed, "Oh, you'll never see a tornado in the city!" It sprinkled a bit of rain, got a little chilly, but by the time we came out of the the museum, nothing. We laughed again about the dire weather predictions. Then I come home and read your post! Amazing! Scary. I'm glad you got home OK. And you, too, Kitsune.

I had a great time at the Dia de Muertos exhibit. http://www.mfacmchicago.org/

I've adopted some Mexican customs, and this is one of them. It's nice to build an altar every year to honor the beloved ones who've gone on ahead. The exhibit this year was the best they've had in at least 5 years. I'll go back a couple of times before it comes down in December. Check it out if you can. I am sure that the SW and CA gals see some amazing Dia de Muertos altars and ofrendas.

Playing "compare the bikes" before I've even been able to ride Flossie. The seat is 4 cm higher than the Kona (gotta cut the seat post, can't lower any farther) and the bars are 10 cm lower.

The seat feels too high, but the drop bars feel fine. Reach feels fine, too. (this is without riding, mind you)

I'll go for a ride tomorrow, stop at LBS to get seat post trimmed, and see how things go.

The beautiful lavender tape Trek sent will wait until I'm sure what I'm doing with the bars and stem.

It's so much fun to have an obsession....:D

Edit: SKnot is at church camp for the weekend, and I miss him already. (Mind you, this is Unitarian church camp, so clear your mind of any preconcieved notions of "church" camp...)

Beta - Well, crud!!! Let's have a non-cyclists' drinking binge party. It'll be great. Really. I'm 2 1/2 months into my 6 months off the bike. I am REALLY not a fun person to be with, and I don't see it improving. However, I am on vacation in hawaii so I can't complain that much. :D

(However, I just read a post from my PE support whatever group where the guy had to be off the dugs for a week before he could ride - so that's an extra week, there - but YES SK if that flat 200k is my first ride ever I will still do it).

Yay Roux - I hope you're home.

I can't catch up on everything. You guys are great.

Hey kids,

I've tried to keep up with TD this week but have had no luck.

Kiwi_in_ OZ & I went for a short ride this morning as I had errands to run afterwards etc. I invited another friend of mine but dunno what happened to her :( . It was nice to catch up with Anna (kiwi in oz) and will see her again at the tour de pink in October

My running partner & I are doing a 10km fun run tomorrow in Freo. All the proceeds go to the Royal Flying DR Service :)

I'm tired of headwinds but it's probably good training.

We're getting ready for my dad's arrival on thursday. We had the car professionally cleaned inside and out today :) We have a new mattress coming on thursday (the hassles to get items delivered-Western Australia caters well for the unemployed, shopping hours are backwards & service can be crap if you can't be home during the day for a product to be delivered )

I'm sending out an imaginary search party for cyclists on the bike routes here in Perth. I don't know where everyone is but it seems quite quiet out there.
Even on my commute home I might see around 4-5 cyclists in a certain 10km area.

I'm not sure if you are into theatre sports but there's an Australian show called "Thank God You're Here" that's worth a look. They have a website www.tgyh.com.au. I've heard there's a pilot on one of the channels in US/Uk/Europe. It's one of the only shows I make a point to watch.

Have a good day kids
:)

Isn't this inspiring?! From a story about the landing of the space shuttle:

Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper, a 43-year-old from St. Paul, Minn., is a commander in the Navy and was a mission specialist and cosmic electrician aboard the shuttle. She carried out two of the spacewalks, joining an elite club of only six other U.S. women and a single Russian woman who have made spacewalks.
I love that! A "cosmic electrician". :D

Hey Lise

I was at Lalos on LaSalle with some friends getting liquored (you know, my new habit) when the sirens went off. We were like "are those the weather sirens?" It didn't look all that windy, but was pouring. Resume drinking. :) It's obviously an effective system because nobody in the restaurant moved.

Here's what they had in the trib today:

"Thundery deluge delivers record rain, 70 mph gusts

With a 140 mph jet stream directly overhead, a strong influx of warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, and a warm front just to the west and south of Chicago, all the ingredients were set for a severe storm outbreak late Friday afternoon. Heavy downpours hit in eastern Kane, northern DuPage, and northern Cook counties. St. Charles and Mount Prospect reported over 3 inches of rain in an hour and a half. Those areas and many others reported flooded streets and paralyzed traffic. O'Hare's 1.73 inch total far exceeded the previous record (1.09 inches in 1965) for Sept. 22. Aided by instability created by the diverging jet stream flow aloft and the converging winds at the warm frontal boundary below, towering storms built to 58,000 feet tall. Downdrafts resulted in widespread hail and wind damage (70 mph reported at Hanover Park and 60 mph near West Chicago). Funnel cloud reports and Doppler radar signatures prompted at least seven tornado warnings."

Bi-zarre! I can tell you that the Mexican Fine Arts Museum is a very solid building. We neither felt nor heard anything. It's at Damen and 19th, perhaps south of the big weather. Out on my run this morning, I saw lots of big puddles and small branches down. Sounds like N of us really caught it.

Yeah, KN, I forgot about your crucial skills in the Hawaii team! And we could all go over to Kona for the Big Triathlon. :D Anybody find a pile of money lying around recently? :p

Can't they block him from posting? Perhaps wishful thinking on my part.

After years of living as a nearly-separatist, I've become convinced that there are some fine, decent, kind, funny, respectful men out there. Lots of them, in fact. Which is why very few men ever come and post here. They treat us with respect.

I hate to be the one to play devil's advocate, but despite his lurid fascination with women's bodily secretions and functions, in premise he was just a guy who came onto the forum and poked around. True, he went to all the wrong threads first, but the urination one started out as an honest question (not that I like or approve of where it went...)

He had some valid points about women checking out guys in lycra (the avatar with the boys in red shorts comes to mind) etc.

However, being a man, he couldn't understand the whole "WOO! I passed a GUY!" sentiment. It's a big thing for us. We all know it. To a male, though, that might be taken as rather sexist.

*shrug*
just saying, we do have a very protective female community here, and the moment someone raises questions about maleness without openly saying so, we do become very suspicious of them and their motives.

I'm in the depths of the most incredibly passionate crush! Like a teenager! Huge obsessive crush! I can't stop thinking about her! I look at her, and she just seems to sparkle. She makes me laugh out of sheer giddy happiness. I could spend hours with her, a whole DAY with her, and still want to spend more time with her! I can't imagine ever being bored with her company.

When I want to ride fast, she doesn't mind going fast. When I want to putter along and admire the view, she does, too. A ride with her is the highlight of my week. I don't want it to end.

I touch her, and I can just feel my body temperature rising. She makes me sweat, and gives me chills. She makes me weak in the knees (or is that the tall seat post?). She sends tingles up and down my spine (or is that the short stem?). She makes my hands shake (or is that the 42 cm Cinelli bars when I really need 38 cm "Short and Shallow"?)

The ride today was stellar. I have some things to work on (bars, stem, tape, core strength, shoulder strength, self control) but then the fit should be just about perfect. I need to learn to STOP when my neck and scaps start spasming, though. But riding was such fun! But I hurt so bad right now. Too bad I can't teach the dog to walk on my back...

Beta- I'm working on coming up with the TD Drinking Game (for your new hobby).

To do it, you need to have a group of people (at least two, anyway) and switch off reading post-by-post.

Everytime Knot mentions 'Flossie' 'Waterford' or deletes an entry, take a drink.

Every time I make a comment others are too intelligent/polite to, make a know-it-all comment or use the "...", take a drink.

Every time Lise mentions a date, take a drink.

Every time Nanci mentions Choco or Maizey, take a drink.

Every time Chick who Rips has a near-death or a "THAT'S SO COOL!" experience, take a drink.

Every time Bruno writes something that 'sounds' Scottish- take a drink.

...pass out!

Do we detect some hyperbole? Happy to hear that Flosshilde has fullfilled all your dreams.

I have a new crush today. She's a Stihl MS250C. She started every time I needed her today and roared like a banshe (especially when I forgot my ear protectors). She sliced through 8-9 inch logs with ease. And used less than 1 tank of gas. She is a might heavy at 13 lb and I had to carry her for 4 miles. But if she starts every time, I won't complain about a little weight. She has an innovative starter with a spring coil, so that when you pull the starter cord you are winding up the spring rather than spinning the cylinder. So starts are always consistent. Now her chain is ready for some sharpening, and I'll take care of her soon. And give her plenty of bar and chain oil.

I think they all have shock-damping bells and whistles these day. My old Husqvarna was really tempramental about starting. Sometime I'd carry it a mile up the trail and then it wouldn't start. That was the pits. It lacked a starter coil spring and it got flooded easily.

Kitsune06  Trek! I am shocked and appalled! I can understand accidentally going home with a '10' at 2 and waking up with a '2' at 10, but honestly, really, truly... Mr. L.A. is a question of taste!

I'd be mortified if my bf asked some stupid question about girls peeing while riding their bikes... and ftr.... I can't IMAGINE anyone peeing in their chamois. OMG."

Your new Stihl probably has auto chain and bar oilers on her. Check your book to make sure what after maint you need to do. Just like with a bike chain, too much oil can be bad. Drags a lot of extra gunk into the housing. They kind of fool proof them these days. (for fools like me) The handle is wide enough to put your foot in to hold it down when starting. (Had a neighbor guy about 12 yrs ago slice the heck out of his thigh starting one - eeewww. Oh, the stories I could tell about him.) I like the easier starter too. I've got a 270, runs like a champ. I like that I don't have to take the fuel cap off to see how much I've got left - nice little window on the side. The carb shouldn't flood or vapor lock either - there's a wonderful little sensor to keep it in check.

I'm gonna take a hot shower. (or do I need a cold one;) ) and try to get my muscles to calm down. I'll do some chamomile tea and Excedrin and put on my jammies and try to decide if my shoulders will handle kayaking tomorrow afternoon.

I wanna go kayaking. And go bike riding. How do I do both AND go out to dinner with my old college roomie AND volunteer at the church coffee hour?

(and do laundry and dishes and vacuum and take the dog for a walk and go get some groceries and scrub out my shower which is calling to me right now)

DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS

Internet troll
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
1574
In Internet terminology, a troll is often someone who comes into an established community such as an online discussion forum, and posts inflammatory, rude, repetitive or offensive messages designed intentionally to annoy or antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion, including the personal attack of calling others trolls. Often, trolls assume multiple aliases, or sock puppets.

Isn't Nanci doing a big ride this weekend? Called "Six Gaps", I think.

We are back in the hotel since we didn't really have a roof---just trusses (rafters). Will probably be here another week since we redefined in a long discussion with contractor today what "livable, move back in" condition really is. Poor cats are still at the neighborhood cattery, a very nice cats-only boarding place with a little playroom that all the guest cats rotate through each day. I always want to start working there whenever we drop them off because there are so many gorgeous cats to play with. We went to visit ours today since they will be stuck there another week, poor guys. So anyway...back to airplane watching out the hotel window.

It's gorgeous fall weather now here in Seattle. 50-mile tandem ride coming up tomorrow. Hurray!

It's the hour. Those East Coast folks are sacked out.

What on earth is a red pepper sausage?

We went to Whole Foods on the way back to the hotel this afternoon and spent a bundle on various things, especially cheeses, as a sort of stress consolation prize. It was great. I have a thing for new Manchego.

Got 'em at Costco. White meat chicken with red bell pepper and the tiniest bit of pesto, made into a pretty decent sausage. I threw out the wrapper, so I can't tell you the brand.

Nuke 'em for 2 minutes, add a baked potato with olive oil and pepper, and you have Knot's Dinner.

I have silently read all 306 pages (I could be off by a page or two) and nothing brought me out of lurkdom (I am shy) until I saw this photo and choked on my coffee.

I have been silently cheering everyone on, worrying about ill parents, and hoping Lise's dates go well. Welcoming new additions, such as Nanci's baby (even I thought it cute and I am not a snake fan), worried about Roux, cheered when Fish's house sold and they found a new one, a lovely one at that. Yet, I have stayed silent, for fear I did not belong (oh goodness that sounded so Junior High).

Anyway, this picture brought me out of my lurkdom. If I am interrupting what appears to be a very friendly group, I will slink back into obscurity.

Buyer's Regret: The Morning After

Ok, I was so frustrated over being unable to find a taller riser quilled stem ANYWHERE that I bought the first one I found.

Girls, it's butt-ugly.

I held it up to Flossie this morning and just felt ILL. I can't put this thing on her!!! It's powdercoated black, which is fine, but the gooseneck is this HUGE flattened aluminum tube which is wider than any tube on Flossie and just looks awful with a huge H2O logo on it to boot.

So today I will be getting in a bike ride, after all. I'll go back to LBS #2 and return the fugly stem and ask them to order me a Nitto (kinda like what Lisa has on her Riv, from what I see in her pics)

Flossie deserves better. Even though I don't like the looks of a dropping gooseneck, the classic small-diameter steel will suit her better.

And I'm not too sore today, so maybe the ride will be more comfy this time. (only about 30 miles to the shop and back)

No - confusingly 'public' schools in Scotland are really private schools. Normal schools are state schools. Aye Fifer's sound quite like us. But remember - it takes a lang spoon tae sup wi' a Fifer.

Irn Bru is the nectar of the gods. It is the only recognised hangover cure over here. It's orange and tastes incredibly sweet. IMO it has become sweeter over the years but I might just be getting older. It's advertising slogan is 'Made in Scotland from Girders'. For a while it traded on its health giving qualities as it has iron it but the amount is neglegible and its not allowed to make those sort of claims anymore. It's really the Scottish person's Coke.

I thought Haggis was mostly oats, with meat stuff etc... and the 'casing' isn't any groser than what brats etc are cased in... :p Wi' neeps an' tatties!

The Haggis Song:
The haggis season has begun
All over Scotland every gun
Is taken down with loving care
Though some prefer the haggis snare
For haggis are a wily lot
That's why they are so seldom shot
"We're the haggis, aye, hooray;
We'll live until next Hogmanay"

Its flying upside down and low
The guns all fire, but they're too slow
And though it's rather old and fat
It's awfully hard to hit like that
And as it flies off in the mist
Great hairy clansmen shake their fists
And scream their curses to the crags
And stamp on empty haggis bags
And so the haggis gets away
To live until next Hogmanay

"We're the haggis, aye, hooray;
We'll live until next Hogmanay"

OK, you guys. Tell me what you think. You know I'm back on the dating thing. I've gotten emails from several guys in the 60-62 yr old range. That is to say, 14-16 years older than me. They seem like really interesting men, but they're closer in age to my mom than to me! Interesting older men, but not men I would date. Am I being foolish in declining to get to know them because of our age difference? Or am I just going with what I find attractive...and there's no over-riding that.

One guy I said "no thanks" to based on his distance from Chicago. Mr. FarAway lives equally far away, in the other direction, but is 'only' 51. (We have our second date next Saturday) And I have my doubts about such a distance in dating--limited time as it is, and then the travel. Anyway. The age question. I want to ride and xc ski and run with a partner. Not saying a 62 year old wouldn't, but...and then the plain ol' attraction factor. So. Whatdya think?

Kitsune06
09-24-2006, 03:11 PM
Attraction means a lot but you really shouldn't discount someone merely on age. I'm probably going to be strung up and shot for this, but I'm thinking the only concern as far as men and age would go is his compatibility with your desired sex life. As it is, older men tend to be on the 'right' side of the balance of 'confident and self-assuredness' and 'concieted and arrogant' that all men seem to be on, maybe due to age, maybe due to just experience. Who knows?

Then again, between having a husband 6mo older than myself, and a boyfriend 14 years older than myself (not at the same time) the older guy was still more immature and more insecure than XDH. *shrug*

Regarding the distance thing; if it *really* works out, and you decide to cohabitate, someone would end up moving anyhow. Make it be him ;)

lise, I went through an older man phase when I was single - I think the oldest was 20 years my senior - I was 23 at the time. See, there is your problem, the guys in their 40s are dating women in their 20s. I was in a bar rest room one day and this woman was complaining to her friend about this problem - and then went on talking about this guy that she really likes, but, "I hear he is hooking up with some 20-something bimbo" I was the 20-something in question and really resented the bimbo label. Now at 40 I can understand while she was pissed - although I still resent the bimbo comment.

Anyway to answer your actual question, yeah, I would probably date an older guy - i think about 15 years would be my cut-off.

I have been married forever, so for whatever it is worth, I say try dating an older guy, who knows, you may find him quite attractive and athletic.

<<scrape, muffle, screet>>
The dragging of little feet as Cindy ushers her inner tomboy back in it's cage... :D

I wasn't implying that I was going to oil the chain like a bike chain. It has auto-oilers, so just keep the reservoir filled. It must oil sparingly, though - makes me nervous that the chain doesn't feel very oily. For starting, I generally use the handle-butt between the knees method, and I always wear my kevlar chaps and hard hat with face shield.

Lise, Bubba is 10 and a half years older than I. He's 58 and going strong. He chases me up the hills and I chase him down. Comes out even in the end. May it go on forever. Those that have met him can tell you if it's just my rose-colored glasses but I think he's a young 58. Our regular ride friends, both road and dirt, span 4 decades and sometimes 5, depending on the current year's crop of twenty-somethings (living in a college town they tend to grow up, get real jobs and move away).

We met when we were 24 and 34. I don't think it would have worked if we had met when I was younger. I think the years mean less as you grow older. I have always been attracted to older men which, of course, was a big problem in high school but my parents and I made it safely through. Whew! :D I think each person wears his or her age differently. My parents were born old. Bill's mom has been young until recently - she's 96. We were starting to wonder if she is bionic.

If the guys are 62 and play golf at most, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to meet them. If they're going to the senior olympics in swimming/cycling/whatever -- I'd be ringing 'em up at least for a cup of coffee. I know some older guys that can wax my Amici Veloci axe on the bike.

310 pages.... wow... I've been busy back to work and got behind on reading TD. Was going to skip it but saw that BMO3 managed to entire thing so thought I'd better get caught up.

All I can say this evening is:

"'tis a braw, bricht, moonlicht nicht t' nicht." Not sure if the spelling's right though... My dear Scottish Grandpa taught me how to say that when I was a wee bairn. I remember my favourite movie when I was a kid was about some Scottish kids who find a baby and try to look after it themselves. Can't remember what it was called. Mid 1960's? Anyway, I LOVED the way they said "wee babby".

Lise - my ex and my SO are both 10 years older than me. Kelownaguy is 56 and is very athletic and active. We do tons of active things together and although there's a chance I will spend some years alone after he's gone, you never know. I'm certainly not going to let something like age stop a good relationship. I'd take a mature man over a young idiot anyday.

Kracko: I got rights!
Scotty: You got nothing. You mind your place, or you'll be wearin' concrete galoshes.
Kracko: You mean cement overshoes?
Scotty: Aye.

Lise - I would date an older man - but if he was old enough to be my father - umm... no - that would be just too wierd for me - my daughter is starting a relationship with a man who is older than ME  - and I'm totally wierded out by the whole thing!

Speaking of organ music, there was a time I was sleeping in the woods and had to put up with someone's organ music. I was laying in my hammock between 2 trees about a mile from a road listening to bad organ music. Kind of strange. That sound really carries.

The Trouble with Tribbles was the absolutely worst episode. The beginning (the Shore leave conversation and the spaceport bar scenes) was brilliant but it went downhill fast from there and that final line of Scotty's was just the worst

Btw, in the light of this post of hers ;I repeat my statement of a few pages ago that Kitsune is not 23 at all and propose (again) that she fell through the hole she was supposed to be darning in the fabric of the Space/Time Continuum.

Lise - It can't hurt to see what these "older" guys have to offer. I wouldn't rule them out just because of age. Would you want someone to rule you out just because of age? They may be quite handsome and will likely be more mature and together. You never know! MWBR - right?

Update on Roux... He's home and doing great! His eyes are bright (and not runny and more), the blisters/tumors on his nose are gone, he's chasing cats, scarfing up the kids' food, and greeting us at the door and wagging! He's still breathing a bit fast and is sleeping a lot, but all in all he loos great! He's gone through 4 days of chemo at the Vet hospital and now is on oral chemo for 30 days and gets injections of two other drugs once a week for the next month. Then - we see what happens! The side effect of this is that he has carcinogenic/toxic poop! So - we have to use gloves to clean up after him and the kids can't go in the yard. It's worth it, though. They can play in the front yard! Thanks for the healing thoughts for him - it seems to be working!

Appraisal was done on the MS house this morning - no problem there! Now - I'm waiting for the movers to call, so we can schedule the move! Yikes I'm busy!

Cool Nanci! Looking forward to reading all about it.

Thanks, everybody, for your thoughts about the "older men" thing. Part of it is that "older" men, at my age, are also called "old" men! But, as SK points out, you'd hardly call Bubba that. (Funny thing, snap, calling yourself a "FOB"--in my business, that's the abbreviation for "Father Of the Baby". I was momentarily confused! :o ) Before I came in on call last night, I emailed back the 62 yr old professor. He's tall, widowed, and sounds pretty active. He wrote me back about going to spectate at the Accenture tri, and made some good observations. The other guy, Mr. FarAway, is also a widower. As I say, their marriage didn't end because they hated each other! Annnnd, no "evil ex-wife" in the picture. MWBR.

Up all night with a laboring lady who ended up with a c-section at 4:30AM for a 9# 3oz baby. Then I actually got a few hours sleep. :D On tonight until 10 PM.

Yeah, I know I haven't been around. TD can be fun but overwhelming. I can't keep up with all the story lines when my family stories keep shifting also. Not that I don't care about yawl, but I'm sure salsa and others can relate. Sometimes you have to focus on the immediate issues and hope you don't miss anything critical otherwise.

Dad is back in the hospital we think due to some side effects of the chemo. He was doing great once they got his calcium levels down. They put him back in the hospital for the first round of chemo and then he came home before his immune system started to go down but was doing so well.

At home, he became suicidal but Ativan seems to have solved that. We don't know at this point whether it is a side effect of the drugs or sleep deprivation. They took out his Foley when he was still on huge amounts of fluids. He can't get out of bed unsupervised at the moment. You can imagine what the lack of sleep was doing to him and my mother with now provisions for incontinence. So, they got that somewhat under control as he's re-Foleyed (new word there :p )

However, over the weekend his ankles started swelling, his temp went up and he became a bit confused again so he was readmitted yesterday. His regular onco is back in town today and will see him. So, current crisis averted but he is still in there and we have a bunch of unknowns.

My brother is driving me nuts. He lives in the same town as they (about 60 miles from me). He is going to have to deal with crisis needs for transportation or physical help. I make plans and rearrange my work appts, etc., etc., to be there for the non-crisis help times. But my brother will show up even when my parents have told him not to. He's taken over control. So, I'm just staying out of it for now and when he next calls me because I haven't been there "enough" in his view, he better be wearing armor. Though I probably shouldn't waste my energy. My brother (a 49 yr old confirmed bachelor and workaholic) knows what everyone else should do, how they should behave and how his mother and sister are so dense that we need everything explained to us in 10 paragraphs even though others can answer our questions in 10 words or less (and don't dare try to stop his soliloquy).

Whew, thanks for letting me vent. I did try to keep it below 10 paragraphs myself.

Lise
09-25-2006, 12:24 PM
I say, vent away, SK. Here you've got sympathetic ears and a lot of support and good will. Don't even bother to keep up with all the stories, you know you'll hear about anything important! When my mom was hosp'd three years ago, I wasn't on TE yet, but everything else went on hold. You kind of go down into this cave, and all of your attention and energy is spent spelunking the current crisis.

My heart goes out to your dad, you, and your family. I'm glad your dad's regular onc doc is back in town. BTW, we call it "Foleyized" around here, as in, "Did you foleyize her?" "oh, yeah, she's been foleyed for awhile."

I hope your health's holding up, too. I know change of seasons can be a challenging time. I'm eating a square of extra bittersweet Ghiardelli chocolate, and wishing the same for you. It has remarkable sustaining powers. Take care (((SK))) L.

i called my stepmum last week to wish her happy birthday and had the best conversation we ever have had. i asked her how she was doing with everything going on with my dad. she's having a hard time. school has started back up and no one to help her. the parents want to help, but not do the 'grunt' work of sorting papers, copying or anything like that. makes me very     they want the fun part of sitting in on classes. thats the 'easy' stuff, its behind the scene that where all the work is done and where the most help is needed! argh... i need to step off this soap box now.....

my stepmum said my dad has been moved to a rehab center that specializes in brain problems, dysplasia and such. he has been taken off all meds to see what happens. my stepmum says he is more alert, depressed a bit, but walking around better. there is hope that he will be able to come home soon. once he does he will still need fulltime care, but should be able to function in his home setting. good news there.

my brother and sister-in-law are adopting two more childern. one is almost two and the other is 9 months i think. super cute kids! not sure if anything is wrong with them or not. they were taken from their parents because they were unfit (not sure if drugs were involved or not). they have adopted a total of 4 so far. two are out on their 'own' and the other two will never be able to live without assistance. they are freaking out about having two babies around the house. (the other two kids that are left at home are 14 and 27 i think.) i think its cute.

Many Gainesville riders chickened out after the weather report. My friend Barb came up, but went home Saturday. Others just didn't come up. I planned for warm rain and cold descents and hot climbs. I wore a sleeveless tank, bolero, sandals, socks, Pearl Izumi Calientoes- semi-waterproof toe covers worn over my socks but under my sandals. I carried my Showers Pass rain jacket, and extra dry gloves. I _should have_ carried a big ziplock for my bolero to keep it dry when I wasn't wearing it.

I think it was 70F at the start. It started raining almost immediately, but slow and steady, not pouring. The ride starts out with rolling hills, about 15 miles worth, trending upward, then an eight mile real climb. I made this climb at an average speed of 5.5 mph. The top of the first gap (Neels) is at 25 miles- most of that climbing- so I wasn't cold- though wet. As soon as I stopped, it began to pour. I grabbed my jacket and helmet cover and ran under an overhang. I ran into Pedal Wench from TE there! The really hard rain only lasted a few minutes. I did the descent with my jacket on- it's cold anyway even if not raining because of the speed, but I really didn't get going too fast because I was afraid of the wet roads. I had my usual Michelin race tires and never had a traction problem, even on paint. I also had the new cassette which I think allowed me to climb about 1 mph faster, plus spin faster even in my easiest gear. I averaged about 22 on the descents. I got up to 38 at one point, but my bike, I thought, made a weird noise, so I never went that fast again, and never heard the noise again. I usually descend with my hands on the hoods, on the brakes. I felt like I couldn't brake enough. I had the revelation that if you are in the drops, the braking power increases quite a bit- enough to feel in control again, although I didn't feel like I had nearly as much control over the bike, since I never ride in the drops. Before I figured that out, at one point on the first descent, I had to stop to let my forearms rest from braking. I ended up riding with my hand on the left drop for the front brake, to get the most braking power, and my right hand on the hood, and the rear brake, so enough to keep from skidding, but not much stopping power, but enough steering control to be somewhat comfortable at 22 mph. It's kind of scary when you see speed limit signs for cars that say 15 or 20, and I'm having a hard time holding the bike down to that...At one point on this descent, the wind was very, very strong- I could see it blowing the trees sideways! I comforted myself with the fact that I was already more than halfway done.

I would have made the time cut off to do Six Gaps, but continued on with three as planned. I had thought, Saturday, that the storms would come through about noon or one, and I wouldn't have to deal with rain. I was wrong, and it rained from the start till the second descent. I took my rain jacket off for the second climb, Wolf Pen, which is the second hardest climb of the six. It starts immediately after the descent from Neels Gap. It is only a couple miles, but as steep as Hogpen, with numerous switchbacks, even the hairpin turns! It's gorgeous and shady, though. My average speed on this climb was about 3.8 mph. It was raining, again, but I thought, well, I'm not cold, I'm not hot, my feet are a little cold but not bad, I am not hungry, not thirsty, my legs don't hurt, I can ride the climbs without stopping to rest!! What more could I ask for? Who cares about the rain??? On the second descent, it was so foggy I could only see about 100 feet ahead. Cars were VERY courteous. At the top, I stopped to get some pretzels. The first hundred milers hadn't come through yet. I put my jacket back on for the descent. I still wasn't cold, and my feet were wet, but not cold. On this descent, the leaders of the hundred mile ride began to pass me. I can't believe how they can _pedal_ descending like that!! Just about every single one had encouraging words for me.

After the second descent, there are about 15 miles left, trending down. I stopped to remove my jacket for the last time, and take off my toe covers and socks. My feet were like prunes- they liked being out in the sun instead of cold wet shoes. I was happy I chose sandals. The climb to Jacks Gap is not bad. Then there are about 10 miles of mostly descent back into Dahlonega. My riding time was five hours, and my total time was about six hours. My average speed was 10.5 mph. I think last year I did 9 mph. BF did the hundred in eight hours total. Since we were parked right at the finish line, I had a nice nap in my chair with Dillbird while waiting for him to finish. (They have showers and spaghetti dinner at the high school, too.) Oh, the weather cleared up about noon and didn't rain again until we were leaving at 4:30 PM. There were still riders out...

Friday evening we went to a winery, then out to dinner with BF's chiropractor who moved up there, in Helen, which is in the middle of Oktoberfest.

Saturday, we went to the expo, and two wineries. (Brought home ten bottles of wine!) Ran into a few of the hardier Gainesville people at the expo.

It was tough driving home at 5PM Sunday. I'm glad I had today off.

Here's BF at the start.

Dillbird was an absolute angel, for once. I made him a nest on the bed at the hotel similar to what he lives in at home- towels on the bed, fenced in by pillows, and he just stayed there! Didn't have a flapping, panting, frazzling frenzy like he usually does when I try to get him to just _sit_ somewhere. I left him there for the expo, came back to check, and he was fine so I left him the rest of the day. The alternative is to keep him in his sleeping bag and carry him everywhere with me in a mesh purse. I think he _likes_ that, but being out is more relaxing in the long run.

I am quite familiar with your type of fistulas, unfortunately. At work one of the things I do is find out where they are going from the skin side in (fistulas can tunnel their way out to the outside as well as connecting things inside...) or try to find where they are going from the inside. What a mess. I feel very sorry for anyone dealing with them. I really don't see how cycling could aggravate them, though. Going to ask at work.

Thanks all. We all have family issues such as these to deal with. It's part of life. I don't ever want to trivialize someone's own family issues, but I feel guilty at times about not responding to others with similar challenges, like Chick. So, please don't ever think I'm ignoring anyone. I think Lise's spelunking metaphor is perfect.:D

Should I bring over my green bar of Scharffenberger....?Did I tell you that I made Bubba hide his green bar while he was in Idaho? I knew I couldn't be trusted. He opened it the other day and we had a few pieces. It has been re-hidden. We've been together for 22 years; the man knows me so well.

I think we need to send our closest TE member to Scharffen Berger to get more. Ann? BZ? Don't you need lunch at SB? The calories don't count when you're running an errand for friends? :o

That ride just sounds incredible though. What tenacity, to keep going in the wind and rain, when sometimes your best speed is 5 mph. I know how hard you had to be working for that 5 mph, too. Wow. Oh, mah goodness. That looks heavenly good.

Dang this perimenopause (I guess). That plus the 24 hr shift. PVCs, hot flashes, cold flashes (did I invent this?). I've been diligent about almost no caffeine, my only source being the 1 square of dark chocolate per day in which I usually indulge. So last night I started a bottle of Diet Coke ~2:30AM just to sharpen up my mind while we were trying to decide when/if to c-section my lady. Drank 1/2 of it (10oz?), slept a few hours, got up, saw patients, finished the Diet Coke over a few hours. Ate two, count 'em TWO whole squares of extra bittersweet dk chocolate ~ 3:30 PM. Then I was freezing cold, tried to nap, kept getting up to turn up the heat in the call room. Got paged a few times. Heart flippity-flopping with PVCs. Now suddenly hot and sweaty. I know it's nothing new to many of you. It's just disheartening to think that one slow diet Coke and two squares of choc. could get the heart so jiggery. Blech. where's the "blech" icon?

I concur that the CA TE gals need to support SK with frequent chocolate deliveries. And, in solidarity, I will continue to eat dark chocolate, no matter the personal cost to my jittery heart. Cuz I'm just that kind of friend. :p

I am so weak. No, no! This is a theraputic course of action! You'd be denying yourself essential, uh, anti-oxidants if you didn't, uh, order AND eat fancy dark chocolate from around the globe, and, uh, also, think of the world economy, um, Darfour, wait, that has nothing to do with this, but, surely eating more chocolate will contribute to world peace over all? And! To return to the point! To your own well-being and then you can help your family more. Ha! See! I can justify anything having to do with chocolate! And I'm a licensed health care provider, so there you have it. :p Enjoy.

I bet I could learn to appreciate green, though.

And my Jepson quadruplets have arrived safely!

Pork tenderloin, jerked, is on the grill, with onion roasted potatoes in the oven. I have 54 bottles of wine to choose from! The excess is being stored in the Tortoise Table Basement (as opposed to the wine attic on top of the fridge). Someday, I hope to have a real wine fridge.

Lise- my day is coming. I hope I am holding it at bay with Depo.

It's not a very far stretch from "triathlete wannabe" to "triathlete", as many here can tell you. Good on ya.

Nanci: "Lise- my day is coming. I hope I am holding it at bay with Depo." I don't know, Nanci. I'm using the Nuvaring, so I've got a continuous low dose of estrogen and progesterone, but I'm having these symptoms anyway. The only way to "really" know would be to go off the ring and see what happens with my period, but I'm not willing to risk that kind of pain. I'm planning to stick with the ring until I'm, oh, 50 or something, and then try going off. What the heck. But I'm not going through that pain/bleeding/pain cycle (some call it a lifestyle) again if I can help it. Hey Nanci - Great ride report and great pics!!! Your BF looks like a great guy - and it's always fun to see another TE'er in a picture too!!

Lise - Ditto on the recommendations to not give up on the older dude. And I can second the whole "Bubba's a cutie pie" type sentiment, as well.

Finally somewhat caught up from the week gone. To top things off, my paralegal severely injured her ankle last Monday night - the first day of my vacation - so she was out all week as well. There was a mountain of paper to go through this morning. Got through most of it, and I have 2 of the 3 animals picked up from their respective hotels. Have to get the gecko at some point.

Okay animal psychologists - WTF is up with my CAT??? I got him home from the kitty hotel where he goes all the time and now he won't SHUT UP. He's just walking around meowing and I am about to throw him off the deck. (It's a good 30 foot drop). Could it BE that he realizes the PP isn't here and misses her?? (she has a 4 day school field trip). I can't imagine that he's anywhere near that aware of his surroundings. Is he punishing me for boarding him? For having them give him a bath?

SHUT UP YOU STUPID CAT!!!

Lise - I know you've got the endo issues and I am sure that the nuvaring has been great for that - but that was what I started using at the end of February. And then - oops! Pulmonary emboli!! I figured out they started developing in there probably by the end of March. And now when I see their TV ads for Nuvaring they mention clotting TWICE in the ads. Like "You may clot because of BC hromones, but you may clot even more because of our specific combo of progestin", etc.

YIKES!

I am sure it is safe for MOST people, and the fact that you've been using it for a while means it is probably great for you. It sure was convenient, I'll give you that. But please be extra super aware of leg pains, etc. And be super careful flying or long car trips - walk around.

I am wondering if I should report to Nuvaring that I think they contributed to my PE? Not like I'm mad at them or anything - I just feel they should know.

Lise

YES
They need to know. Absolutely. Can't believe I didn't think to ask you. Actually, your doc should inform them, but if s/he doesn't seem to be doing that, you can, by all means.

I am aware of the risks with the estrogen (E2). I also get migraines, and really debated about that, as E2 + migraines with neuro symptoms + over 35 yo = increased risk of stroke. I don't have neuro symptoms, and my migraines have not increased in frequency or intensity since starting on the ring. I talked about it with my doc, read up on it, went to a conference at which it was discussed by experts, and decided that the risk:benefit ratio was worth it to me. Life has all sorts of risks. So far, the benefit of the control of my endo pain outweighs the risk of blood clots & stroke for me. (Not making any recommendations for anyone else here. Let me be very clear).

And, your story, MP, is a cautionary tale for me. I am very mindful of walking on plane flights, and stretching/flexing my legs. Pregnancy is a highly estrogenic state, so I'm always counseling women about that.

Thanks for your concern, too. I hope to have no tales nearly as exciting as yours to tell. How're things, btw, with your health?

Lise - you hit it right on the head - it works for you, and everyone's different.

And the funny thing is even if something works great at one point in your life, later on it may not. I took the pill for years in my 20's - no problem. After the kid, I was off the pill for 10 years (IUD) and it was when I went back on (the nuvaring) that I had a problem. No clotting problems before this, but before I was 12 years younger, hadn't popped out a kid, hadn't developed an autoimmune thyroid disorder, etc. My body is a completely different place than it was 10 - 15 years ago. We're always evolving.

As for the health - thanks for asking. I feel okay, and according to the last echo, the clots are getting smaller. (My pulmonary artery pressure is down, ergo the clots are smaller). So that's good. You should have seen the look on my doctor's face (my internist) when I told her I was doing a marathon, though. It was as if I'd suddenly lapsed into Mandarin Chinese or something. I prefaced it by saying that I wasn't having any more chest pain for the last few weeks and she was still reeling from the fact that I'd been having chest pain at all. But man, what a funny reaction - she has no idea what to do with me.

In my defense, the pulmonologist said I would have some chest pain for several weeks - and I was telling her it had improved... And besides, she told me I could walk and that I should simply listen to my body as to how long, what intensity to exercise. Oh well.

MP,
My cat is very vocal. I seriously thinks she believes we are her kittens. She will scold and "bother" the boys until they are safely in their beds. If one is out of town or spending the night at a friend's home she gets all aggitated and will not come to bed and makes sure I do not get much sleep either. She is happy when we are all where we are supposed to be, especially at night. She makes a brilliant alarm clock each morning. :)

MP,
My kitty Tsuki used to be very vocal. I mean wandering from room to room muttering to herself, then coming back to whatever room I was in to "tell" me whatever conclusion she came to. Very interesting. Probably because I talked to her. I'm thinking your cat is having "issues" with having been away from home for so long, and maybe was used to hearing all the other cats at the cattery.

So I'm reading through today's TD and thinking many things, foremost among them, "What the hell is this special chocolate?" Then I think, well, I have a little chocolate I bought during aforementioned stress consolation Whole Foods trip from Saturday, walk over to get it, and it's...SCHARFFEN BERGER! How funny. I had no idea; I just grabbed some little bars that looked good. One bittersweet, one semisweet. So I'm not SB deprived at all.

Re the spelunking----yuh. I've been at full battle stations since Mom went into the hospital August 1. For the first couple of weeks, I barely saw this board at all. Lots of things have gone by the wayside, and that will continue. I'm just hunkered down.

Go Roux!

SK--arggh. Difficult siblings are just exhausting during this stuff. Bleah. You have my TOTAL sympathy. Wish we humans could have this part go just a little easier. Know it's an obvious comment, but damn, it's hard to watch someone you love go through this tough stuff.

CWR--Nice to know things are a little better with your dad.

Nanci, GREAT ride report! The braking info is really, really interesting and useful to me. And the BF is tres cute.

Lise---No, I got alternating hot and cold flashes too. So we go find Nancy Kwan, let her start singing "I Enjoy Being A Girl", and then give her a zetz upside the head.

Mr. Salsa is on his third consecutive week of East Coast business trips. First week, Syracuse. Last week, Pittsfield Mass. This week, Florida. Don't know how he's staying upright and conscious.

I went by our house today at 3:30 pm and the plywood sheeting was completed on the roof, but not a soul was working. Sure hope I didn't get to pay them to work overtime on Saturday and not work today at regular rates.

Mom is about the same, the nurse at the rehab place says. Which is better than worse, but not as good as better would have been, if you see what I mean.

The laptop we bought so I'd have computer access at this hotel has a keyboard short somewhere that makes it suddenly jump into other lines while I'm typing. That's really, really annoying. And its wireless switch lasted all of eight days before dying early this morning. I can't WAIT to return it.

But the weather here is absolutely gorgeous and is going to be like this all week long. In addition to all the Boeing planes, I can see Mt. Rainier from my hotel window, and Mt. Baker from the parking lot. And we did have a great tandem ride yesterday.

Went to see the cats at the cat hotel again today, and Beeper the Siamese yelled constantly too. Just means they miss you.

Mine's transluscent blue, with all the RF shielding visible. :D

Pseudonyms are always interesting. If nothing jumps out at you right away, you can try coming up with an anagram (http://www.mi.uib.no/~ingeke/anagram/index_eng.html) of your name, or something else related, or the old "Fun Name" game... 1st pet+ the street you grew up on... Nothing too 'close to home' because those can be bizarre ways people get your personal information.

It sounds weird, but people remember the *darnedest* things.

Now I'll put in some bad words about how miserable I feel that I didn't get to hang out in the LBS and that my beloved is languishing, yearning for new stem and bars. (add your favorite Sarah Maclachlan yearning lyric here.)Then I'll DELETE them and you'll have to drink again!

I used to play "Bar Trek" but I think "TE-TD" could be a drinking game to rival it.

Yup. Rum'n coke for me when I get home... and three drinks of it just for Knot and Flossie. (tasteless joke here and ellipsis above, so two more drinks for me!)

This is assuming we play the socially-friendly style of the drinking game, where it's a drink of an alcoholic beverage per incident, instead of a shot per offense. The former takes longer, the latter usually ends badly.

My mind is blank but someone must be online here and you're all so creative... I need an Entertainment Reporter pseudonym suitable for an elementary school newsletter. I have to use it for the next 4 months so it has to be a good one. (I am writing tidbits of info every month leading up to our breaking the news that our staff is doing a benefit musical for our school in February.)

Any suggestions?

Kit, take a deep breath... say "ommmmmm" a few times...

ready?

Apple doesn't make our beloved iBooks anymore. The iBook has been replaced with MacBook.

Our iBooks are now collectors items.

(hey, MacBook has a built in camera!)

In our house we have: Bondi Blue iMac (a real oldie), 2 Powerbooks, 1 iBook G4 (MINE), and 1 Macbook Pro (DH's newest acquistion).

Of all the Macs we have owned and do own, the iBook G4 is my favourite.

I love freaking doctors out.

I do this all the time and it is not usually intentional. I tend to get doctors with no sense of humour and I have been told by those near and dear to me that I am sarcastic. My favourite thing to bring up in an appointment is how I will never know if I am having a stroke. This seems to upset my doctors greatly, but hey, it is true. I have migraines which mimic strokes and I have had two TIAs. The looks on their faces is wonderful. When I mention exercise, at first they are excited (they imagine I am walking). When I mention running and what I get my HR up to, they go ballistic. The mere mention of my wanting to begin training for a tri at my last doctor appointment made him squirm. Granted he was sending me off for more tests, personally I think they just like looking at my beautiful brain. :p I go see a new neurologist on Thursday, maybe this one will have a sense of humour.

See, MP! I told you the doc's thought process was "I'll be in jail for assault and battery if I throttle this patient." So, frozen lack of response is just a self protection manuever.

So that is what is going on. The silence and odd looks are preventing them from throttling me.

Hey, ki-tsu-nay, will you have to take a drink if I say I took FLOSSIE'S new fugly stem to the LBS this evening just as the owner locked it up and walked out the door. I accosted him and said it was a bad stem for a WATERFORD and she needed something prettier. He said to bring in the bike on Wednesday so we could order a good one and really work out the size. So I get a bike ride.

Now I'll put in some bad words about how miserable I feel that I didn't get to hang out in the LBS and that my beloved is languishing, yearning for new stem and bars.

Maybe I should post pictures of my two (count them, 2) beautiful Cinelli quill stems (80 mm and 100 mm) so that Knotted can drool. But then her iBook keyboard might get all gunked up with drool, and they don't make iBooks any more. So that's a bad idea.

Drop bars are better than flat bars because it gives you more places to hang your laundry.

Flossie looks very festive with my wildly colored underwear draped all over her ears.

I just got back from my first ride in one month! My legs felt suprisingly good and I rode at about the same pace as usual. I think it was these great new shorts I bought when I was shopping with MP in SF! Sadly enough - this was my first test ride with them. Unreal! Life gets busy, doesn't it?

I go back out, and a freaking feral cat is two inches away from Dillbird, on my patio! Oh, I wish I had a gun...Never happened before. Zero tolerance for feral cats. ...What's this about Knot's multi- use underwear???

Ahem!

I get my jacket tomorrow... it came in the mail this morning, and the landlord picked it up (they get the mail and packages first, as they're the 'official' address owners) but I saw the package sitting on their table (no one was home, though) so I've gotta wait.

Doing 'om's to try to settle down before the big evac drill tonight. The whole plant- evacuated. EEK! My mgr and his mgrs will all be there, so I can't screw up... not that I think I would, but it's really intimidating.

Then the interview early tomorrow... hoping that works out well. No reason why it shouldn't, right? ...right??? 2nd interview, so I made it through the 1st... just keep doing what I'm doing.

I'll be happy to make the bike to my optometry appointment after that, though... it'll help me chill. Excited to get contacts again after years of not having them... then I can use my nice glasses and maybe not tear up as badly as I go down hills/into wind/below 50F! =D That and wearing goggles at the pool and actually being able to *see*.

Drying my laundry IS keeping me happy! Seeing her with red and green and leopard print and pink stripes and purple and hot pink undies makes me laugh, which also means I'm happy. Plus I get to use her even when I'm not riding her, and that makes me happy, too.

Maybe i should take a picture, but no-one gets to see my undies except me, Flossie, and SKnot when I force him to fold laundry under duress. (he won't fold my "things", he pushes 'em into a little pile and leaves 'em for me) (teenage boys are such fun!) :D

May I please whine? No one needs to listen, I just need to complain. It was a PITA to get a cycling club t-shirt for my swap partner. I was glad to do it, not complaining about that, it was dealing with my club. They were slow, screwed up, ect. I finally got the shirt and they changed the colour scheme  but I took it to the PO, placed it in a priority envelope with some extras, asked for a tracking number, which they stuck on it and gave me a copy, paid, and left my SS package in the hands of the USPS. Well, after half a day calling, the conclusion is, it is most likely lost. How could it get lost in my tiny PO? It is possible no one scanned it, but I am not holding out hope. With luck she received it and has not posted. I am so ticked and bummed at the same time. The PO told me to give it 14 days. What for? They lost it, I doubt they plan to find it. I though the laundry was on the handlebars and brake levers? Those parts are aluminum. No danger of rust. Now I do like the spoke idea for socks. Take some old wheels, mount several horizonally one above the other, 36 socks per wheel, works like a lazy susan to load and unload. Hmmm... what spoke pattern would work best? 3-cross would be a pain. Maybe radial.

Flossie sits in the livingroom/diningroom of my apt, leaning against the wall about 5 feet from the table where I use the computer.

I'm getting a crick in my neck from turning to look at her all the time.

She is so PRETTY!!!!! The way the gold paint glows and the lugs catch the light just blows me away.

Extra motivation for a PayPal acct: I could then order those bike name stickers for Flosshilde. Haven't decided which of their script options would look best. Something Norse-like, but still elegant and lady-like.

SK, everytime I read about the gold jamaican bars I keep imagining the secret ingredient in them.

My dd is getting a passport! Which is good, since we are going to Canada on Friday. originally they told me that the paperwork was incomplete because the title of one of the documents was not translated into English, even though the body of the document was. I was totally sweating that we were going to have to cancel this weekend. I sent in what I thought was more documentation then neccessary figuring that there maybe a problem with one document but the others would cover it. Late yesterday CIS called back, and it turns out we were right, documentation is suffiencient, so The Empress (my friend's nickname for my daughter) now has an American passport. whew.

call your local feral cat ladies and tell them you want them to come trap the cats!
there are scores of dedicated ladies (and a few guys) who will trap unwanted cats and have them neutered and place them somewhere else where they are safe and wanted.

Those cats got there because someone else didn't take care of their pets.

it may not have gotten lost in your tiny PO but it does go to the main branch somewhere that it gets proccessed and my have been sent somewhere else. (i've gotten mail here for things on the east coast, computers scann the bar codes wrong sometimes.) there is a new update with the computer systems at the PO and we have to scann them funny. sometimes i even forgit to scann it a second time, yes its true. as long as they scann it when it gets delivered it will show up on the tracking websight.

I’m tired of working at a place that feels it is OK to work someone into the ground, then they get pissy because you take a sick day.

The fact that I asked for help, and was ignored speaks volumes about PBS.

I don’t care anymore.
