for the record: one can not live on chocolate. i have tried today. i now have a tummy ache.
the rest of the tim tams got it, and i savored every one of them. but :( sadly no more. now some yummy ohio buckeye candy is getting it and wow are those good! i think i need to stop while i'm ahead. and i got down to my goal weight too.
Lise,
I am SO happy for you and J. You to deserve all the best life has to offer. Now go bring some new little ones into the world. :)
OK, TD, even *I* read that as Jennifer telling me to go out and procreate! This being a physical impossibility... I'll just keep on midwifin'. :p
CWR, some pages back, it seemed folks were supporting you in going through a hard personal situation? But I couldn't find your original post. Maybe you pulled it. Whatever's going on, I join the rest of TD in offering loving best wishes. L.

Yeah CWR,
me too! I am sorry you are having trouble. I too found out you have to eat more than chocolate... hehehe. Now I try to mix other things into the diet
when i need a lot of chocolate.
Are you back up in Alaska? How much light do you have (I imagine that would make life tough too, it's bad enough here with our measly 9 hours going down to 8!)

BEEF - It's What's For Dinner
I have no idea what the heck I'm doing. I bought cow parts at Costco. Whatever it is (sirloin top cap-off something or another) it was $3 a pound. I have one of the steaks (is it a steak? big flat hunk of bleeding cow flesh) in a frying pan with olive oil and pepper and garlic.
It shrank. Which seems to be the common experience with beef. Smaller than you think at first. Not that I've had that much experience with beef.
Anyway, I'm cooking it on low and I'm gonna add a whole bunch of mushrooms in a few minutes. I'm hoping it is edible. It seems to be miserably tough and chewy. I think I killed it...
Four other steaks are in the freezer, and two are going to be made into beef stew tomorrow.

Knot,
if you LIKE beef, which i'm sortof getting the impression you don't;
but if you do, even if it is as tough as wangleather, it should taste pretty good
even if you burn it. But if you add the mushrooms and onions and keep adding liquid so it doesn't dry out, and you are patient, it will be delicious. (be sure to add a little salt too)
PS so how come you are eating beef?
PPS I am a carnivore myself.

Mimi - I'm an omnivore, and I've been wanting beef. SKnot doesn't eat red meat, so I just don't buy it. But I have no idea how to cook it since I so rarely have it. Pork chops I can figure out, so I'm sorta treating this like a pork chop.
I'll keep cooking it, slowly in the yummy mushroom and olive oil juicy stuff. I've got a baked potato to go with it.
Stew I can figure out. We're good there.
Interesting side note: I was close to vegetarian when I got preggers with SKnot. I craved red meat the whole time I was pregnant. Guess I needed it.

CWR- I feel your pain. Sorta. I was overly optimistic about my riding abilities going to and from work. I'm so sore and so tired and (SO HUNGRY!) I'm in the process of making more soup (having eaten too much already) so i can just stuff myself and then fall asleep. I should stretch, though. d'oh. *sigh*:(
Don't get me wrong, I liked the ride down there (would've liked it more had it not been so hard) but the ride back was scary (dark and with stupid people) and I'm just tired beyond words.
Fun fact: When people tell me to "Get on the F****ing Sidewalk!" I enjoy telling them to do silly things, too... I can't say any of them here (there might be timid or meek folks lurking) but it's fun.

I had a final meeting with the other 2 "cochairs" of our community Tgiving dinner tonight. Too many chiefs in the kitchen and I'll be glad to have this behind me. The meal will be delicious and beautiful, but I'm a nuts and bolts kind of person. Besides this being a free community dinner, all the donations have gone to good charities. They keep added "trivial" stuff to me like table decorations (hand made stamped cards, flower arrangements, tablecloths, disposable serving platter, confetti, individual serving cups for cranberry sauce, etc.) and all my black and white self (I AM a project manager folks!) see's is money not going to the senior center, or the sponsoring church. Ugh, I volunteered to do this myself, they have pretty much taken over because they both work in town and only part time. But I am thankful cuz that's less I had to do:p And I'm sure it will be appreciated by those attending. OK, vent off my chest....
OTG, I say let X rought 'em up a bit. Then they'll treat you with respect. Like raising kids my parents always said, a little fear can go a long way:cool:
CWR, whilst chocolate is a food group, it can only be used so for 2 consecutive meals. Now go eat a salad and send me the candy, lol. JK, my bootie doesn't need any. I'm sending my cool North Face pants back cuz they're too long. And if I can get into the shape I want to be in, I'll order them again and hopefully they will have some short lengths in stock.
Off to take the garbage out. Yippee!

ARGH! I am so mad!
A 12 hr shift today, busy, sometimes frustrating, but not awful. The midwife coming on after me arrived 1.5 hr early, not to help out, but to do paperwork or nap, whatever, in our call room, which meant that I essentially needed to stay out of there. Minor irritation.
She's also the midwife who does our schedule. She was also the director of my graduate program (13 years ago), and has been a midwife > 25 years. You get the point, she's one of my respected elders. BUT. She gets worked up about the schedule. I requested a week off in March, to go to Italy with J. A part-time midwife had a request in that overlapped mine by 3 days. No big deal, thought I, as there are 10 of us, although most are part time. Without going into details here, what I'm MAD about is that tonight, at 10 PM, Betty's telling me, "I don't think we can do it!" I said, "Betty, I have PLANE TICKETS TO ITALY."
I emailed our boss and said, "Please help me with this." I am sure it will work out. Betty sometimes does this sort of frantic, "it can't WORK!" stuff about the schedule, but it works out. I mean JEEZ! it's four months from now! We can't figure something out?!?
OK, I'm tired, I'm frustrated, and there's nothing more to be done tonight. I will get the days off some how. Sigh. Thanks for letting me vent, TD, or for ignoring it and moving on to a post with chocolate or wine or snakes in it! :p

Lise - I'm so happy for you and J. It sounds an awful lot like the start of my relationship with my sweetie two years ago. I think it's something to do with age and knowing what's important. We are still gloriously happy after two years and I expect we will be for years to come. I have a good feeling about you and J too. :) Yay!
Take a deep breath and give the whole work/Italy thing a day or two. Something will work out. Like you said, it's four months away. The schedule chick just doesn't "get" it - so much can happen between now and then. I don't blame you for being mad but it'll work out. It has to.
CWR - glad to see you around. Hope things are tolerable. Chocolate is good. Eating something healthy too. ((((CWR)))
Dar - sounds a bit frustrating. I agree about spending the money on more important things. When is your TG anyway? This week? On a Thursday usually isn't it? At any rate, I think it's so good of you to do the good deed. I've thought about doing it but that's as far as I've gone.
Knot - how'd the beef turn out? When in doubt cook it a long time.
X - you kill me. I just love reading your posts... So much energy!
Well, I am finished my report cards! Yay! Well I think they're done. Gotta see what the powers that be think. I'm sure there will be a coupla typos to fix up. Anyway, I am happy.

Lise - my sympathy on the scheduling thing. It will work out, and like you said it's four months away!
One of our staff had her panties in a wad over the fact that my "team" has a 4 day weekend at New Years. Well, we all work some variation of 4 10hr shifts, and our team switched days off to give us a 4 day weekend. We're still working all our hours for that week, still seeing all our patients. Heck, everyone could do that if they wanted to!
sometimes bitterness and resentment can be exhausting to deal with.

Kel - heck of an introduction, eh? I thought the same thing too but I'll reserve judgment. I mean, when I first posted, someone thought I was a spammer cuz of my name and almost had my posts pulled even though my first post was my intro. (I saw the possibilities of confusion) Then she read them, gave me a little time and was cool. I'm sure in hind sight, she still wishes she had me bounced tho.
Kit - have a nice, stiff drive to work today. Back on the bike tomorrow tho. You need to get your legs back girl. You're only *mumble, mumble* years old! Tell H to give you a massage when she gets home tonight. No excuses.
The package should be going out this week. I think. I hope. Well, I will try my hardest. (life crashes down and it's all I can do to duck somedays) I'll send it with tracking so you can 'watch' it, ok?
BMo3 - hope this is a pain-free, fog-free day for you. Kick back, relax and let life go on around you for a while. It's ok to zone out sometimes. Actually, I can highly recommend it.
CWR - talk to you later about that email. For now, just ponder, reflect and have a coldashelljeezi'mfreezingmyazzoffwheresthenearestbeach day. Or something like that. :D

Yep, I think we all are suspicious of Sad Ranger. The newest stealth troll technique is to post a few things that elicit sympathy and motherly reactions, then slowly to start introducing bodilyfunction/sex issues. T I - Double G-ER!
update on me: the hard time for lise and mimi that missed it was i broke up with my bf because of certain circumstances. i even went as far to move all my stuff out. well long story short, i moved back in after we talked a lot. things are on shakey ground now, but we'll see where this path leads us. only time will tell. i am still having a rough time with everything, but after having "me time" last night and sitting quietly and thinking about everything i feel like i have made the correct decision. still its hard. its my first "real" relationship where i've loved with my heart and not my mind.
now enough about me (considering it isn't to happy) what about this newbie that's laying her heart out? why do i always miss everything?

well, remember, a relationship only works if both people are really committed.
Just because you love with all your heart and mind doesn't mean the other person will do that. the cardinal rule: screw me once shame on you.

Buckeyes, besides being the state tree, are also a candy. Not all buckeyes are made correctly. It is amazing how different they can taste. The real ones are awesome. Basically it is a ball of sugary peanut butter, dipped in chocolate, with only the "eye" part of the peanut butter showing.
Here is am Ohio recipe:http://recipestoday.com/recipes/289.php?wcat=27
This recipe has a photo and nutritional info (do not look at the nutritional info):http://allrecipes.com/recipe/buckeyes-i/detail.aspx
I do not make god buckeyes, DLM does not sell good one either and they are gourmet (good thing we ate those and did not send them to CWR). The best ones are from Bill's. Those we had to mail off directly before being eaten. :o :o

Yep, I think we all are suspicious of Sad Ranger. The newest stealth troll technique is to post a few things that elicit sympathy and motherly reactions, then slowly to start introducing bodilyfunction/sex issues. Her intro was very cursory and no real bike info to speak of. I don't think she is much interested in biking.
Well I do want to give her the benefit of the doubt. I am just curious about anyone who starts off the way she did. I was a little suspicious when she mentioned having affairs and I thought her intro was totally different from her other post (***kicker, no photo, no town/state/prov. - unless there really is a Sunny Island)

(((CWR))) Often I've wished I could preview the transcript of a relationship! Good luck. Tough choices, which may seem much clearer in retrospect. My bit of sisterly advice: If you find yourself arguing with or denying your "gut" or inner voice, stop and listen. Inside, you will know what's right for you. L.
I second what Lise said. I argued and ignored my inner voice for 6 1/2 years. I probably missed some wonderful potential relationships because I tried too hard to stay in the one I was in. But I ended up where I am, so I can't complain or kick myself too much!
Trust your gut instincts.

Knott, bummer about the bowl. Finnish pottery is great. I wonder when they do archeological digs and find pottery shards if say for example ancient Roman who broke it was saying "bummer, I dropped the handpainted Greek bowl and it was full of delicious stew".

CC: Which heart rate model did you get? Can you wear it on your wrist, too, or does it stay on the bike? Let me know how that works out. I'm still on the fence about which model to get. I should make up my mind soon because the big paycheck comes in 2 days! :D Although I suspect my new crank and stem will eat up a good portion of it.
Bikingmom: I actually had $21,000 in debt after college (student loan and a used car). I worked two jobs for a while and did the Dave Ramsey thing until I paid off my last debt Sept. 1.
Update on me: Well, my trainer kicked my butt anyway. And I felt so sluggish and yucky because of gaining some weight back. I could really feel it.
He said some encouraging things, but basically something in my head just said, "What the heck are you doing? Ruining your dreams for some donuts? Not smart."
So, back to eating healthier. Somehow I suspect I won't be able to relose the extra pounds as quickly as I regained them. Doesn't seem fair, does it?
I bet I'm not going to have anything to do at work today. No one is here. The time goes soooooo slowly when there's absolutely nothing to do. I should have brought my iPod, but I forgot it.

Inner voice test question:
A friend of mine once told me her "test question" for relationships. I've always liked it. "Is your world larger or smaller with this person in it?"
My problem has always been that I think "well, it could get better later" and stick around much longer than I should. If it wasn't that good before, and isn't that good now, it probably won't be so good later, either.
Not that I'm giving advice! I'm just pondering out loud with my first cup of coffee.

Knot, that's an awesome question to ask! I'm gonna start using it if you don't mind.
The literacy fair was alright. Too structured for me and a very high energy child! They had 3 20 minute work stations and they had to sit and listen and/or draw at each. Very hard for my little guy. I was wiped out at the end of it and then he had to cry and throw a fit when it was time to go. Ugh.
My friend Scott (the pilot guy with the heart valve problem) is gonna be within a hour or so of me today. But I can't find a sitter for my little guy so I can go see him. He's having his heart surgery on the 29th, so if you could start praying for him I would appreciate it. I'm hoping I can take my little guy down to go see him or see him this weekend, either way, I'd like to give him a hug before his surgery. He's only 43 - it just blows me away. And the FFA will be grounding him for 6 months because of it and then he has to go through a bunch of tests to get his license back.
Off to work, yippee!

My cell is giving me shocks when I touch it, and it doesn't recieve calls. Won't hold a charge very long, either. (probably cuz it's pumping all the electricity into my hand instead of the phone)
Obviously I'm gonna have to break down and buy a new phone one of these days. Anybody know of a "bombproof" trimodal cell phone? The kind that is tough as nails? I've had this one about 5 months.
I don't need a camera phone or an MP3 player phone. I just need a plain ol' super-sturdy trimodal phone. Damp-proof, drop-proof, Knot-proof. "Ugly as sin and tough as old leather."

Knot-I am sorry about the bowl. I loved Finland. I wish I would have bought something other than a warm jacket for living in the USSR.
It is fun watching TV with someone via the phone, sorry you two were not together. Oh yes, get a new phone. Mine is ano frills phone and has gone on numerous trips with the boys and still keeps on working. It was one of the free phones with plan.
OTG-slip ups are going to happen, it is best to make peace with them early on or you will drive yourself crazy. Been there, trust me. You are doing fantastic. Oh, just for you, I pulled out the scale (I despise scales). In one day I weighed 6-8 pounds more, depending on the time of day. The morning was cool, later add 6 pounds, later back to cool, later added 2 more for and 8 pound gain. Scales are crazy, evil things. Clothing and measurements, those I like.
Congrats on succeding with Dave Ramsey. he has a great approach. If debt would stop piling up, I may get caught up. I came out of school with +$70,000 in student loan debt. I am on the "to death" payment plan. A house did not help, all the repairs. $17,000 in orthodontics. The list goes on. :(
Again, be very happy you do not have debt and be proud. :D
About HRM-I want the Polar RS200SD. I have read awesome things about this model: Polar S625x it does the same as what I want, but also has an added cycling computer, which I do not need.
Kit and X and CWR-glad you all had a lovely chat last night. :)

X, too bad you can't make The Great Turkey Torturefeast ... er, I mean 3-hour Black Friday spinning class. Sorry you have to work; bummer. Not sure I can do the entire class. My longest ride in recent months has been 2:20. I plan to take frequent breaks and see if I can just finish, but if not, no big deal. AG is going to help me out with the stem. We'll see how the crank replacement discussion goes.
BMo3: 8 pounds in a day? Wow. But I do really need to nip this thing in the bud. And it's totally not just about the scale saying I weigh more -- I can feel the difference in my body, too. I ate well last night and today, though, so I'm headed back in the right direction.
For Thanksgiving, my goal is just not to go overboard with the snacking. It's tough because at my grandmother's house there will be at least 8-10 different desserts -- no one loves pumpkin pie as much as I do -- as well as chips, pretzels, M&Ms, cheese balls, etc. etc. sitting out all day. Oh, and lebanon and cream cheese rolls, a family tradition. Yummy. *drools*
But if I can keep the snacking in check and stick mainly with baby carrots, I'll be fine.

Knot - FWIW, you might want to take the phone back into your local store and have them check the battery. I think it kinda melted down a bit inside and is "cross-firing". In other words, it's not grounded right anymore. Won't keep a charge cause it's feeding against itself and back into the frame work and your hand. Won't let you recieve either because of ground issues. Do it soon as it will slowly destroy your inner circuitry from feedback. Hope that's all it is. After only 5 months, it should be covered right? Otherwise, I'd go with a Nokia next time. I've currently got 2 Motorolas but not happy with the reception or that I can't adjust the volume enough to hear the ringer or people on the other side clearly. My Nokias worked great through all kinds of beatings until I upgraded to newer technology. Good luck.
Edit: Or not. Hope it stays ok for you.
OTG - Yeah wish I could be there. I'm sure you'll have fun without me tho. You can do it, just pace yourself and make sure you can talk a little. Then you know you're at the right pace to finish. I'll be careful with my choice of foods when I get you two over for dinner. We don't need all of us gaining weight over it. :o I love the lebanon bologna and cream cheese wraps too. Some PA Dutch traditions are hard to break, huh? I like sweet the best. Let me know how the LBS does for you. I like to patronize small businesses and would drive to out another good LBS just "to see".

Knot's phone problem sounded misdiagnosed to me too! X, you could be right.
Dh just bought himself a Selle anatomica. It's bright red with black rails.
It's apparently waterproof leather, so he won't be able to ruin it by riding in the rain like he ruined his old Brooks.
For Black friday, we are going to AT LEAST two bike shops as we head towards home from the south part of the state.
I will give full reports on each shop; i've never been to either.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (Well not to CC. Do you have TG at all down there Crazy? I'll be around here this weekend. Reports are done and it's supposed to snow so I won't be able to bike - 39 lousy km in November so far - aaack!! Guess it's time to start riding the exercise bike in the basement...)
Knot - where are you going in Canada? Vancouver? And I loved your question. Emailed it to both daughters. Kind of reminded of Ann Landers favourite - Are you better off with him or without him?
OTG - good luck with the eating this weekend but don't be too hard on yourself if it's a challenge. You can always start over again on Monday. I don't even bother to try at times like that - life is meant to be enjoyed and eating healthfully MOST of the time is still a good thing. 3 hours spinning?! Can't even imagine it.
What is Black Friday anyway?
BM3 - Sorry you're feeling so bad. What's up? Is it your "regular" stuff or something new or a bug?
CWR - CUTE puppy! I am such a sucker for baby animals. I have two big dogs but I'm sure I'd get another if someone brought me a puppy.
They don't do Canada on Zillow. Is it a new site? Maybe we'll be on it eventually...

99% of the folks in the states have the Friday after Thanksgiving off. Most stores will sales and open their doors at 6AM. The parking lots for malls are usually jam packed not good, unless you shop for gifts in-line

Hi, CC. You asked a while ago if Mr. Salsa and I were going to do Lake Taupo this year. Not THIS year for sure---between all the stuff with my mom, and the house expansion, we won't have time or money for any kind of real vacation. We need to win the lottery, except that we're too cheap to PLAY the lottery...Anyway, Lake Taupo is a future aspiration.
I don't think you'll be all alone on T'giving weekend, or even today! All we do is eat turkey and stuffing like total hogs, and by late tonight we'll be on TE TD bemoaning how hoglike we feel. You can enjoy our oinking later today. Hope the weather in WA is still nice!
Regards to the TD world, girls.
Happy T-day, all!
My sweet niece Maya is on her way over to play with me for a few hours, then J. and C. (his 17 yr old daughter) will pick us up to go to my sister's for dinner.
J, C, and I went to see Wicked last night, then to a late night dinner at The Italian Village, a fun, cool, old Italian restaurant downtown. We had a really nice time. She's a sweet girl, and, while I'm sure we were all nervous (OK, *I* was nervous  ), we had fun. The kid's grown up in the South, and has never had pumpkin pie. I know. Shocking. We'll fix that today.
My scaredy-cat, Ariel, who almost always hides when new people come over, walked right up to C. and accepted petting. She did the same thing the first time J. came over. This is a very good sign, I think! Either they are good people with peaceful, loving energy, or Ariel's gone completely senile. :p
Have a great day, ladies! L.

CA - My great big golden (Agnes) has a very keen sense about whether someone is nice or nasty. On several occasions when we've been out walking, she'll start her "mean dog" growl into her "open a can of WA" bark when we encounter certain strangers. They keep their distance (she's 96lbs and tall/long for a female). Conversely, she will submit to for a free belly rubs with other folks. My two less-intuitive goldens don't seem to have that sense--they just want to be admired and petted.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I did it! I totally stuck with my eating plan for today and I feel awesome. My plate was half full of veggies and salad, and I also enjoyed a roll, sweet potatoes and turkey with gravy. And I didn't go overboard on desserts as I had feared -- just one slice of pumpkin pie (my all time favorite) and 1/2 small slice of pumpkin roll. And I didn't snack or pick at chips, pretzels, candy, etc. Woo hoo!
BM03, I don't like a lot of turkey day foods ... mainly, I don't really care for turkey. I eat it, but I just don't love it. And I don't eat cranberry sauce. And don't particularly like stuffing. But I've grown fond of sweet potatoes in recent years and I'm well-known in the family for my pumpkin pie obsession.
I second the comment on Xmas decorations. Why are so many up, even in the days before Thanksgiving?
Well, I'm off to sleep. Going for a ride with AG tomorrow because the 3-hour spinning class was full. (Thank goodness. ;) )

Hi all,
I, on the other hand, went to work today. Starting to have to think about the Christmas concert now that the report cards are done. Geez, if it's not one thing, it's another. I'm looking forward to January so I can just teach for awhile. :)
So when do you usually cook the turkey? Wed or Thurs? Our thanksgiving day off is a Monday so some people cook it Sun and others wait till Monday.
BM3 - glad your migraine is gone! I woke up with quite a headache this morning but I think it's because I had a margarita just before I went to bed... :D I'm sticking to red wine tonight. One glass only.
I like the TG food, but only for one day. Well maybe turkey sandwiches for a second day but not the rest of it. Any kind of pie is fine with me...

Your commute sounds like a good daily ride though.

Have to take the motorcycle to the shop, Thom has to go work for a bit to get caught up again, have to try to hook up with some folks that want to trade motorcycle gear with us, want to buy a new truck, want to get in a good ride, need to mow the lawn and finish putting up Christmas decorations while the weather is still decent, groceries, the bathroom needs cleaning, the kitchen floor needs to be washed... it's a never ending list. Oh yeah, I have to do report cards.

Oh Veronica - poor you. When are they due in? I am hoping to get mine back from admin today so I can fix anything (hopefully nothing) and get them copied and stuffed into envelopes. On the other hand, lucky you for being able to ride....

I don't have to give them to admin. My conferences start on Wed. I have two done so far. :D They take so long because I have to put a grade for nearly every Benchmark in Lang. Arts and Math.
We've talked ourselves out of buying a truck. AGAIN. So that's one less thing to do today.
Oh... but there's also the Christmas cards to do and the calendars to make. And I really want to make an apple pie. I need to make more cookies too. I really don't want to wash the kitchen floor. One of those chores I had to do as a kid...
I guess I need to go be semi-productive. :p

CC-I am here. We have been rather off schedule with the holidays, up late sleeping in. It has been delightful. Still no riding for me, but i can run. I will wait for the sun to set before I go running. :)
KG-I would very much like snow. Sadly we are warming up again. High in the 60F or 16C. It is too late in the year for these warm temps. :(
Veronica-Happy riding today. Someday I would love to be able to ride with you! (okay, trail you from a distance. :D) Work a little on the report cards, then go ride to unwind. :)
CWR-I am so glad you were able to talk to your father.
Black Friday-I never go out and shop on this day. I did it once and that experience was more than enough to hold me over for the rest of my life.
Another lazy day in this household. My DH is making big, fluffy pancakes. I put blueberries on mine as I do not like maple syrup. Also coffee, very strong and black, followed by fresh squeezed orange juice. YUM! Christmas music is playing in the background, I may start working on my Christmas cards today. Definitely heading out for a run tonight. Now if I could find some place that has Under Armour on sale.
I ordered 3 Spinnervals for myself from Santa-he was quite generous to me. ;) Now I need to convince my Neurologist on the 22nd to clear me. Maybe if I promise to wear a helmet indoors and ride only with someone present?

TG was pretty good to us, talking with the family, etc etc. They always ask about my family (a gentle 'why are you here' I guess) but they understand my not being able to fly back to WI for the holidays. It was lots like a midwestern thanksgiving- games and pie afterward, etc...
CWR- So glad you got to talk to your Dad; I know how much that meant to you. It was one of the things you've really needed to do lately.
X- Glad you found a buddy this year to keep things sane
I have errands to run today, going out and making keys, buying lockable skewers for my bike *no one's taking my baby's wheelz* and in general, setting the card on fire.
It's funny. No matter how gruff you can start feeling about your stressed-out SO (holidays are 'fun' under the right circumstances), when you're in the house they grew up in, and end up seeing pics of them as chipmunk-cheeked little kids, it's all better. Until they start kicking your butt in one of the board games Mom brought out.

i am so sick of my feet hurting! so far today, walking from the parking lot to my desk killed. for the record its not a very long walk at all. i feel like a $#@&$)% for how i'm walking around. this just plain stinks. i have my dr appointment in a week and then if it comes down to it (which i'm sure it will) surgery a month. i just want to be able to walk like a normal person!

Arrgh! At work today. I really wish I was riding with OTG and AG instead. Of course, it's gorgeous out and I'm stuck inside. I may have to take a little walk on the path around the hospital later. I called AG on my way to work and she was hooking OTG up with her bike shop before the ride. Looks like they did a fit for her and are ordering a new crank. They are treating her right over there. Nice job AG, thanks for taking care of our girl. Of course, now I have all this energy left over that I didn't get to use up on the nasty LBS guy. Darn! :D
Kit - Yeah my little buddy was a great companion. Great pup, Bernese Mountain Dog. Unfortunately, not mine. He listened to me all day and was very calm with everything going on. Hung right by my side. I miss that kind of stuff. Real cutey tho, huh? He likes to jump up on my shoulders and look me right in the eye. Couldn't get my glasses repaired today tho. Rats! It'll take up to 8 days for a new pair. The originals only took 4 so I don't get it. Well, I put my contacts in for the day. The A/C at work dries my eyes out so I normally don't wear them here. I've been getting all the "You've got blue eyes!" comments. Maybe they change color when I wear glasses or something. I dunno.
CWR - Sorry you're at work too. Somebody has got to keep the mail system running tho. It was very busy here when I walked in, but now nothing. Hope it stays that way.
So glad you got to talk to your Dad. I call my Mom about every other day and drop in on her at least twice a week to make sure she's ok. She lives 5 min from my work. Sometimes, I forget how good I've got it being able to do that. Miss my Dad terribly still. Today is Mom and Dad's anniversary and tomorrow is Mom's b-day. Dad always said that he was the best b-day gift my Mom ever got. Mom always said that he certainly was the cheapest. :) I've got an all-day wedding thing tomorrow and won't get to see her until Sunday but we've got a dinner date after my ride.
Bmo3 - I am looking at getting my spinervals tonight for sure. See what you started by making me help you research them? I'll start with 2 and go from there. I'm thinking Sweating Buckets and possibly Recharge. Not sure about the 2nd one yet. Sorry you have to wait to use yours but I have no doubt you'll be on the bike for x-mas. You're tough as nails.
Hmmm, well I guess I'll go do something productive, now. Like continuing education credits. (right Nanci? I love the fact that they changed it so my board exams don't count anymore.) I need 12 per year starting immediately. :(
Have a wonderful day and be safe. (IOW, don't get killed in the mall lines)

Well, after 2 months of waiting i finally got to go to the Spoke and Sprocket
bike shop in Tacoma Washington. To my great disappointment they only had 1 Mondonico bike set up, and it was way bigger than anything I could ride.
Further, they said that the brothers Mondonico were retiring and he was not certain of what the bikes from the new shop would be like...
So I don't imagine I will ever GET a Mondonico.
I asked the fellow what he does for people built like me (average woman size)
that want a nice bike. ANd he said he puts them on Serotta's.
Then upon hearing more about my interests (steel, but not necessarily custom) and needs he mentioned Waterford.
I hadn't told him that I wanted an Italian bike. So next stop... Sammamish bikes
to talk about Marinoni.. Not in any hurry here, I have 3 bikes to ride right now.
I find the Fremantle doctor very interesting. GOod to know that Australia has a way to cool off!
We had a nice enough Turkey day; except that the drive south - 140 miles
took 5 hours!! no, we don't have a traffic problem!!
ARGH!

Let in snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Great big beautiful flakes tonight. Thankfully it waited until I had driven the little guy all the way out to his dad's. After school, I dragged dh around the mall while I tried on sexy black party dresses but didn't buy anything. I just don't look good in black. Might have to find an alternative. Now we're back with a bottle wine and a movie (Davinci Code). Report cards are behind us, there's a couple of inches of snow in the yard, life is good. :D
And the good news is - I can wear a size 6 again!!! OMG, I was trying on dresses and steering towards the size 8's after wearing 10s' for the past few years and they were hanging on me. Finally decided to see if I could squeeze into a 6 and lo and behold, it fit! When I got home, ran to my closet and pulled out 4 pairs of pants that I haven't been able to wear in two years and they fit!!! I am so happy... :) Wonder if I'll ever fit into a 4 again? Oh well, a girl can dream. I just want to get down to 115 lbs so I can get up hills easier...
Sounds like Black Friday is similar to our Boxing Day - biggest shopping day of the year.

Just returned from having a drink and a chat with Jobob. Very nice. We both decided to go with the Riesling -Edgefield. Don't know the year but very sweet, nose of pear and apricot.
We chatted about TE, of course, and had lots of fun. Got the tour of the Grand Lodge. At one point there was some excitement because a guy was in the hot tub "soaking pool" sans shorts "acting weird" so we reported him to the front desk. Aside from that, much relaxed chatting until we both felt like we were going to fall asleep. I'm pretty close to being there. (asleep, that is) yays!

http://tinyurl.com/yxlk7n You have to watch the video...
I did a "donation release" today. A local resident...111 years old...the nations oldest WW1 veteran. I had read about it. Gov. Busch had given him a certificate last month. He was in the same "trailer" since 1960, he was so cute...and I thought, so alone. I called the funeral director and asked if he thought they might like a dove release. I had been at that cemetary several times. I brought 12 birds. Ended up that the relatives kept coming up wanting to release a bird. I originally asked "would a family member like to release the single white bird, representing the soul?" They all wanted to. I reached in and got a bird for each one. It really was very moving. There wasn't one of them with a dry eye. Most of them kissed the bird. I was amazed at the media there. Have already received some pictures (via email) from The Observer. Watched Fox news and I WAS ON IT!!!! If any of you in Fl get it, I bet it will be on later tonight. FOX news. The family thanked me so many times. The funeral director thanked me several times. Man, do I feel good. Thought I would share. God, I love what I do. Someday, I might even make money doing it!!! In the mean time, you can't put a price on how it makes me feel.

Nanci - very nice girl, very nice.
Dar - no one on call at the vet? what makes you think it's a bladder infection? dog going more lately, history of bladder infection, overweight... (that's usually a big contributor) I'd try cranberry but I'm not sure how the dog's digestion will take it. should be fine but... Careful, diabetes and bladder infection have many of the same symptoms and causes. Make sure they do a blood test while you're there, just to be safe.
Kit - Oh, you have no idea how I agonized over this response. (Or maybe you do. ;)) So I just checked the weather channel instead. Portland area is chilly and wet I see. X - Yup, AG took very good care of me. Bike shop guy was very nice and took the time to take all kinds of measurements and got out this weird protractor thing to check out my angles and such. It turns out, he says my stem is perfect! He said my top tube length is equal to AG's and she rides a 54 cm frame. I guess I did a super job ordering my bike after all! :D He said my saddle height is OK, fore/aft was spot on, etc. Go me. It'd be pretty expensive to go to a triple (would need new brake levers and maybe derailer), but he's going to set me up with a compact crank that is almost the same gearing as a triple would have been. And the switch to the compact crank is far less money, so I get more to spend on bike stuff.
And if you want a ride report, well, AG cracked the whip, but it felt GREAT.
AG - Thanks again so much for your hospitality. :D
CC - Have fun at your Ironman! It is soooo motivational to see an Ironman. If you do take pics of the leaders, please share! I also got a neat pin when I volunteered.
BMO3 - I hope you're cleared! Then I want a review of the Spinervals because I should probably get at least one. I tend to just kinda poke around when I'm on the training watching old TDF or Ironman videos.
In other news ...
I busted it and I lost all the weight I had gained. Yes! Official weigh in is Tuesday, so I might even come in with a loss after all.
And after weeks of you guys listening to me whine about it, I *finally* bit the bullet and ordered a heart rate monitor. I got it on 2-day delivery, so hopefully AG's bike shop can help me set up the cadence stuff on the bike. (AG said that LBS only has 1 model in the store.) I'm going to move my road bike's computer to my commuter if I can figure out how to do so.
I also ordered some stuff from TE on Thursday night or Friday morning and I got them TODAY. Talk about speedy. And I got some cool triathlon cycling socks. Sweet. Looking forward to spinning with my new shorts, too. The chamois is much nicer than my other pairs.

heh. I was on that tangent earlier, elsewhere. Relationships are either 50 50 or someone gives way too much. Eventually, hopefully, that giver snaps and says "Woah hang on, what am I DOING?!" but... sadly, not always. What would happen if suddenly the giver stopped? The relationship would likely disintegrate... the give/take balance would be completely disrupted.
I wish people would wake up, too... but it's not bloodly likely. So a**holes will keep using perfectly wonderful, warm, sweet people and convincing those sweet people that they're "lucky to have them around.".
ok, I'm mad. Off to have a pleasant evening w/ DGF (who is pretty 50 50, and if not, I think I'd be the taker, there....)
....and I'm damm lucky. I know I am.

Thats why I'm divorced after 22 years of marriage. It took awhile to figure it out.
Cyclchk (or however you spell that) - are you having a bad day relationship-wise? Sorry... But the answer is yes. Even with mr. perfect, there are still things I wonder about. Why do I put up with that? I guess it's mostly because the good things so far overshadow the little bad things that it's worth it. Nobody's perfect, especially not me.
So what did he do today?

Thanks everyone for tolerating my rant earlier. Partly it was due to too much wine - I have become such a lightweight now that I am on a healthy kick. One lil' ol bottle that used to just tease me now knocks me on my proverbial arse.....
KEL - We are re-doing our kitchen. Ripping out cabinets, sinks, etc. And we are both so strong willed and stubborn. Combine that with wine on my part and its sure to spell a night of squabbles. My DH is really a good guy. The best even. And yes , Mr. Wonderful fits him well. Its just sometimes working together isn't always the smartest avenue.... tomorrow at least the wine will be gone and I'll have coffee. (Gawd, have I turned into such a lightweight that one lil ol bottle is gonna give me a hangover???? )
Coffee fixes everything :p

CCHCk..yes coffee fixes everything...ahhhh..
I'm sure you'll get through fixing your kitchen without having to strangle your dear.
I guess I can sort of relate when Ian first tried teaching me how to drive...Let's just say I found a nice driving instructor, failed the test 3 times but now have my licence. It's not that i was a really bad driver, i have difficulty with judging distance & depth with my left eye.
May I ask why you're dreaming of Boston?
BM03 will probably tell you Tim Tams fix everything..? Christmas crumbs perhaps?
Peeps are nice after being in the freezer!!!
I am counting myself lucky atm...I just looked at the weather forecast for Grand Prarie & Edmonton.. Do i ever feel guilty...Grand Prarie's expecting a high of -26C on Monday. Fort Mcmurray's warmer..hahahaha..
I need to go back to Canada just to experience that temp again. I've been away from temps that cold for a few years now.
Sticking my head in the freezer just doesn't do it for me..

CC many congrats on the license. The 3rd times the charm they say ;)
I am dreaming of Boston as it is my most fav city. Granted I have not been to many but Boston holds a special place in my heart. Its where my DH and I really "feel in love" and spent so much of our early relationship together. And Boston is just so cool to me, with its history and recreation and tourism. I love Boylston Street and its architecture and the old churches in Boston and Back Bay and Faniul Hall and the Fleet Center and the Aquarium...... I could go on and on.....
(sticking my head in the freezor is about all the really cold I want these days..... )

I've never heard the word whinge until I came to TE. In fact, I still haven't actually "heard" it. Is it pronounced like hinge? Does it mean whine? Is it an aussie word?
CChyk - Tomorrow is another day. I had too much wine tonight too. Shared a litre at the restaurant, then came home, plugged in the amp and have been singing with my sweetie since. Oh my, what the neighbours must think... :D

Cchk-Boston's a nice city & would like to go back one day.
KG-Whinge means whine & is pronunced like hinge.
It's an Australian & Kiwi word...If you really want to hear it, you could always watch a couple of the following Australian & NZ films & see if they say it:
Muriel's Wedding
Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Dirty Deeds
Once were warriors
Scarfies
The Castle
Romper Stomper-(back when russel crowe was young!!)
Goodbye Pork Pie
An Angel At my Table
Heavenly Creatures
I don't know if the humour of The Castle, Goodbye Pork Pie & Scarfies would be totally understood in Canada/US..

well, there's snow mixed in the rain this morning. It's bitter cold okay, for HERE it's bitter cold, about 36 degrees. DH wants to ride today. He's gone off the deep end and I am NOT following him.
Yesterday was bad enough at 38 with sunshine. This is 36 with snow mixed with rain falling down.
crazy crazy crazy. i'm not going there!
Instead i will do fun INDOOR activities, thank you very much.
It was nice to have ridden yesterday, but the pain in my hands was very disturbing.
I only went 16 miles. did my arms shorten up since October? what the heck is going on?
CrazyC, (we have two CC's i noticed) you are right that we would miss the humor. When watching british or australian films I do a lot of huh? what did he say?

the weather here? Wet. From October to April. Wet. Blinding flashes of some unknown orb rising in the sky in the east, thankfully obscured by the soft, mother-like clouds, then setting in the west, where it can no longer harm us...

OTG - plug your ears. Well, the snow is still falling, but it's cold and not big flakes any more so it takes awhile to pile up. It's -6 right now (21F). Then some really cold air from the north is supposed to descend upon us tomorrow with lows of -22 (-8F) and highs is -13 (8F) most of next week.
Nevertheless, I am going to dig out my cross country skis which I have not used in about 10 years and ski out my door today. When I bought this house two years ago, I was excited to be out of the valley bottom again and looked forward to getting much more snow. Unfortunately we had almost no snow last winter so I am looking forward to it even more now.

I love Aussie humor, along with British humor. Our local PBS station used to show all kinds of "imports" - lots and lots of comedy. Now it seems to show nothing but "How to improve your life and live to be a million years old, even if you don't want to...here have a hug" shows.
:o I'm becoming addicted to the two games on my new Palm. One is plain old solitare, the other is Bejeweled. This is bad. :o

SNOW!!!
This is the snow at my mom's house yesterday, with another big storm coming in. When we left this morning, there were about 6 inches of snow. We left early while it was still kind of dark, when the snow was stopped. After we made our escape, she got another 6 inches, and is expected to get MORE through-out the day and evening. She's about 3 miles from Abbotsford BC.
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m21/KnottedYet/DSCN0337.jpg
At my house it is dumping huge wet sloppy flakes. They are sticking, but not well. We have maybe 2 or 3 inches, but it's so warm they are pretty much melting into the ground.
Sknot is hoping for a snow-day tomorrow. We're gonna put up the (fake) tree this evening. After we clean the house...
(oh, yeah, our holiday tradition? Vacuuming! Shoving stuff aside so we can find a place to put the tree! Bending the wire branches so they look semi real! And squirting Crabtree and Evelyn Christmas oil around so it smells like Christmas/Saturnalia.)
Gotta get rolling on my cards. I think I'll do a watercolor, a bike with a tree on the back rack, which idea I freely admit I stole from the cards Terry Bicycles sells. I'll either do watercolor or Pigma pens. Last year was Pigma pen strings of xmas lights. Kinda boring by the time you've drawn the 30th card...

Did you ever notice how old ladies all have the same haircut? Is it like one day you walk in the salon, and the hairdresser says, "Oh, I see that you're 70 years old now. You're getting short hair and a perm today"?

Yes, i have noticed that. I have also discovered that little by little MY hair is too crummy to grow out. I used to have hair down my back.. now.. well,
it's just a little longer than the old lady look. (my 55 birthday is in a couple days... i'll be bald by the time i'm 80)

I'm here, too. But I'm bouncing around doing laundry and dishes and trying to get the house cleaned.
Love my wool long underwear. Sknot just informed me he lost his. Greeeeeeeat. This kid is already going without a coat because he lost 6 (count 'em SIX) coats last year and now has to buy his own. Gameboy cartridges are more important to him. Can't be bothered to use his money on a coat. So, now he's cold. Tough.
Oughta make 'im buy another set of wooly longies, too....
Grump grump grump.
Edit: HAH! He just informed me he wants wool longies and a new coat for xmas! Can't get around it that way, boy! But 10/10 for effort...
I'm jealous of the snow. Popoki_Nui posted some nice snowy pictures (today's ride thread) from Victoria - including a bike leaning against a snow(wo)man. And now Knotted's pic.
This morning I baked a very nice loaf of pumpkin bread with pecans.
Still enjoying my cranberry-orange relish from Thanksgiving. Very simple recipe: one 12-oz pkg of fresh cranberries and one whole orange cut in 1/12ths chopped together in food processor. Add sugar to taste (1/2 - 3/4 cup). Let sit in fridge overnight.
Leaving in 30 minutes to drive my son back to college, a 3 hour round trip. Could have left an hour ago if he'd done his laundry sooner.
