Mimi- did you ever try, when cutting onions, sticking a small slice on the top of your head- then they don't make you cry? Works for me!

I can also smell stuff in my pee- onions, coffee, asparagus- anything strong flavored.

My mom never let me do anything! No cooking, no laundry, no dish washing...I got to pick up apples in the yard for 10 cents, and mow the yard, starting in sixth grade, for $1.

No, i never put onions on my head, then my hair would smell. I don't mind my eyes tearing up a little...
I am the same way, i can smell all sorts of stuff. Heck, I can smell when my husband isn't drinking enough water on a bike ride because his urine is too strong!
I am well endowed with nose. I have never had a cold that took away my sense of smell. ever. (and i have had some riproaring colds!)

your mom never LET you do anything? what a strange concept!!

We share a hill (sloping north) with our neighbor to the north. Most of it is on our property line. People tend to be pretty chainsaw-happy due to the lake views.

About two weeks ago I noticed some surveying of the north property line. We ignored it (shouldn't have) and subsequently listened to chainsaws and grading equipment all weekend. So neighbor didn't keep her word to notify us of future plans. Problem is the this hill is sensitive watershed area that is also maintaining the integrity of our east slope. We talk to fiance of owner who (silly him) is initially dismissive of us ("what do you GIRLS want, I'm paying these guys $20 an hour"...). I ask questions with the words permit, licensed contractor, site survey in them. The dufus gets sheepish and admits that the only "expert" opinion came from a landscaping company. Also lies about trees cut.

So the hill is getting chopped at the bottom. Rainy season is upon us. I call the city who will inspect tomorrow. No permit, no site eval, no consideration.

Thanks for letting me ven.....Quill

Sorry about the hill, Quill. I had some major beaver destruction at my old place- no way to make them stop!!

I am so smart! SMRT!

I bought BF's Christmas present today. There's this (giant, super-fancy, has everything) health club that he has been pining away for for the last four years. He can't afford it. No other HC measures up. This is the one that _all_ his coworkers and all our friends belong to. I have no interest in HCs. I'm just not into it. But I thought I would stop and ask questions at lunch, since my employer is doing open enrollment right now, and that's one of the things you can sign up for. Oops, you have to be married to have a family membership. I am so disappointed. But wait- I can buy him a gift membership, and don't even have to waste money on a membership for me! I can get it payroll deducted bimonthly, costing roughly one hour of pay per check. After two years, the annual cost decreases by 1/3! They can never raise the rate.

I am so excited I am giving it to him when he gets home. I could have waited till Christmas, but what if he needs the pool, or the ice pool, or whatever before/after IM FL.

Mimi- I'd be so happy when I'd eat dinner at a friend's, and "get to" wash the dishes! Maybe she was like me, just wanted things done her way, and the easiest way to accomplish that is do it yourself.

i found out that my dad is now back at home. no more hospitals or meds. seems that his alzheimer's meds were giving him hallucinations and the other meds were giving him problems with his memory. go figure.

so he's off drugs and at home. seems to make sense 99% of the time. though while my stepmum is at school teaching he is at a day care center, but is able to spend the rest of the time at home with her.

Nanci, you are smart! Yay! I'm sure BF will be thrilled. I can't belive your mom wouldn't let you do chores. My mom wouldn't let me not do chores! Good news is that I knew how to do it all comfortably when I was on my own. You seem to have picked up plenty of useful skills along the way. How's baby Roy's foot doing?

I receieved two bras today. One from Title Nine (It is Moving Comfort's Maia Bra):http://www.titlenine.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=55&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=MOVING+COMFORT
The other is from TE (CW-X Firm Support) http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=22526

I think they may both need to be returned. :( The first one is very comfortable and supportive, but their 36C Maia is larger than my other Moving Comfort Bra ( Cara bra) and if I continue to run (and I defintitely plan to), my bra size will go down. I will probably need to return this one and give up with Title Nine as this model does not come in a 36B, I suppose I could try a 34C? Any thoughts?

Okay, next bra. I was very excited for the Firm Support CW-X. Holy cow! I almost got stuck putting it on. It definitely mashes the girls. If I choose to keep it I could go down a size or two in shirts. I prefer the Sport model and will most likely exchange this one for the Sport model.

Time to put the finishing touches on dinner. I will be back. :)

Salsa, you should see the research on pigeon visual perception.

From Wikepedia:

In a famous article in 1995, Watanabe, Sakamoto and Wakita described an experiment which showed that pigeons can be trained to discriminate between paintings by Picasso and Monet.

The birds were first trained on a limited set of paintings: when the shown painting was a Picasso, the pigeon was able to obtain food by repeated pecking; when it was a Monet, pecking had no effect. After a while, the pigeons would only peck when shown Picasso paintings. They were then able to generalize, and correctly discriminate between paintings of the two painters not previously shown, and even between cubist and impressionist paintings (cubism and impressionism being the two stylistic schools Picasso and Monet belong to). When the Monet paintings were shown upside down, the pigeons were not able to properly categorize anymore; showing the cubist works upside down did not have such an effect.

In 1995, the authors won the humorous Ig Nobel Prize in psychology for this work.

In a later paper, Watanabe showed that if pigeons and human college students undergo the same training, their performance in distinguishing between Van Gogh and Chagall paintings is comparable.

Similar experiments had shown earlier that pigeons can be trained to distinguish between photos showing human beings and those that do not, and between photos showing trees and those that do not, among many other examples.

In all these cases, discrimination is quite easy for humans, even though the classes are so complex that no simple distinguishing algorithm or rule can be specified. It has therefore been argued that pigeons are able to form "concepts" or "categories" similar to humans, but that interpretation is controversial. Nevertheless, the experiments remain important and often cited examples in cognitive science.

Fabulous! I love it.

A question ------- if you are days behind in TE ---------- which equals many, many pages----------- how do you all remember what's been written and respond to the many and varied posts?? Do you take notes as you're reading through?

Tonight I discovered it's not a good idea to work on your bike AFTER two glasses of wine.

Oldest son is moving to TN. in two days. He's always been a ~challenging~ child. I will miss him immensely yet, in many ways, am happy to see him go. He has lived away before then came back home. He's 28! Time to let go. Am I a "bad" mom for being glad he's moving on?

Weird candle experience! I have tons of candles that people have given as gifts. Don't burn them often enough. I lit a lovely, vanilla/cinnamon scented one tonight, have burned it previously. And noticed, in the melted wax surrounding the wick, a dead fly. Yuck! I did not notice the fly when I last lit the candle. But it was buried in the wax so was obviously interred there when the candle was last lit. Strange.

What you need to know about the shuttle is it is extremely weather dependent. Not to mention they always find little problems at the last minute. So a launch date is VERY likely to be rescheduled, to the next day or two if you are lucky, or further out if not. That's how I got to see it launch during a 200k- it got delayed by weather till the day I rode. It was awesome.

I swore to myself I'd stop airing dirty laundry on TD. But, here I go again.

"Someone" sent a card and presents for SKnot and I. I was doing real peachy until I got the mail last night. Now I'm coming apart at the seams. None of that fabulous feeling from Sunday is left! All gone! Poof!

Maybe returning the presents, along with a 2nd copy of "the letter" would send the correct message? Sorry for what you're going through, Knot. You can be strong.

Lise- Making out???? I need more details about the date-keep it clean. ;)

Fredwina- Definitely check out the Jeeves and Wooster series. Hughie Laurie (Wooster) and Stephen Fry (Jeeves) are hysterical and they were both in Black Adder. :)

Quill-I am sorry to hear about the trees. I would be sad without all my trees.

Nanci-I am not a gym person, but I think your gift is quite clever and will be greatly appreciated by your BF. Did you give him his gift yet?
It sounds as though Roy is doing much better. Keep us updated.

CWR- Great news about your father. I am ever so glad he is home and the meds are straightened out. You have fresh fruit-YIPPEE!! :D

Snap-um, congrats on the promotion? It is a good thing, right?

Knot-I am a little concerned about you and your lentils, and your spam. :p Although your plot to dominate the board is an interesting one.
Send the gifts back! Okay, my issues come in here, but people cannot buy love. ARGH!

Annie-you are a good mom. Your 28 year old needs to be independent. The fly in your candle is gross.

Kit-when is the interview? I am thinking wonderful interview thoughts for you.

An update on my endless sport bra saga. The constrictive bra has been sent back to TE and I should be recieivng the sport version. The Moving Comfort, I am too huge Maia bra, has been sent back and I ordered from a different company, Moving Comfort's Melbourne bra. Wish me luck with this next installment of sport bras.

I am not Knot, obviously, but I have an all time favourite crock pot cookbook. There has not been one bad recipe yet. The entire family loves the meals (huge feat in itself) and the prep time is usually 15 minutes. I use my crockpot all winter long.

Ahh! Sunday packed the U-haul truck (just barely made it with all the household goods into the medium sized truck, it was PACKED FULL!) drove to Tucson, got there around 7:30 p.m. dropped the truck off at the storage area; and had a nice late Mediterranean dinner with my sister and Bro in law.

Got up the next morning, unloaded the truck into the storage unit; after some juggling of units due to a mistake in what unit they reserved for us (Yes, moving with Uhaul is an Adventure!) Went with my sister to take a look at the house my parents are buying. It is nice, a little older than I would have purchased for them being that there is quite a bit of work that needs to be done, but it still is nice, it has an awesome backyard with a great view of the Catalina Mountains, nice desert plantings and a waterfall. The back of the house also overlooks a great big wash where they can't build anything so it is very private and quiet. I'm sure my folks will like it once they get settled.

Drove back home got home around 5:30 p.m. Had dinner with my folks who were staying at my house in Flag, then they left this morning to stay with my sister in Tucson till they can get into their new house; and I'm back at work trying to get caught up.

Now, maybe I can get back into a routine. Always have a hard time in the fall. Got to go start my swimming lessons, riding my trainer, etc. We have a hike in the grand canyon planned for November 10th, 11th so that will be fun! I'm finally doing my yoga and core exercises on a regular basis so I guess I'm on my way again!

Tonight I think is a good night for chile - maybe some chicken chile with green hatch peppers, some jalapenos and white beans! MMm MMM It's good to be home

KY- I resisted all unasked for gifts from SOTHTG (SO that had to go) until he sent a BIRD. I named it Cookie, though, after my new BF!

But the bird was a total PITA.

1st off- as soon as I get water proof/resistant gloves, (probably even before) I'm going to be COMMUTING! A 11 mile (est. from bycycle.org) or 22mi round trip ride, with a whopping entire *mile* on a trail. :)

The job is administrative assistant and later, licensed "partner" for a financial advisor. I'm excited. The hours mean I won't really see DGF much anymore, but I'll be making a little more/hr and able to bike... I'll have more 'normal' hours so I can see my friends and do athletic stuff on weekends like normal people do... Oh! and I'll have holidays off (whereas with this job, I was scheduled for all of them. =P)

Kit, I'm happy for you with the new job.

Looks like I'm in for a major job shift. Got told today there will be no overhead for anyone next year (the company's having lean times) and when my major contracts ends Jan 21, I'll be working part time (like 35%) on my one remaining contract. I'm trying to decide if this is a sucky situation or an opportunity. I've been with this company doing the same thing for 23 years and feeling kind of stale. Haven't been writing proposals or looking for new opportunities like I should. I could end up back at 3/4 time by the middle of next summer if some new work we're expecting comes in, or I could fullfill my current contract (which ends 4/09) with part time work and be done with science. This could be my chance to become a bike mechanic again. I've been dreaming of that, and TE has help me get somewhat more up-to-date on bike stuff (even if I do slip and say freewheel instead of cassette, SK). Probably have to wait until spring to land a mechanic job.

Decisions. Decisions. Science. Mechanics. Go hiking for a few months. Take a bike tour. Be a bum. Worry about retirement. AAAAhhhhh. Brain overload.

Kitsune06 "it'd probably be best and most grown-up to just return them."

and a woman manager too? Good for you!!

Knotted - ***In my best Bronx accent*** Hey, you want I should come over there and kick her axx? :D
You know she only does these things because she knows very well how to rattle you and yank your chain. She totally expects you to fall apart and welcome her back, which of course your not going to do dear. It's bad for you and bad for SKnot to see you do that again. You already know what to do to finish this once and for all. Be tough!! And then go out and live life on your terms.
BTW, I say use the SPAM for evil. But, just once.

MP and BMo3 - Yep, the Fix-It-And-Forget-It Cookbook is great. That's the one I would suggest. It was given to me by a dear friend when I went back to school because I just wasn't eating properly. Lack of time ("15 hr work + 4 hr studying" days = no time for cooking or sleeping) was the culprit. Most of the recipes taste great.

Snap - Congrats too, I guess?

Yesterday I had a wonderfully fulfilling day at work. Met an incredible kid with Cerebral Palsy and had a great time talking to him while doing his x-rays. Fast friends. Before I got him back to the ER, I asked if I could have him as my honoree at my CP metric century ride on Saturday. I promised to print a pic of me wearing his name on my jersey and send it to him. Floored him. I got a hug and a kiss right in front of the ER nurses.
Today, I had an unusually bad work day. :( I'm a little depressed over it so I think I'll just stop there. Tomorrow's another day!

Good health and much happiness to you all! (sorry to those I missed.)

The Saran wrap haiku:

When your ex becomes

Saran wrap becomes a

Shaving cream under
invisible plastic wrap
eats paint once so clean
large spots then stand nude.

Plain wrap also is

Xrayted, how would you use SPAM for evil?

I've applied for a transfer to another dept of Mega Telco (actually I've applied for just about ANYWHERE BUT WHERE I AM) but particularly want one office.

My friend E works there, actually many friends are there and that's part of the wish is it would be like old home week with some very good people.

Anyway E''s Pagan so in jest I asked her isn't there some kind of spell she could cast on several annoying co-workers so they would leave and **poof** there's be an opening for me.

She said she can't do that, she can't wish them any harm but what she can do is a ceremony that they would be happier elsewhere :)

Without mentioning to the universe of course that we allllllll would be happier if they were elsewhere. :)

Can one do that with SPAM?

"And here's your lovely parting gift, eat this"

Kit....you didn't  you saran wrapped a car?

Kitsune06
10-24-2006, 07:20 PM
Trek- I plead the 5th on the car thing.

Spam used for Evil (as if food with SPAM in it isn't evil enough)-
If you *really* don't like someone and have about 5 minutes alone in their office, take SPAM or (if you're REALLY bad) regular lunch meat. Put it in an open lunch baggie so it retains most of its moisture, but still can 'breathe'. Most office chairs are put together in a way that leaves a small opening in the bottom, either in the spacers or in the base. (How do I know? I built them for almost a year. =P) Insert meat into hole.
Days 1 and 2 aren't so bad.
3 and 4 are icky.
Past day 6 the meat generally mummifies, and there's no smell (or a weak one)

Use gloves, no fingerprints.
How do I know this?
um... I also plead the 5th on this. :p

Also- there's always getting someone's email address, then going to every single religious site (or whatever topic would irk them most) and subscribe to their mailing list... regular mail works too, but email addresses kill fewer trees. (Spam used for evil pt. II)

Trek420
10-24-2006, 07:27 PM
Different kind of SPAM....if you really don't like someone ....

You know those response cards that fall out of the magazine allowing you to request free information via mail, phone and or e-mail from all of the magazines advertisers?

Get one, pepper it with miscelaneous requests for responses to person of your choice's address, e-mail .... of course you would not give them the persons phone number because that would be evil bwahhaha.

There's no return address to you, just pop it in the mail.

no i haven't tried that but that was passed on to me too. don't usually drink much coffee unless its one of those mornings. though i'm crashing this afternoon so i'm thinking it would be good. to bad our coffee pot broke here and my new one i ordered hasn't come in yet.

The sport bra I ordered from runningwarehouse arrived today and it is a keeper. For any of you interested, Moving Comfort's Melbourne Bra is wonderful. It controls bounce (I am a 36 B/C and it is perfect), no bounce, I did not need to almost dislocate a shoulder to get into the bra, and I can still breathe.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring another winner, CW-X's Sport Bra from TE.

You know, BMo3, you are getting to be the local bra expert. I want one that
gives support, does not have metal parts and that you really can't feel.
i'm close to the same size as you but no C, just B. But i'm 54 and well, let's just say that when you get to be my age endowment really means bother.

OK, this is one HECK of a deluxe problem, but this is what I'm bumming about at the moment. New BF, all around wonderful guy, J, sent me an email inviting me to go to PARIS for a week, starting New Year's Eve. Can you even believe it? And there is no way I can go. I have 5 work shifts that week. Everybody requests that time off; there are more midwives gone than midwives working. I could not get coverage for all of that. I am sad. :( Mostly sad to have to tell him "no"...but I could go for Valentine's day... Sigh.

Actually rode my bike today. It was the dreaded "street cleaning day" in the neighborhood in which I work. You can look for a spot for 1/2 hr, and end up parked over a mile away. Since I only live 3.12 miles away, I bundled up and rode the Larkspur. Felt great to be riding.

I took this one for a test run and a yoga run . This sport bra gets an A+. It was $28.95. The shipping is free, they provide the materials and prepaid sticker for exchanges, check it out: http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpageWRA-MCMB.html

Hey, Knot while you're stomping around, come on over here and have a run at my lumbar region. Ya know, like Mr. Bentley used to do to George Jefferson. I gotta a crick that just won't go away all day. Right at about L3-4. I've tried stretching it out, but nada. Too much OR time makes Cindy an invalid. (you stand in one place for hours sometimes)

All right, guess I'll go grab a glass of milk, some of the choc. chip cookies I made last night, and head out to the hot tub instead. (Some kinda PT you are... won't even fly over here for a house call. :D )

Child's Pose! If the hot-tub doesn't fix it, try Child's Pose. It's a yoga move that sometimes gets the lats and QL to loosen up enough that the lumbar critters can move again.

Get down on your knees, and sit on your heels.
(bilateral hip adduction to midline, full bilateral ankle plantarflexion, full bilateral knee flexion, 90 degree bilateral hip flexion, ischial tubs contacting calcaneii)

Bend forward at your hips until chest is on thighs and hands are way out front on the floor.
(full hip flexion, full shoulder flexion, forearm pronation)

Hold 30 seconds.

Walk hands way over to the left.
(left lateral lumbar and thoracic flexion)

Hold 30 seconds.

Walk hands way over to the right.
(right lateral lumbar and thoracic flexion)

Hold 30 seconds.

Or you can try double knee to chest (lie on back, hug knees, hold 30 seconds, do 3 times) Or knee sways (hooklying, let knees fall to left, then fall to right for lumbar rotation 20 times).

And next time you're standing in the OR for hours, unlock your knees! Stop hangin' on those "Y" ligaments and use your transversus abdominus instead! (how are your hamstrings?)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! That was nice.

Unfortunately, the hot tub gods exacted a heavy price for the dip. One cookie. Fell right out of my hand. Only a 1/2 a glass of wine, I swear! Geez, I've gotta be the cheapest... Of course, I couldn't get it with my foot so I ended up cave diving. Now I've got a soaked head right before bed! I'm all toasty and loose(r) tho. Shame about the cookie. It had a real future.

Thanks Knotted! I'll try those in the morning if it's still bugging. Can't plantarflex too far on the left and no go with resting the ischial tuberosity on the calcaneal tuberosity. VERY touchy back there. (the heel, not the butt) Can I just rest my bottom on the floor between my ankles if I can get the flex?
Also, how about Pilates back extensions? As for the hams, they aren't too bad now that I pay attention to stretching them out. I also do quadricep, gluteal, and hip flexor stretches. Any other ideas, feel free to speak up. (anyone)

g'night TD

Nanci
(B) Romantic Idea. The Paris trip is because he wants to go to Paris with me. He says he's been feeling like he wants to go back to Paris for some time. He was so sweet when I said "there's no way I can go that week." I half expected (because I've gotten this from others in the past) to hear, "can't you trade with somebody, blah, blah, wah, wah..." Nope. He said, "I accept your schedule for what it is. That was the first opportunity I could think of. I'm just glad you want to travel with me!" It's so early in the relationship that I'm not even worried about what I think you mean about what men like to do on big fancy trips...unless you're thinking of something other than "propose to you". :p

So we'll look at other dates. And even other locales. I mean, Paris is Paris, but in January, it's also...cold. I can still put in requests for the rest of January, just not that holiday week.

I so enjoy spending time with this guy. What a revelation. :D He's going to meet my mom and sister on 11/5, when my sister's speaking at the U of C Humanities Festival (I'm impressed!). Then he and his 16 year old daughter (who lives in another state with her mom) will join my family for Thanksgiving. I was stressing a bit about meeting the daughter, and one of my co-workers said, "You deal with 16 year olds all the time." Yeah, but they're my patients, not...you know...my guy's little girl!

Had a good night here at the baby factory--slept for three hours, got up, then got to sleep again for 2.5 hours! Now up for the day. Off at 10 AM. Must go to laundromat today. The washer and dryer in our building are both dead and won't be replaced until Monday, and my dishwasher won't drain. Handyman no-showed yesterday. Argh. Since I did get some sleep, I'm going to bundle up all the dirty laundry and just get it done.

Later, TD!

Fun thing though...I found this cage looking thingy pushed off in the corner at the gym, upon closer inspection I found it to be a "stretching cage"!! You never cease to amuse me Trek.
Actually, I had a 2004 Chardonnay by Virgin (of all names) from Cali. It's been hanging up there for a while, patiently waiting. Idon't believe I bought that, it must have been a gift. I liked it, tho. Not sure it normally goes with cookie but last night it would have gone with anything.
I have to say, it must have been the 1/2 glass of wine that caused the cookie mishap. Normally, you couldn't pry one out of my grip. (I actually am that cheap... **shakes head in disgust**)
Somewhat made up for my dietary slip(s) yesterday by getting on the trainer for an hour on my off day. (ride every other) Not feeling the guilt so much now. Guilt is destructive.

Glad that the Paris trip was for romantic purposes only, Lise. :) Sounds like a keeper. If anyone asked me to go to Paris, I'd be out the door. (I'll be right there, just give me 30 minutes to pack a little something.) I've never been to Europe and I have so many places I want to see.
Actually, the best pic I've had taken recently was my passport photo for my professional certification. Sad, but absolutely true. I'd love to get copies and make x-mas cards out of it. (Hey honey, check out this card. Is that Cindy? Wow, she never looks that good. :D )

Have a spectacular day ladies.

Felt so rotten yesterday because of bad sleep, kept nodding off in important meetings with my union and our health care providers.

In between meetings I was on the floor doing some stretches (not child's pose)
and some guy walked in. I wonder what he thought i was doing down there...

I found a parking lot (behind the union office) with a great hill! I want to go back there on a saturday when there are no cars and try riding my bike up and down that little hill.

Then I had my italian club meeting last night and I KNEW I was going to die ... 2 more hours of sitting.. So I took out the trusty 26 pound Veloce (thanks to TE, I weighed it last night) and rode to the meeting in the almost rain.. so at least i didn't have total loss day.

Gee, Lise, PARIS?? Is that exotic, romantic, amazing? This guy has some $$?
what does he do for a living? I'm going to Italy in November, you can go to Paris in January. You just bring lots of warm underwear!

my secret sister gave me chocolate. And it's all gone!
(it must have been defective to disappear that fast!)

Knotted, i will do that exercise tonight. Sounds quite nice really. my deal is when i get into bed without doing any yoga stuff, the small of my back yells at me. And when i'm really really tired, it's hard to NOT do that.

Momof 3 maybe i oughto get one of those bras.. So it's not going to feel like a straightjacket with seams that cut into me? I hate bras SO MUCH.

Nanci
10-26-2006, 06:27 AM
Dessert wine....mmm....What kind? I am the WORST dessert wine hoarder. Luckily it ages well. I just finished off a (half) bottle of Muscat (Hardys) from Australia that I had open for two months! It was just too rich for me to drink more than a 2 oz glass at a time. And I'm a _good_ dessert wine drinker! My current fav is Bonny Doon Viognier Doux. (Bonny Doon Framboise is also amazing, and I also love Bonny Doon Muscat Vin de Glacier.) Plus I have a bunch of other weird stuff, like Zinfandel ice wine, and a Riesling ice wine from 1998.

Lise- I don't know...I have a friend at work, radiologist, who God knows why she's even single, but she was dating guys from Match.com, and they were all pretty nice (how'd she manage that???) but just not quite right. So she met this guy, maybe 35-40, financial something or other, last winter, and they went to Hawaii in September, and we're all teasing her- and yes, he did ask her to marry him on that trip. I think older guys, sometimes, know a good thing when they see it. Sometimes. If they are't big puXXies.

I made Choco musk me by kissing him too much...I think he thought I was going to eat him. Poor little guy! I really love that snake.

I am trying to figure out how to brumate Fagalo outside. I think it will be way healthier for him. I think I have to make him a big pile of earth/peat covered by leaves, withhold food two weeks, soak him daily, and see what happens. I don't think it's cold enough yet, though. BF says he will never forgive me if I kill Fagalo by brumating him. I tried to explain that it is necessary for resetting all his hormones and stuff.

Lise - I love Paris in the Springtime...... just a thought.... So glad it is working out well. Sigh!!

CWR - were you asking about Carboom the energy gel stuff? I used that a lot before I discovered banana Hammer gel. I really like them. Not super icky give you a huge rush sweet. More a steady sort of energy. They have an apple cinnamon sort of one that's good. And a peachy banana. All fairly natural, too. If you were talking about something more interesting than gels, ignore me... :D

Didn't Power Gel used to make Key Lime? I liked that. I think they stopped.

Good Afternoon Ladies!

CWR- I did indeed try one of the Carb Boom gels. The Cinnamon Apple to be exact. Yum!

Knot-I absolutely adore Child's pose. I could fall asleep in that position. After every run, my final cool down is 30 minutes of yoga. Ah, Bliss.

Lise-J sounds like a wonderful man and he is willing to attend a family holiday. WOW! I hope you both are able to find time to got of Paris. Personally, I loved Finland in January. Very nice, very romantic.

Xrayted- I am very glad you did not drown. Sorry to hear the cookie was not as fortunate. Ah Christmas cards. I like the idea of using your passport photo. I wonder if I could send one of my MRI photos...

Mimi- I do so hope your day is better than yesterday. The bra is great. For under $30 free shipping and free return if you dislike it, I say give it a try. I do not like bras either, but this one did not feel as though I was wearing anything. Oh a word on this one. I bought white. Do not wear it by itself if you sweat. When wet, it is very see through.

Nanci- Poor Choco, thinking you were going to eat him. He must have been terrified. You need to talk with him and explain how adorable he is. Has Fagalo ever spent the winter outside? Sounds like a lot of work and trial and error? I have no idea, but I wish you both the best and keep us updated. I am finding a new appreciation for different species by reading your posts.

I think that is everything for now. I am planning to read today. I was going to finish knitting my sweater, but I am in the mood to read. I have exercised, showered, the laundry is almost done, and the house looks as good as it is going to get. I refuse to go into the rooms my children inhabit. They will be cleaning those this weekend. Hopefully the rain will taper off for my run this evening.

Hey BMo3
I bought red, which is back ordered. I would never order white, and i'll tell you why. recently i was on a ride and had to take off my under layer because i was so hot. if i was wearing a white bra, i would not have had the nerve to strip down to it in public. instead i had my red and black straightjacket bra on so i felt quite sporty and stripped without feeling nekkid at all.

With feral cats, one must learn to interact with them so they don't feel like you're trying to eat them. When they finally start acting like kittens around you, it is a great day indeed. (and mine are finally doing that)

I haven't eaten a lot of those flavored things. DH buys all sorts of stuff for his 100 mile rides. He's going to AZ to do a 100 km ride with some folks he met on Bike Journal.

I am having a better day. A little sleep goes A LONG way.

More proof that Kitsune has fallen thru a hole in the fabric of the space/time continuum.
Think of the physics - the heat generated by the friction of a "mass" falling thru such a stellar phenomenon . Then multiply by the Kitsune factor (named after guess who?) squared (because it is not just a "mass" but no less than Kitsune *herself*)

we got together for lunch then, she looked great (just no hair) and she said not to be sad for her, she'd had a good life, great kids, and a great GF if she wins this fight that's gravy and if not don't be sad for her....

I've done more rides since then I never forgot about her

but J never returns e-mail, she never writes she's always been bad about that so I literaly did not know if she's alive ... or not....I send e-mails to her she doesn't respond that's just her.

till today!! she called, sounded good, we didn't talk about how she is I'll try to call, just know that she's alive...

Sad story, Trek. I am glad she resurfaced though. we went through the same thing when my stepfather's sister wrote from Poland that she had incurable cancer. We all rememberd her from her recent visit, so much alive, witty, rosy cheeked... Then this letter comes and we all know she's never coming back here. It's very very hard.

hey, here in Seattle we have some NASTY weather. Lots of clouds, sharp winds... the summer feeling is Gone gone gone. Is it going to rain?

mimitabby & cwr, what is good is having heard from her now I'm trying to put her together with some others of "that old gang of mine".

J and her GF broke up also so sure she could use some cheering up or some such.

here in the Bay we have gorgeous weather but where's the daylight???

kit, congrats on the job - I know I am a few pages late, but as usual I am behind on TD.

Lise, j is just sounding more and more awesome - that Paris idea of his - wow - and the way he handled your saying not during that week.

Weather here in Chicago is awful - rainy and cold. I would rather the temp just drop another 10 degrees and then it could snow. I was playing paddle tennis this afternoon and it was miserable. I was wet inside my rain gear from sweating so much and outside my raingear from the rain.

BMo3 - glad to hear you have found the right bra. i just got the cw-x firm support and wow, I hear you on the shoulder dislocation problem. But these 36Ds need the support.

Brina's right about the weather. Yesterday I was lucky to catch some dry weather for riding to and from work.

Yep, J. is something else. He's an IT project manager, not rich, but hey, if the man has a way to go to Paris, let's go! :D So looking forward to seeing him tomorrow.

So tired. Usually I'll throw some clothes in the laundry and go take a nap on a Thursday, but washer and dryer were both out of commission, so I went to the laundromat. It's efficient, but I have to stay awake the whole time! What's up with that?!? Dishwasher also on the fritz. Argh. Minor problems. Going to bed now. Sleep tight, TD!

Just got back from shopping for goodies for this Saturday's Bike Academy Grad Ride. I know I am missing something, here's what I bought for the SAG stops

Water
Mini Bagels and Peanut butter
Circus Animal Cookies
Trail Mix
Hot Cocoa mix

I still need to get Bananas and probably some oranges.

Anything else?

Trek - glad to hear you found your friend again. She's still here and that says a lot after going through stage 4 breast CA. Hope she is well and will continue to be so for a long time.
Kitsune - and what's the matter with her wanting to be warm? I get cold easy too and dress the same way in the winter. Besides, it's like getting to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop. The thicker the layering, the more time you have to enjoy getting to the chewy center. :D
Knotted - tried the child's pose tonight after work. Very nice. Stretched out some muscles that I didn't realize I still had. Really stretched me out from ** goes digging in the brain archives** the trapezius, through the lats and into the erectors. Got a yank on the glutes too. Put a twist on it and caught the external obliques deeper in. Course, my knees have stopped functioning now. (Don't think the left one will ever totally straighten out again. :o) It was a little rough on the ankle too. It doesn't like to plantar flex much. Or dorsiflex past 90 for that matter. I already do the other move and it's very relaxing. Any other ones I can use on the lower thoracic and lumbar region with less trauma to my ankle?
mimi - hope you get some sleep. Honestly tho, even with a full 8 hours, meetings just get me bobbing and weaving. And forget it if they turn down the lights for a Power Point presentation. Gone, sister, gone.
Nanci - please explain musking. I think I have a clue but I don't want to misinterpret.
BMo3 - so glad you're still getting out for your runs since it's so cold these days. I'm a weather weenie and have been on the trainer for a week now. Not nearly as interesting but better than a gym. Get to surf TE while riding. Yea!
Lise - any new canoodling reports? I'm having a dry spell and need to know someone is kissing somebody somewhere. :D

Thanks everybody for the cookie retrieval support. :D I was just glad I got it out before it disintegrated and got sucked into the filter system. Instead of riding this morning, I would have had to check filters and probably shock the tub. I'm almost obsessive about I the water being clean. I bought a tub with filters that work so well, you can drink the water it's that pure. (The first tub's filters were junk.) I don't like to get in for at least 24 hours after a shock so there would have been no tub tonight. And I need it again tonight. :( (Right hip painful after a bit of a fall today. I didn't fall, someone fell ON me. Long story.)

Musking is when the snake squirts smelly stuff on you. It's not poop, but it smells very bad. Milky yellow-white liquid. It's a defense mechanism.

Last night, Choco ate his first Fuzzy. Addy is shedding. I had Maizey out, and we're watching Wild Boyz Season Three. They do a lot of eating gross things and then vomiting on that show. So Maize is winding around in my hair, around my neck, and I'm massaging her belly- just to see if I felt eggs in there or anything, and suddenly I feel a drop on my wrist, and smell something bad. I lift her away from me, and discover she has totally sh*t on my hair, neck, shoulder, and it REALLY smells. I run to her viv and put her back in, gagging like Steve O and Chris, and tear off my shirt- poop flings onto the kitchen floor, and run to the back door and fling the poop shirt out the door, and run to the bathroom and stick my hair, etc. under the faucet...Ewww!!!

And I got my October SS packaage when I got home, that was cool!! I still have to send out October- I was off to such an on-time start, till I remembered I forgot about stationary, and then we were in the financial crisis...But I'm finally semi-caught up today.

I'm afraid that snake I want to buy on line will get sold at a reptile show November 11th. I could probably scrape up enough to get her now, but not enough for her furnishings. Maybe that's a sign. But it's my birthday in three weeks!

IM Florida next weekend, a 200k on the west coast (of Florida) the next, the Horrible Hundred Century the next, Thanksgiving the next...

Snap- something salty- pretzels?

Unsettling news from work. One of my co-workers has been off sick for 3 months or so now with an inner ear infection. (That's what the dr's said) She couldn't sit up or stay awake for long but recently seemed to be getting better. However someone in her family noticed her neck was starting to swell. Finally went to the dr today and a family member told me she has another lump in her neck and is having a round of tests next week. The young lady had a tumor removed 2yrs ago. HOw crazy is life? DH & I are very close. After almost 30 years you either have to hate each other or be best best friends. We chose the best friends route.
For 2 years I've wanted to take a trip to visit some cousins in Southern Italy, but i wanted to go during a particular festival. This little town they live in is not the most organized, shall we say? Recent updates to their website include advertisements for stuff that already happened... in August.. Well, anyway, I know they have their chestnut festival SOMETIME in November, but i don't know when, so I didn't book my flight until i knew. Meanwhile, my DH booked HIS trip to AZ to hang out with a buddy who just moved there. I don't care for the wife, so I was never included in the plans. But he booked HIS flight before I booked mine. So when I found out what the date was... it was too late. He just left for Arizona. I just kissed him goodbye and drove to work with tears in my eyes. I leave for Italy next week. Fun, scary, dramatic.
here's the strangest part:
on wednesday, i have to pick him up at the airport. Then he drops me off.
THAT is going to be a wrenching experience.

and yes, my secret sister is definitely getting something from Italy.

But I want the chewy center NOW! :o I burn calories like a furnace at night- give me a glass or two of wine before bed and hold a hand 3" away from me and you can *feel* the heat. With a heater like that, I don't understand the need for all the clothes, is all. :D

totally wore myself out Wednesday plotting out my commute course (and getting lost- a lot) then much forehead smiting the next day when I looked at a map and found I could cut about 10 minutes off that...

Mom 'n Dad might be helping me with safety gear etc so I don't freeze or get killed. That's a plus. :D Got my hair cut so I could put it in cute little pixieish spikes or ruffle it a little after taking the helmet off, so that'll make life easier, too.

The story after getting lost- I show up at my new place of work (after negotiating crossing 217 at Scholls Fry, and being lost for an hour and a half in the Murray Hills) clean up in the bathroom (after some young guy sputtered when I told him where I'd just come from) put on rain jacket (to hold in some of the sweat smell... no baby wipes yet...) I go upstairs to give my new manager the money for my fingerprinting, and she says "oh! You biked in! You didn't have to! How was it? How far? Think you can do that every day?" She and the receptionist were asking me lots of questions, then the secretary looks at me, and says very quietly "I am *so* proud of you."
It kind of knocked me back a little. I'm used to you ladies going 10-15 miles a day on your commutes and hearing that, and this lady was so surprised I'd bike anywhere more than 2-3 miles from my house to go to work. I thanked her, but wondered if my response was really adequate.
I bonked hard coming home- it'd been about 4 hours on my bike (between being as lost as I was and the hills) and swore someday I'd get a road bike that weighed less than 28#. Came home and about passed out... but the ride home was much easier than the ride there (way easier to figure out where I was going...)
How I can manage to make a 9 mile ride take an hour and a half, I don't know. Well, hopefully I can speed that up.

so... that was my weekend.

what do you mean, that was your weekend? You haven't had saturday or sunday yet!! next time take some food with you so you don't bonk.
I am sure you can cut your commute time way way down. Did you see that thread, how much does your road bike weigh? Mine weighs 26 pounds. so it's mental! (your problem) you don't need a 16 lb bike to have a pleasant 9 mile commute. Once you figure out how to get there and stuff, it should be a lot quicker. It was 9 miles to the opera the other day and we did it in about 40 minutes. You have any hills?

My "weekend" is on Wednesday and Thursday. The entire route is mostly gentle rollers, some higher than others, but I have no real idea as to the grade. I had hammer gel 3x (1x per hour) and refilled my water bottle when I got there, but still felt like dying. The area where I was lost for maybe an hour and a half was very, very steep, to where it made more sense to stand and pedal or I was spinning like a madwoman. I actually got off and walked a little bit to loosen my legs again. None of that is anywhere near my actual commute path, though. People underestimate my magical ability to get lost. :D

I always go slow while warming up... sadly, though, warming up takes me a while. I'm getting better, though.

I'm thinking about OJ and oatmeal in the morning before I get on the bike, then bagels, cream cheese and coffee when I get there, and a gel if I need it on the way. (I have hammer gel in the flask, and love that stuff) It'll be a learning experience, I'm sure.

we could probably have a huge thread just on how lost we have become.
I always love it when my husband goes off on a new road that suddenly goes down a STEEP HILL.... (i'm following or on the tandem) next thing i know, we are far far down to the bottom.... and it's a DEAD END.
what to do? sit and cry? or Ride back up that MUTHER of a hill.

Kitsune06,
I've found that you can't "unbonk" yourself. There's an old axiom in cycling that you should eat, drink, and shift before you need to. Index shifting has made last one sorta obsolete, but I find the other two still apply Eating always been a problem for me, espically now that I'm extra-fluffy :p
weekends. I have either three or two days ones, This will be a two day affair :( Now what to for the ride Saturday. I can do the club to San Dimas canyon (and see if anything is afoot at the Circle K) or see if my "falling off the bike curse while in Orange County" is still in force. The Orange County are having the Fall metric from Redlands to Oak Glen. It's In San Bernardino and Riverside counties, which is good. The bad: lots o' climbing, and it fairly close (less than 10 miles at times) from the Espranza fire :( decisions, decisions

No kidding- unbonking. I try not to get to that point, though. I dunno that I've 'bonked' for sure, but this was the first time I've felt that "I have to keep moving or I might tip over" kind of determination, where just taking a breather and sitting down somewhere didn't even occurr to me... every ten feet even seemed like a serious effort. Dinner....

I set up my crock pot before work today to make beef, potato, and garlic stew. (in my world, garlic is a vegetable)

The smell when I walked in the door was marvellous!

The beef is falling apart, the broth is yummy. I'll eat some stew in a couple hours, when I'm REALLY hungry. Until then it can cook with the spices and extra garlic I added.

I hardly ever eat red meat (SKnot doesn't like it) but I was craving it when our weather changed. Windy chilly rainy fall!

One long day of exercise never increases my appetite or metabolism, but a week or two sure does. It can take the body a little while to up the metabolism to match the activity, but when it does, watch out! Then you spend the whole day thinking about food, eat a whole meal and want another one in 2 hours, and wake up in the night thinking about food. You feel like an obsessed maniac. After a 2 week hike, I've made people scared. One friend was going to meet me after a hike, and seriously considered just opening the car window and throwing out the food.

My beef stew is really really good! I'm snarfing it! Just the right amount of cayenne and paprika and rosemary and bayleaf. I might've thrown something else in there, too, but I don't remember it at the moment.

Before the evening got going my mom asked me how I felt about her passing on her wedding ring (that she can't wear anymore...arthritis) to my 23 year old niece (and only grandchild), I told her I thought it was a beautiful thing to do and she has my full support. Anyhoo, fantastic night with lots of stories, tears, jokes, and laughter. I am blessed.

Salsa, i love what you had done to your boot! I have a girlfriend who is also languishing in one of those. I will have to tell her about that.

Happy Anniversary to your parents, Queen! I like what you are doing with the ring. Unselfishness goes a long long way.
My parents haven't shared the same room since 1960...

Nanci, cat diarrhea in my hair would be pretty bad. So snake stools are loose?

x, your evening sounds wonderful

knot you riding today?
I have to go shopping for my trip. I need inexpensive gifts for Italian cousins.
I'm going to get every girl cousin a colorful silicon spatula.

Queen, my congrats to your parents - an awesome accomplishment under any circumstances, but you can tell by the look in their eyes that they are still and truely in love.

I think it is wonderful that your mom is handing the ring to your niece - and that you are in support of it. I hate when people start squabbling over their parents possessions.

Salsa - love the boot!
Queen - congrats to your parents. Very cool. They look like fun folks.
Mimi - yup, I'm gonna try to ride, depending on weather. Wanna meet me somewhere?

I'm feeling a little lonely this morning, so even though I have a ton of housework that needs to be done, I'll probably go out. Library if it's raining, riding if it's not.

Title 9 is having their warehouse sale here in Seattle. I'd go, but I have no money. I really need some work pants that won't fall off my hips!

Mom's on her 2nd wedding band. Her plain gold band wore through. She had family friend Oppi Untracht melt it down and design a new one...now that's wearing out.

X- You'll appreciate this. How (and why) am I supposed to do standing TL spine films on a woman in a vegetative state??? And, what do they expect to see in an abdomen film, where the doctor is injecting water into a fistula? (That guy came down yesterday, said he had an IV contrast allergy and would stop breathing- so we had him reschedule till Monday when he can be premedicated. Not like our contrast is going to get into his circulatory system, but you never know what the fistula is connecting to...Errrrr....

Er, um, wha? I understand your frustration. Well on the first one, I guess you could always duct tape her to the fluoro table and stand it up. (put the tape on her, not the gown or whoops... there she goes! :D ) To play it safe, you could put a bike helmet on her first in case she falls off her "ride". Better keep the crash cart handy... for both of you.

On the second, geez. What really gets me is, you can tell them it's a worthless test due to the circumstances, and they'll still want it. Get out the physics books and tutor them on atomic number properties in x-ray.
Anyway, have they US'd him at all to get a prelim idea where or how deep it goes? We sometimes do this under fluoro guidance to "map" what we can until they can get premedicated and do it up right. (gets the doc off our butts for a day or two) It's easier in an Angio suite setup.
Or if all else fails, pull on some gloves and just go spelunking in there, girl. ("Mmmm.... the cream filled kind!" - Timone from The Lion King) Oh! Ew!

Good luck! I wish I could find a way to cheer you up! hehe.

Great pic Queen! Aren't your parents just the cutest? Very nice on the ring.

Trek - wow, big family. Reminds me of mine except they aren't trying to pick a fight during the get together. (I really think my one brother needs medicated, seriously.)

I wish I had some to post but my Dad passed on a few months before I graduated HS. Mom's got all the family pics and won't let them out of her grasp long enough for me to scan them. So, I bought her a nice fire-proof safe to store them in instead. I'd take a pic of my Mom and post it but she'd never talk to me again. Or feed me! That would be too much of a sacrifice, even for you fine ladies. ;)

not really just 3 of us kids. If you look at the "pyramid" in the group shot on the right hand side at the top, going downward are the three of us kids, Duck on Wheels, me, then my bro. Duck on Wheels you can see has a blue vest on. UK Eliphant was not there I think? But we do get along.

The gal on the lower right hand side perched on the stairway arm of the rail as if she'd slid down to that pose is my amazing cousin Dina.

She is pushing 80 now or may have passed that goal.

Duck on Wheels has introduced her to the board so she may be lurking. She rides :D Hi Dina!

The photographer of the shot (used a remote) is my cousin he's in the dark jacket light blue pants to my Moms left. He and his fiance (to his left, blue skirt) do double centuries and crazy stuff like that.

I'm trying to recruit them to the board and then I think I'll have the record. Do I get a toaster if I do?

Wonderful pictures, you guys! Thanks! :D Trek, I don't know why I thought your sister, the Duck, would look Norwegian. Sheesh. I'm a doof. My sister lived in Israel for years, and came to a prenatal class I was teaching when she was home for a visit one time. After class, one of the dads complimented her on how well she spoke English. ... ... Finally my sister said, "well, I grew up here. With Lise." This guy had constructed this entire story in his head about how our parents divorced when we were young, and Emily got taken to Israel... I guess my teaching about labor wasn't too riveting that evening , eh?

At the hosp now. Two tough labors going on. Stayed up waaaay too late with J. last night, but I figure the endorphins will compensate for lack of sleep. I hope. That + caffeine. Am happy. Yea!

Note to self: Not that you were ever going to get a snake, but this snake poop story has pushed it into never NEVER going to get a snake!

Addy didn't eat her toad-scented mouse. The toad was scared by this procedure, though he eventually figured out he wouldn't be harmed. That's ok- I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. I am not hopeful, though.

If somehow I can acquire that snake I want, though, the birthday snake, I woud name her Inez.

TD has 80,something views. We are about to overtake Getting to Know You!

I have nothing cycling to report, except it's a week till IM Florida!!

I saw a funny thing in the yard. A hawk was chasing a squirrel. The squirrel ran up a big tree, in a group of trees, and around the trunk. The hawk tried, and missed. He flew off across the grassy yard to another small tree in the middle of a blackberry patch. The squirrel immediately came down from the tree and headed off toward the blackberry patch. I'm thinking, doen't he know the hawk is there? Why doesn't he stay where he's safe?? The squirrel goes all the way across the bare grass to the blackberry patch, to the tree, and runs up the tree! Was he trying to get the hawk???

Squirrels are suicidal, I swear. From running back and forth in the middle of a road in front of cars to dinking around under hawks to crawling up into attic crawlspaces to die...
Gruh. Too few people are genuinely interested in squirrel hunting.

Crazycanuck,
UNFORTUNATELY it is not the presidential election. In my state we have a senate race (very important) where the GOP guy is telling everyone that he will act like a democrat when he is elected even though he's in Bush's pocket... I am hoping that not too many people are fooled by this.

Notice to all, my parents are not showing up here either. The last photo i have of them together (and the first one too) is of them both at my christening. (I am not in the photo, can you imagine, they put me to bed during my own christening party!) They are cute and young and happy. I always wonder what went wrong.. well, not that much. I can watch my mother today with DH #5 or 6..
What is a normal family?

Yesterday after I posted here, I jumped on my bike and in the fog rode 2.5 miles down the hill (and up too) to Seward Park, a beautiful old growth peninsula right off seattle. (technically, it's IN seattle) THere I met my friend who has gotten some really strange malady which she believes was caused by her being vegan for too many years. It's an autoimmune thing. She lost strength in her hands and has never gotten it back. SHe's gone from gorgeous to skinny. SHe's having expensive treatments done, I hope it helps.
We walked aroundthe park 2.5 miles in the cold fog. She was freezing. I was feeling great thanks to the bike ride down. Then I went back home and on to 1000 other silly chores.

This morning, it's raining. But it's so early thanks to the change in time that it might have stopped raining by the time it gets light out.

mimi - we have been following the election in your state rather closely. My bil is the Libertarian candidate for senate. After the recent debate he has gotten a lot of press as the only candidate with anything intelligent to say. He doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning, but there are alternatives for your vote.

here in Illinois we have a lesser of two evils choice to make for governor. They are both corrupt.

i have a dog who likes to hunt squirrels. Not the cutie in the av, a mixed breed who we think is part sight hound. She hunts like a site hound - she will stand like a statue, just her eyes slowly moving, until prey gets close enough and then boom, she's off. We think she is about 12-14 years old now, not sure exactly, and she has lost a step, so hasn't caught anything in a while, but over the years she caught a number of squirels and one rabbit. once we were in a park and she was off leash and ran behind a clump of trees. Suddenly this old woman starts shouting, "stop, get off, get off". DH and I are amazed, cause Mamie doesn't really approach people, much less attack them. We go sprinting across the park to find out what is going on when Mamie comes running towards us with a squirrel in her mouth. She goes right to dh, drops the squirrel at his feet and sits down, looking up at him, waiting her praise. Apparently the woman was freaking out because our dog was attacking an oh so endangered squirrel.

It's not the squirrels I have issue with. They are content practicing their flying skills all day long, trying to get on the bird feeders. What determined little rodents they are. It's the groundhogs. Aaaaaaah! They come in and chew off all of the succulent stalks and then just let them lay. Wire cages around the plants don't help. They just climb them. I set traps now, the humane kind, and then give them a new home far away. I had one who really liked the gas grill. He would climb up in from below and lick everything. Ew! I couldn't figure out why the hoses were off and then I saw him. Powerwashed the grill and gave it away at a yardsale. Got a new one that's totally enclosed underneath. Thankfully, the groundhog's LDL should be lower by now and that's what matters. ;)

Good morning everyone!

I was a lump yesterday. The only time I left the house was to take the dog for a walk. I spent ALL DAY napping and snuggling on the couch and reading and playing on the computer and yakking on the phone. A complete and total Day Off.

Today I must do housework. I should also fill out my ballot so I can mail it on time.

Mimi- I didn't go to the Title 9 sale, and won't go today either. I can't be spending the money right now, though I'd really like to. My clothes just don't fit anymore...

Think I'll weed out my closet and drawers again today. I've already got quite a pile of "too big" clothes ready to go to the Retex donation box. Payday is Wednesday and I'll go buy a pair of pants then. Maybe a shirt. Maybe I'll order that Ibex Collo turtleneck...:D

KY help! seem to have hurt lower back. Did all my normal stretching exercises yesterday and nothing helped/hurt... b ut when i bend down to pick stuff up

DH just called from the start line of a 100 mile ride in Arizona. He ran into MTKitchen, one of the TE girls.

Mimi - Where in your back does it hurt? If it's really bad, you need to go visit your doc.

Bend your knees when you go after something on the floor, keep your back as neutral as you can while it's grumpy.

Is it hurting low low low in your back, like between your hips and north of your tailbone? (sacro-iliac joint) If it's getting you there, I can tell you a couple really cool and very easy ways to try to calm that down.

then don't do that  get DH to pick things up (when he gate back from AZ that is).

It is gorgeous outside, clear and going to be in the 70's. I love October here.

I will be going up to Sonoma to see Mom and Duck on Wheels. We'll have lunch with Mom, and we'll probably take a walk with DDog.:)

I hope the rest of the local TE gals are out there enjoying this perfect day for a ride.

KY I do similar stuff with the worn or shrunk outa clothes. A gal at work helps run a homeless shelter. I shamelessly abuse the compnay mail and ship clothes to her.

This will keep me from growing back into a size that fits them....right? Once the clothes are gone I can't gain weight back. Right? Also the clothes can't come back in style.

And the old towels I take to local ASPCA, they can use them on dog or cat beds...

you had a groundhog that licked your barbeque grill?? that sounds like a scene out of Caddy shack!

I tried to get a pic of him doing it, but he heard me opening the door and took off. He was way up in there too. I was sitting down on the couch reading and something caught my peripheral vision. I looked over to my right out the backdoor and just saw his bum hanging out the bottom! I deliberately picked a new grill that was groundhog proof. (I was soooo glad I hadn't grilled anything after putting the hoses back on.) For the new one, I extended the patio with some nice brick and pavers and put the new grill there. In the end, it was ok, I got a rotisserie in this one. The upper rack is great for corn on the cob too. Ah, I love picking summer corn and grilling it up.

Here's some recent backyard pics. Why in the world can't they chew on some of the other vegetation? I've got almost an acre of trees back there. Gnaw all ya want. The Buddha was used as a stepping stool for one who tried to climb over the plant cage. He's too old to have critters standing on his head. Maybe I should put a bike helmet on him?!
