Went out with my friend Steve last night. Had a couple drinks but behaved myself - we did hold hands though. Slept in this morning then walked my dogs for 4 miles.
It must have just been the way that lined up on my screen but I first read it as "I slept with my friend Steve last night." (Not that there's anything wrong with that. :) Had to go back and re-read it. Glad you held hands anyway. Touch is good for the soul. I have learned that in this new relationship. I had no idea how much I was missing simple physical contact.

Who was it that made Chicken Stew not long ago? Was that you Knot? I have been craving it since I read about it. Do you have a recipe?
I'm not much of a recipe person. I tend to just throw things together and adjust as needed.
Here's what I did:
*half a rotisserie chicken (the kind you buy precooked, it was the leftovers from dinner)
*3 or 4 or maybe 5 cubed potatoes
*5 or so sliced carrots
*3 heads of garlic (maybe 30 cloves?) peeled and left whole
*3 or 4 bay leaves
*heaping palmful of dried rosemary
*some paprika, just cuz it smelled good
*salt, pepper
Put it all in the crock pot and added some water, left it cooking about 12 hours. I did try to pick out the majority of the bones before serving it, but that's as "fancy" as I got with the prep.
Right now the crock pot is going with a new chicken and lentils. Gotta add some carrots and brown rice. Forgot to buy celery, which I really like in soups.
Next week I'm gonna make a beef stew. Since SKnot doesn't eat red meat, I'll cook it while he's at his dad's, and I can freeze some for later. The last beef stew I made was really good. Looooooove the crock pot!

Dar - how about going after your friend Steve? Hey, he held your hand and he wasn't under protest, right?
KG - touch is mighty fine for the soul. I'd rather have a fabulous cuddler than a fabulous lover, when all is said and done. And when you can get BOTH in the same person, whoooeeeee!:D

Thank you! Sounds delish and simple. Love the 3 heads of garlic! Think I'll do some crockpot chicken tonight, although I have no leftovers so will have to use some breasts from the freezer. Will remember your "non-recipe" for the next time we buy a rotisserie chicken, which is often :)

 SH****T. I just wrote 4 report cards, saved them, and they didn't freaking save! That never happens to me. Only when I'm writing stupid report cards. And of course one of them was a difficult one that I agonized over the wording for awhile. Sh*t I hate comptuers sometimes...

Have a blast BMo3. Make sure you have a piece of each kind. You deserve to relax and blob all ya want.
I'm back from my ride and shower. Got a bit too chilly for me out there so I cut it short. I need shoe covers and warmer gloves.
Never acquired a taste for coffee. I'm an o.j. person in the morning. Gives me the same pick-me-up as coffee does for other people.
Well, I've got a date with the mall now. (blech, I hate shopping at the mall) Got a wedding to attend and I've trimmed up some parts lately so I think I deserve an nice, new dress for the nice, new bod. Hmmm, maybe some earrings and a necklace too. Oh, and I need another pair of boots. I've about worn my favorite ones out. Maybe a nice cashmere sweater for those cooler evenings. Can't have too many sweaters you know. I feel a CC meltdown coming. (it's good for the FF miles tho.)
Um, got your message just now. (((CWR)))

got home from work... feeling lousy today... I probably have been overdoing the caffeine. Can't eat, no sleep, and if I'm not thinking about it, I start to jiggle my leg or foot or drum my fingers. Ugh. UGH!!!
X- remembered weird subjects that came up last night. I don't think normal humans would understand. Good thing 'crazy' is a popular thing 'round here. I feel like I'm getting moreso every day. :o
I hate money. It's freedom and when you don't have it, it's a cold steel cuff around your leg.
blah blah. Found out one of my friends just got dumped by her gf of a couple years... gf took her son with her. Kind of one of those "I guess nothing *is* sacred" breakups- the type you never saw coming...
Going to see 007 tonight with DGF and one of her friends tonight. Nothing like a cheesy spy movie and rampant sexual innuendo to brighten a cr*ppy mood, huh?

KG-Yes, cuddling is indeed good. Sorry about the report cards not saving. :(
Knot-you can cook for me anytime. What you are making tonight sounds fantastic.
X-I will have one of each. :D I am out of the loop.

X - have fun shopping. How's about something sexy from VS? Of course, we don't want to see pictures of you wearing that:eek:
Kit, enjoy the movie and hope you're feeling better.
Knot, thanks for the recipe. This time of year I really use the slow cooker a lot.
KG & BMo3 - Steve is pretty cool. I met him on match cuz I was looking for a 4th person for my mtb race. He insisted we go out but I was just getting over the love of my life. I did anyway and we only lasted a few months. We've stayed good friends. Then we tried going out again earlier this year and again only lasted a few months. I think we keep migrating back to each other cuz we can't find anyone else and we get along so well. And KG, for the record, I wanted to sleep with him last night but the guy is a gentleman! He's a little dense too when it comes to women but we had talked about missing the touching and cuddling and so we did that last night. It was very nice.
BMo3, happy bday to the twins. Enjoy the cake (have a piece for me too!).
I lied. I have a CS wine here, not merlot. Barefoot brand which I've never had. Very dry. A different match guy wants to talk so I'll let you know how this chat goes.
Oh, we went to a martini bar last night. I feel so cultured now and I thought it was great! Note to self: one martini is good, two martinis and I'm not responsible for what I might say or do:D

See ya, hon. Sorry, I'm not good company right now. Sometimes ya just need a good cry and I've got a soft but strong shoulder waiting on me to make it all go away for a while. (May have to do a stage appearance later to get my happiness back. Now, you know that's drastic.)
Enjoy the movie and say hi to H for me.

How To Embarrass Yourself (And Others) In Public
If any of y'all have been over in the Apparel thread, you know I'm searching for women's cotton boxer briefs, which seem to be out of style and not being made anymore.
Well, on the internet I investigated Hanes comfort fit something-or-other flyless boxerbriefs for men. Stopped at the local dept. store and looked at them in person while SKnot was hiding in the electronics department.
Pawed through the underwear, but couldn't find colors I liked in my size. Looked up and here's this dude, very cool/alternative looking with gauged ears, standing next to the underwear display, waiting for me to get out of the way. He kinda smirked and said, "whatever floats your boat."
I did the embarrassed hemm and haww, felt myself blushing like mad, and murmured something about getting undies for my son while he was hiding in the electronics department.
Damm near ran out of there. :o

Knot - atta girl. Blame the boy:rolleyes: I got my hanes boxer briefs for ladies at Target. But hey, whatever floats your boat:D
BMo3 - Count me in on the killer brownie cake. Thank God I can't stand the texture of cheesecake - one less temptation in life.
Just got done talking to new match guy for 98 minutes - yikes! Hit if off but he live about 3 hours away. A tall, dark, handsome cop, who's a handy mr. fix-it guy - just like my daddy! I like him already, lol. He wants to meet after Tgiving. Guess I have time to drop a few pounds!
KG - you still aren't feeling better are you? Yeah, the on-again, off-again is hard. His kids are teenagers, mine is 4 so we're at very different spots in our lives. He has some habits that drive me absolutely crazy - talking with his mouth full, talking til he's got spit in the corners of his mouth, we parent very differently too. But the biggest issue was that we didn't "date". It was no different than just being friends (except for the sex which was awesome:p ). No flowers for Vday, a little $10 gift for Christmas, we only went out in public a couple of times. Very boring and I never felt "special" like you do when you first start dating someone. Does that make sense? Just very comfortable, like an old shoe (not that there's anything wrong with that). He used to be very heavy and now has a roll of skin around his belly and his face skin kind of hangs down so he looks sad and he's pretty self conscience of that. But he has the HOTTEST biking legs I've ever seen! In some ways I think the fat guy is still inside and he's not comfortable around women. Which I think is why we get along better as friends.
I'm on my second glass of wine and I'm getting sleepy. I'm such a light-weight! If I decide to really put a dent in the bottle, who am I supposed to call tonigh?!

Mine is getting closer in length to yours. I have had it short for so long and got tired of always having to blow dry it and use "product". This past summer when I was riding and showering all the time, I stopped doing that and I let it grow out a bit. Now I don't blow dry, no product, and no brush. It's amazing how much easier life is. Mine is a bit shorter than yours though. I think if it's gets that long, I'll have to do something to give it more body. Will probably keep getting it trimmed.

Then the universe will won't be confused, will know what I want, and I will attract like people and will get what I want. That said, I would still need to train (but no training plan from him) and it will work. While I agree I need to change my thought process, does anyone see a flaw in this plan??? I know I haven't had that much to drink:confused:

I'm too tired to open my birthday wine and appreciate it and take notes and all that. Good thing I have a runner-up in there. Good thing I had beef stew in the crock pot. Frozen, though, and it was NOT as good as the frozen chicken and dumplings.
BS#2 is not as fragile as Inez. He crawled around his bowl full of shavings the whole two hour ride home, then I opened up his container so BF could see what he'd bought me for my birthday, and he crawled right out into my hand. He's jumpy, and not the kind that coils around to hang on. He digs with his pointy little snout. The guy told me he was 6-8 inches, but I measured him at 14" without even really stretching him out. Adult size is about 20".
I just took a bath and washed my hair! I don't get where the bug came from. It was one of those little ones that gets in flour and cereal. Nice.

Can't wait till the snake store is open to go buy home furnishings. I can't decide- 10 gallon or 20 gallon. That's 20" long vs 30" long. If I got a 10, he could go on my dresser next to Addy and use the same thermostat. If I got a 20, he could go on the dresser and Addy could move to the computer room. But what I really want is for him to be on a wrought iron stand in the living room like Choco and Inez, so I can look at him all the time. But there is not room, because BF has this giant storage container that won't go anywhere else. But I could put it somewhere temporarily until we get the second shed when we get our tax refunds, so the MC can go in the shed and the lawnmower can stop living in a tent like a homeless person...I _could_ buy a 10 and move him up to a 20 later- but not much fits in a 10 as an adult- so then I'd be stuck with two 10's, since I don't envision Addy as a permanent resident, unless she has a change of eating habits very soon.

That picture was probably taken in Brevard, where the Davidson River campground is, and Dupont Forest, where my favorite MTB trail ever, is. Probably on Black Mountain. It could also have been at Bryson City, which is where Tsali is, which is my favorite MTB camping place, on Lake Fontana.
NC has both EXCELLENT MTBing, and I've heard, but not ridden, excellent road riding, if you like mountains. MTB trails vary from nice to psycho. Wonderful hiking and camping and kayaking and trout fishing, too. And rafting, I guess.

I'm awake. Barely. I need coffee. And a brownie. Gotta go buy some rice-flour brownie mix.
Why is it when someone nudges you (literally or electronically) cuz they can't sleep, "Hey, wake up, I can't sleep!" YOU end up wide awake, and THEY go off to blissful slumber? Wonder if it's some old pack-animal instinct: when we are feeling disturbed and anxious in the night, someone's gotta be awake and watching for predators.
Yup ladies, I am the meerkat on sentry duty for jackals and snakes and boogymen while the rest of my meerkat colony sleeps contentedly knowing they are safely under my watchful gaze.
A duty I am happy to perform, after some coffee.
'Course it's almost time to get up here anyway.
Today is exDPITA's birthday. Now THERE'S a boogyman to watch out for...
Nanci, happy birthday yesterday!
Did anyone see the Leonids? It was cloudy here.
Yesterday I went to a friend's house to bike with her and her two kids. Her 3 year old was talking about how much he wanted to ride in the bike trailer, and we were planning to put the 3 month old in the trailer as well. So I get to her house and the conversation goes like this:
Her: I need to pump before we leave.
Me: Your tires or your boobs?
Her: Actually, both (good thing I reminded her about the tires)
Me: OK, I'll pump the tires, you pump the boobs.
Her: Can we trade? I'm tired of pumping boobs.
At which point her wife cracks up, picturing me pumping her boobs while
she pumps tires. The breast pump is electric - it wouldn't have been too
hard. But alas, I stuck with pumping tires.
The next comedy of errors is when we attempt to put both kids in the bike trailer
and discover that the infant's car seat takes up almost the whole trailer. Next
plan: Take the kids one at a time. And do what with the other kid? Final plan:
one of us rides the 3-year-old to the high school while the other one walks there
with the infant. The 3-year-old wants me to pull him in the trailer, so I try to
attach my bike to it and discover that my rear wheel computer sensor is in
the way. So I attach her bike and put on her shoes (good thing we are the same size)
and ride 1 mile to the high school, then ride round and round the parking lot and over the speed bumps. Nolan loves it. Friend and baby show up. She rides the bike around the parking lot a couple times, so she can say that she did it this year. I ride around the parking lot some more and then back to the house. We take the child's enjoyment as the measure of a successful ride.
Because I rode my friend's bike, this happened to be the first time I used SPD pedals or STI shifters (other than working on them). Made me appreciate my Speedplays and downtube shifters. Now I see why people complain about front derailleurs. And braking was strange with levers that move back and forth as well as in and out.

007 was good, but Bond wasn't as smooth as he always used to be. The other movies portray him with this very dry, smooth sense of humor, well-thought-out everything, and whatnot... this one seemed more to be geared to the average 'action-movie audience'... lots of fire and explosions, a bit less wit, etc etc. That and I had to complain that if this is 'supposedly' the first chronologically, wtf are they doing with palms and cell phones etc etc?
Bond has left the cold war... *sigh*

Snap - cute hubby! **wink, wink, growl, wink**
DAR - cute little boy, looks a lot like you. **where's the Aaaaawwww smilie?**
Knot - Sorry about the undies situation there. I can't go near the Jockey store without spending at least $70. I guess I could risk it and leave the CC outside in the car. Or maybe at home. Locked in the safe. With and armed guard on watch. And a mean looking dog named 'Razor'.
BMo3 - you wild woman you. You can really put 'em away when you need to. 'WE' most definitely got obliterated enough for 2 people last night. :D You had a fantastic time, I must say. Man, when you let your hair down, you really let it down. I have some interesting new bruises and can't figure out how they got there. hmmm... must have been the mosh pit. :D
Nanci - I like Zed too. Also Ziba (friend's name - means 'beautiful' in Persian), Zack, Zephyr, Zahara, Zeke, Zion (nod to Matrix movie and a biblical reference), Zander
X - are around here we call 'em "f*ck me boots". In fact, today I just told dh I need to go buy some f-me shoes for the staff christmas party. :)
Yeah, that's what we call them here too Kel, but I was being as good a girl as I could be in my inebriated state. (yeah, you're right, Carrie made me change it :o ) No, I didn't wear them last night. I had a hard enough time navigating on lower heels. Besides, we knew that we'd be up dancing too. Don't want to end up in my own hospital. Can hear it now... ER Doc: "How'd it happen?" EMT: "f*ck me boots." Doc: "Ahhhhh, yes of course. Tell xray to get plenty of pics, this is gonna be fun for a while." Believe me, the less they know, the better off I am. ;)
Kit - So glad you blew off some steam too. Thought I was gonna have to call ya and give you my Bronx accent again. We don't want to have to go there again, now do we? :p Sake and sushi, huh? Wish I could have been there. Looove sushi. Band was great as usual. Went to another bar after that too. (I needed to sober up a bit, don't cha know.) Sang one for ya last night woman. Did ya hear it way out there? The rest of what's in my head will wait. I'll have to PM ya later instead.
I've already had b-fast, showered, scrubbed the fur off my teeth (blech) ran a load of laundry, cleaned the kitchen and now get to relax for a bit. I'm so happy I don't get hangovers. (There is a God and she loves me.) I'm riding with AllezGirl and Offthegrid later today up by AG's house. Was gonna try to get a local friend to come along, but she's still getting over her bronchitis. Haven't met OTG in person yet, should be cool. So nice having PA TE'ers close enough to ride with. Supposed to be a paved trail that we can use our road bikes on. Then dinner after. BTW, hey, OTG... did ya get your internet fixed yet? You know, if you molest the cable dude a little, you'll get better service.
Well, I'm off to see the wizard. Have a great day ladies and be safe.
Oh, wait, hah, I see that! Knot, back away from the brownies. You know what that leads to. Take it slow and no one will get hurt. That's it, ease away. Ok now, go phone a friend or something dear, it's much more satisfying. (Phew, potential chocolate tragedy averted.)

Well, I'm glad I stayed off the thread last night. Hubby is gone and it seems when he is gone I tend to eat all the bad things. Pizza, chocolate, etc. Well, sure enough last night I had huge cravings for chocolate and almost whipped up a batch of brownies - but I think I was too lazy and didn't want to waste them since I'm leaving for Florida tomorrow! My will power won out but if I had gotten on this thread I'm sure I would have been doomed!
Nanci Glad you had a nice birthday - Zorro is good - how about Zither?
All the pics are great! No one looks fat so stop all the complaining - you look great all of you!
BMO3 - A couple of years ago I decided to go red - dark unnatural red! It was great and I had fun with it but I finally decided to try to go back to my natural color (No not gray although that is what it is now) more like dishwater blond! It took me a whole year to get it that color cause I didn't want to have pink hair or just destroy my hair by bleaching it. So over the last year, I have been every color in the book - it was actually kind of fun.

Trying HARD to avoid eating brownies for breakfast. Argh. How did I manage to gain 2 lbs in one day I wanna know??!!
X - you are one partying girl! How do you do it? I used to get brutal hangovers, even quit drinking for almost 20 years because they were so bad. Don't get them at all anymore, just tired or a bit of a headache that goes away with drugs.
DebW - LOL on pumping tires and boobs - sounds like a lotta work to go riding. Probably why I didn't ride when my kids were little.
Nanci - I wondered if that was Dill. Have you decided on a name for the new snake yet?
Pirate talk, Scottish talk, X-Kits code, Knot deleting every second post - I can barely keep up with the plain english let alone the weird stuff! I'm with you BMo3, I feel uncool :o
Well back to the report cards. Going to finish them today so I can watch the Grey Cup this afternoon. Nothing like a sub-zero Canadian fotoball game. You watching it, CC?? No, I guess you'll probably be sleeping...

Ah, fall. I'm so, so sorely tempted to go out squirrel hunting, clean, and throw together a stew, but my luck, DGF would somehow 'know'. She feeds squirrels off ouf back porch. By hand. And names them. All. Me? I think they all look alike, and though I've fed them by hand, I feel like one of those cats that sits in front of the bird feeder the *whole* time. I don't think it's 'far off' hasenfeffer. hmm.
Must be the wisconsin girl in me. I see naked trees and cold winds, and I'm thinking "Gotta go hunting! Squirrel! Venison! Hasenfeffer! Quail! Turkey!"
...but being in OR it's turning into "Um... Squab? Squirrel? maybe Quail if I'm sneaky... and the neighbor has peacocks and they *Act* like turkeys... *sigh*"
Boo.

My upstairs neighbor has been more-or-less living at her gf's house. She just came home for something, and the sound of her walking around on my ceiling was very startling!
She's hardly ever home anymore. I'm hoping she keeps her apt, cuz she's a really nice neighbor. (and not just cuz she's gone all the time, she's also just really nice.)
Edit: well, there she goes, back down the stairs and off to the gf's again. Hi! Bye!

Bikingmomof3 "I used to party very, very well. :D Never had a hangover in my life."
I've had 1 (count them, one) hangover. That was over 30 years ago.
One (1) was enough. My high school buds Ann, Kathy, Mary and Sarah set out on "project get Trek drunk" and succeeded.
Thank you all for allowing me to be hung over vicariously. :)
Knott, is this the upstairs neighbor who you thought is such a "catch" that I should come up there to meet her because her GF is not treating her well? Is this the same GF that she's off with all the time? Or another one. I hope she's found another one, who treats her well :)
My neighbor, on the other hand, is sanding and has been as well as power nailing from way to early on a Sunday. Sounds like getting ready to paint. There've been lots of contractors in and out, sometimes parked *ahem* in front of my car port. He's probably getting ready to turn the place. Hope when he sells the next family does *not* have a kid who teases my dog.
Ah, the joy of living though a remodel. Oh joy.
Ah TE TD, there's the drifters, our neighbors, coworkers....no one is safe.

Not everything gets put on TD, ya know. ;) She was nice enough to let me out of my cage for a while. Just needed some TLC in person. All better, at least for the moment.

Now, there's ANOTHER project idea! How 'bout "Project Get Trek Happily Tipsy" (not drunk, no hangovers)
C'mon everyone! Hot cocoa and peppermint schnapps, hot spiced cider, warm cinnamon rolls, good chocolate truffles, and holiday music at my house tonight! I'll put a log in the fireplace, light a couple candle lanterns, and we can decorate my porch with Christmas lights for folks who wanna go outside for a bit. We'll get out some board games for the kids (and adults!) to play. No computer or TV tonight!
Can someone bring a plate of fruit and cheese?

Taken moments after we 'met' at the Oregon Country Fair. At that point, she didn't even know my name. :D Sadly, right after we moved in together, my digicam died, so I don't have much more for pics of us... :( But this one's my favorite :D
Ah, hair henna-ing. So much cheaper than dye. $5 for maybe 3 or 4 dyes (if you have short hair...) but I can never get past the weirdness of spreading warm, wet organic sludge through my hair.
I know I should time it, but I like the element of 'surprise'. just put it on, put on the obligatory plastic cap and then a warm woolly stocking cap and let 'er go for a couple hours. Will it be red, or will it be vibrantly orange/red? Who knows? :D
Knot- that sounds so good... hot chocolate, peppermind schnaaps (or white creme de menthe) and all the TD gals 'round. *happy sigh*

Kelowna,
Yes we both have kids but they were pretty grown up already when Brian and I met 7 1/2 years ago. All 3 kids are in their 20's now (2 girls mine, 1 son Brian's).
Kit, that's a lovely photo- too cute that you had just met.
Henna...did it once, but over my natural dark blonde hair, and it came out looking like a carrot on fire.   Looked really awful on me. But happily I like my silver streaks now and don't even have to "deal" anymore. Don't even really have to brush my hair- it just looks fine ruffled around a bit in the morning. ;)
Here's a couple of my favorite pix:

woo woo!!!! nice pics :D There's a sign I pass every day on my way to work. Someday I'm going to get a pic of myself in front of it. :D
Flaming carrot- yeah, that's about accurate. my hair goes from naturally reddish brown to ashen blonde, so when I henna it, the ashen blonde bits are 'flaming carrot' and the natural reddish brown bits are more auburn, so it comes out looking pretty 'natural' if not especially um...vibrant.

OH! I thought the same thing about the 1st pic. It'd be a great 'American Gothic' setup!
Thanks for the compliment. :D I'm all anxious to have her home this afternoon. It's rainy, so it's perfect cuddlin' weather. :D

memo to self: do not sign for bicycle rides with more rides that your hometown had when you graduated from high school.
I made it 109 miles without falling off my bike! Yeah! Aside from my Jacket that kept on falling out of my jersey (it was a leftover from when I weighed 300+), and having to for the road to clear up enough to pass. Not to mention the 500+ mile one-way drive. I'm probably going to bump an El Tour thread so the non-TD ladies can blab. And this was good practice , since I'm supposed to visit my mom in a couple of weeks , and she only has dial-up. (this means you all will have a Photo posting contest, then. right? )

I think i'm going to do this a different way for you all. I am going to show my new haircut and one of my cousins (from my recent trip to Italy). This one's name is Cicciu figlio di Saverio
to everyone that knows him. He's one of a MILLION Francesco Torchia's in their town, so to differentiate from the others he has this nickname.
when he talks I can hardly understand him because he speaks dialect.. and likes to quote old sayings.

I think that pic of Kit proves to Margo that she really is 22(ish?). If she's not, then she's clearly younger, not older. :)
I'm so jealous of all of you who get to go riding with fellow TE'ers. Wish some lived way up here. Well actually, I could go ride with LBTC in Vernon but she mainly MTbikes and I have a long way to go to improve my tech skills.

Wow! Mimi! Check out that family resemblance! Very cool!
I've been thwarted in my alcoholic endevours. I was gonna have peppermint schnapps in hot cocoa and brownies for a friend who is coming over. (we've made a little tradition of getting together to watch "The Amazing Race" lately. And we gossip about the ridiculous soap opera that is my life.)
Well, I went to the liquor store to get the schnapps, and they are closed on Sundays! Lets you know how often I buy hard booze, eh? So I went to the grocery store and bought a Barefoot Merlot. Not to put in the cocoa, but should go well with the brownies. (I'm testing it right now to be sure. :D )
BTW, for you non-Washingtonians, liquor is only sold in state-run liquor stores here.

I'm drinking a really different white wine that I picked up a little winery when we were away on another of our "honeymoons" a few weeks ago. It's called Suntuoso. Really different and quite yummy.
We can only buy liquor in liquor stores too, also closed today. We have beer and wine stores now, relatively new concept here, but I don't know if they're open on Sundays or not. I'm so used to not being able to buy on Sunday I always make sure we're stocked up. In BC, it's easier to buy pot than booze. :D
Kitsune06
11-19-2006, 04:40 PM
Funny. Here in OR sometimes it's easier to buy pot than booze (if ya know the right people!)
I remember working in a gas station w/ booze on the counter (vodkas, sex on the beach, pucker, etc) and truckers would come in and be surprised that we'd sell beer etc on the sabbath.
Um. yeah. :D Man, beer on Sunday?! Sunday's not the sabbath, it's GAME DAY! You can't watch a Packer game without BEER!!! GEEZ!!!
Now if only I could get DGF into hunting, fishing, and hip waders, I think I'd almost be set for life! Go figure! :D It's the bullheaded WI girl in me, I swear!

and great news about my sister:( . Not only is she not talking to me, but my mother got involved too; and she lacks my restraint.... and they had a shriekng hissing scratching fight (via email and phone) and now they're not speaking either. and the very ironic part about it? And I log every bottle I ever drink- I have them rated Love, Like A Lot, Buy Again, Don't Buy Again, and BF Likes. I eventually get the tasting notes in there, too. My notes.
I am thinking of just plain Z, is that stupid?
We had a wonderful photo session outside today. He is SO fun. He just burrows his pointy little nose into either my hand or the ground and stays there.
I think I got Dill in 1997, the year before I moved to Florida, the last year I was happily married. Mother's Day present. So that makes him coming up nine, but it sure seems like a lifetime.

He was my heart but I lost him to cystitis. I lost one other cat to cystitis as well, TBO (The Bad One). He was black and full of life. Well, Offthegrid, Allezgirl and I had a very nice ride today on a paved trail near AG's house followed by a delicious dinner out. Just wanna say thank you to AG for all her hospitality tonight. Love the architecture of your place. Your son is just delightful. I want his shoes. :D OTG, you are a warm and funny woman and it was my pleasure meeting you today. Keep up the good work girl. You look fantastic. You did great out there today and I'd ride with you anytime.
So, I've got a few pics of the PA girls today. Here ya go ladies. I'm in red, OTG is in yellow and AG is in gray. Then the three bikes. And... a bonus shot just for sh*ts and giggles. I think I have a crush.:D (Don't worry AG, I'll just send your shot to you later. You didn't think I'd actually do that to you, did you? ;))
You know I'm gonna pull a Knot and delete that last one, don't you? Get it while you can cause it's already counting down. Wheeeeeee!!! ~ 5, 4, 3, 2, ... Whoops, Gone!

Mimi-your pics are wonderful. Cute haircut. :) I am pleased your visit with Eden went well. I may be one of the few who has not met someone from the list. :(
Nanci-I love your house! My boys would go crazy in there. Z is adorable and I think quite a suitable name.
What is new with me? Started tghe day our poorlyt and it just continued a downward slide. I had to cancel our Thanksgiving plans (SIL was going to visit) as our garage door is beyond the scope of DH's repairs. He made a valiant effort, but it cannot be saved. More debt. :(
Jennifer, I have no fear that someday soon, you will either be visited or meet some of us on a bike ride.
It just happens!

Wow, I got to see it. You and... who's that? some important actor, I know that.
X, how nice that you guys got together and rode. Poor Fredwina, several pages back here, mentioned she'd actually ridden her bike. We didn't respond..
So far the biggest surprise for me here was Jennifer. She looks much too young to have those 3 giant sons!!
I kicked arse this weekend, but it wasn't on my bike. SOMETIMES the bike has to take back burner. Got the basement all reorganized, cleaned, and some new furniture stained and now varnishing it.
thanks for the compliments on my hair. I guess i like it too. I look less like a waif. And thanks for noticing my family resemblance. It is very strange to go to a foreign country, 11 hours away on an airplane and find a big giant family full of people who resemble my father, brother, sister, grandfather, me..
It's getting to be the witching hour. You know, when I go to bed and people say amazing things and then delete them.
buona notte!

Lisa is that the one you were writing about in Dear So and So? It all worked out then?
No, it's a different one! A total impulse used bike that came up for sale and was completely impossible to resist. Hopefully his "real" long-anticipated bike will be re-painted (they got the color wrong after all this waiting) and will be coming back (yet again) across the country in another few weeks, we hope without further incident or shipping mishaps. I'm just so glad he has a nice bike at last to at least be working on in the meantime. He's been waiting patiently for 5 months while I've been sashaying about on my high falutin' Rambouillet all this time. :o He shouldn't have to suffer so long. I'll write more later, but gotta get some sleep....

Jennifer, we will be having 5 for thanksgiving too. Just me and DH, my younger daughter and her DGF/partner, and DH's son. I am expected to make my traditional big 2 roast chickens & fixin's extravaganza. (it's what they ask for)
We'll eat for 3 days, go for walks, watch videos, play board games in front of the fireplace. Who could want for more?? :) (except it's a shame older daughter and HER DGF/partner couldn't make it too.) (I feel like I have many daughters!)

hey BM03...did that package arrive yet?
I want to share some depressing but interesting information. Last night on SBS there was the second part of four of the documentary "The Age of Aids". I had to shake my head when they talked about Ryan Whyte and all the other kids that were shunned, the early days of ACT UP and the quilt. I am not sure why exactly i'm telling you this information but I had to tell someone. I remember those early days, watching the news & wondering. It's good to know progress has been made.
I know this is a biking board....but thanks for listening.

I am at work which is very very boring and dull. More than you can imagine.
well maybe you can.
It's interesting, i've met 3 new people in the last week, one won a titanium bike in a race (that would be Eden) one rode the Paris Brest Paris ride, and the other (married to Eden) spent an hour in the basement before we got there, where he was riding his bike on a trainer.
How better to stay involved with biking than to continue to meet other people with the same passion?
and when your passion is flagging (i haven't ridden since before i went to Italy unless you count the 1 mile on the shop bike) it's good to talk about it, to keep interest alive.
and buying stuff for the bike raises the guilt level, so you end up riding just s
to validate purchases. Everything works..

I hear you Mimi, I was going through bike withdrawal yesterday and feeling guilty cuz I had some fries for supper, so I rode my trainer with my jeans on for 30 minutes while watching tv. It's all good!
Work will wiz by this week - which is good. I finally made progress on organizing around the house last night and I feel - relieved, less cluttered when I walk into the house now. I need to drop some boxes of stuff off at Good Will. And now I have a box of rags for my bikes (old tshirts). Fun, fun, stuff:p
I volunteered to help chair our community Tgiving meal. So I'll be there in the morning, but we are very fortunate to have 40 families sign up to help with it! Because of that, I think we'll sneak out early so I can head over to my folks and have lunch with them. My mom was very disappointed to hear we wouldn't be there so she would love to have us there.

we did that one year. we cooked turkeys in our oven and in our neighbor's oven, and my husband sliced three turkeys
which we then delivered to some homeless shelter.
We should do that again. THis year we are driving to the boonies to spend time with one of his cousins.. and MY mother will not have family for thanksgiving this year thanks to the bs with my sister.

This just proves she *looks* 22(ish) with the emphasis on the "ish"

I hate my job.
I wanna work at REI and get paid just as much as I get now. (though I'm considered "low income" by the City of Seattle charts, so maybe I should wish for MORE money than I'm getting now) I wanna go back to school. I wanna buy a house. I want a fabulous career that isn't gonna trash my body and my hands.
And I want it all NOW.
Today I am not a happy little worker bee. I'm stingin' mad. I want out of this job. (though i do love the work, just hate the job today.)
And this little bee wants her honey... :(
Being bored at work today, I googled my name and found (among 10 pages of hits) the following article from MIT's "The Tech" newspaper of November 14, 1975. I'd almost forgotten that I can claim to have won a bike race, even if it was only college intramurals. And the only reason our team won was that all the good cyclist were riding as individuals that year (may have been the first year of the race). We were the only team that rode as a group (we actually had 4 riders as a friend of mine rode with us throughout). It was pretty funny to hear the jocks on campus acting incredulous that my frat, Epsilon Theta, could have won the race, because we were not known as a jock house. But at the time, cycling was kind of an anti-jock sport. The name of the individual winner of that race, Gary Klein, should be familiar to many of you (see http://www.kleinbikes.com/ ). The only thing I remember about Klein was that you didn't lean your bike against his Colnago.
PAGE 8 FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1975 THE TECH
Tuesday afternoon, Epsilon Theta edged Baker House by just eight seconds to win the IM Cycling meet. ET's team of Paul M '78, Terry M '77, and Debra W '78 combined for a 4:50:37 time (taken by adding the times of the three Cyclists), finishing 14th, 15th, and 16th, respectively. The Baker entry of Rich K '77 (1 :32:10), Jesse A '77 (1:35:55), and Tom G '76 (1:42:40) came up just short, with a total time of 4:50:45. Student House placed third in the living group championship with a time of 5:03:35, with DTD a fourth in 5:10:57. Gary Klein won the individual championship, completing the eleven-mile Cambridge-to-Wellesley course in 1:22:35.

Hi Thread Drifters! I made an effort at getting caught up, but no doubt missed important details that will come back to haunt me.
For example: Nanci, who is Z? Are you a member of the New Snake A Day Club? Girl! I can't keep up! :p They all look healthy and pretty.
The weekend in Galena with J was so wonderful. We had a great time doing stuff and not doing stuff--I just enjoy being with this guy, and he enjoys me. We spent time in town on Sat, then went hiking in the State Park on Sunday. Moderately tough trail, hiked up to a scenic overlook of the Mississippi River. Drove back and hung out on his couch eating Thai food and watching MI-3 (very fun). Spent one last night together before the week got started. Now I'm at the hospital from 10AM-10PM tonight. I have two patients on the way in for induction of labor, so the next six hours and 45 min of call may be busy. Or not. Who can tell?
On Friday, before leaving town, I mailed packages to BMo3, OTG, and CC. Jennifer--I cannot believe that you got yours the next day in Ohio! Stuff doesn't get delivered that fast in the same city!

OTG-I think spending the holiday bike part/accessory shopping would be fun! :)
Actually, going to bike shops is very, very, very stressful for me. Virtually everything I have was bought online. I'm very self-conscious about my weight, and several different shops in the past have been extremely less than helpful and one was downright rude.
I'm in a different state now, though, and I need to get a new crank before spring (I can't change it myself), so gonna have to face the music sooner or later. In fact, I'd rather visit the dentist than a bike shop. Even the mere thought of having to go in there makes me extremely nervous.
In other news, I have to help my brother and sister-in-law pack up their house tonight. They are moving tomorrow, actually slightly closer to my apartment. Now, who on earth doesn't hire a mover for a three floor, 3-bedroom house and then moves on a weekday?

Well garage door guy came, and for those of you single and looking, he was hot!! :D Anyway, he will be back tomorrow and I will be out $1250. Upside, my garage door will be new and in working order. :)
Today is DH's birthday and I told him I expect $1250 to be spent on my birthday. ;)
The twins are buying Chinese takeaway for their Dad's birthday dinner. YUM!

Jennifer, maybe the twins can help with the price of the door?
Kids these days are independently wealthy; or it seems!

Happy 500, TD!
Lise - I am so happy for you and J. The whole thing is SO great!
BM03 - good job on the bracelets...
Knot - I wanna work at REI, too. Problem is I wouldn't take home any money because I'd always find something I couldn't live without. Hard enough haveing TWO of the stores on my commute route.

When my older son was 12 or 13 he told me that when he grew up he'd buy me a house with a view. (He's 28 now and living in my basement) I'm not holding my breath.

Jennifer, it's great that you have those pretty med ID bracelets now! I bet your famiily feels less worried now wehn you go off somewhere. :) Oh too bad about that garage door- I hate it when life gets in the way and ruins nice plans.
Mimi, too funny. Well, he did make sure that you were in a house with a view....a view of him sleeping in the basement. :D
I think everyone sees different numbers on their TD pages- depending on how many posts per page they have their TE preferences set to view. This page for me is in the 300's somewhere.
