Lise & TE TD, are CWR bears the emergency bears?

Nanci

Mr. Toad is to rub mice on to make them smell like toads. It didn't work with a frozen mouse. now I am trying a live mouse...Mr. Toad is very funny. He is in with the torts. He sits on top of a hollow log and basks under the heat lamp. He sleeps inside a hollow log. He loves to sit in his water dish. He is very smart. Since that viv he's in doesn't have a top, I couldn't feed him crickets in there, so I put the crickets in a plastic feeding container (like the snakes have) and put Mr. Toad in there, and he immediately had a feast! he's going in again tonight. (I'd put him in now, but he's soaking in his dish, and I don't want the cricket container to get wet.)

I bought two ornamental grasses and a lavender at the garden shop, and four solar pathway lights. I hope they work. I am going to have the prettiest footpath/tort grazing area in history.

Wow, you ladies have been prolific. I miss most of the activity, since I do need my sleep.

Lise- I am so glad you and J had a wonderful weekend and that he passed the family test. :)

Nanci-Welcome back to TE TD! Does Inez arrive on the 8th?
Has Choco taken to eating yet? I have been worried about him. Please take a pic of the tort area when you are finished decorating.

Dar, he's pretty hot, except for the hat :-) But is he the guy you checked out that had financial problems?

BMO3, Choco is the perfect eater. It's Addy that I haven't gotten to eat yet. And Maizey went through a change after not eating for six weeks to fresh-killed, not frozen. Which is a pain, but not that much. I've down-sized her to one adult every 10-14 days. She is going along ok on that schedule. Choco eats every five days. Inez arrives the 8th, and has been fed fresh-killed, but I want to switch her to frozen. I have to see how big she is.

Nanci, I agree on the hat - that was my first observation:) This isn't the guy that was in financial trouble (Italian guy). This guy has an internet music busniess and does some publicity stuff on the side, never married, no kids, 1 dog and moved up here from Chicago. Used to play guitar in a band and likes heavy metal (I will have to work with that), great sense of humor, Christian and a sarcastic side. So far, my kind of guy!

Concerts? I am so lame here - John Altenburgh (jazz) Christmas concert. It was awesome and I'm going again this year.

Snap, the hat itself doesn't bother me, it's how he's wearing it. If you're gonna wear a baseball hat, put in on your head (not sitting high up) and for crying out loud, bend the bill!

Our Indian summer is here. In the 50's today and peaking around 60 by Wednesday. Then back to the cold crap so I need to get out and enjoy it for lunch the next couple of days. Now, if the sun would come out - is that too much to ask for?

Here's some more FROG info for you. Here's my friend S. who I have the hots for. There's chemistry there but we're holding back. Not sure why, hehe, but we do live 3 hours apart. He's the one on the left. He did an Ironman a few years ago, has run the Chicago marathon a couple times and still does tri's and bike tours (I met him on a bike tour). He just found out that he needs a heart valve replacement! So he'll be having surgery shortly. It just blows me away...oh yeah, he's a pilot on the side...all 6'2 hunky inches (and I prefer brunettes, but he just gets my blood pumping)

Dr. "Kill Independent Jennifer" 's nurse just phoned. :(

Here is the lovely, albeit brief dialogue:

Dr. KIJ requested I follow up with you to make certain you understand and are complying with his instructions.

Yeah, for the most part.

You are taking the Coumadin recently prescribed?

Yes

You are not drinking alcohol?

No (I may have said that in a snotty way)

You are taking your CCB?

Yes

No driving?

No driving, I just luuuuuve being freaking stuck at home (last part was thought in my head).

No intense aerobic activity?

How would you define intense?

Nothing more than walking.

Ummmm, I am running every day.

Running?????? (Huge sigh on her part and I can hear her writing)

He did not say I could not run. (okay,I was probably a tad devensive here)

Well ma'am (I hate ma'am) your tests indicate no heavy aerobic activity.

I have not been told my tests results.

You will be discussing those with Dr. KIJ on Dec 22nd.

Then the results cannot be too serious, until I hear otherwise from Dr. KIJ, I will be running.

It is not advised.

Noted.

(at this point she mumbled something and scribbled something about going against medical advice and hung up).

Lise, hope we're not offending you with our IL humor!
Not possible. We are FIBs. And you are Cheeseheads. You can't help it. Neither can we. :p He is awfully cute. Keep us posted!

Jennifer/B3--the nurse is just scared you'll trip, fall, and bleed too much while running and that her name will be on the chart when you sue them for what happened when you did what they told you not to do. I'm sure it went something like, "I'm documenting that we told you not to...xyz." But you can't know why until Dec 22? That's bogus. I'd say, "If he wants me not to run, I'll need an appointment this week to discuss those test results."

Nanci, the tort grazing area sounds amazing! How do you keep track of the animal's feeds, etc? Do you have a chart, or keep a journal of it? How's the BF doing post-IM?

Tonight, the three hour tour. That is to say, staff meeting. In which my colleagues need to be "heard". Harmph. Where's the "just plain grumpy" icon? I've got my fingers crossed for "let's hold it to three hours, seriously, people!"

Nice whale, CWR.

I personally find my next neurology appt to be appropriate. Perfect timing to kill my holiday spirit.
Dr. KIJ, pretty much told me all I needed to know after the MRIs -with and without thank you. No bleed, so Dr KIJ was looking for clots and ordered the ban on having fun and the added bonus of a CCB.
The second or was it third (?) round of tests were to detect clots. I *assume* something was discovered. Why do I assume this? Two day later some very board person from the neurology dept at the hospital ask where she could phone in my script for coumadin-yippee another medication (we need a sarcastic smilie).
So, I am in no hurry to see Dr. KIJ again. Each time brings more medication, although I did recieve a lovely magazine today called, Stroke Smart AND an invitation to a seminar/workshop on improving my motor skills. Whoo Hoo. (Again I find I am in need of a sarcastic smilie).

What's a FIB???

I know what a Cheesehead is, of course, being from MN.

I forgot to include in my trip report that we visited the Seabreeze Winery in Panama City Beach, and bought a case of all-Florida wine, (2 each of 2 reds, 3 whites, and blueberry, at $9.50/bottle - 15%!) and a take-home frozen ziplock bag of wine slushy! What a great idea!

My solar lights were cool while they lasted. Can't wait to see them tomorrow after a full charge.

I hate how it gets dark so early. At least the torts got to go out and graze while I was gardening.

Hey, Knot!! I too have cleaver love. I bought my first one when I learned to cook Chinese, but I almost never use any other knife now. One cheapy and two almost cheapies have lasted me my entire adult life until a few weeks ago when I treated myself to a very nice Henkels. (Yes, I know I often complain of near-death broke-ness, but this was on my JC Penney charge!) I especially like it for prepping chicken, where you can slice the breast into thinner whole pieces, like two or three times (help me, X, it would be sagittally in CT terminology!) and then into very thin strips. Can't do that with a regular knife. I find other knives very awkward. You can't pick anything up with them!

Do you know Ebert & Roper (well, the replacement for the one of them that is sick) gave Jackass Two two thumbs up??? I want to go see it again. We saw Saw 2. Too predictable.

I miss Steve Irwin.

same the reason why i hate the vikings and da bears. i don't know how it started, but it is the way it is.

The rivalry's gone on forever... Here's a blip from wikipedia on the Championships (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Bay_Packers#Championships) part of the rivalry...

and this from Wikipedia:
The Packers and the Chicago Bears have played each other more times than any other two teams in the NFL, and thus are often mistakenly credited as having the oldest rivalry in the league. The crosstown rival Decatur Staleys/Chicago Staleys/Chicago Bears and Racine Normals/Racine/Chicago/St. Louis/Arizona Cardinals, the two last existing charter members of the NFL, played each other twice in 1920, a year before the Packers entered the league. However, the Packers and the Bears have played each other many more times than any other 2 NFL teams and thus, while not the oldest rivalry in the league, it is the most storied.

Not much info on the Vicks... sorry. :D

I hope she didn't get eaten by a bear or something... :(

Come to think of it, a bear's the least l-*claps hand over face and talks into hand for a second* She's probably fine.

EEEhhehehehe so last night I managed to tell "el Hefe, the Boss, the Grand Poo-bah of Security" etc etc, my mgr I wanted to "hang out with him after I stopped working here" and I'm not sure why he was so surprised... but annnyway, we're going to go mtbing some weekend soon. I'm all giddy excited. I haven't been mtbing with a friend in a long time. Long time. He's a novice, though. "Novice" as in:
Me: "So... what kind of bike do you have?"
Him: "Ah... a schwinn with the spring-y on the front..."
Me: We're going to have a lot of fun, Mr. Man. *naughty smile, more because I'll pwn him than because I'm really naughty that way...*

Where's the devil-mit-horns smilie? I promise, ladies, I won't hurt him too bad... ;)

What's a FIB???
F*cking Illinois Bastard.

Can you believe they call us that, Nanci?
And all we call them is Cheeseheads. ~sniff~ :p

Yea for Addy and Mr. Toad! I am so glad to learn of Mr. Toad's true purpose. I thought the plan was to feed him to a snake, and I didn't want to get too attached to him.

Kitsune06

:o Yes, ma'am.

Lise- My Dad said "FIB" One too many times in front of his impressionable, maybe 5yo daughter once, so she asked what it meant.

"Funny Illinois Boys" was his reply. I can never see the abbrevreation without thinking of his definition. :D So maybe it's not all bad. :)

Not feeling well tonight (well, all day) so this will be short.

Glad the snake finally ate, Nanci. Steve Vai is a 7-string-guitar-god in my book. (he designs his own axes) I can barely make 6 sound good most days.
Keep runnin' if it makes ya feel good, BMo3. Just pleeeease don't push too hard until you get the rest of the story.
Remember, rednecks are people too. (got a whole family of 'em)
Gotta say, the trucker hat thing is messed up. It needs more than just a roll on the brim. Get him a real hat that hugs the scalp better. Anyway, it's not the looks but what's inside the hat that counts.
CWR, just how many filet-o-fish sandwiches can ya get outta that mutha? Glad it was dead, looked big enough to eat you. BTW, I accept halibut steaks as x-mas gifts. Just thought you should know.
Kit, be nice to the guy. Afterall, he's already losing you. How much do ya think one person can take?

Well, that took it all outta me. I just wanna lay here and breathe now. (BTW, anybody got a spare pancreas lying around? I think I puked mine out earlier. That can't be good for the glucose levels.) Just gonna read some threads for a little while and knock out for the night. I've got an early shift tomorrow.

Take care, TD.

Nanci - glad to hear that Addy ate! But it's pretty funny to picture you rubbing the mouse all over the toad first. Strange critters - glad you know so much about them.

I was really happy the first time I actually saw our toad eat a cricket. Pretty cool to watch but then I'm a neophyte in raising amphibians. Do you have any idea how many crickets a day I should feed a toad? I keep dumping in 3-4 and he has eaten them all the next time I look in there. Maybe it's not enough? He's about 2 inches long, about 1 1/2 inches wide (if my memory serves be correctly...) My kids would spend hours watching him if I let them. Too bad frogs/toads aren't in the grade 3 curriculum - not that it stops me :)

BMO3 - You are a pretty amazing woman to take all of this health stuff with such a positive attitude. People could learn a lot from you - I'm sure your boys do. You're too young to have to deal with it - hugs to you....

::::::taking deep breath before diving in::::::::::

10 pages since I lasted checked in. Wow. Prolific writing for sure. I guess I don't mind missing the binary talk. Wouldn't get it anyway. Or car talk. Still, it's all fun to read!

Lise, so happy for you! That J is a lucky guy! And it sounds like he knows it. Even better. I hope he deserves you!

Dar + Mr. Fisherman w/Hat is rather gorgeous. A suggestion...Take the hat off him, THEN kiss him till he forgets about fishing......and hats.......

Kit and X -- all that medical talk is way beyond me.

You have the most interesting pets, Nanci! Love the feeding stories, especially when it all works out and they actually eat.

BMo3. Good on you! Did they tell you NOT to run? No. And you can do it. Believe in your knowledge of your body. You are living in it. They are not.

Warning! Warning! Whining ahead!
PAGES back, someone (CC?) asked me how my DH's campaign was going. (Thanks for asking!) From such a close vantage point, I honestly don't know. It will be close. It will all be over by this time tomorrow. Life will go on, I hope, more normally than the past few months. He has let his life be consumed by campaigning and politics. I have strived for balance. (God bless the bike!)
I've pretty much had to take over everything at home. Plus work my normal 40 hour week. And get in what biking/exercise was possible. So I am just plain tired. I stay up late and I get up early. No other way to find the time to do/be what is needed. And all with no thanks/recognition from spouse. Or so it seems. :( Like I said, I am tired. So is he. Whining and crying is not me. I just want it to be over and done and get on my bike and ride away for a long time. I won't. I just want to. Being a responsible adult su*ks sometimes! Ok, I'm done. Thanks, TE TD, for letting me vent a little.

So if you IL TE'ers are FIB, and the WI TE're are Cheeseheads, I have to ask-- what are IA TE'ers? We are neighbors, ya know. Don't we rate some sort of familiar nickname?? :p

Can't sleep tonight. I may have to pop the cork on a nice bottle of red wine.
Anyone want to join me? It's an Italian-Style Red from CA. let you know if it's worth the price of the bottle.........

Not so sure about IA folks having a nickname. To the best of my knowledge, most of the 'rivalry' is with IL and WI... 'cuz they "drink our beer and shoot our deer" ... :eyeroll: Boys. Ugh.

What didja mean about my medical speak? I take it you meant Nanci and X?

Kelo- How much to feed a toad: Probably 10 a day? I feed mine till he stops- so I buy 24 crickets (large- but those chirp) and put him in a container and he just eats. If you put the crickets in with the toad- I'd just put in a large amount- like a couple dozen, and then restock when you don't hear chirping/see crickets. They eat a lot. I have to feed the crickets, too- these little orange cubes http://tinyurl.com/y5z49b - one bottle lasts a long time. Like a year or longer. I put in two-four at a time.

Lise- that's awful what FIB stands for!! Mr. Toad is my friend- I could never feed him to Addy. That was the whole deal when I got him- he would someday be set free unharmed, except maybe his dignity.

Iowa- Do you know why there are no cheerleaders in Iowa? They can't keep them from grazing at halftime! (MN joke)

Trek420- you might want to try chicken broth or tuna to scent your taco next time- it's a little less drastic, especially if you are out in company.

The long-term plan for Addy is to gradually wean her off the toad scent, _after_ I have her eating reliably, and switch over to frozen mice. I'm not that crazy about the live thing, but if that's what it takes for now, I'll do it. They actually make "fake" sausage things for snakes to eat- but they are made out of mice anyway.

Yay! Work one day, off the next! Should be getting an e-mail any time with Inez's tracking number. Snake on a plane!!

roll frozen mouse sausage in beaten egg
dust with bread crumbs
roll breaded mouse on frog.
feed to fussy snake.

Reminds me of .... I think they are called Risos? You take little baby mozzarella, encase that it in a little ball of aroborio rice (fully cooked), roll that in home made marinela, then bread crumbs, optional dusting of parm...bake, enjoy. :)

I'll try chicken broth or tuna on my mouse next time, especially if I'm with company.

Annie, good luck to dh today - hope all goes well. And to the best of my vast judgmental knowledge about petty thangs, people from Iowa are referred to as Iowegins (I-Ah-We-Gins) here. Hope you had some wine for me - I like the reds.

Nanci, I thought of you today as I got to work. Turned the corner to head up to my office and saw a mouse! Poor thing. Looks like it had rat poison for bfast cuz it wasn't moving too well. He has been disposed of....And it was the obnoxious people from Chicago that landed the term FIBS - the rest are flatlanders. Of course, it could have something to do with the fact that 90% of the ones spotted in WI have vanity plates and drive at least 20 mph over the speed limit:p

Margo, I've been pondering the question "how old is Kit really? I'm thinking the hole has a bit of mesh in it for her but she's not working too hard on darning it....

Weasel, you know I love ya Hon and I'm just teasing ya! I am very proud of you and the fish you caught! My new pants are due in today - can't wait to try them on!

X - hope you're feeling better Hon!

*calling* Cy-cl! Now don't be throwing me under the bus Missy! Sounds to me like you're trying to instigate a little sumpin' sumpin'. And just for you, I'll give you the juicy details. Assuming there are any of course;)

Trek, what month was that on the fishing calandar?? I still can't get that picture out of my head *shakes head*.

The things you learn when you commute 2.5 hours to a 7-10 pm meeting:

1) One 6-inch chicken parm sandwich for dinner still leaves ya hungry. Good thing someone brought cake to the meeting. Had to eat 2 pieces before I was full. (I normally wouldn't full up on cake and don't even like sweets that much, but when you're hungry, YOU'RE HUNGRY).

2) All the cheap motels in Lanesboro, MA are closed by 10:00 pm. Grrr. [Note to owners of cheap motels: people who are awake after 10 pm really would like to sleep somewhere.] Had to drive 20 minutes to find a cheap motel with an office that was unlocked and a person who heard the "please ring bell for assistance".

3) Two Clif Bars for breakfast doesn't fill ya up, especially when you eat one of them at 3 am. Well, driving hungry does keep ya awake, though the mental stimulation gets pretty rote (stomache: "hey brain, there's a big hole down here. toss something in, will ya." brain: "hey, be patient, I've got nothing to toss in." stomache: "well find something. I can't wait all day." brain: "I'm thinking about food. does that help?" stomach: "no it doesn't. find food.") The best intentions of heading straight to the polls and the office were overridden by Mr. Stomache so we stopped at home (all 3 of us, brain, stomache, and me) to eat a yam and a chicken sausage at 8 am.

Hey, Knot. I was thinking about chicken stew. I now I find out you were working and not cooking chicken stew for me for breakfast. Maybe next time I should take a mousetrap to said cheap motel and bring a toad for flavoring.

Now, now; don't jump to conclusions.
This is very tricky and exacting darning; not like your merino socks (or even your best black wool singlet, eh kiwi's?).
And there is no room for error - I mean Kitsune herself knows what can happen if the Fabric of Space/Time gets a hole in it.
Also seems like its "only" Kits that has "fallen" thru so far. (More evidence that she jumped on purpose of course)

Oh, yeah. I had one of those. Actually named Mario. I met him for coffee. Once. He was the very first guy from match when I went back on last fall. He is a triathlete, and I wasn't savvy enough yet to tune him out based on phone conversation. He greeted me by leaning in and trying to whisper in my ear. Whoa! I think not! 10 a day! Yikes. I put in my last 8 today and I think he ate them all. Had to go out and buy another batch of crickets. Bought 50 this time. I am going to go broke feeding this toad. If he eats as few as 50-60 in a week, it'll cost me $25 a month...

Edited to remove questions you've already answered... :) Note to self, read before you post...

Lise, do I get some sort of award if I start reading from the beginning and ever get to the end?

Voting today was definitely different. I got there at 5:45 p.m. after work and had to wait close to 40 minutes to vote. Some people were SOOOO slow. There's only like 7 races and two ballot questions; what on earth is taking so long? AND they have sample ballots hanging up so you can look at them while you were waiting. Dum dum dum dum

BUT, I will say I'd much rather have to wait in line to vote than go and have no one else there. And I thought the machine itself was very easy to use.

On the bright side, they had free coffee and were selling baked goods. On the bad side, I'm losing weight and I didn't have any money with me anyhow.

I have no life. I worked nights until this May, so I never see any of my friends anymore because of the schedule difference. And two of my closest friends moved to opposite ends of the country. And everyone at my new job is 30 years older than I.

Anyone got any cheese?

Oooh, I have cheese! And it's SOOOOO good!!!

I am on a diet and I ate a bunch 'o sushi after work so decided to skip dinner - wasn't too hungry. I sat with hubby and son while they ate and polished off two glasses of of my favourite french merlot and decided to add some of that delish 4 year aged white cheddar that I picked up last weekend. Yummy... However, now I've had too much wine, on an empty stomach, and may never get my marking done tonight... Sigh.... Life is good none-the-less....

Kitsune06
11-07-2006, 05:39 PM
Heh. sorry, no cheese. I haven't really hung out with friends who weren't online in ...uh... yeah. Too long. Pretty soon I won't have anywhere near compatible hours with DGF (next monday already? Jeebus.) so it looks even worse. *sigh* you know what? I don't even feel like talking about it. :(
Yay, I get better hours and more money, at the cost of yet more time with my DG. freakin fantastic.

I guess on the up-side, Gebo is getting so much cuddly attention now and since he's maturing he's getting a little more mellow so he'll sit in my lap... he's getting to be like a little dog or something. He'll run over to see me, lick my hand all over while I'm petting him, curl up in my lap (or on his back, so he looks dead aside from foot-twitches) and let me pet him for awhile... I never thought rats were capable of such affection. I guess everything has an upside.

How you do ladies explain internet "friends" to people IRL? I have a very close group of "friends" who I have corresponded with for almost 10 years. We were all pregnant with babies who were due in December 1997 and we were posting on a December 1997 website. Later, after our babies were born, about 15 of us broke off from the group and started a private email list. Our "babies" are now turing 9 this December and we're still close and emailing regularly. It's a strange relationship that's difficult to explain to other people but I think it is just as valid as my real life friendships. I have met three of them and everyone has met someone on the list, but most of them live far from me and we may never meet. Who knows. I still think it's kinda cool that some of may still be in contact when the kiddos graduate...

kelownagirl "How you do ladies explain internet "friends" to people IRL?"

Mostly I don't.

I'm a member of a few bulletin boards, my bike clubs board, an Aikido site, one board for women who bat for the other team . These I just share information: ride schedules, workshops, events, who's promoting up a Dan rank...then there's TE.

Even my Mom (who at 85 uses the internet to rabble rouse and change the world one e-mail at a time like Lise and her babies :p ) knows that this is somehow different "oh, someone from that board".

I've never hesitated to just go on a ride organised here, when Spazzdog first came to the Bay area for a visit I simply said if she could stand the clutter .... come on down.

We'd never met, I don't think we'd even talked. Just went and picked her up at the airport.

This board is different, smarter, funnier, warmer people I have never met.

Even the TE guys our TE gals have....a cut above the rest :D I'm not saying theres no one here who'd steal my kidneys but I'd really be surprised at that....a more fabulous bunch you won't find. Long live TE TD.

Is *that* why the police box is still in my living room? I mean.. er... how'd that get there? What is it? :D

The TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) was/is a British *telephone* box. From the early-mid 1960's BBC series Dr Who.
No wonder Fredwina and Kits are talking so confused - theoretically Kits should know nothing about it.
Star Trek (TOS) hadn't even been thought of then. (Just to give you Americans something to relate to)

You are trying to distract us from the Real Issue.
It won't work, you know.

Now, now, Dar, remain calm. ;) The mass email was when I started dating J. Before that it was just posts about upcoming dates and how they went. Dinner with J, brother, and brother's co-worker went great. I did have a moment of thinking, "I'm sitting here with three straight men, one of whom I'm dating, and I feel completely at ease." How the world turns. Now I've met both his brother and sister, and they are both nice, funny, and relaxed. The brother is quite a cyclist! He owns seven bikes! Latest is a "Moots" (?) handbuilt in Colorado, of titanium. Also owns a Cervelo time trial bike. I drool (fortunately not literally) when I hear the word "Cervelo". He said, "Now if only I were any good at time trial." I replied, "I know. If only I were worthy of my bike, right?" :p The man endeared himself to me by asking two things: What got you into catching babies? and What distance triathlons do you do? :D Happy girl.

You new girls to TD realize there is a quiz at the end, right?

I bought a PDA today - a Palm TX. I found one that had been used at a trade show, technically used, but still with all accessories and box - for $100 off the regular price. Now maybe I'll stop missing my appointments - providing I figure out how to work the thing, and make it talk to my Outlook calendar at work.

We had a emergency drill at work today. The scenario was a terrorist bombing at Moffett Field, with radiation cloud fun thrown in. We'd get little email updates with THIS IS A DRILL plastered across the top.

I would die without my Palm. I read the New York Times on it on the way in to work every morning. (avantgo.com, snap) My debit card records are in it- like a checkbook register. My Wine Enthusiast software, and my cellar records. My diet software, Calorie King Diet Diary, which I was religious about for over a year before I- I don't know what happened, but you can clearly see the results of not caring. I use HanDBase for all kinds of databases- triathlon/cycling events, vet records, continuing education, blood donation...I use a program called BugMe! to write notes. My DSL went out last night at 2:00 AM, so then I finished this really good book of short stories, Reasons To Live, and then I had nightmares about people breaking into my house to kill me and then going swimming with people I was afraid of and realizing at 2:30 PM that I had missed the UPS guy that had Inez.

Inez didn't leave Colorado till 9:30 last night! She got to Kentucky at 2AM and spent two and a half hours there, (maybe she got to check out the new IM KY site) and then left for Jacksonville, FL, (90 minutes NE of here), arriving at 6:23 and leaving quickly at 6:48, on her way to Gainesville. I imagine she should check in and out of Gainesville around 9 AM- then who knows how long it will take her to get a ride here- 15 minutes from the UPS hub.

I hate being home alone at night. Maybe I will bring my pepper spray in from the truck.

I used to have the use of a shotgun and I felt very safe at that time. Maybe I need a replacement.

Someone tried to break into our house about a year ago. They didn't get in, though they tried both doors. My back door edge was bent to sh*t, but the deadbolt held long enough for the person to give up. Oh- I don't live in a "real" house, I'm in a trailer- so you can imagine the security issues...(But my house payment is super cheap, and I live on gorgeous land, five acres, which has quadrupled in value since I bought it) But anyway, I think the neighbor's barking dogs scared off the person, and it happened after we left for work, while it was still dark out. I was scared sh*tless for months. I put wooden bars on the windows so they couldn't be opened without breaking, put motion detectors outside that go off if there is anyone walking around anywhere, put motion detectors in the house that absolutely SCREAM if anyone comes in- you couldn't even stand to be in the house- bought a lock for the front gate, put up Beware Of Dog signs. Put the outside lights on phototimers, bought timers for inside lights. I think it helps always having either the squad car or the pickup here- at a minimum. Then BF and I worked out this whole defense plan of what to do if I heard someone out there and he wasn't home, involving the shotgun- where to go, etc. Florida has a newish law that no longer requires a homeowner to retreat before shooting- you only have to be in fear for your life (and this applies to personal vehicles, too) which, trust me, if someone came in my house, I would be in fear for my life. The only thing that worried me was that Maizey's viv (and now the torts') is in the spread pattern, so, what, "Wait a minute before I shoot you, I have to move my snake..." Anyway- I'm less fearful than right after it happened, but still can't sleep and have nightmares if I do fall asleep.

The brother has a MOOTS??? Wow. They make very nice components as well as custom bikes- and they used to have a catch phrase something like "Moots is like jewelry for your bike." Every other bike at IM FL was a Cervelo, mostly P3s. Where does everyone get the money?

Glad you liked the brother.

X- yow, did it ever heal? I broke just my little fibula (like a spiral shattered deal) (thanks to a stupid horse) and it took _months_ to form any new bone. Could you walk pretty normally with that, like that?

How did you enjoy "Thank You for Smoking'?

I've only really had food poisoning once. I was on my way to NZ (after living in Japan) via Thailand/Cambodia/Philippines and ate poorly cooked chicken in Bangkok from a roadside stall. Long story short, it was thier new year, could not get away from area I was staying & had to eat something. I just about missed my flight the next day. Not only that but the airline staff were a bit unsure of my NZ residency status but let me fly anyways.

I'd send ya flowers, but apparently you already have some. So, how old are ya anyway, like 80? :D Yeah, yeah, I know, 34. Your just a young pup. (and by definition, that kinda makes me a young pup too. Yea!)

Nanci - Sorry about last night. Hope everything is ok now.
Oh yeah, I walk just fine now Nanci but I'm just a little short on that side. Over the years, my fib didn't heal correctly where they took the grafts so I have to have it rebroke and a plate/screws done soon. It's very painful even though we don't put much weight on it. Mostly when I lay left lateral. It pulls against the tendons and tweaks the bone. Movement in the body of a bone isn't a good thing. :( I put it off for school but no more excuses now. (the bike isn't a good enough reason for the doc  ) Also, I need to break the 4th MT just proximal to the MTP joint in the left foot, move it anteriorly and pin it, as it and the toe are both falling out the bottom of my foot. Very painful to walk on. Will get both done at the same time so less cast/recovery time. Amazingly, I still have my original arch though which helps tremendously.
I'm trying to schedule the surgery soon so I can still go on my spring bike vacation that the TE ladies are helping me out with. Even if I have to rent a scooter, I'm going. Ok, maybe a motorcycle, scooters are too cutesy for me. Sorry scooter riders but if I'm motoring, I want something that vibrates, growls and has some serious kick. I may just go somewhere for a week to rest and recoup while still in the cast too. Good thing I'm an expert on crutches or this all might slow me down a bit.

Lise - I'm so glad that J's family is as cool as him. It's nice that you felt at ease with a bunch of guys after 'everything'. I know how that can be. ;) Just two questions, what style of baseball cap does he wear and how does he roll his brim?

Wait for it, wait for it.......... Duck! *Crash!*

(Oh, c'mon Dar, ya know it's funny! :D)

Gotta get outta here early to take care of something very important and urgent. See y'all later.

X.

I think broken bones have the potential to hurt forever. My fib can still hurt as much as the day it happened, 12 years later, and it has a huge nice bridge of bone holding it together now. Any weather change sets it off.

Yeah, you don't want to have a leg length discrepancy (I'm too lazy to m-w that for correct spelling, so I will just hope for the best...) for long or it will cause problems in other places. BF claims to have one, but I want to see films. Unfortunately, we don't have a ruler in my dept- it's out at the ortho center.

What spring bike vacation?

Of course I can't see her because she has hidden herself away. She actually would normally have much broader red areas and cleaner, smaller black bands, but she is "aberrant" which is what attracted me to her.

http://tinyurl.com/ym4yd7 That's what a normal Nelson's looks like.

I wish she'd come back out! She even has a shed skin in her deli cup, but I am going to be good and not mess with any of her stuff. It's important to keep her cup for her to feed in later. If she is nervous, she will smell the cup and it will be familiar territory to her, so she will be more likely to eat in it.

I don't need another problem feeder.

Beautiful beautiful snake, Nanci! How big is she?
I remember the old saying "Red to yellow Kill a fellow//Red to black venom lack" that was in case you ran into a deadly coral snake in the woods and weren't sure.

I don't think Mr. Toad will be wolfing down unlimited crickets forever- he'll get pretty full and want a break after a while I'd think- especially if he needs to shed his skin after eating 5000 crickets!

When was the last time your "finicky" snake had a mouse/meal?

Nanci
11-08-2006, 10:50 AM
I'm still in my pajamas...I think I am going to get dressed and go to Home Depot- I have a $50 reward card burning a hole in my pjs. Either mulch for the garage tree, or more weird paving stones to expand the cool tortoise walk, or a tree, or some sort of bricks to make a wall to contain torts, and for sure something to make a hibernaculum pile for Fagalo, because he's going....going....digging practice holes....getting very sleepy...

Nanci
11-08-2006, 11:33 AM
Lisa, the only time I found a coral snake I couldn't remember the dang saying! All I could think of was "Black and Yellow, Black and Yellow" and couldn't come up with what rhymed with that, because it actually wasn't part of the saying, and the snake _did_ have black and yellow, as do the non-venomous versions...

Addy, the Hognose, has never eaten. I thought she ate a mouse two nights ago, but found it rotting, buried, yesterday. I'm very disappointed. But will keep trying. I weigh her regularly to keep an eye on her weight. Maizey, who went through a feeding slow down, and didn't eat at all for six weeks, is back to a regular schedule of one mouse every 10-14 days rather than every seven, but it has to be freshly killed (by the snake shop guy) not frozen/thawed. Choco eats when he is told, always, quickly, with no problems, frozen/thawed. He has recently graduated up one meal size. Inez is an unknown quantity, but she has been eating either fresh killed or live pinky mice. I will be able to offer her first meal in a week.

She seems to be about Choco's size, about 18 inches, but they look so much smaller. She hasn't come out of hiding. I took her shed skin out of her deli cup to look at.

On the snake forum, there is a guy who bought a python baby in June, which had eaten _one time_ since then, till he posted last week that it ate again. They can go a long time, sometimes for no apparent reason. They really don't do much to burn calories. Addy weighs four grams less than when I got her. I am comfortable with that. She is still nice and round, with no spine to be seen. I will release her if/when she looks thin.

Screw tops huh! When I was planning my wedding (I lived in SF Bay Area, California at the time), my brother in law and I went to Canned Foods store to get wine to taste for the wedding. They sell wines (some cheap, some not so cheap) where the label was misapplied or something like that. Well, we brought back a whole bunch of wines to taste and some of them had screw tops. My sister, my bro in law, me and my soon to be hubby were all sitting around the table getting ready to taste wines and hubby gets this horribly distasteful look on his face and says something to the effect of "over my dead body are we serving screw top wines at my wedding". (He is a native, born in Oakland, Californian.)

So, being the nice folk that we are, we decided that we would not buy any screw top wine for the wedding reception. HOWEVER, we just couldn't resist when we went to the store the week before the wedding. We bought some generic Beer. NOW, this is back in the day when generic beer came in these really BRIGHT YELLOW LETTERED CANS that say GENERIC BEER! So, we put the yellow generic beer right on top of the iced down beer bucket and had Mark (hubby) step out onto the deck where we were serving the liquor! We have the best disgruntled photograph of Mark staring at the yellow cans in total shock!

We still give him a hard time about screw top wines!

Hi (waving) to all the rest of you great TD ladies! It's been a little busy and I had a lot of TD to catch up on so I know I have missed some stories. Now if Kit would only get her Clif Notes version finalized...

BMo3 - Wow I read your dialogue with the nurse - these people! I had to just shake my head. Please take care of yourself. That's the most important thing. But you're right - why would they not see you before 12/21 if it were something so serious you shouldn't run?? Can you maybe call your doctor and talk to him/her?? I didn't know you were on coumadin, but it makes sense. Are you having regular protime tests? Where do they want your INR?? How much are you taking?

I cannot get past Dr. KIJ's nurse. But I guess I need to phone her tomorrow to ask her some questions about my coumadin. I am on 2mg right now and was told to come in for a Prothrombin Time test. Apparently this will let them know if my doseage is correct or if they need to up it. I have no clue what my clotting time should be, so I need to ask questions. Sounds silly that I have not as of yet, but I am mainly working in a state of total denial.

whew! what a crazy day at work! pardon while I vent, as I think I spent the last 10 hours typing, and doing nothing else. And I had planned on call my hairstylist and changing an appointment, since I figured it's bit further over to Tucson than I thought. Maybe I'll let it grow.. Or maybe I'll stay here. After my experiences this summer, I'm still a little leery of group riding, much less with 8,000 other folks  at least I didn't have to ride the train back with the rubber band eating lady who was off her psych meds. beats driving

Vent alert!

BMo3 - I agree with Nanci on them holding your results from you. You have every right to know what's going on with your own body - right now. They are your results, not theirs.
I'm in an instant gratification type of medical field so we give results right then for stats or by the very next morning for regular cases. I always tell my patients to call their ordering doc the very next day before lunch to get their results.
That bull she gave you over the phone would not fly with me. I'd be in there personally looking her right in the eye ASAP. I have no problem with confrontation when it comes to a-holes. Don't let her mess with ya, BMo3.

Alright, I gotta go calm down now. I probably shouldn't be posting tonight anyway, I'm kinda in a funk. Sorry. Bummed out from some sad things at work. Can't get them out of my head. :( I haven't formed my hard shell yet, I guess. Kinda hope I never do but it does make it difficult to sleep sometimes. (sigh)
Geez, I really need a massage and some TLC tonight. **looks around at an empty house... Again.** Guess I've gotta settle for a glass of wine and some catching up on old TD posts instead. Cheers!

Anyway, thanks for not freaking at my pics. All of you ladies have made me feel more normal than I have in along time. Around here, I get a bunch of horrified looks.
I gotta admit, it is fun to scare little kids on the beach with shark attack stories. (just kidding, I only did that once)
You Aussies are the best. Did you know that when our docs are asleep, we send our emergency x-rays, CT's, MRI's, etc to your docs to be read. Y'all save American lives everyday over there. It's called Night Hawk and our hospitals use it all the time. Helps control costs too so we don't have to pay radiologists to hang out all night long. We do the same back for you guys too.
Just wanted to say that I really do enjoy reading your posts. Sorry you've got no one to ramble on with in the middle of our night. I wish our times weren't so different.

G'night CC. See ya tomorrow!!

Nanci, I forgot to tell you I thought of you while watching "Border Security" on tv last night. Some freaks tried to smuggle 47 shingleback lizards and one turtle through the mail. The lizards were stuffed in socks and the turtle in a handbag. I felt so sorry for the animals.

I was supposed to do a bike ride today but I woke up late(planned) and was then told the security system installers were coming and I had to be home. I think i'll make this my non go nutty biking day. Tomorrow I am going running, pedicure/manicure, 46km off road ride with a bunch of friends. Saturday another mtn bike ride. BMom3, any chance you can get a different neurologist/second opinion? Seems to me that it's really outrageous to expect you to wait so long, and their office sounds pretty damn rude. I know it's a pain in the butt to try that, but it might be worth it.

MP, how's PP doing? She looks quite a lot like you in the chocolate factory pics. Wonder how FishJr's doing and how the bees are.

The Beeper is home from critical care and we have to give her subcutaneous fluids every other night. BIG needle, takes several minutes to get the fluids all in. First time was Friday night and I was terrified. It worked fine, though. I cried just a little bit afterwards. Ugh. But she really is quite a bit better. She's 16, and only has about 25% kidney function left, but she is better enough to be purring again, bonking heads, demanding attention, and Siamese-yelling a lot. Thanks for all the TD good wishes--for now, Beeper is back and beeping mightily away at us.

Hey there,

Ian & I went and saw "The Departed" and thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns throughout the film. I enjoy Martin Scorsese films however my favorite ones directed by him are "Godfather" and "Casino".

I still giggle at Donnie Whalberg on film, esp after seeing Boogie Nights. I have to tell you when i saw Boogie NIghts at the theatre, I was the only woman there. It was weird yet rather funny.

Leo Dicaprio's certainly still a handsome young man.

Salsa-no reese lately but don't really need any at the moment as I want to lose weight...I have 8kg's to lose..:(
The weather here hasn't been that hot-yet. So far this month it's been very humid but not too hot. It's a unclear about how our summer's going to be this year but I'm not looking forward to biking in 35c+ on my way home from work.

Salsabike,
we had to give the "water needles" to our beloved Maine coon kitty Pearl 3-4 times a week for a whole year and a half. She had almost died from kidney failure, but has now apparently totally recovered. Pretty miraculous...but then again she was only 5 years old and so she was able to bounce back. Just wanted to say I know the dreary fluid injection routine, and you have my sympathies. Is someone helping you hold her while you do it?- I couldn't have done it without DH holding Pearl steady.

Leo DiCaprio....hmmm. It just seems to me no matter how old he gets he still looks like a boy. Gave me the creeps in Titanic watching him make out, he looked like pedophile bait! Doesn't turn me on. I may show my age here by naming other male stars who had that boy/baby face look and wound up in their 40's looking like weird baby Yoda-gnomes: Davy Jones, Paul McCartney, David Cassidy, Mickey Rooney....anybody know of other examples of "boylymen"?

Thanks Salsa and to everyone else who wrote on here about my neurologist and his nurse. :) You ladies are wonderful! never change!! :D

Now, I shall attempt to clarify I few details I either left out or made muddled.

I have an excellent neurologist (if I did not think so, I would go elsewhere) and I thought I bored everyone with the earlier details, but maybe I did not.

-warning I am about to sum up my recent neurological "stuff" ignore at will-

In a nutshell, when I met with him to go over previous tests (had to wait about a month then as well), we discussed my past neurological history, he had consulted my previous neurologists and we came up with a plan. Basically, to attempt once again to cut down on the migraines with a CCB and aspirin therapy. I know I will stroke again, we just would like to make it as far into the future as possible. Having another TIA on Halloween was NOT good. Ugh. He did order more tests, but we discussed the possible scenarios of those tests prior to me having them. If he discovered a clot, he would place me on coumadin, which is what happened. Now I do not know where he found the clot, but I am on a low dose, so I assume that is good. The third test was an EEG to determine the amount of damage the stroke caused. Since the damage is done, waiting for the results is fine. I do not have any bleeds, which is excellent. :D
I am more ticked that I am supposed to stop doing everything. SO, when I wrote, I was probably harsh sounding/bitter. Seriously, staying home all day every day can get to person. ;)

I do run, but never alone. Not for fear of someone hurting me, but fear of a TIA/stroke/drop in BP. Either DH runs with me or my "coach", my oldest son.

MP-reminded me to get an ID. THANKS MP! She is 100% correct. Even though I do not run alone and we have a cell phone, neither my husband nor my son knows all the meds I am on and what dosages.

So, that is it in a nutshell. No swimming, no biking, and most definitely no driving. I assume they would prefer I not run, but I need to do something and until they actually give me a decent reason for not running, I shall continue.

I appreciate everyone's concerns. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{TD}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Salsa, sorry to hear about the drip for Beeper. I hope she gets better soon.

I once dated a guy that got his leg run over by a riding lawn mower, so he was missing part of his foot, a chuck of heel and calf. Aaahhhhhh, I need to vent. My daughter moved out with her boyfriend after she graduated. A couple years later, when that fell apart, she moved back home, living with her dad for a year. She got tired of him and moved in with me last spring while she attends school (she's 23 now). She has a part time job which pays for her car and social life so I don't charge her rent. She can eat here too if she wants (as long as she's going to school - no rent.) Anyway, I have two big dogs and an 8 year old son. My hubby and I both work full time and I don't do serious housework until Saturday. I know my house needs to be vacuumed more often but too bad. So, it's a busy, noisy, and sometimes cluttered place, with lots of dog hair - but we're a happy lot. :)

Back to the DD - she has been so b*tchy lately and won't smile and only grunts a hello. She had a tentrum when her brother was jumping on his bed at 9:30 am on Saturday morning right above her room - he's only here on weekends once in a blue moon! Last night she was yelling at him again for acting like an 8 year old boy. Then she kicked the dog and started hollering to me about what a mess the place was. I calmly told her that I only have the energy to do major hosuework on the weekends but she was welcome to vacuum more often if it bothered her. She yelled that they weren't her freaking dogs and she wasn't going to clean up after them. I felt like I was getting scolded by my mother. I was tempted to remind her that it was MY home and she was living here FOR FREE, and that at 23, you'd think she MIGHT do a little housework beyond her own stuff. I bit my tongue and walked away because she's always much ruder than I and will win a b*tch contest so why get into it. I don't think there's anything bad going on her life to make her obnoxious - I think it's just her way. So tell me, why are kids this age STILL SO self-centred?!!! (TE 20-somethings excluded of course... :)

We have 3 indoor cats, and I only vacuum once every 3 weeks or so...always seeing little fur tumbleweeds rolling by. Vacuuming is just not that high on the list. It's hard enough cleaning 3 cat boxes every day, but I'm good about doing that part. (crabcakes, anyone?..)

Kelowna, I don't think it would hurt to sit down with your daughter and let her know what is expected of her if she lives in the household. Somehow you must let her know that being grownup includes having respect and consideration for others.

Oh don't you know it! I definitely intend to but last night when she was in such a horrible mood was definitely not the time. We had a good discussion before she moved in about my expectations but she seems to have forgotten it. What was really bugging me was her rude criticism of the way I am choosing to live my life (enjoy life first, clean later. :) I think I may write her an email so I can get a word in edge-wise. I honestly can't believe her gall... After I wrote the post, I went down to do a load of laundry since my washer's been broken for 4 days and it just got fixed today. I found all the towels that I had left in the laundry tub, soaking wet and dumped on the floor. Now I remember her hollering upstairs last night to ask if the washer was fixed yet and hearing her handwashing some things in the tub. I guess she just decided to dump all my stuff on the floor... If she wasn't my daughter.... Good thing is, she's p*ssed off at me enough that she's probably looking for a new place to live as soon as she's finished school in January. Time to move on sweetheart... Some mother-daughter relationships are better under separate roofs. :)

kelownagirl: Your daughter sounds like a really angry person right now. I can't help but wonder if she's frustrated with how things are going. Totally *not* an excuse for her behavior, but sometimes understanding what's going on can help?

Tho I think she's got it too good to be true. I know I crashed with my brother for a couple of months when I got a new job out of state before my lease was up, and I was doing all kinds of chores for him AND paying him a small rent AND buying/cooking my own food.

Kelowna- You are a good mom. :) Being a parent is so tough. My children are not as old as your daughter, however they are never allowed to speak that way. I would not allow anyone to speak to me that way in my house. Now, that is just me. From what you have told us, it sounds as though you need to have a talk with her about rules. I realize she is an adult, but if she chooses to behave in such a manor, then she needs to know what is and is not acceptable to live in your house. If she does not like those rules, then she is free to move out. (okay, that is what I would say).
You are wonderful to provide free room and board to your 23 year old daughter. Now it is time for her to realize just how fortunate she is.

Again, you are a wonderful mom.

salsabike: Sorry to hear about Beeper. It is tough, especially to have to give subq fluids. I had a puppy who was born with defective kidneys and lost him at 10 months, so I know the pain that you are going through. Hang in there. {{{ hugs }}}

Well, I'm absolutely exhausted, so gotta get some Zzzzs. I'm getting my feet molded at 7 a.m. tomorrow for orthotics. Apparently my feet bones are crooked or something.
