Oh. My. Gawd.

Shoot me now. DG and I were out partying last night. Partying as in "listen to the neighbor and his band play music and enjoy gross amts of free alcohol". DG gets plastered and becomes the honorary life of the party, even though everyone's about had it. We eventually get home and spend about four hours camped out infront of the throne (I was ok, but DG wasn't, and sweety that I am, I stayed with her to make her feel better and clean up the aftermath...) ick. DG had to go to work at 7 this morning, though, so I hope she's surviving. I feel like h*ll, and need to get some sleep but can't. ugh. I think I flashed a few guys at the party. I'm sure I'll find out for sure this afternoon. :eek: my shirt and DG's djimbe are still there. Funny, the more I drank, the better I drummed.

Probably, but because the party had been going for awhile before I got there, (go me and my "incredibly realistic" security guard uniform...):rolleyes: the band was well on their way out, too, so... no one sounded good anymore, I'm sure. :p

mimi - My Curious George books from childhood have been passed down to the kids in my family. I still love the stories and lessons to be learned in them. No CG jersey as yet. I'm such a kid at heart tho that I'd have no problem wearing one. I saw one I liked online so it's on the x-mas list. I've practically melted the CC since getting the bike so no new purchases for me for a few months. I love Disney stuff too and I've got a few jerseys with that theme on the list too. (my other nickname is Mickey but don't tell anyone. ;))

Kitsune - I don't even know what to say. I guess I hope you get your shirt back. Glad you both lived through it. (although it probably doesn't feel that way) Air drum if ya gotta but stay away from drum sticks when partying. You can take an eye out. (or put the stick through a drum head skin. Don't ask how I know this.)

Useful tricks for SI joint grumpiness:

These are to be done VERY VERY GENTLY!!! Like rocking a sleeping baby! GENTLY. BARELY. ALMOST IMPERCEPTIBLY.

I mean it!

These tricks are to calm down the spasming muscles. They take a while. As the muscles in your pelvis/low back calm down the locked-down bones can shift around again. Movement can be easier, but you should still be taking it carefully (no bending down for stuff on the floor, squat instead) because all those critters are still gonna be sensitive. Those sensitive muscles will still be tender and sore for a few hours, too.

When my patients have had an "episode" of SI related pain, I tell them to do these tricks at least twice a day (morning and night) for a couple weeks. Helps to break the spasm/pain/spasm cycle. You can also do them any time your back feels grumpy.

Trick #1 Pelvic Shotgun

(called "shotgun" because it hits many targets <muscles>)

*Lie on your back on the bed or the floor, with your knees bent and feet on the floor/bed.
*Completely relax your back. Just lie there for about a minute.
*Put a pillow between your knees.
*Gently, barely, imperceptibly squeeze the pillow for 10 seconds.
*Let off the sqeeze for 10 seconds.
*Do this for 2 or 3 minutes.

Trick #2 Foot Push MET (muscle energy technique)

*Lie on your back, knees bent and feet on the bed/floor.
*Completely relax your back. Just lie there for about a minute.
*Straighten one leg and let it rest on the floor. Keep the other bent.
*Gently barely "push" through the bent leg, like you were going to slide your foot down the bed. (but don't move the foot. don't push hard enough it actually moves) Hold the imaginary push for 10 seconds.
*Let off the push for 10 seconds.
*Repeat 3 times in a row on the left.
*Repeat 3 times in a row on the right.
*Do this for 2 or 3 minutes

Use these as needed. I like the shotgun, it works well for me. But I have to do it for a good 5 minutes. Sometimes the shotgun doesn't fix me, and I use the foot push afterwards.

These should feel as boring as h*ll. They ARE boring! You are boring your muscles into a state of calmness.

I am sitting home like a slug today. Actually, I got up at 5AM and mapped out the IM FL bike course, and wrote the distances on the map, so I can figure out when BF will be where, unlike last year where I'd be at some intersection, with everyone going "What mile is this???" I need to buy sidewalk chalk to write on the road with. Allez, allez!

And I "inquired" about that snake I really really want. Haven't heard back yet.

I am resisting going to the garden store, since every penny has to go toward A. IM FL and B. Snake.

Next step with Baddy Addy I guess is tuna water-scented mouse. Mmm.

Oh, and I updated my Nano. It's the 4GB. I have 90% Podcasts and 10% music. I think I've filled it once since I got it, last spring, and even though I listen to Podcasts every day, I have never run out. Lots of new stuff to listen to on the way to Panama City Beach! The weather is good- highs in the mid 70Fs and lows around 50F. Sunny.

Maybe this would be a good day to take Maizey outside and practice scale photography.

I think so, Chick,... I got there and was handed a jello shot, then upended a bottle of Ouzo into a party cup with ice until I had roughly a shot in there, and poured pepsi- did that twice, and I think I was handed another jello shot. I don't really go nuts, I'm just relatively "cheap"... but that second jello shot was for you, I shhwear. ;) I'm feeling a lot better now... time for breakfast. Wish I could go good 'n greasy but too lazy to hit fast food. :D

Roasting over a fire is my favorite. Haven't tried the hot chocolate one. Yet. :D
The GF's and I stayed overnight in Bethlehem in August for a Mel E. concert at the Musikfest so the next day we had to go. Hit the Martin Guitar factory too. Ah, between the Peeps and the guitars, I was weak in the knees the rest of the day. For me, that's the kind of trip where I leave the CC's at home or I seriously end up buying stuff I just shouldn't.

See what you started! I was sitting here reading every post I could, trying not to think about the Peeps. I'm in my jammies but I was seriously thinking of getting dressed and heading to the store to buy some so I could put them in hot chocolate. I compromised and settled for the cocoa alone. (with tiny marshmallows of course) I'm so wired right now, I can't even close my eyelids. I know better than this. It's right before bed time. What was I thinking? I tend to have strong reactions to things. (Nyquil totally winds me up.)

Ah, heck. I think I'll go back to reading posts since I'm obviously not going to be able to sleep for a while. I really kinda miss blinking though. (sigh)

Do us all a favor and don't try under the counter drugs or Red Bull. I wish I could get wired that way without my heart doing that weird irrhythmia thing the way it does when it gets caffiene.

Yeah, I occassionally get the racing heart too. Oh, you meant from caffeine? Yeah, then too. ;) Another reason I don't drink coffee. Never been in a Starbucks in my life!

Maybe you should call her and make sure she's ok. I'd be worried sick if I were in your shoes. Course, I wouldn't have drank like that either. (I'd have passed out long before that.) How are you feeling tonight? Get any sleep today? Ever figure out where your shirt ended up?

How is it that reading your post, it sounds like it's said quickly and with hardly any pause for breath? Breathe in, breathe out. slow. Don't hyperventilate. :D Yah, I meant from caffiene. Caffiene gives kind of an icky feeling when used as a stimulant etc.

I tried calling DG, but she hasn't answered. I'm assuming she came home and went to sleep immediately, in which case she'd be p*ssed if I woke her up, however concerned I was. She always tells me she's stronger and more self-reliant than I act like she is and I needn't worry so much but... *shrug* I worry anyway.

She's probably fine, and with two whole hours left in my shift, I don't want to start worrying too much... :(

I'm feeling ok now. I slept for a couple hours, got up, drank some water, had some Hammer gel, visited the neighbors for money won during a bet, my shirt and the djimbe. Took said money and bought greasy burgers for lunch to make myself feel better...

Actually, that sort of used to work. You still had to write a proposal that had merit and got some descent peer reviews. But you got funded because the people who controlled the money knew what you could do. Now the funding is so tight that it's really cutthroat.

KY was cold for a reason. the temp dropped to 30 degrees last night here, i got up to discover my car encased in a block of solid ice. I had trouble opening the door and couldn't scrape the windows. I resorted to the forbidden dumping of a bucket of hot water over the windows. Worked great just like always.

The good news is, between work and J, I am so out of touch with the rest of TE that *I* have no idea who you're talking about. The bad news is that I'm so out of touch.

Also, it's been a gorgeous three days here, and I've been indoors the whole time. Working a bunch, then sleeping today. It's supposed to drop 20 degrees by tomorrow. My only comfort is that it was so windy today that both running and biking would've been tough.

Nanci, I am so happy for you about Inez! Eagerly anticipating pictures and stories. :D

Hey TDers!!!

I've been so swamped with moving stuff and a new job that I haven't had a chance to even check in with y'all.

Looks like everyone is having fun!

The wife of a colleague is a cyclist (and triathlete) and has given me some good info on their cycling club. It sounds like a supportive group! That could be really good for me since I haven't ridden in what feels like forever. I can only begin to imagine how MP feels (congrats of finishing the marathon btw). My bike is sitting behind me right now. It looks lonely. Soon I will ride. Soon!

The kids are super excited about trick-or-treating tomorrow. Ben managed to move away from the octopus idea and decided to be spiderman. I let him decide. Elizabeth is going to be a pumpkin witch. I'll post a picture.

Gotta run and eat dinner. I'll try to do more catching up later. Just wanted to let y'all know I didn't drop off of the face of the Earth.

Later!

Kitsune: Glad to hear she's ok. So whadja have for dinner? I love leftovers. ;) I saw that pic at the theatre and was glad he didn't keep talking in all V's. (think the very beginning of the pic) I wasn't too bad but overall not my kind of movie. A little dark for me but I liked the political undercurrent.

Nanci: Congrats on being a mommy again. So, when's she coming? Do you think she'll get along with the other "children"?

Lise: Very cool on J. So happy for you. So are you going to Paris at some point or ???

fishdr: Glad to see you back. Great news that you are getting to know some other riders. You'll be back on the bike soon I'm sure. I wish I was still a kid. I loved getting dressed up for Halloween. Wait, I still do! Actually, it was a fundraiser for the local humane league. I was a scarecrow. (right, BIIIG stretch there X) I didn't get any pics of me (cuz I'm the photographer, NOT the subject thankyouverymuch) but I may be in some that the league took. No one had to ask me what I was so I guess I did good. There was one lady dressed as what I took to be a zucchini. :confused: I dunno.

BMo3: Good job on saving the Peeps. I must admit, I stopped on my way home from work tonight and got a package. I can hear them chirping from the kitchen. (which is weird cuz they're pumpkins :confused: ) But I'm not listening, nope ya can't make me eat ya. I won't do it... ***puts fingers in ears*** I don't hear you! (Oh man, the packs of cocoa are right there in the cupboard.) Aaaaaaaah!! (Go on, you know you wanna.) NOOO!!!! (Sure just one, no one will know) I'll know. (Don't make me bring up the time you ate...) Wha... hey now, that's not right! This is a family forum, afterall. (hehehe, go ahead, have a Peep)

You suck.

Mmmmm. Oh, that was really good. (Told ya) I feel so cheap. ***shakes head*** Beaten down by my own mind. Now I'll have to go to confession tomorrow... and I'm not even Catholic. (sigh) Well anyway, good job on saving your Peeps, BMo3. ;) :D

Ok, here ya go, Kit. Enjoy!

Voil*! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-*-vis an introduction, so let me simply add that it's my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V.

Actually, I found it rather interesting in an interview that I read that Alan Moore, who was the guy responsible for the comix series, refused to have anything to do with the making of the film. Bitter about losing his rights to it long ago I believe. Of course, he's done this with all of his stories that have been made into movies, such as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. That one definitely could have used his guidance. Incredible mind and imagination. Alas, for my tastes, just a bit dark. Like I said tho, gutsy political statements. Gotta respect him on that. :cool:

Maybe I'll rent V this w/e and give it another try. Just for you, Kit. ;)

Another one I like (as with just about anything from Dark Horse comics...) Sin City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin_City) (<3 Marv!)

Spider Jerusalem is a lot like Hunter S. Thompson- crazy, intelligent, and dark as can be.

Ya know, you're right. When I was about your age (I'm guessing you're around 22?) I was much darker and cynical. You have no idea how much I've changed over the years. But it's too long of a story and way too hard to talk about.

~~~~~~~~~~~~sigh~~~~~~~~~~~~~
J. is wonderful!
Oh, how I love this phase of the relationship...:p I know it doesn't last, and good thing, as I need more sleep than this, but it has been sooooooo long since I felt like this. Last time I felt like this was in '94, with S., of whom you've heard. But that had an element of craziness to it that this does not. If I had a day off, she would just not go to work in order to be with me. Yep, it was off from the start. J. stays up way too late with me, but leaves, goes home, gets up, goes to work/school/etc. Has a life, and it's not me.
I was tired after the long work weekend, but I did get three 1 hr naps in that 24 shift. Came home and slept a few more hours, got up and made some coffee. For those who were around for the "my heart's beating very strangely" episode this summer, you know I don't drink much coffee anymore. So I was really needing it. Just as I reached for the mug, Isaac the cat jumped onto the counter, knocking off the coffee, shattering the mug, splashing coffee everywhere. Me, him, wall, floor, dishwasher.... I screamed. I am not proud. But I screamed "NOOOOOOOO! Damn it!" Then I cleaned up and made another cup of coffee. :rolleyes: Isaac was drenched, but I let him handle himself. He didn't seem to get too wired, I'm glad to say.
Made a pumpkin pie, broiled salmon, couscous, green beans, and salad with candied walnuts, cranberries, and gorgonzola. Way easier than it sounds, or is that just because I'm happy? J. came over, we ate, hung out and watched part of A Walk On the Moon. But when Diane Lane and Viggo Mortensen started making out, well, so did we. ;) What a great evening! But I think I need another cup of coffee this morning. Another beautiful day here, although 20 degrees colder, as predicted.
This is cool--the picture on the movie was fuzzy. Normally I have a great picture. It's a big TV, and I never watch it, except for movies. I was dismayed and baffled. J. said, "It looks like a cable problem." Got up, looked at the back of the TV, adjusted a cable, fixed the problem. Wow. I would've just cleaned the disc and figured the whole thing was "broken". ("Broken", for me, means, "I have no idea what's wrong.") It may sound silly, but I love it that he knew what was wrong, got up, and fixed it.
Paris--Yes! We're planning to go mid March, when he has spring break from grad school. It's easy for me to request a week off that far in advance.
I'm already thinking of scaling back my triathlon plans for next year. I am not sure I want to be training for a 1/2 IM when I could be spending time with this guy. I'm thinking I may do Accenture at the Int'l distance instead, and a couple of sprints through the season. Seriously. I've had the pleasure of four years of training and racing triathlons, and no pleasure of dating someone wonderful for...oh...say...a decade! Things got bad with S after about a year, although I stayed for six. Then over four years of nothing, 2 1/2 years of online dating with seven months of largely frustrating involvement with T. in there....yeah, I may prefer snuggling with J. over 1/2 IM training.
..........................
But enough about me: FISHDR! Glad you resurfaced! Glad the fishfry are doing well! Your new home sounds pretty great. Have you started with the new job? Remember when you were nervous even to go for it? YAY FISH/BEE.DR!!!
Looking forward to all Halloween pix! :D L.
.......
That movie started some very good conversations.
Alright, can anyone join this thread or do I have to just keep lurking?!
Lise, I just had to pop on and say how happy I am for you! It is so nice to hear how happy you are with J. as an added bonus in your life. ((hugs)) your way and I'm living vicariously through you these days. I am too frustrated with dating on this end.
Nanci, congrats on the latest addition. I hope she makes it safe and sound to you as quickly as possible. Make sure to post a picture.
Fishdr, glad to hear the move and new job went well. Can't wait to see Halloween pix.
Kit, girl, I can not even pretend to know what movie you and xrayed were talking about, even after a couple pages of reading backwards. But your posts still crack me up!
I saw the quadrathlon posted on the Badger State Games website yesterday. I'd like to do that race at the beginning of February. Now all I have to do is start running again and learn how to xcountry ski. No problem! It's a 5k each of running, mtb, snow shoeing and xc (any style). And it's by age group which is cool. At least it would give me something to shoot for in the winter so I keep working out.
Ah, sorry to the one I offended on a TD post early this am. Thanks for the PM. I just took out that whole part of the post to be safe. I had a bout of insomnia and get too real sometimes. At least I don't get cranky when I'm tired so that helps.
Anyway, Lise, so glad it's going great with J. He sounds like a wonderful man who obviously can appreciate a wonderful woman when he sees her. Don't assume the honeymoon stage has to go away just because of past relationships. It's all in your control to keep it fresh and fun if your hearts are still there. A tender caress, a little strategically placed pinch, a nibble on an ear, holding hands like you're teenagers, making out on the couch, getting/giving a nice massage... doesn't have to stop, dear.
mtbdarby - Welcome to the TD world. Wear your helmet and gloves, it can get kinda rough in here. :D V for Vendetta. There's no way to explain it so you just gotta watch it for yourself. (I know Kit, 11/5;) I promise.)
Knotted - Very smart kid there. Most adults don't get the political undertones. Must get it from his Mom. :D As for the costume, ok, we gotta have a pic of that. Pleeeeeease. As for me, I'm masquerading as an x-ray tech. (Sorry, I just don't have the heart for it today.) I did get my haircut shorter this am, so I guess I will be kinda going in disguise.
Have a fun day everyone. Be safe.
hi everyone. I am most unhalloweened today. DH who loves halloweeen does the pumpkins, decorates (a little) buys the candy, fusses over the children is still in Arizona. Normally when he's out of town we chat a lot but this time he's had a lot of trouble with cell phone coverage. Not exactly coverage, he says he has a great signal, but still can't get calls through. he's calling it congestion. Anyone know of a good antihistamine for a cell phone?
So I am feeling terribly lonely as I prepare to embark on this big exciting trip.
He's peeved at me because i tend to be clingy, but I yam what i yam. A lot of my friends have already put me into the "she's on vacation" category, so they are not communicating "oh, i thought you left"
Sorry KY, i can't imagine them MAKING me dress up for Halloween. here, we celebrate Halloween by bringing everyone's children's candy to work and for 2-3 weeks, we have a sugar fest.
Lise, your romance is a wonderful thing, thanks for sharing it with us. You are being so tasteful and sweet. as often as we can, DH and i try to rekindle this kind of thing. Doesn't work when you take separate vacations though.
mtdarby, xcountry skiing is the only type i've ever tried, and it was a blast. I found it to be a great way to stay warm in 20 degree weather.
Kit, my older son (who I think is older than you) was born on Nov 5th, and he is a non-dark scorpio. (Aries Ascendant cheers it up immensely) My younger son is a very dark pisces. Neither turned out the way I thought they would.
(I thought the older one would be the martial arts type and the younger the artist. The older is a grad student in Music and the younger is a math nerd with muscles all over him. go figure
KY, I SOOOO want a picture of you in your costume, hehehehe. For once I am NOT dressing up for work (I did post a picture a couple weeks again of me and my son at the fairy tale ball). My Halloween spirit today consists of a grey Tshirt that reads "Jack-O'Lanterns Dating Service. Guaranteed to smile. If he starts to stink toss him out!" Could be my new dating moto....
Mimi, did I read you're going to Italy?? Very cool. I was there as a teenager and would love to go back as an adult. I actually tried xc skiing once and really enjoyed it. I'd like to try skate skiing as well as see which one clicks for me.
Lise, good memory. Paramedic got dumped after GRABAAWR. He got very clingy and jealous and I just couldn't take it any more. So I took a 3 month dating vacation and enjoyed the rest of my summer. I just got back online dating and I'm frustrated already. The guys I like don't like me, the ones I'm not interested don't leave me alone, blah, blah. I'm ready to give it up again but I signed up for 3 months so I'll hang in there that long. Any tips? How did you meet J?
I managed to get off work an hour early tonight, so I can go to the RHPS (otherwise it was doubtful). I need candy. The guys are passing by my window and occasionally noticing my fangs and (while subtle) dramatic eye makeup. Felix (this guy is TROUBLE) keeps asking if I'm going to bite him. It started out like "I'm scared... you're not gonna bite me, are you?" then "....could you bite me?" then ... "I wanna get bit...." always teasing. :rolleyes: :cool: Boys. I told him I was too young for him. He says "Yeah, you're like, 19, right? Didn't I see you trick-or-treating last year?"
Uh, No.
but...
if someone's offering candy... hey. =) I'm there.
Yes, it works now. how amazing, a parade!
Yup! It's going on 10 years now I think. The guy that organizes it is a Highway Patrolman. The police and fire departments usually have a car and truck for the kids to investigate, along with all kinds of goodies. Stickers, coloring books etc. Each year it seems more people show up, the marching band started coming about 3 years ago. One of the band members was a babysitter for the patrolman's kids, and said they wanted to join the fun.
Going the school to pick up SKnot and his friend in costume. I still gotta work a few more hours. Hope I get the chance to get out of the car in front of all those kiddies and embarrass the heck out of him!:D
That's just a bit cruel. I love it. :D
Xmas time when I was barely 18, I loaned my Mom my vehicle for the day cuz hers was being repaired. She just had to pick me up from work that afternoon. So I come outside with my coworkers at the end of the shift and there stands my Mom in a Santa suit... with all the stuffing in the boobs. (think Dolly Parton Santa) She starts swinging them around and doing a little boogie right there in the parking lot! Immediately had us all on the ground. The thing is, that's totally out of character for her. She's normally very quiet and subtle. She manages to crack a joke about every 3 years. It was, however, exactly what my Dad would have done. She knew I was missing him badly since that was our 1st Xmas without him. When I recovered enough, I went right over and gave her the biggest hug. (It had to be big, those boobs were huge!) I'll never forget she did that for me. :cool:
Knotted, today he's embarrassed but someday your son will look back on this and realize that he has a truly incredible Mom with an amazing and creative sense of humor. What a lucky kid.
p.s. Of course, when I play Santa, I put all my stuffing in the rearend. Makes quite a fashion statement. Little hard to drive tho. Ya gotta put the seat the whooooole way back. :cool: :D
I can't wait to see Inez!
Snap, your Halloween parade is very cool. I'm a total sucker for little kids in lion suits and the like.
Mimi, we should've had dinner--we would have had fun! Have a wonderful trip---hope you got all your spatulas for the cousins.
Lise. How totally delightful to listen to you burble euphorically.
X, I didn't see your early morning, now-gone post, but what a genuinely gracious, kind P.S. you wrote about it. I'm not kidding about this. Nicely done.
KYet, you by God better post coconut pix.
Our beloved Siamese cat Beeper has been in the critical care animal hospital since Saturday. Slowly getting a little better, but is 16 with newly diagnosed polycystic kidney disease, so we'll be glad to have her back home soon but know it won't be forever...between Mom, house, toe, job in a higher-stress level at the moment, and now the Beeper, I am hoping someone will just whack me over the head with a baseball bat and knock me out for a little while, just for a break (full recovery has to be guaranteed beforehand. And mashed potatoes and gravy during the rehab period. And good books. A little chocolate...wait--maybe I can do this BEFORE the baseball bat descends...).
After be-jeweling my walking boot, I got liberated from it yesterday by the doc, so if anyone needs it, let me know. I am thrilled. Now I know how painful it is for people with legs of different lengths. MAN, the rest of my body hurt more from that than the damn broken toe did.
Fish. Nice to see you. Interesting bee stuff in the news, about the honeybee genome.
BMom (see? yet another variation of your name here), sounds like you had a cool Halloween.
Hello, mtbdarby!
Well, there are pumpkins smashed on the road a few houses up. (sigh) I'm lucky, they always leave mine alone. Here's some from years past. Not enough time to do many this year. I've collected more patterns I want to try though in case I find time this w/e. Better late than never I guess. My Mom "orders" some every year from me. She got the only one I carved this time. Well, it is Mom afterall. ;) (Emmitt Kelly, the king of clowns) Of course, I forgot to take a picture. :(
Sorry. Oppotunity lost.
Slicked back hair. No earrings or makeup. TIGHT tight TIGHT sleeveless shirt. Really goooooood bra (if you know what I mean). Baggy Levis rolled up a bit so my wool socks showed. Black leather steel-toe boots. Bike chain tattoo on my bicep.
that was the butch part.
Island Girl part was: pink flower over my left ear. Rainbow leis around my neck. Coconut bra. Grass skirt.
Yes, black leather is hot. My feet were very sweaty.:p
I went to bed last night with hope and awoke to disappointment. Next time we'll have to send the TE TD official photog on a secret mission. :D
My proposal was submitted at 5:45 yesterday. So after one good night's sleep, I feel like I've emerged from my 3-day-old brain-fried state. OK, maybe my brain is still feels sort of sauteed. I put my bike in my car this morning and am planning on a 2-hour mid-day ride. After working all day Sunday and 14 hours Monday, I can afford 2 hours off. Assuming my brain is working well enough to stay awake while I ride...
On a mission:
Today is payday. (RABBIT RABBIT by the way) During my little lunch break I need to get gas for the car (empy light has been on since yesterday) and call to make an appt with the grad school admissions folks.
At some point after work I need to get groceries. Which means I need to make a list this time. "Out of control at Costo" can no longer be my modus operandi! :eek:
(and I need to clean the house, etc etc. but that's what SKnot is for, eh?:D )
New month, new leaf, new life! Last month was a maelstrom. This month I will have PURPOSE! <stirring march music in the background> No more crap! Just good stuff! No more wasted engergy! <music gets louder> I will stand on my own two feet and I will boldly face whatever comes my way! <flags begin waving in background, music cresendos>
Awww!I feel so deflated. I woke up hoping to see a pic worthy of screen saver status and... pffft. Pinch flat. That's ok, Knot. I've got a pretty good imagination. I'll just dig up a photo from another thread and play pin the coconuts on Knot. :D (sorry, could NOT resist! just couldn't.) So, didja embarrass SKnot?
The ladies I work with were talking it up big about how they were going to dress up. I knew better and just went in as my regular abnormal self. Results: One person with a shirt that said 'Boo' and another with a shirt that had ribs on it. Very creative for a bunch of radiology people aren't they?
I did however get my daily look of "what is the matter with you" from the girls. All I did was tell a funny (ok, laugh 'til ya cry, hilarious) story to a woman I graduated school with, who is now my coworker as well. (she gets my humor) We came out of the breakroom laughing, crying, redfaced and out of breath. And there was the "look". I only missed getting the look twice since I've been there, I wasn't feeling like myself on those days. I promise, I'll do better in the future. :D
I really have to get serious about moving away. Far away. How far can I go before I have to tread water? Yeah, that's good. Right there! :p
BTW, I just walked out and took this pic in my backyard while writing this post. Persistent isn't it? Gotta love that kind of determination. **Note to self: finish the weeding and raking or no bike for you.** (Oh, them's fightin' words!)
Have a inspiring day!!
X.
Salsa, so sorry to hear about your kitty. Right now, I have a cat who is about 12 years old.. She may live to be 20 but then she might start failing soon. Cats just don't live long enough!
My back was starting to improve but then yesterday was a most stressful day at work. Talk about out of control! Unfortunately that meant i was doing a lot of ladder work and stretching too. So Now I am ready to get on a transcontinental jet with a screaming back. must pack advil...
I have been doing the exercises prescribed by KY, they are helping, but sometimes life just makes everything worse!
DH changed his return flight to 9am, so at least we won't be scurrying around in the airport in a panic!
To X, who I think asked, I am going to Calabria via Milan for a week. Friends in Milan, relatives (and friends) in Calabria. This shy person is going to attempt to forge new friendships with her second language.
My lucky SS will get some bauble that i can pick up in Italy that doesn't weigh a lot.
I am terrified that my cousins are going to give me olive oil as gifts (VERY HEAVY AND did I tell you that my sacroiliac is screaming?)
One more little goody. I entered in a "Design a Bianchi Bike" contest some months ago, and unlike our friend Fat Bottomed Girl, i did not win. Therefore, I am not going to be the proud owner of a custom Bianchi anytime soon. It was fun to do though, so if they have a contest next year, I'll try again.
Yep, Chloe was a ladybug - courtesy of Target dog costumes. Only problem, they don't make the costumes to fit shortlegged pudgy dogs. Towards the end of the parade, the jacket had come undone and kind of sat down on her hips. After the parade, then the trick or treaters, she was exhausted. Ever see a dog with bags under her eyes? :D
cc - there is an ignore feature so you don't see posts from "irritants". Works like a charm - I use it on another forum quite a bit.:rolleyes:
knot - I'm marching right behind you! I vow to try harder and succeed with this Weight Watcher thing. The KitKat bars we have left mean nothing to me! I am strong, I love vegetables, chocolate has no hold on me! oh god is that a Scharffen-Berger bar........
Warning-small rant, which requires no comments, I just need to "do" something with these feelings/thoughts/actions.
I was so very happy yesterday. I love Halloween, DH was arriving early to help bake and carve pumpkins, all was well on TD, everyone happy and costumed. :)
1) The children (whom I do love) arrive home. Honour roll and gifted son #1 brings me his grades. :eek: A B+ in honours Algebra! Brief background, his IQ is freakish (a term I can only uses here) and his math scores for the state, gifted people (again, I am half brain dead, you will see why later), and national testing were literally off the freaking charts. He has the audacity to remind me it is a "respectable grade". Now, IF the child EVER studied, I would be happy for him, knowing he worked very hard and earned a good grade. However, he is in 8th grade and has NEVER done homework. He finishes it at school. This grade will be on his HS transcript, he knows that. Numerous deep cleansing breaths later I sit down and discuss how maybe he should take a different approach, blah, blah, blah. Then I get the teen attitude. :mad: So, I stupidly decide some bonding time with my child is in order and decide to go running with him. Never thinking he will work off his frustration. When thinking of this bonding time, I totally left out of the thought process that he easily logs in over 100 miles a month.
2) My bonding run with DS #1. I almost died. What makes a grown woman (moi) think for a second I can keep pace with a ticked off, conditioned cross country runner? Hey CWR-if you are reading this, I more than ran for both of us! The 2 mile loop I usually do when pressed for time, takes me about 30 minutes with my warm up and cool down. Not yesterday! I went 3 miles in the same time, NOT including my long warm up and cool down. :eek: On the upside I was no longer angry with DS, just myself and my calves hate me.
3) Happy Part-the twins carved pumpkins with Dad. :cool: I will see about posting pictures. Then the adorable little kids started trick or treating. Very cute. :D
4) I hobbled over to my neighbours who kept offering me wine, then was insulted because I declined, even when I explained about my medications and reminding them I do not drink. :mad:
5) I started feeling poorly around 9ish, came home from the neighbours-we had a neighbourhood bonfire of sorts, took a hot shower and really did not feel well. Ended up in hospital on Halloween (the hospital staffed dressed up :D). I had another TIA, whooped to freakin do da. So, I came home in a total funk. :o :mad: :o
6) My funk made DH think I was mad at him. I assured him it was not him, but me. Nothing doing he is convinced I am mad at him. SIGH
7) This morning. I ate 1/5 of the Pumpkin Spice Cake (hush-I had bread, fruit, and dairy and that is the version I am sticking with :p ), coffee and I am still in a funk. DH began skulking about thinking it is him. I used the "it's not you, it is me" line, to no avail. :confused: He left mad because I was not honest with him about what he "supposedly" did to make me mad/sad. :rolleyes: Duh-he did nothing, I am just in a mood. Angry teen, clueless neighbours, and a TIA all in one evening can do that to some people.
8) We will not even discuss the sugar crash I had this morning after everyone left. :o
WHEW-I feel better. :) If you were brave enough to read this far, thank you. I needed to vent. Now I feel so much better.
I will look at he previous posts to see pictures and hear how each of you celebrated after I shower.
Again, for those who read this far, Thank You!
Wow BMo3 that just stinks. I am so sorry. DH should understand after all you've been through you're going to be a little edgy. And I am sorry about DS1. Knowing the potential is there but the motivation is not is just a killer. We'll go up and down with the PP on this. She's got huge potential/smarts, but her follow through stinks sometimes. And she's only 10 so I know it is going to get tougher and the stakes higher.
Help me with the lingo here - I know you have explained before, but "TIA"?
Our host informed us that RHPS, while normally starting at 12, starts at 9 halloween night, so we missed it. On the upshot, though, we all watched it at his place and yelled/threw things at the appropriate times- so it was all good. The hostess was Magenta, the host was Marilyn Monroe (until the duct tape making his 'cleavage' started irritating his moobs, then we ripped it off. This did not make him feel better) bloody bulls etc all 'round, it was a good party. :) My god, some of those lines, though... so raunchy.
I could possibly arrange a trade with pics of my costume... I *need* pics of that. Still... hm. I think my modest modesty is still a little upset with me over that.
I figured out how to go as a naked guy for next year's halloween. Just gotta wear my trench coat over the top so I don't get arrested. :D I have to do this **** while I'm young enough to say "I didn't know any better!" :D
Snap - love the pix. Thanks for sharing! And thanks for the tip on ignoring posts. That could come in handy.....
Lise - could I send you my profile and let you take a look at it? And then could you fill me in on the bru ha ha that's going on? I must have missed it (thank God).
"These fat old mice can perform as well on this skill test as young lean mice," Sinclair said.
Leaving for IM Florida very early tomorrow. I am afraid I will get hopelessly behind. Maizey ate. I bought/arranged Inez's home, but Choco had to move to the bototm bunk of the two-viv rack, so then I couldn't see him, so then I had to rearrange the living room. I also had to buy food for the anoles, toad, and frog. The toad is very full and content now. I also bought cool homes for the anoles and the frog, and furnished those, too. Meanwhile, Addy did not choose to eat her anole-scented mouse. I am going to try her on live when I get home.
What did Fat Bottomed Girl win?
Aw, you guys are SO good. Thanks.
MP, the cat thing just happened last week. I'm tellin' you guys, I'm just livin' la vida loca here. Now arguing with the nursing home about giving Mom actual restorative PT versus "maintenance" PT, which is not enough. Arrgh.
When we got Beeper as a kitten, she had such a beautiful little face that we decided to name her Shane (Yiddish for pretty, as in "shane punim"--pretty face). She was a tiny little fluffball and you could still see the pink skin under the fluff because she was only 6 1/2 weeks old. She would launch herself at our two-month old Abby, Sara, and when Sara would fight back, the fluffball would emit these indignant little beeping sounds. So we started calling her Beeper. And she is a typical Siamese, constantly yakking, very social, very much the grande dame. And Kit has it right, too (Kit, you must have cats or have had them)--she's a total head-butting, head-rubbing cat. We love her.
Thanks, yawl.
My cats were my babies... I had two. Had to leave them behind when I moved (XH has and loves them now) because DG is allergic, but I'm always plotting and schemeing about some way I can get them back and have them in my life... If I can't find a way... y'know...
Tsukiko "little moon" for her huge-pupiled eyes, was called 'squeaker' as a kitten because she was always very, very talkative (I was home all the time thru her kittenhood and talked to her, so it was normal for her to 'answer') sometimes "spook" too, because she'd get a kick out of raising every hair on her little body (full back ruff and bottlebrush tail) and tear*** through the house, bouncing off the walls. Balanced? No. Fun? Yes. :D I love that little girl. I think I cried more over leaving them than I did about leaving my ex. :(
Salsa, my heart goes out to you and DH and little Beeper. I'm glad to hear she's doing better. My cats are my littlest hearts. They're 16 & 17 years old, and seemingly in good health, although I suspect diabetes in Ariel, as she seems to be drinking a lot more water lately. I need to get them in for a check up. I know they can't last forever, or even that many years longer, but losing them will break my heart. They've been through everything with me for nearly two decades. They've been the steady, stable ones.
J. passed an important test on Friday, when he first met the cats. He went right to them, and talked to and petted them. What most impressed me is that Ariel didn't run away or hiss, as she usually does with new people. She let him pet her several times, even turning her head so he could scritch her jawline. She, more than Isaac, really reflects my state of mind/spirit. I took a picture of them with my cell phone the other day. They often sleep on top of the living room radiator, where I have a long bench cushion, and a bowl of water on the window sill for them. This particular morning I found Ariel sleeping with her head resting on Isaac's butt. She's usually pretty particular about maintaining her own space. It was so uncharacteristic that I snuck up and got a picture without waking them. It reflects how relaxed and happy I'm feeling.
Now J. and I are talking about going to Italy instead of Paris, as it occurred to us that Paris might well be as cold and rainy as Chicago in mid-March! :D Ah, this is very nice.
Dar, I'd be happy to look at your profile, and to send you mine. PM me, OK?
Nanci, have a GREAT TIME at IMFL! We'll all be rooting for your BF and for Melissa. It occurs to me, though, that I will be away from a computer most of the weekend. I get to spend most of Sat and Sun with J! This is the first time we've had more than just a couple of hours at a time to spend together. We're both looking forward to just hanging out with each other. Then on Sunday, my sister's giving a talk at the Chicago Humanities Festival, and J. gets to meet my mom and sister. I would say ":eek: ", but I'm really not scared about it. Isn't that nice. :) L.
I so understand what you say. And by the way, our other cat, 15-year-old half-Abby Nina, has had diabetes and IBS for four or five years. The insulin injections are not hard at all and don't bother her a bit. So it's perfectly livable. The IBS, when it flares up, complicates the diabetes, but that's a different issue. And that's how Nina got diagnosed, by the way---that summer, she was following me as I watered flower beds and frantically drinking from all the puddles.
I do believe that we hand our whole hearts over to our animals in a way that we never do to even our most loved human companions. With people, there are certain defenses that are good and healthy, or at least in our nature, to keep up; with animals, none of that exists and you just love them without reserve, which is the delight of it all. I wouldn't miss it. But it's damn painful sometimes. We lost the first Abby, Sara, when she was a year and a half old (Car. Now we have Invisible Fence, since we could never deal with that guilt again. And for those who want to know, it works just fine with cats). Sara was the love of Mr. Salsa's life--he really did hand his heart over to her--and he sobbed his heart out when we had to put her to sleep. I don't ever want to see that happen to him again. He got his heart broke.
Geez, guys, I don't mean to be morbid. I think I need Xrayted's Calvin and Hobbes pumpkin. Not to mention the Three Stooges, who still make me laugh, sick though that may be.
Kit, Tsukiko sounds like a blast. Got any pics, or was that too hard to do?
I have *such* a hard time living without cats. DG tries, because she's always been allergic (and her dad, too) she's always had gerbils and rodenty things... so we got rats... and as genuinely bright and affectionate as rats are, they're sooo not cats or even close to being a replacement for them. *sigh* I try not to think about it. WOW ladies! Pretty gabby today, eh? Lets see how long I can get, shall we? I see one of our newest isn't such a little ray o' sunshine afterall. PITA. That's all I gotta say on that subject. Next!
It was just gorgeous here today. 63 degrees and sunny. I rode in town to my former hospital early this a.m. to say howdy to all the folks who taught me everything I know about xrays. (Yeah, boss, it's all their fault. **points at the competing hospital** ;)) OMG, the ribbing I got for walking in in bike shorts. I got hazed pretty good. I can take it as well as I can dish it out tho so it's all groovy. Then I took a spin around the countryside just in case this is the last nice day for a while. (Oh please don't let it be the last good day!)
Was in the OR a lot today and learned something very interesting... When changing into OR scrubs, I realized I now fit into a size small!!! Yea!!! When I started there 2 months ago, size medium was a tad snug. I came home tonight and celebrated by - what else? - getting on the trainer for an hour.
Waltzing Matilda
by Marie Cowan
Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong
Under the shade of a Coolibah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he watched and waited til his billy boiled
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tuckerbag
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he watched and waited til his billy boiled
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
Up rode the squatter mounted on his thoroughbred
Down came troopers one two three
Whose that jumbuck you've got in the tuckerbag?
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he watched and waited til his billy boiled
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
Up jumped the swagman and sprang into the billabong
You'll never catch me alive said he
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
My elkhound must have figured it out because she's been taking off into the swamp first thing in the morning and last thing at night (I can't see her in the dark). Now I suppose I could dig out my tie outs and tie them up but I'm too lazy. The border collie comes back when I call him but not Miss Thang. So last night I left her butt outside and left the back garage door open for when she decided to come home. Around midnight I hear her barking - at the front door! I was so mad at her that I just let her in and barked at her to go lay down. Da*n dog slept on my couch last night! So this morning I put their collars on and let them out in the front. Normally, they won't go around the side of the house because she got zapped once (which is why I was surprised she ended up at the front door last night). They stayed put. Yesterday morning after she decided to waltz home, I watched here turn around and stare at the swamp then get into the "pounce" position (I think she's a reincarnated cat). Suddenly a deer walks into the yard looking at the dog. They stare at each other....the deer steps closer....the dog holds her position....the deer runs to the neighbors yard and Xena gives chase and STOPS AT THE LOT LINE!!!! I don't get it, that dog will run through the back yard to the swamp and stops at the sides??? I guess I just need to leave their collars on again and if she does it once more I'll walk her into the fence. I hate doing it but it's bow hunting around here and she could get herself shot running in the swamp with her light-colored bootie. Arrggghhh....vent over.
I have a potluck dinner tonight and I'm in charge of the veggie. Couldn't think of anything last night and it's very cold and windy today so I made minestrone. And I finally get to play a board game - Apples to Apples!
dar the melon is feeling a bit better so far this morning, but the heavy duty drugs didn't seem to work their majic like they usuall do. i couldn't manipulate the vertabrae back to where it needs to be. which is kinda scary. usually it works just fine. i have to say i slept good. had a hot compression on my neck last night to relax the muscles and my puppies kept coming over to check on me and give me really wet kisses. ahh the doggie love. good luck with your rugrats.
*drools* sour skittles....
Quiet night last night, quiet day today. Watched "stick it" ... an obviously teen-geared movie about gymnasts. Interesting, anyway. Made me glad I had a childhood not centered around training for something.
Got a voicemail from the new job, regarding the results of my credit/background check. I'm on pins and needles, but I want to listen to it when DG is awake... but I want to let her get all the sleep she needs, so I have to behave myself and be patient...
gotta clean the house- having friends over for dinner... (!) Haven't done that in a while. that's about it...
Chica, I hope you can get your neck all fixed... I worry 'bout ya.
I'm off work today, had an appt with the Dermatologist. He removed 4 moles a few weeks ago, one just cosmetic it could get irritated and 3 were pre-pre-pre cancerous. It's healing fine and now I'll have to go see him every 6 months for a while.
My dermatologist commented on my "farmer tan" and light glove line, but the sun damage is where I thought "the sun don't shine"
I celebrated the progress by ordering an SPF protective shirt. Did you know that our clothes have almost no protection from the sun?
I wimped out on riding to the appt :o which may have been a good thing. Sky was dry when I drove there, rained while I was in, dry while I drove to get haircut, rained while I was inside, dry on drive home, now light drizzle...
Trek420
11-02-2006, 12:22 PM
nope nope, according to the good doc non SPF clothing is about 2-4 SPF. In a way it's worse, you think it's protected so stay out longer.
Funny thing is my back is fine. He says even though I have dark hair and eyes complection-wise I'm a redhead and burn easily.
so sunscreen, hats blah blah from now on. :o
Lise
11-02-2006, 12:55 PM
Wow, Trek, that's useful info. Thanks. I'm a blue-eyed blonde, with solid redhead on my mom's side. Come to think of it, I'm really a blue-eyed grey-haired person, the blonde used to be real though...:p Anyway. I am diligent about applying sunscreen to uncovered parts of the body, but didn't think about putting it under clothing. Now it's so cold here that I doubt any sunrays are penetrating my many layers, but come spring/summer, I'll be much better about getting it all over. Like Nanci, I like that Neutrogena SPF 45 spray stuff.
Glad the doc visit went OK, and that the reports were good on the moles. I got some vicious sunburns in childhood, and am sort of waiting for the other shoe to drop about my skin. I have one thing on my belly that was worrying me, but my doc said it was a "senile keratosis" or age spot. Lovely. Beats the heck out of melanoma! Give me senile keatoses any day! :rolleyes:
I managed 10km this morning before another flat..I was right beside the train line and only had to walk 5min to the station. I didn't have time to change it as i'd be there forever and start work at 630 so I'll have to change it after work and speak to my lbs guys about it. Need to go there anyways as i only have one spare tube left....
I really needed a run tonight, but I convinced DH it was okay to not be with me all the time and he took a prospective professor out to dinner. He has called every 15 minutes to ask how my head is, do I have any symptoms, etc. It is nice to be loved, but maybe not quite so much? Then my back-up running partner (yep I am 37 and I am not supposed to exercise alone-SIGH) came home from school with a nasty cold. He better not be faking to get out of running with his mother. CC, whether using levers contributed to your recent string of flats is one of the UNKNOWABLES OF THE UNIVERSE. We are currently using match.com as our source for prospective mates, but will do our best as supporters of this project to find suitable men from our own family, friends and fellow bikers. Great profile, Dar!
Snap, I have a treo 700. I have had Palms for about 10 years, and the ones with email capability for about 5 years - basically when they started making them. 3 years ago I finaly switched to just using one unit for both cell phone and email. I had a treo 600 for 3 years and when the phone started to crap out, I got the 700. So far so good. It's not wifi, but EVDO or somethnig internet which is super fast.
