Good one Knot - I like it!

Snap, I have an older Palm, but I've lost the stilus, broken the cover and have reverted back to a paper planner:(

Kit, congrats on the new job! Can I ask what it is??

Thanks for the kind words on the profile ladies. What's a girl to do with so little spare time? I don't know how else to meet people so I'm committing to more road bike rides next summer - now that's good strategy!

I haven't done squat at work today. The boss is gone and I'm spending too much time here. Not that it's bad, just a good way to get fired, you know?

Off to lunch, maybe I can get motivated to work after this. I can't exactly log 3 hours of TD on my timesheet for the day!

CC come on you know you want to join the humor thread... you just want to. you hear that little voice that says "join in on the fun". see you must listen to the voices!

Dar i do swear, but i can't see your page because of work and damn gov't blocks! how did you find out about me and kit? who told you?

Kit ssssshhhh! only you know about those pictures. kinda funny you bring that up though because of snap saying WW. guess what my first thought was.

Snap hold out, its not worth eating away those WW points in one sitting. trust me, been there done that and felt like cr@p afterwards.

Kit, congratulations! Will this be regular, day-time hours? Wahoo! :D :D :D

Dar, I love your pledge. I remember seeing some interesting looking guys in the Wisconsin area, I just didn't want to date anybody that far away from home. Stick to your guns, say no quickly to the ones you don't like, and you'll be clearing the space for the one you really do like.

KN, get going on that grad school application! My mother is a librarian, will retire this year. Hers is a "Master's of Library Science", a degree that no longer exists. My dad was a teacher, one g'ma a librarian, the other a teacher...you get the idea! I think Science Librarian sounds like a great job.

I haven't seen J. for three whole days. We get to spend most of tomorrow and Sunday together. Really looking forward to that. Tonight I'm going to see Inherit the Wind, the play, with my mom. I've finally admitted that I have a cold. I have been calling it "allergies" all week, and I've been so tired from working all the call shifts that I figured I felt lousy from fatigue. This is not changing any of my plans, btw, just the meds I'm using to treat the symptoms!

Back to work at the clinic.

DO NOT buy airline tickets through Frontier Airlines!!!!

KEEEEEEEEEE-RAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

I thought my ticket was with Southwest, (I did travelocity, which I can't get back into, it says I don't exist). I called SWA and explained that I wouldn't be doing the travel I planned after all, and they were nice and wonderful and helpful and said I could have full credit toward any ticket anywhere SWA flies, no problem that I got it through Travelocity. SWA loves me anyway.

Ooops, but when we investigated further we discovered my ticket was with Frontier Airlines.

Called Frontier. Bite me. No refunds, tough tiddles. You got it through Travelocity, that's policy.

I just wanna cry. It's not the money (this has been an expensive break-up, but it's worth it), it's just that I feel thwarted. Frustrated. And I am hurting financially, dammit. And SWA was so nice to me on the phone and ready to help me right then and there, and Frontier was so not-nice.

I know, I'm whining. I gotta go do errands and get off my butt. Damm. <sniff. whimper.>

Snap- I am glad to see you are back with the living. I do not have a PDA, not surprising, I have a cell phone I never use.

CC- The humour thread is just too much fun to ignore.

Knot- How is the grad school application coming along? I too need to pay bills.

Kit- Congratulations!!

Dar-Every time I "make" my eldest run with me, he runs me hard. I swear he is out to give me heart failure. Okay, okay, we passed a cute teen girl running the other day and maybe, just maybe, I spoke a tad too loudly about her to him....
OPERATION FROG: Your bio is awesome and you are very pretty. :)
No holding back, I said the pledge, now who is Mr. IL??
Hey, there is no shame in spending 3 hours in TD. :D

CWR-remember, you are not counting the days. Now go home and take some medicine and lie down.

Lise-I saw Inherit the Wind years ago and loved it. Have fun! 3 days without J? I am sure you two will make up for lost time this weekend. :D I too have a nasty cold-darn. Nyquil-Cold seems to help. I wish it would allow me to sleep.

Yup, and it would be more expensive than just buying a ticket flat-out on Southwest. Frontier only goes through Denver, so it gets expensive to go anywhere.

When I need airline tickets, I'm going to get 'em through SouthWest because they were nice to me. And they are amazingly cheap.

Gotta agree there! Four of us are going to Vegas, booking through SW Vacations. Three of us got our reservations at The Orleans, but when the fourth finally got around to it, the website said they were booked. She ended up somewhere else, so I called SW Vacations to see if they could move us all to the other place. The guy checked around, then came back with "I found a room at Orleans, should I just move her there?" I "heart" Southwest too.

Pants.

I just got a pair of pants this afternoon for work. Dressing and undressing and dressing and undressing.

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate shopping? I love ordering through catalogs, but I hate *going* to the store and *shopping* for clothes.

and some people do that for FUN?!?!

Anyway, they are Columbia Edgewater Chinos. Not as sexy as the North Face pants. Size 10 fit just fine, and gave me the nice "perky buns" look, but I got 12's so I'd have room to move at work. I'll have to put a belt in 'em to keep 'em up, but that's ok. At least Columbia has short, regular, and long inseams. It's hard to find that in women's pants, but men's seem to always come in lengths. Why is that?

Hopefully I have enough work pants now (3 pr) that I won't have to do that again for a while.

Sorry about the tix. I agree with the SWA assessment. They're great. Good customer service and cheap to boot. I've been online lately looking at where I can go with them for my next vacation. (since I actually have time and money for one again) Lots of choices in the US. Can you try to sell your current tix on Craig's List or Ebay?

Dressing, undressing... do we get to choose which?  ( Oh, that's gonna cause problems.**slaps forehead**)

X- Sounds like a super hero...:D I have had a spinal tap, what is spinal pressure? Sounds nicer. Hold On! Why is tonight a special one? Lap Dancer? Is it your Birthday??? Inquiring minds must know.

With the tap, they probably took a sample of cerebral spinal fluid and tested it. While they were there, they should have checked your pressure. Since the spinal fluid runs into your ventricles of your brain, they can look to see if it's too high, causing undue pressure. It can affect you with headaches, migraines, dizzyness, pains all over your body, syncopal episodes... If they find you run very high normally, and taking some out relieves symptoms, they may be able to do a shunt type of thing. Just a thought.

i know that, and you know that, but do they know that? now they do, but do they really? :p

CWR and Kit - hmmm... intriguing. You know I'll investigate and find out, don't you? I've got infinite patience.

Kit, those pants boochy out at the waist/kidneys because you and I have hourglass figures. Curvaceous hips and slender pinched waists. Most women's clothes are made with wider waists than we have, cuz most women have wider waists than we have. Or is it that we have wider hips?

Anyway, if you need business casual, try Columbia pants. I have fairly good luck with them. Waists are still a little big, but not impossibly so. Coldwater Creek chinos aren't too bad, either. Horny Toad is pretty decent, depending on the style. Some Royal Robbins are ok.

Good old fashioned shrink-to-fit button fly Levi 501's will work, too. As will Levi 560 (men's, they don't make women's anymore)

I wear 31w 32L men's 560s, or women's 12 long 560s (still have one pair left from 5 or 10 years ago)

What I wear in s-to-f 501s is, of course, very different. But they do shrink, and they do fit. Though mine get so loose after a couple days that I have to wash and dry them again to get them snug enough. Next time I'll get smaller ones.

And as for the jeans thing, I must offer my rant: I loathe (yes loathe) that I can never find jeans that fit both my waist and hips. Is it a rule that if a woman has even a smide of "junk" that the waist will be big too?? Jeans for me are always too big in the waist. This is why I usually wear low rise. They at least come close.

I lied. I'm back already. I'm getting quicker at positioning and technique, what can I say? (Oh, you know what I mean.)
You're a real bunch of chatty Cathy's tonight aren't ya?:D
BMo3 - actually doesn't hurt except for a needle pinch. For the pressure, they go in at L3-4 level of your spine, below the cauda equina. There is no spinal cord there, just "shooters". No chance of paralyzing or damage. They use a manometer (barometer) to measure mm of mercury of pressure. (I say "they" but I actually help with these.) Takes about 30 minutes. Can tell them a lot. But like I said, they probably did that when you had the tap. It's standard to do it while you're there.

Eat the donuts and don't look back.

Knot - Looove my BF Levis. I've got the hourglass curves too. I'm getting looser in my 8's and heading back to a 6 I hope. Next year maybe. 29 inseam tho so I'm right in between a short and a medium length. I'd really love to pull out those old, comfy, tore up, broken-in size 6 BF's and take 'em for a spin. Of course, I don't have the cut abs you've got. And NO, it wasn't just the lighting and ya know it. You earned 'em so show 'em off.

Kit - don't let him get to you. Big ones just become looooong ones anyway.

Oh, I see you're wondering about last year's "dance", huh? It was hilarious and crazy and totally unexpected. I'm not gotten easily and they got me good. But not telling on here. Sorry. **blushing**

I'll check back later if I'm not too plastered. (cheap date=early night:o )

My last post suddenly seemed really dumb after recent events. I'd just posed it when a lady comes crying to my office and says a man is outside "who shouldn't be here."
Who is he?
Her ex, who said he'd kill her new boyfriend and her if he saw them together. He's pacing the parkinglot looking for her.

I go over our policies and procedures because I've been written up enough for not using policy (and instead, *gasp!* using logic...)
Policy says: If you're the only officer on duty and there's a suspicious person on property, take the cell phone and radio and call a manager to inform them when you're leaving and ask them to check in on you every 5 minutes.

The manager on deck instead comes to the office and says he wants to speak with me in person, will check in, but will also watch to see when I come back. I could kiss him.

One of our emergency personnel overhears this and says "I'm going with you- you're not going alone." I could kiss him, too. He calls a big bear of a guy over and says "You come with us." Bear-guy nods. The woman points the guy out and we start out. Me in front (though at my size, I'm not all that excited about this...) and the two big guys behind me. I ask him if he works here, no, he's looking for his wife... well your wife starts shift now, she's not available for discussion... ...well, she doesn't know what she's doing, ending our relationship I need to talk to her... well, you have her phone number... you can speak to her outside of work with a mediator...
He keeps stepping toward me and then backing away a little as we converse. The big guys behind me get closer. He assures me his life is over and gets in his truck.

Eventually he leaves, telling me I can't possibly understand, and all the while I'm thanking everything Good that my divorce wasn't that way, and that things didn't go bad. The guy burns rubber out of our parking lot and I'm standing there in the pouring rain watching to make sure he leaves the property without hurting anyone.

I'm positively shaking as I come back into the building, thanking the guys who went out with me and the manager who waited.

Now I know I face getting written up (again?) for violating procedure because when the ERT guy volunteered to go outside with me, I should have said no and recruited a manager to go outside with me instead (liability issues) and probably also that I called a manager in the first place (who knows?)

Security officers are some of the most sh*t on people out there... 9/10 of the time if something bad happens, it's either my *ss or my manager's if things aren't done *exactly* the way people want them done, regardless of the situation. If I'd have taken the time to call another manager down, I'd get pinched for taking unnecessary risk in allowing him to be on the grounds longer than necessary. If I'd have refused the guys' help, I'd be pinching *myself* for going out there alone to inform a 6'8" bull of a guy that his (ex) wife no longer wanted to speak to him.
I kinda want to cry. I wish I didn't have to write that f*cking report. Thank god I'm leaving this place.

Good old fashioned shrink-to-fit button fly Levi 501's will work, too. As will Levi 560 (men's, they don't make women's anymore)

I wear 31w 32L men's 560s, or women's 12 long 560s (still have one pair left from 5 or 10 years ago)

Most of my wear-to-work pants are men's Dockers 30x32. Great fit with just a little extra in the waist (should remember to wear belt). In Levis I got 31x32 but they're always drooping. I have given up on women's pants because they either don't have pockets, don't have enough pockets, or the pockets are so shallow that things fall out. I don't really like the front pockets on jean because you have to put your hands in from the top, and they cut off your circulation if you leave your hands there very long. The side-entry pockets of Dockets are much better.

X- glad to hear it was mostly pain free.

KIT - Glad it all turned out ok. I too would have done the same thing. But I am a non-conformist.

BOM3 - I too keep dropping the lb-age (yay for us!) so I am all for cheap right now as I have been changing a size about every two months. Lee Riders seem to be working for me right now and they are only about $16 at Wally World (high waisted but they will do). Once I drop two more sizes I will look into the Lucky Brand. Sounds like they would be exactly what I am looking for. (I love Ebay - Ebay is my friend). :)

What's going to get me is a catch-22. If I say the guys came along for my safety, I'll get pinched b/c I didn't call the police. ...though I didn't believe the police to be really necessary. The guy was upset, yes, but it would've been worse to have the police there just to confront him and say he wasn't to be there... I'd have rather called once he proved himself threatening. Then again, if I didn't feel threatened, then why did I let the guys come with me in the first place?

...because I'm freakin 5'4 and barely over 100#... EVERYONE threatens me!!! *sigh*:(

I'm glad you guys support me in this... I just spoke to the lady who was so upset... she confirmed my feelings in that the police weren't necessary, but that it was a good idea to have someone go with me. I told her that if she was so concerned, she needed to get a restraining order in place. I'm not sure how much they cost (working here, cost is a definite concern for anyone) but if she was so concerned for her safety, it would help her a lot...

You guys are great, btw... I really love being able to post here.

The numbers are 'leet' speak... 5 for s, 3 for E and the like... It helps to just glance at it and pretend they're all just characters without making the distinction between letters/numbers. It's all well and good until you start trying to print things quick and throw numbers in where they don't belong... :P

*resists urge to comment on Knot's booty*

The perfect 'a$$-tap' can be achieved by very slightly cupping the hand and making contact with the lower part of the fingers, making a flicking motion of the wrist rather than a full-arm motion. The sound achieved should be a nice, sharp "tap" instead of a "fwap", "putch" or "Ca-RACK!"and while loud enough to be audible, be nearly painless.
Much practice is recommended. As much as necessary. :D

There we go, a lesson for the TD TOC :D

Kit (((HUGS))) let me echo the "you did the right thang" here missy. Cuz you're an intelligent woman darlin'. And if you had your glasses on you could have given him the Linda Hamiliton Terminator look - that would have scared me.

Knot, can I have a bowl? Pretty please? I only had a piece of string cheese and some Sun chips for supper. OK SNAP - I cracked and had one cookie! drat it all.....

Tonight is one of my on the road bringing my baby to his dad's trips so that's why supper is cruddy. I only have enough time to run to dc, pick him up, run home and let the dogs out while B goes potty and if I'm lucky I can get a sandwich in him before we hit the road. Tonight he wanted Sun chips and I cracked.

Half way there my ADORABLE son says he want's to stop at the bike store:D (that's my boy!) and when we get to the drop off place he crys and won't let go of my leg cause he wants to go back home with me. Breaks my heart when he does that.

BMo3 - I think you've earned a donut. Just don't let it become a habit or we'll have to send Super Kit over to remove the donuts and no one gets hurt. I haven't tried under armour yet but I did buy some polyprop long undies and a balaclava on my way home. I'll be running this weekend and some ya-hoo is calling for snow flurries tomorrow. Whatever.

Kit--good job, well done. Kudos to the emergency bears, as well. A restraining order doesn't cost anything. She can call the cops and ask how to file one. I contemplated getting one against my ex.

Had a good time at dinner and the play with my mom. In a funny tie-in to Kit's story, Mom asked me when I changed my license plates. They used to include my initials, and now they're just numbers. About 5 years ago, the Great State of Illinois finally issued new plates. Some plates were 15 years old and totally rusted. They gave us the opportunity to get a new plate number, which I did, since my ex was known to call me after we'd broken up and say, "I know where you are", when she spotted my car/plates. I call my current plates "the anonymizers". Even though S. hasn't given me trouble for years, I feel safer with my anonymous plates and non-descript American made car. With the "End Domestic Violence" ribbon on the back.

Oh, there's trouble a brewin' on TD again. Hi, y'all I'm back and feeling very happy. (No, I didn't drive.) A good time was had by all. I had a great Pom Martini and one of the best Cosmos ever. More than enough to rock my world. I still have all my clothes on and no one's in jail so that's good. (I think.;)) They couldn't do too much to me this year because of the tasteful setting. (Thank you, O Gods of Public Decency.)

I've never had a hangover in my life but tomorrow is still gonna be a tough wakeup. I'm meeting up with AllezGirl for a 30 mile group ride and lunch. She's loaning me a mtb for the trail. Very cool of her.

Kit - You did the right thing. Always protect yourself first. You can't help anyone if you're hurt or dead. A job is NEVER worth getting hurt over. Good head on ya there.

Darby - Whaaaaat? It was a completely innocent post.:D BTW, cheap and easy - there's a difference? I'm kidding, kidding. Swear.

Knot - Great taste in music. Except, I just gotta ask, there's actually a song called Honky Tonk Badonkadonk? (or am I still that drunk and cross-eyed?) I'd love some stew but I'm stuffed. What time is b-fast? Can I come in my jammies?

Trek - I had to read your post 3 times. Don't scare me like that. I was literally sitting here with a silent scream in my head, "Pleeeease don't become a guy, I really couldn't handle it tonight!":p I'm better now. Close call tho. Thought I was gonna have to stage an intervention. ** just zip over on a SW flight, do a drive by and grab Knot, (to help out, figured I better clarify that ;)) snag some stew then hop another jet across a few more state lines to kick ya in the shins** (Yep, still drunk. Sorry.)

I'm sitting here realizing that I still haven't posted a pic of myself. I meant to do it sooner but forgot. Since Knot was wondering how I surf the net while I ride on the trainer, I dug one up that my friend Carrie shot - when I wasn't ready. (She cooked for me, isn't that nice?) It'll have to do for now I guess. (I know I'm gonna regret this one in the morning when I'm sober.) I feel an edit coming on already.

Well, I've bugged ya all enough and I've really gotta get some sleep now. Take care and pleasant bike dreams.

(10 min both) It keeps me at a slower, softer pace until the muscles are properly warmed up/cooled down. I noticed that when on the trainer, I was pushing it too far too fast and hurting my bad leg so this helps me keep it under control. And, I get plenty of laughs to reflect on as well.

Deb - I'm with you. I'm hungry, I don't want to cook or shop right now (cuz it means dishes). I just want some of Knot's stew.....

X - you hot tamale you! Glad you had a good time. Enjoy the biking today.

So I slept in until 10am this morning! Of course, I still had to get up at 7am to let the dogs out. And the weather dude was right on - snow flurries. I took them for a walk/run and now I'm getting ready to tackle paperwork and the mess that is my house. So is there a computer gadget I can wear running/walking to tell me how far I've gone? I ran mostly in the woods today cuz it's easier on my shins. I've penciled in a 5K for Nov. 26th so I need to get crackin'.

Project FROG update: IL guy (who lives in WI btw) left me a message last night. He's supposed to call today. My friend S. (who I'd love to be more than friends with), called and we chated last night. And a 47 yo Italian guy from Madison wants to talk to me and emailed me his phone number. I'm such a chicken sh*t. I need to just call and chat with him right?

Off to do paperwork, I'll cbl.

Uh oh, Chica, Darby's on to you! :D You can't fake abs like that. ;) I had the gallery up in a firefox tab until I got tired of my gf stealing peeks at them.

OK, so today I tell the manager that next Friday's my last day. Whew. I hope. Unless something else crappy happens. Oh, and it's 1 and I'm still in my pjs... well... sorta. It's chilly to wander in my 'pjs' so I just keep thermals near the bed.
Looking into hard drives and ram for my poor, overused, under-maintained laptop. it's only got an 18gb hd, (hence the small price tag) but I want to throw a 40-60gb hd in and maybe max out the ram... Yes, the processor is only 700mHz but it tries. I need to replace the battery, too, so it'll hold a fsking charge... but if my new mgr wants me to use it for work, then it needs all the work... AND if the new mgr is willing to pay for a new battery, then hey! :) I'm in business.

I love this little computer, too, so we shall see...

CC - iTunes tells me Eskimo Joe isn't available in the US market. I am bummed.

My two favorite songs of all time: (play 'em at my wake, ok?)
Black Water by The Doobie Brothers
Dreams I'll Never See by Molly Hatchett
Brandenburg Concerto #3 by J.S. Bach
(I subscribe to the Douglas Adams theory of counting)

Black Water by far is on the top 5 list of my all time favorites. Along with it are Manfred Man Blinded by the Light; REO Time for me to Fly; BOC Don't fear the Reaper; and about 10 others that are vying for the 5th spot.....

The numbers are 'leet' speak... 5 for s, 3 for E and the like... It helps to just glance at it and pretend they're all just characters without making the distinction between letters/numbers. Well I still have not found a jacket, but I did splurge and buy my self some Under Armour. I luuuuuve Under Armour.

My big purchase was on Under Armour Frosty Tights: http://www.underarmour.com/ProductDetail.cfm?site_id=2&dept_id=1&coll_id=2101&pf_id=1001525
I had a fantastic run in them. :D

Do you think my medications are making me more cold than usual?

It was 45 degrees, no real wind, and overcast. I wore a LS UA compression (cold weather) top, a fleecy lined Sugoi half zip top, UA Frosty Tights, Smart Wool socks, and my Ibex hat. I started to feel comfortable at mile 4. It must be the Coumadin and Calan mixture. I have not been able to get warm for the past month. :(

Anyway, any suggestions for more layers would be awesome. I still had a fantastic run.

BMo3 - I'm a size 10/12. I don't really look that good, it's just the pose. SKnot is a good photographer, even though he complained the ENTIRE TIME he took the pic.

The new CW-X doesn't have the gray trim, and I think being solid black does make it look nice. Did you order the new one with trim or without? I think there was one with pink or lavender trim on TE, too.

I'm so glad Susan decided to carry the CW-X line. That's some good stuff!

I'm finally back from my ride with AllezGirl. What a wonderfully warm person. She let me borrow a mtb for the trail ride. That girl has long legs. I had to drop the saddle about a foot. What I wouldn't give for long legs like that. Got to meet some very interesting people including one guy who knows Susan O. Good stories. We got a few women turned on to TE I think. They are definitely gonna check it out. Great day but man am I shot. Going out to dinner tonight yet too. (9pm - who eats that late anyway?) Hope I don't fall asleep in my Seafood Mornay. Too tired so no martinis tonight. We're going to Bube's Brewery in Mount Joy. We're eating down in the Catacombs Restaurant, something like 60 feet below ground, where they used to brew/bootleg booze back in the day. I love that place.

Pages 1-135 can be basically summed up in the following life lessons:

1. Don't poop on the floor. Ref. p. 96.
2. Lise's dating life is ALL IMPORTANT.
3. Peter Reid has neck wattles. ...according to Nanci. Lise still thinks he's hot stuff. It's an ongoing thing between them...
4. "Coke Alert" means "Don't read this drinking something, you'll spray your keyboard/monitor!"
5. Port goes with chocolate, but chocolate goes with everything!
After that, I've had to be a little more picky (and even then... since I do this at work I lose a lot of ground, and a lot is banter, too...

p. 138- brain bucket helmets
. 139- B18 saddles- Downing St.
141- nopale salad
142,143 asst'd bird info...

Ongoing jokes, running gags, and recurring topics:

Peter Reid
Herpes and Avian creatures
Wines/Beers/etc
Various states of intoxication
Australian delicacies that Americans can't get (or were briefly made illegal)
Lise's dating life
Trek's dating life
The idea that Road IDs should have Lise's and Trek's numbers on them. (after rescuing so and so, if you're a nice, single boy, call # or a nice, single girl, call #) (Reference page, anyone?)
(these seem outdated, though...)
Bike erotica (as in the delicate art of describing one's bike in suggestive ways)

Binary, actually. First of all, you need to be able to covert decimal to binary, if you don't go there first. The way ASCII is laid out, it's actually not that hard. Lowercase letters start at 97 and Uppercase start at 65, which may not look significant in base 10, but it is in base 2. For lowercase letters you write 011 then a five bit number for the letter number ("a" is 1, "b" is 2...). The reason it has to be a 5 bit number is that ASCII is 8 bits per character, just get the number in binary and add as many padding zeros as you need (for example, "b" is 10 in binary, with padding zeros it's 00010) So "b" would be 01100010. "g" is 01100111. For uppercase you just do the same thing, but with 010 instead of 011.

Now you just have to remember that 00100000 is a space and 00101110 is a period, and you can read and write whole sentences!

I cannot imagine you lying - even flirtatiously
I might (just might) concede that you fell through accidentally.

Margo- Me? lie? Especially not flirtatiously! :D

Cyclchyc, I give up. I've looked at your avatar every day now and tried to figure it out. I don't think I can. If it's a bizarre piece of rorshack work, I can't really tell you what I *think* it is, then... (a worm on a fishing hook, with bubbles?) ... oop, my cheese head's showing! ...

Is it modern art? It doesn't look like letters hidden in an interesting way...

Hi all, I spent countless hours today reading TE and catching up on TD. Hubby is away and I am alone and incredibly bored.

Anyway, I found a great site with 2500+ ideas for cycling/sports related t-shirts. Thought I'd sahre it with you.

http://www.cafepress.com/buy/cycling/-/pg_1

I would post some of my favourites but can't seem to download the thumbnails...

Anyway, it's worth a look if you're looking for biking Christmas gift ideas.

Not all are bike-related though, this one made me think of Trek...

Kits - really. It's only a *suggested* time.... :D Hang on a minute, think I might have one stashed in a glove in my underwear drawer. Not sure who I'd be hiding it from since I got it from my one of my kids...

Much safer up here though. Not sure it's a good idea down there in "3 strikes and you're out" land....

A glove? use one of those film canisters with a lettuce leaf in it to keep it moist and sticky.
1620 is actually quite an awkward time. You're either still at work or it's just waaaay too early and you're shot all day. ... so I hear. ...on TV. ...and in Canada. Blame Canada!

No kidding. That's what happens when people start to specialize in growing/breeding. If average folks just had wild plants in their yard, I can guarantee it wouldn't be half as strong (on average... there'll still be weird strains like blueberry, orange, skunk and purple alaskan)... The sheer amount of work and time alone to force budding etc is crazy. I had a friend with a card who was allowed to grow his own and he said the combination of science and eastern philosophy that went into it was fascinating. I didn't pay as much attention as I could've b/c that stuff doesn't interest me a whole lot... I just like knowing as much as I can (i.e. just enough to get me in trouble) on as many different weird subjects as I can... ;)

I thought it was still illegal in CA to grow one's own? (is it CA or CN?) something about "illegal to possess with intent to sell, illegal to distribute" but...? I'm not up on Canada's laws concerning that necessarily. just thinking that with the legal risk involved, the start-up costs and the possibility of entire crop wipe-outs (hermaphrodite crops from the wrong temp/light combination, not enough CO2, spider mites...) I can understand those costs as much as (probably more than) artists' high prices...

kit - growing it is definitely illegal. The consequences just aren't tough enough to stop people. There are lots of stores that sell all the equipment growers steal electricity so their power bills don't look out of whack. Indoor grow-ops are beginning to outnumber the outdoor ones out in the bush. And you certainly can't tell by looking at a house that it has a grow-op although there are a few tell tale signs like fences, dogs, security systems etc. Big bucks - must be tempting but not worth it in my opinion...

I am too lazy to try to translate your binary code. Got more garble when I used the online translators. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow when the wine is outta my system...

You've been borrowing? **shakes head and just smiles, wondering why I didn't know you sooner** I've got Verizon DSL at $14.99/mo. You can go to their site and put in your # to see what specials they have for your area. Or you can get a booster to plug into your computer to crank up your current "connection".

Thanks! How's this for excitement. I'm cleaning the house, raking leaves, finally stacking firewood I cut 2 days ago, already shampooed the carpets, gotta run out to look at a new vehicle I saw online, fixing a scrape on my car (before I trade it in), wash and wax said car, maybe ride the trainer and get in some Pilates time (stiff today), check TE occassionally in case y'all get nutsy (don't wanna miss what I missed yesterday ;)) and then I finally get to vedge out on the couch.

Pretty good day I'd say.

Kitsune06 "You can't have just one."

You have just...one....bike, right?

And yet you manage to keep it exciting, riding the same bike day after day. How do you manage?

Just who are these women who are true to just one bike? How do they cope with the thought that this might be the one and only bike. :p

Sure you might look at other bikes, take V.s mid-life-crisis-convertible-sports-car-red-leggy Legolas for example (hubba hubba:p ). Sure I tell Menace I will never look at another bike, she's my lifetime bike but after all I'm not dead yet. :p

Of course there's always the same bike and toys, look hun, a Topeak mini-tool  ;) :p

M thoughts exactly, Trek. Sure you can have a CX bike. She does everything... but does she do everything *exceedingly well*? If she's not the jealous type, why not tarry a little longer with that rough and ready stud muffin of a FS MTB? Enjoy a quick sprint with that super-light track bike that says "I'm too good for you." though her slim tires whisper "well, maybe not for fifty miles..."

After all, life is long. Why not have one tried and true, whose bearings you'll change out until she can no longer be repaired... ...but play with other, more specialized models on the side? Odds are, you'll still be incredibly happy to see your special one at the end of the day... and she gets to share with you what the others never will- real life, every day.
oh, and new outfits. "Look, Miz Cakes~ waddya think of these new shorts?"

Well, I'm taking a break. Got everything done but wash and wax on the car. Too cold and now it's getting dark.

So, CWR is on her way from AK to AZ by way of WV, huh? Makes total sense to me, although it probably shouldn't I guess.

HI CWR!!! **looking skyward and waving like a mad woman**

Kit - It was very superficial. A while ago when I was parked, someone must have tried to pull into the space next to me and caught the corner of my back bumper. They dimpled it way up in. It took some McGuyver-type rigging (you wouldn't believe me if I told you) and I popped it back out on my own but the scrape was still there. I have touchup paint for my color so today I just cleaned it up, painted it and buffed it smooth. Not too bad looking. You really gotta be looking closely to see it. I also repaired some tiny paint chips on the hood and front bumper.

CyclChyk - I take the 5th. (for once  )

Heading out to find a cute little Jeep next. The lots should be closed by now and I can peruse without getting harrassed. My bro D. is gonna hook me up with a hitch and do all the custom rack work for me when I'm ready. He made some small adjustments to my design to incorporate a bike and kayak setup. He's doesn't quite get why I love this stuff but he supports me 100% without questioning. (((D.))) One of my favorite people in the whole world.

I think I'd get it, actually. The repair, that is. Some dumb-*** rearended my metro a few years ago so I had to undo all the clips holding the interior facade in place and use my hand (and a rubber hammer) to put everything back where it should be. I was lucky it didn't stretch the metal beyond a good popping, but it did leave a crease there forever afterward.

That was nothing next to installing the car audio system, though... (audiophile!)

I was a good girl today and went to church *pats self on back*. Then I went for a run and dog #! poos. Next corner dog #2's turn. Geez. Then 2 boys new to the hood HAD to pet the dogs so I stopped again. Actually, I had such a knot (no, not you dear) in my left calf I had to stop anyway. What causes that? We ended up doing 4 miles then I hopped on the bike and rode 22 miles. Now I'm tired. And hungry. So I'm off to eat and then hitting the road to get my little guy back. Yippee!!

Boy, talk about a blast from the past! Binary code!
I should explain,
My first "professional" job was an assembly language programmer. For non-geeks, this is language where you say if bit 6 is on, go to this instruction, only a bit less elegantly (i,e BBST 6(R1),L0101) The company had managed to lose a tape that the mnemonic version of some program that they were having a problem with. I was assigned the task of reading the Binary (or our case, Octal) code, producing a human readable program, and finding the error.
One day, one of the senior programmer dropped by my cube and asked what the boss had me working on. She thought for a while, and finally said "Oh, that old so-and-so was working on when Committed suicide:eek: )
I did get that one fixed . (hint. a bed scheduling program shouldn't call the Indiana state payroll tax deduction calculator;) )
Only two more day till the election here in states. I'm glad I work late, two days of
"My opponent is a lair and a weasel"
"Are Not"
"Am Too"

(sigh) No Jeep yet. :( But I did see something that caught my eye... A decrepit Yugo with a Univ. of Notre Dame Alumni license plate on the bumper. I truly love ND but that had me rollin'.

Well Kit, close but no. I warned you. Here's the story...
So you know what kind of car we're talking about, I have a Chrysler Sebring Conv. I didn't take off the bumper or quarter panel. (the clips were about impossible to get at) I hoisted it up on a floorjack and chocked all the wheels good. (If it fell on me, would that qualify me for an "X marks the spot" sign? Or better yet, "spot marks the X"?) I crawled under there and tried using a rubber mallet from the inside but, you guessed it, not enough room. Walked around muttering under my breathe for a few minutes. I hate paying some guy to do something that I should be able to figure out. Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! I got my crudy little scissors jack out of the trunk, cut some small 2x4 wooden blocks and went back up in there. I placed the blocks up in the dimple, (I love duct tape!) and put the jack in between them and the frame. Then I just screwed the jack open until the blocks pushed the dimple out. I had to reposition a few times to get it all but it worked. I'm not a big beer drinker but I certainly needed one after that. **shakes head** Told you you wouldn't believe me. :D I swear I do everything azz backwards just to punish myself.

I've personally installed every car stereo I've ever had except for one car cuz I ordered it that way. No massive woofers for me. I like to hear more than just the base line. For me, the heart of a song comes from the layering, shadows, inflection...

Oh, yeah! Great piles of old punchcards with "x" over them, and use the other side for scribbly notes.

I remember scheduling for classes, you'd go to the gym, stand in line for the class you wanted, hope there was still a punch card left for that class when you got there.

After you got your cards (and often you had to change your schedule, cuz if there weren't cards left the class was full) you took the stack to the scheduler, who fed them into the machine and then gave you your official schedule.

After you got your cards (and often you had to change your schedule, cuz if there weren't cards left the class was full) you took the stack to the scheduler, who fed them into the machine and then gave you your official schedule.

That was far more sophisticated than MIT in 1974. You picked classes (on paper) and turned in the list. The computer printed your schedule. If it couldn't fit you into the classes you requested you got a schedule that said "one hour for lunch unless unavoidable conflict". I think about 20% of the students got that schedule. Yes, MIT was on the forefront of the computer age  But everyone ate lunch without fail.

Back to punch cards. If the card punch machines weren't enough to make you deaf and fray every nerve in your body, then there were the card readers. They made lots of errors. They failed in the middle of a 200 card deck. But the worst one I ever used was the one that bent your card every time it read them, and then would not read them again because they were bent. You had to store them in a card drawer with objects inserted at various points to try and bend them back overnight so they could be read again. And almost as bad as the cards and readers was JCL for IBM 360/370 computers. This was a computer language consisting of "//DDxx" and things like that. I never did understand it.

My DH's first bike after we got together was a Kawi Classic 800 (he later upgraded to the 1500; looked alot like a Fatboy) but anyhoo, we knocked out the baffles too and dam* was that thing LOUD! I still have the scar on my calf from the pipe when I "dismounted" from the wrong side of that baby.....

Sigh - those were the good ol days.

Ok KIT but you and X get to fight over shotgun cuz I'm driving first!

Fredwina- Was that with or without punch cards? I don't want to overguess the era, but the concept of computers using punch cards is just wild to me... The things you miss, jumping through space-time...

Kit, that job was really back to the future. In 1984, we had a hospital with CPU that used Vacuum tube memory....
Punch cards: It was decided that I had promise as a systems programmer, and they could not get parts for the punch card readers, so I was given the task of making the punch card drivers read a tape drive. The instructions we sent to the sites was to read the cards we sent first, then read the tape with my programs. you can guess which order the operators followed. fun job, but the company went bankrupt.
anyway, Monday, I go back to being a career dinosaur... COBOL is so much fun.. not Maybe I can get some more Java studying done.

CyclChyk - South Carolina, 71 'stang, Skynard... ah, I think I'm home! :D

I went to a Skynard concert last year. First concert in a looong time. They still kick azz. Nuthin' like a little southern fried rock to get the blood pumpin'.
Get this... SO fell asleep during the show!?! (Yeah, I know., right??) SO also got bored at the Earth, Wind and Fire/Chicago concert. Started nodding off so was sent for a nice cleansing walk. No more concerts w/ SO. Period! **shakes head** At least I don't have to sit still anymore. I can get up and rock as hard as I want when I go with my GF's. What happens at the show, stays at the show. :D

Ok X, I can accept that you fell asleep at an EW&F concert, but Skynard??? How is that humanly possible??? Do you have an "L" tat on your forehead?? ;) I realize Ronnie is no longer with us (may he rest in peace) but we still have Johnny and Donnie.......

I can't believe you feel asleep..... just for that KIT is riding shotgun and you are banished to the back seat......:D

(my last concert was in July - it was Def Leppard and "Journey" (if you can still call them that). I tried to rock out but my DH got a lil embarassed so I have to "act like an adult" - GAG )

Bad chyk. You misread it. But for that, X's SO doesn't get to come along. I'll still take the back (it's closest to the speakers!)

***comes stomping in, all wound up*** Are you kidding?? Me fall asleep at a concert?? Puhleeease!!! I'm incapable of sitting still around music.
I think Kit drives, (you get to control the volume, Kit) I'm shotgun and you get back seat. And ya gotta order and pay at the drive thru. Backseat rules.

**walks away mumbling*** the nerve of some people... suggesting... well that's just crazy... never heard of such a thing...

*wraps her arms around struggling X* Shh. Sit. Still. Deep breaths- I said RELAX!

GEEZZ PEOPLE! Cut me some slack! Its 1:30 in the a.m. cuz I can't frickin sleep and apparently I can't read either.... Fine. I will ride in the back seat  just crank it up for me. And fine, I'll order too.... geez. You guys are tough!

(Of course after I went back and re-read (yehyeh S.O. not SO) I realize Chicago was at that concert...... UGHHH!!! Everytime I hear that stupid song "Does anyone really know what time it is?" its like nails on a chalkboard. I HATE CHICAGO

There. I said it. :p And I'll say it again. I hate Chicago :p

And FYI KIT - Ford's don't have cooties! It's just a rumor started by Chevy owners out of jealousy!!

11-05-2006, 09:54 PM
I stand by that whole 'fix or repair daily' thing, m'kay? ;)

and neither Ford nor Chevy will EVER be Subarus. ;)

Ha. Sagges strike again. Talking to Felix- this silver-tongued sweety @ work. He says "Well, you know, I like to.. um... explore a lot."
I say "You mean you flirt with everything in sight."
he says "Yeah... kind of. There's a better word for it, though..."
"Saggitarian?"
He looks at me  "How'd you know?!"

I'll drive. Hope it's stick. Get to burn rubber in at least 3 gears with stick. Seatbelts are a must when you ride with me. All the same, I'll plant ya firmly in your seats. :D

BTW, Chyk - I don't like McD's. I'm a Wendy's kind of gal. And that means frosties. So you're holding. ;) That's what you get for saying that about Chicago. :D

Actually, I just went to see EW&F mostly. Incredible artists. Oh, the horn section is killer. I especially love the song September. Just gotta groove when I hear it. Yup, in public too. Hey, don't look at me like that. I've got rhythm. :D

Oh, anyway, it's almost 2 am here so I'm gone. (Thanks Kit! I really appreciate you know what. ;))

Go to bed Chyk. It's a school night.

X.

Take care and have a good night. It's midnight here, but since I've been up since 6, I'm going to bed.
Take care, all.

A co worker is selling gold seats for the Robbie concert..(do you guys know robbie williams?? Songs like "Rock Dj", " Angels", "Kids" "strong" etc) but they're $120 each  ...I saw robbie with Duran duran in 2000(?) and would like to see him again...

I'm still rather annoyed at Andy T leaving DD again...Just as long as roger doesn't leave we're ok. Ahhh...roger...not as cute as roger T from queen(wayyyy back in the early days of queen when he had beautiful long hair, nice behind and such a cute smile...Is it getting hot..*waves hand*)

What's the best concert you've ever been to???

Hey can you guys text overseas? Text me, I promise safe text.

Lise - glad you had fun with your mom. My subtle changes on match has caused a stir - I'll keep you posted....Project FROG update: IL guy (who lives in WI btw) left me a message last night. He's supposed to call today. My friend S. (who I'd love to be more than friends with), called and we chated last night. And a 47 yo Italian guy from Madison wants to talk to me and emailed me his phone number. I'm such a chicken sh*t. I need to just call and chat with him right?
Dar Yay for the new profile! How'd the rest of the weekend go?

OK cliff's notes TD:

2. Lise's dating life is ALL IMPORTANT.
Only to me, Kit, only to me. And those who chose to experience the thrills and chills vicariously through me. Anyone else, feel free to continue to ignore!

I had a wonderful weekend with J. My sister did a great job with her lecture at the Humanities Festival! I am so proud of her. J. came with me, met my mom, sister, and BIL, and everybody liked each other. It's so good to bring happiness to my family. Hard to leave him to come to work tonight.

It's 4:56 AM here in labor and delivery, another little person on the planet, born at 3:53. Paperwork done, now I'm going to go see my other laboring lady. I will admit, I skimmed this weekend's TD! Greetings to all. :D L.

Finally caught up.

Snap, this is how you write "heart" in IM language: <3

If you want to _say_ that, it's "I less than three Choco!" I learned that on a Podcast.

IM FL was long...and cold...I saw Momelisa finish in her skirt. That was very creative. BF swam faster, biked slower (wind was horrible) got a chiro adjustment in T2 (add 10 minutes!), and ran a lot faster (than last year) for a grand total of something like 13:43. He was hoping for sub 13, but that didn't happen. I got to taste two $150 bottles of cab, (vertical tasting Hundred Acre- 2000 and 2001, had to stop before I got to 2002) which I thought I hated, but apparently had just not had expensive enough stuff. OMG!!!!!!!! 26 people quit during the swim, and I think five didn't make the swim cut off. A guy may or may not have died during the swim, and another got hit by a car. The double lung transplant guy finished this year on his third attempt. The blind guy also finished. I think I saw him last year, too. He rides a Guru tandem! All the other people I was there with finished- most had done an IM before, one was on his first time, and he was 11 something! The field was 48% first-timers.

Two days till Inez! Going to go shopping for her additional furnishings today, and try to renew my plate, which can't be renewed on line because it's personalized (PID GIN) and the website will only take a numerical PIN, and mine is alphabetical. Nice.

So I only have to work Tuesday and Thursday this week, Friday is a holiday and I am driving to Cape Coral for a 200k Saturday.

I got home last night, and had to check on all the new pets. Mr. Toad was very happy to get a fresh bowl of water to soak in. The anoles were pale grey when I turned the light on, then two turned dark brown and one turned bright green when I gave them fresh water. They still had crickets left. Choco and Maizey came out for petting. Milly had knocked over his food container (which has a hole he sticks his head through, so if it's tipped over, he's out of luck- but I had taped it to the wall of his cage, and had someone check on him Saturday since I was afraid he'd do that- it's his new thing...) Torts and frog and Addy were sleeping.

I bought Gatorskins for Lava today. I first had Bontrager Race Lights, which were perfect for several thousand miles, then got Michelin something or other race, which looked shoddy from the beginning and have a ton of slits and nicks in since April, so I won't be buying those again. With 650's you don't get a lot of selection.

I found the final elements of October SSs gift while at IM FL. I had forgotten about the stationary part, or would have been done weeks ago. I am not sure even what the theme for November is. Holiday/bike gadgets???

Guess I'd better go get ready to stand in line at DMV for hours...

crazycanuck - I love Queen. May dear Freddie RIP. There will never be another voice like that. I never got to see them in concert, sadly. I hear their concerts were legendary. Not the same now.

Is it just me or did any of you experience needing less sleep when you started biking and getting back into shape? Before riding, etc I was still struggling with as much as 6-7 hrs of sleep. Now, I have all kinds of energy and prefer to sleep about 6 hours. Maybe it's cuz I regularly sleep 6 now instead of 4 hrs all week and 7 on the w/e. Just curious.

Uh, gotta go to work soon. Have a great vacation coming up to pay for. :D  :D I can't wait for spring!!

What's the best concert you've ever been to???

Unfortuantely I never got to see anyone too cool as the cools ones never came to Augusta, but my two most favs were the 'Scorps on my 16th bday at the Omni in Hotlanta (BonJovi opened with their Runaway debut); and Tom Petty at the Lakewood Ampitheater also in Hotlanta........

Worst concert I will admit to would be Quit Riot.... told you I had issues.

Nanci, welcome back! Glad BF finished strong. Sounds like lousy conditions. Looking forward to Inez pix! Remind me about Mr. Toad. At one point I thought he was for a snake to eat, but now I'm thinking you rub the pinkies all over him to make them smell toad-ish?

CWR, I love your avatar more every day. Those bears have quite a dance going on.

I'm pooped. Going home, going to bed. What It Takes, the DVD, shipped on Sat! I should have it soon! :D

I saw Tom Petty in concert in the mid 80s--he was great. I saw U2 three times on their last tour through the US. Love those guys. 'specially the Edge. :p

X, Chyk, do you EVER sleep?!
DGF got me in the habit of >7 hrs b/c she feels like she needs close to 10 hrs/night. I admit I don't get sick as often, but I feel a little 'slower' when I sleep over 8 hrs. How is that?! Trying to break myself of the habit before I start having to commute to work. I don't *need* rough mornings then.

Best concerts:
Orgy/Godhead
Kan'Nal (gotta say it, I met DGF there!)
Not sure if the Cirque de Soleil counts because it was both live music and stage performance but it was *good*. Delerium's music is just wild.
Trapped in a Minivan (amazing show. Good vocals/music/etc, and the frontman was 15!)
Oh, and the Boston Docks Oister Boys

The rest I don't remember much of b/c they were mostly just local punk concerts with moshing etc which was fun but not conducive to actually knowing the bands' names.

Well, I finally found out why all the ladies have been raving about Scharffen Berger chocolate! I actually found some here in Podunk, Idaho (at the co-op, no less). WOW! I picked up a Nibby Bar and a Semi-sweet; the semi is good. (I also found and purchased a bar of Green and Black's Maya Gold). No, I am not on a chocolate kick lately...not at all.

Hmm, best concert...so far it has been Rush, both times. But Styx comes close. Going to see Trans Siberian Orchestra next month.
