No, can't say that I do have your address. :p
We decorated on Thanksgiving. Thom got the tree delivered on Wed. There is a picture of it in some other thread. It's wrought iron and wood. It looks nice. You can really see the ornaments. I can't believe KY draws all her Christmas cards. That's some dedication. :)
We use a photo and get the cards make at Kodak.com
Here's this year's. http://images.kodakgallery.com/photos2580/1/37/4/2/76/4/476020437107_0_SM.jpg
The ornaments were handmade by various relatives. The snowman is wax and is probably at least 50 years old, maybe more.

Color xerox will make the recipients gasp in amazement.
Trek shakes her cane and rattles her walker "why back in the day when I was in design school we didn't have computers. Kids these days!
We produced our projects by hand. By hand I say! And walked 24 miles uphill both ways to do it!
The only thing we could do was work big then reduce it on the xerox so it looked real tight."
Do one big drawing, have fun, lots of details etc
shrink it small make 4 copies
put the copies 4 up on one sheet of paper
xerox again
slice to 4 sheets
put on hand made paper ....voila!

Drove through the pre-nightmare version of that at dark:30 this morning. Wasn't too bad cuz i was darn near the only car on the road, I have AWD, and I could go at a happy safe little 25 mph on the sheet of ice known as Highway 9.

Well, I've got lots of catching up to do, don't I? Where to start, where to start...
OTG - So glad they got you fixed up. AG is cool, isn't she? And yeah, long legs on that girl. I had to drop the seat about a foot when I rode her mountain bike a few weeks ago. She rides a 54, I ride a 41. Yikes! The only thing I would do now is try out new saddles until you get one you like better. That's my latest project these days.
CWR - If I could come up there and carry you piggyback everywhere, you know I would. (thank God you don't have to deliver the mail.) Keep off your feet as much as possible until the surgery. Warm compresses and elevate, elevate, elevate!! (putting them up doesn't actually do anything in this case except to give you an excuse to laze around a bit :o) You know if there's anything at all you need, you just need to ask. *squeeze* Otherwise, I come up with my own ideas. **Just a warning. ;) :D **
Kit - Yes, you are a lucky girl. And H. is lucky that you understand that. Most people don't appreciate the good thing in front of them until it's too late. Tell her I said hi and give her a big hug and kiss. (remember, it's from me so no tongue, ok?)
BTW, interesting email there. No more port, ok? I'm serious, ya nut! You know I'll fly out there and, and... well, I don't know what, but I'll come up with something. The Visa can handle it little sister, no problem. Go ahead, gimme a reason... :D ;) :D
Kel and BMo3 - thanks for checking in on Denise. Good to hear that she got back to you. No further news tho? I really hope everything is ok.
Bmo3 - I'm much better today. Thank you. I had to get loud with someone today on a few subjects. Don't like to be put in that situation. They certainly heard me, don't know if they listened tho. Only time will tell. Good thing my can of whoop azz is refillable with this family of mine.
A great ride around Hershey Med Cntr and the town made it much better and I took Mom for dinner tonight for her B-day. (was Sat, but had the wedding instead) It also would have been my parents 50th anniversary on Fri. It's especially hard on me this holiday season knowing Pop's been gone almost 20 years now. Thanks again for the support. Very much appreciated. It made me feel better knowing someone was there if needed. :)
Nice Douglas Fir. My favorite. I'm not sure if we'll do one this year again. *sigh* It's just not the same without one for me. I do love the smell of a tree in the house. I like to get live trees that can be planted outside later. I guess, since I'm working X-mas day at the hospital anyway, I may as well not bother bugging again this year for a tree. No point. And too aggravating.
I'm not big on a white X-mas since I grew up in FL. Also, my first year up here in PA, my Uncle Glenn was killed on X-mas day by a drunk driver who lost control in the snow. (well, from the alcohol also) Don't especially like it to snow on X-mas. We reschedule if it does.
Knot - Mmhmm, Eartha Kitt. I remember her doing that song in the early 90's I think. (??) One of my favorite roles for her was in St. Louis Blues. No one can purrrrrrr like her.
That pic was beautiful. Glad you both got home ok with all that going on. Hand made cards, huh? Wow. My SIL does her own in watercolor too. I've got a few of her paintings hanging in the house. She's tried to teach me. Not a pretty site. Painting with the paper laying flat throws me. I need an easle and paint layers that have definition, thickness, substance. I love the look of watercolor though, very clean with an inherent softness that you don't get with oils or acrylics.
Trek - Box in the middle of the road? hehehe. Too much. Just too much. Being out there in the road, I guess you had to learn to take the lane at an exceptionally early age.
CyclChyk - I see you deleted the earlier post. Probably better that way. Sorry though. I know how that is. (boy do I) I'm sure he's a great guy, just gets sideways sometimes. Needs turned in the right direction with a gentle (or not so gentle) nudge.
BTW, I had on the red dot socks today over my thinner smart wool ones. Mm, mm, good! Do you remember when you were a kid and got new shoes and somehow it felt like you could run faster? That's what the socks did for me today on the bike. It felt like I was soaring out there. I averaged 16.4 mph, even with the hills. Must have been the socks. Thanks again!!
CrazyC - I missed talking to you lately. You're a lot of fun. All my fault tho. Not been a good week, but I'm much better today. Thanks for explaining 'whinges'. I had no idea what you were talking about. More proof that two countries can be separated by a common language. You say croc, we say gator. The same-but-different theory. :D
Well, don't know about y'all, but I'm beat. All caught up I think. Sorry if I missed anyone. Have a good night and sweet dreams!!

Wow, that was a lot of reading to catch up on. Dang peoplepc had me down all weekend - I spent an hour and a half with those people trying to figure it out. I was told a senior technician would call me and - big surprise - he didn't. So no 'puter at home.
CWR - hope your feet are feeling better. Can you grab you little toe and pull out and crack it into place? That's what I do with my big toe and for the quick pain it provides great relief.
Kit - well said on the relationship front. Glad to hear you appreciate what you have.
Was it X or Cycl that asked me why I thought Xena had a bladder infection? She got them a lot as a pup. She's 8 now and has been having accident's. This weekend she had several, and when we walked she's squatting to piddle every minute or so. I have a vet appointment this afternoon. Wish me luck trying to get a urine sample:eek: I gave her a cranberry pill two days in a row and she seems to feel better.
I SO wanted to ride bike this weekend but decided to be a good girl and finish my yardwork, winterize my lawnmower and clean out the garage while it was still 40. I now regret my decision to not ride outside - it's raining now and the highs at weekend will be in the 20-30's. Not good....

nothing tight or pinching what hurt were the meat of the hand where the thumbs attach(isnt' it called the mons of venus?). I did seek various positions while riding. also what hurt were my biceps and forearms. too much tension?

I started a little "journal" for my son this weekend. Just to jot down notes and sayings, things like that. He drank his first pop this weekend in the form of a kiddie cocktail - I was so proud! He doesn't like the fizziness of it and he even called it soda pop - go figure. He hasn't learned yet that up here in "da pickers" it's pop and bubbler. Guess he's already way cooler than his mom:p
I had a great walk in the woods with my dogs yesterday. We scared up a big deer, Xena caught a mouse (I made her let it go), they jumped in the Wisconsin River:eek: (they are NOT water dogs) and when we got home there was a mamma deer and two babies in the backyard (no spots). Dar - cute. :) I'm surprised to hear you call it pop. I thought y'all called it soda down there. My nephew called it "bubble juice" when he first started drinking pop.
Well ladies, you know that lovely smell that greets you when you get home from work and you had thrown stuff in the crockpot before you left? It's very annoying when it doesn't happen. Here I was, all excited about making Knot's chicken stew this morning and I guess at some point fairly early today, the power went out. Don't think it was out for long but I guess crock pots don't just turn back on if the power goes out. So I have a pot full of partially cooked stew, that's been sitting on the counter for about 8 hours at bacteria growing temperatures. Argh.
Second big pain in the *ss is that my darling young son left the garage door open all night, with the temps down to -15 (cel). Luckily, I had JUST moved 5 dozen beer and 45 bottles of wine (all home made) closer to the inside wall so they were all ok. Sadly, the other 5 dozen beer that were sitting right next to the open door ready to take over to our friend's place were frozen. Dang kids...
It's been a wasteful day all round...

K - 5 dozen frozen beers? Oh, the humanity!
X - Hope ya' feeling better. {{ hugs }} It was a tough holiday. So glad at least that one's over. Now I just gotta figure out what the heck to do with this pumpkin pie I bought for a co-worker's fundraiser.
BM03 - Got your card today! You're officially the first one I've got.
In other news ...
I had this really horrible, very realistic dream last night that I was laid off from work. I just can't get over how REAL it felt. Then the alarm went off at 5:15 b/c I was supposed to go to spinning, and I said to myself, "Why did I set off the alarm when I don't have a job?" DUH! I actually had to keep saying to myself that it was only a dream. So I got up at 6:30 and missed the class, but made up for it by going after work. Fortunately I got there in time to sign up before the class filled.
I see my new doctor tomorrow. He's highly recommended and I had to apply to be his patient several months ago, so hopefully he lives up to his reputation. I'm wondering if I have to get a new PCP or if he's gonna be it because I canNOT continue seeing my old doc. They are so stupid and completely incompetant.

All you snow people ------ are welcome to it!! I DO like snow, really I do, but I can live without it if someone else wants it! BM3, if I could send any snow to you, I would happily do so!
Soda vs. pop. Not even a contest in the midwest. Pop seems to be the clear winner. I wish I could remember how old I was when I realized that "soda" was the same as "pop", and not what you threw on the stovetop if it was flaming....... Or what you accidentally put in a cake, that your dear and beloved father ate out of love for his baking-impaired daughter.
Dar - besides soda, do you also understand turkey and dressing sandwiches???? Or is that only Iowa Midwest cuisine?
I DID read all of TD that I've missed over the TG holiday time. But just don't have the presence of mind to remember and comment on all. So I'm just picking up on the most recent. Sounds like everyone is at least ok if not for sore muscles, feet and joints, bad dreams, and various types of a**es floating around TD.
I did actually get in a bike ride over the weekend, plus an incredibly beautiful hike in a new recreational wilderness area near by. I'll try to post pics if they turn out ok.
For the wine drinkers on TD, I am slowly making my way through a thoroughly delicious, flavorful Las Rocas Spanish Garnacha. Only $10.99/btl. Quite full-bodied without being overbearing. Almost as good as Tres Pico Garnacha. I highly recommend either one. And open to suggestions for others?? :D :D

Hey Annie,
Nope, I meant "oh the humanity." After some extensive research of a five-second search of Wikipedia, I determined the phrase was made famous during the Hindenburg tragedy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindenburg_disaster).
Morrison's broadcast remains one of the most famous in history — his plaintive words "Oh, the humanity!" resonate with the impact of the disaster.
And that concludes today's history lesson. :D

Corn chips are good, too. After seeing too many jars of pickled fish/eggs/mystery creatures bouncing in jars behind country bars, I just can't do the pickled "thingy" eating. And, weirdly enough, tho' it could get me kicked out of TE, let alone TD, I don't really like chocolate much........ unless it's really deep, dark bitter chocolate. OTG, gotcha now. Really quite a heartfelt and hopeless quote at the time.
Homemade wine....... oh yeah........ my dad used to try that. With the balloons on the bottles. It was horrible, as I recall. Quite horrible. I don't even remember what he made it with. Maybe grapes, maybe ruhbarb. Either sickeningly sweet or completely undrinkable. Still, it was fun to watch the balloons swell and know that fermentation was going on in the basement.

Beer update - DH was not to be deterred. We are Canadian after all. The beer thawed while we were at work and as far as he's concerned, it looked fine. He drank a bottle, it tasted fine. We're going to give the other 5 dozen that didn't freeze to our beer-sharing buddy and keep the "bad" 5 dozen. I was more worried about the wine myself. We just bottled a batch (30 bottles) of our favourite Woodbridge Estates Cab. Sauv. which won't be ready for about a year (we just finished our last batch and it closely rivelled the store-bought Woodbridge Cab Sauv.) We have 15 bottles of gewurtz left - it's not bad either. And 30 bottles of Stagg's Leap Merlot which should be close to ready around Christmas. Next week, we bottle some White Merlot which we did just for fun. It's all made at a Wine Store so the quality is pretty good actually and I'm pretty picky. Of course, I do spend a bit more for the better quality stuff but it still comes out cheaper than store bought.
As for store-bought wine - my favourite drinking wine is a French Merlot. Bouchard Aine et Fils. Yummy. Not too expensive. $12 Can.

Hey! Home-made wines and beers can be much, much better than store-bought if you know what you're doing. DGF's ex brewed his own beer, made his own wines and meads. Very good. He was good enough that he could design recipes to his own specifications given ingredients. Impressive. I mean, I still don't like the guy, but his wine and mead were superb.
It's not too hard as long as you remember to sterilize everything like crazy, be careful about your recipes and watch the process. Don't let it go to vinegar, don't let it get too dry. Rack, rack, rack.

KG,
Good on you, bottling your own wine! I recognize both the Woodbridge and Stag's Leap names. Stag's Leap, especially, is a very impressive growing region. I can well believe you've got some fine wines there!!!
From what my beer distributors tell me (tho' I'm sure they say somewhat what the customer wants to hear), beer is able to survive more than one cycle of warming/cooling without adverse affects. So your once frozen beer is probably just fine. :::keeping fingers crossed:::::::::

I'm sure I'd've made a great picture a few minutes ago, crouched over the computer with my nose in a cup of warm saline. Very dignified! I caught my nose ring on my towel this morning, so it needed a saline soak to make it feel happy again.

I had a pretty funny thing happen today. I have 3 8 year old boys in my class that are a huge challenge to me every day. One has a big time conduct disorder and takes up all of my energy every day just keeping a lid on him. Another is in a world of his own and it takes whatever energy I have to left, to get him to do any work during the day. The third is a cutie pie who has huge attention problems. I spend all day by his desk, taking stuff out of his hands, and trying to get him to follow what we're doing. His mother sends him to school in clean clothes every day but by the time he walks into the classroom in the morning, he is absolutely filthy from his hands to his soaking wet muddy pants. He doesn't even seem to notice.
Anyway, today he comes inside after lunch, it's about 12 degrees below freezing. He comes up to me, and shows me his raw red tongue. Instantly I know what he's done (do kids really do that?! I thought it was only in the movies.) I asked him why!?! Someone dared him to. Jeez, I'd like to strangle the kid who took advantage of him. But at the same time, if any one kid in my class was going to do it, it would be him...

Oh yeah, we had school. As long as the busses are running and the power is on, we have school. Haven't had a snow day in the 12 years I've been teaching. One of the school buses was super late picking kids up today though. Almost an hour late. That's mostly because we live where it is really hilly and they have to climb to get the kids home. We were spinning out a bit gettng home ourselves today but the roads have certainly been worse. Everything was plowed and sanded by the time we left for work this morning anyway.
The kids all arrived in full snow gear - snow pants, toques, mitts, scarves, boots, and of course sliding carpets. They spent the whole lunch hour sliding down the back hill in the school yard. Lots of fun but not fun to supervise 700+ kids in the snow....

Snap, does Chloe eat the soft chews on their own or do you have to hide it in anything? The vet recommended that for Zeus since he's been moving kind of slow after out walks.
Yep, my baby girl has a bladder infection. But the vet didn't give her anything yesterday, he needs to finish up a test today so he knows which antibiotic to give her. Does that make sense? I hate having her hurting any more than she needs to.
So picture this. I know my dog has a bladder infection and is having accidents, yet I knowingly leave her in the house yesterday (can you say brain fart?). Care to guess what happened???? I smelled it when I went into my bedroom last night - she piddled on the playroom carpet. A huge, stinky puddle. Dang it anyhow, what was I thinking? I soaked up as much as I could and doosed it with Natures Miracle. I sure hope the stink comes out. Lesson learned - they're in the garage today.
KG, poor boy! That is cruel yet there's always one kid who tried it. I remember the kid in our class that did.

I'm back from visiting Sanibel Island (my inlaws for Thanksgiving) It was a nice trip. The first few days were a little cool but then it warmed up and was perfect low to mid 70's most of the time. Didn't have a bike so the only exercise I got was walking, but that was okay for the week. We got some things done around their house, painting, fixing dryrot wood, etc. So at least were a little bit productive. I got my full share of Gulf Shrimp - Oh yummy fresh shrimp. There is just nothing like it!
Our trip back was uneventful but long, we flew into Charlotte - had a 3 hour layover and then ended up with another 3 hour layover in Phoenix cause our little plane was delayed with maintenance issues. That was kind of a drag but we got home anyway. The trip into Flag was really bumpy but not unusually so.
Big Kitty is so happy we are home! He woke me up every hour - I guess he had to check I was still alive or something. He would get right up in my face and purr and purr and purr and if I didn't pay him any attention he would gently stick his paw in my face! Got to love that old Kitty!
It's just little snow flurries here today - hope we get some more significant snow tonight!
Boy, do I need some Exercise.
Don't know what has happened to my hubby! He is actually getting domestic (like he has cleaned the bathroom more in the last 6 months than in the entire time we have been married!; he went grocery shopping with me at lunchtime and actually took al the groceries home and unpacked them when I went back to work! (totally his idea); he washed pots and pans for Thanksgiving???! ) Wow, I'm just shocked and amazed!
Mimi: Great Jersey
Homemade beer - my old neighbor makes the best beer! He brought a bunch out a few years ago after we all helped each other shovel out after a real big snow storm! We just stood in the street at night and drank this great beer as the snow kept coming down! It was a gorgeous evening and a great neighborhood coming together party!

X: went out riding with BSG (bike shop guy) today. He got a call while we were riding about OTG's crank, a BSG is never off duty! We also plotted a nice little 23 mile loop from my house. Next time you two come down we'll give it a go. We'll have to wait until OTG's compact is done though cuz there is just_a_little_climbing

Sorry to not read and then post and run, but I'm just exhausted ...
Saw my new doc today. He was AWESOME. I'm so happy with the switch. Well worth the wait. I hope he doesn't retire anytime soon.
I lost 3.25 pounds in two weeks (we didn't have an official weigh-in last week). This is super astonishing to me because at my gym's scale, I had gained 6 pounds last week. Go figure. I've lost 22.75 pounds total.
Got my new Look pedals today to go with my new crank that's being ordered. My heart rate monitor is supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I can't use it in my session with my trainer this week. And I have replacement running shoes arriving this week, too. :) Happy early Christmas to me.
*yawn* Well, I really gotta get to bed. I didn't fall asleep until nearly 1 a.m. last night and then had to get up at 5:30 to go swimming.
OTG - glad you like your new doctor and congrats on the weight loss this week!
AG - welcome to TD!
Mimi - Happy birthday!
SW - nice that hubby is helping out. Take it while you can get it! Nothing I love more than to watch a man do housework. :D
Dar - hope the pup is better by now. :(
CWR - Where DO you get all those animations?!
-20 right now, that's a few degrees below 0 F. Still had school today but only 15 minutes of time outside at lunch so the kiddies didn't get frostbite.
(hee hee, I wrote fristbike at first)....

odd thing just happend.
Did any of you ship me something by UPS? If so sorry, I refused it
there's a knock on the door, a man says "UPS, I need a signature"
huh? I'm not expecting anything by UPS and told the guy so.
He repeated that he needs a signature
I look out the window (over barking lab/pit dog, good dog Mae ), this is not a UPS uniform.
I told him I'm not opening the door, if you're UPS leave it if not I'm calling the cops.
He left, I did, cops will check it out.
A certain someone on this board confirms UPS will not deliver after 6 except to busineses and they are always in full uniform not blue track suits

You did the right thing.
I told SKnot your story, and he rolled his eyes as I began the Mom's Litany Of Dangers Whilst You Are Home Alone. But I think knowing it happened to someone he knows makes him consider that *maybe* there's a real reason Mom is such a nag about safety...
UPS drivers must wear full uniform (right down to their socks) when they deliver. They will give you ID if you ask, they will tell you who the package is from, and if they can't get a signature because you won't open the door, they WILL leave a hang-tag at your door.
(I have a friend who's a UPS driver, and she complains about having to buy uniform socks; but now I see the point. And, no, she would NEVER try to deliver in a blue track suit!)

After he left I put Mae into a sit behind me, opened the door (so if the bad guy is still out there and can read Japanese he can see the beyooteeful 2nd degree black belt certificate framed on the wall behind me) and checked to see if there was a tag.
No tag. I don't think that was UPS.

Hey ladies, sorry I don't post as often anymore (and TD seems so much quieter for it....) but work's got my head spinning.
Had an exciting morning. Not going into details (I don't need that kind of attention) but everything's ok now. I need to get some sleep.
My commute's going well. I'm gaining strength so much faster than I expected to. Big breakfasts (ok, oatmeal in general) is still making me feel sorta pukey, but I'm truckin' along. It's something to set out and see it snow... or to be coming home, feeling the temp drop, and watch puddles progressively become more and more frozen-over as you approach 'home'... Can't wait for the days when the sun's actually up for the whole thing, though. :P
Mimi- have a very happy birthday (What's left of it, that is) Sweet jersey!
OTG- Congrats! you'll find you gain and lose weight at weird rates while biking w/ the formation of muscle, etc... just keep at it...
AG- I've always said 'Soda' too. Folks around me would say 'warsh' but it was never something I really ended up adopting. Just get me to say 'hammock' or 'havoc' or similar words and I'll say 'em like a midwesterner, though... and you never do get away from that midwestern thing, eh CWR? ;)
CWR- I'll ask your permission before risking life and limb again 'kay? :p It's hard to properly accept "Stay safe--or else!" threats. I mean... or else what? ;) :D
X- you're just crazy. And that's ok. *hug*
Trek- You did the right thing. People are beyond creepy and weird.
Knot- I'm glad someone else has "Mom's Litany" to hear over and over. It seems like so many kids these days don't hear any of that stuff and are *so* stupid about things...

Soft drink - My grandfather Burress taught that the proper way to ask for was "Coca-Cola";) ;) That's what for being the product of two Tennesseans. I did grow up in Missouri, so to me it's Soda

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIMI!!!!
Love the jersey. Can I borrow it when I come out to visit, huh, can I? :D
Well, AG welcome to TD!! ('bout time woman! ;)) I can't wait to go riding with you two again. Very nice BSG there. A little hill climbing, huh? I love hills! Go ahead and just try to kill me on some hills, I dare ya! Hey, OTG, I think when we go out riding with her next time, we better get cue sheets so when we drop her like a bad habit, we don't get lost in strange territory. (Of course, we both know that she'll be sitting there by the side of the road having a picnic and a nap while waiting for us to catch up. :o)
Bmo3 - My postie chick brought your wonderful Christmas card today. Made my day and believe me it took a lot to make my day today. Thank you so much! You are a treasure.
Dar - Hope the pooch is better. It's so hard to see them suffer and not be able to make it better right there.
Lise - It's so nice to see you in love. Thanks for sharing that with us.
CrazyC - hehe. I love the names. I'm coming down there one day just to hang out with you. You're a scream.
CWR - Thanks! For... you know, everything. Please feel better soon. Love ya sis. ~mick~
Kit - How's the knee? You make me insane and sane all at once. How is that possible? Oh, and the 'or what' is X comes over there and grabs you and *mumble, mumble's* you. Got it? Punk. (Ya know I love ya, don't ya?)

*whiny tone* I don't wanna be *mumble, mumble*'d! My knee's ok. It's been iced all afternoon with tiger balm tonight. It was pretty stiff at work, but biking home loosened it up again. I think I'll drive tomorrow. I was too skittish tonight to feel safe on any corners again.

It might be different if he had a Moots or a Seven or even a Madone!! But a Ferrari? Pish, that's only a car and needs fossil fuel to get it moving. All you need is your own self. Look at Lise! Any more than 15 and I promise to call H for a pick up at the airport and will personally crawl around through the brush and muck on my hands and knees to find ya. Then I'll bandage, splint, wrap, cast, tourniquet, suture, start an i.v., perform the heimlich, build a lean-to shelter, catch fish, start a fire to keep you warm (and for the fish cuz that ain't sushi grade in that creek ya know), shear a sheep-make it into yarn-knit you a sweater and some socks (as soon as I learn to knit), God forbid do CPR on ya or just simply kiss the boo-boo and make it all better. Good enough? **hug**

I'd love to hear your ladies accents, esp the southern ones ya'll.
I have been informed on many occasions I sound Irish. I have no idea how people think that...I am Canadian but have lived overseas for a while so the accent may have changed a smidgen but not that much. Ian notices the accent comes back when I talk to my mom on the phone.
Kit..do you eat breakfast before you leave for work? Are you able to eat when you get there and therefore making sure you have a good dinner the night before? What about eating say a bagel w vegemite(if you can find it) or honey along with a banana? Or some kind of healthy cereal with milk, banana, honey and raisins?
AG-if you had a BF with a ferari i don't know if you'd bike much...Could a bike fit into one? That's my only thought....

Hey there TD.
I'm back from the Sunshine Coast. Beaut weather - 27-30˚C, not so much as a threat of rain. Swam in the pool, swam in the sea, swam in the lake, swam in the creek. Ate lots. Better ride my bike tomorrow.
Night everyone. :)
Then he informs me.... well...$ is not an object...her BF (not DH..but BF) just upgraded his Ferrari,,,so $ isn't really a consideration.
F*** why can't I be her....
Hey, AG, I briefly dated a guy last spring from match who drove a Jaguar, etc. He dumped me without a word. No goodbye. Just gone. Still active on match, so not dead, just dead to me, I guess. I resolved, in the painful days that followed, to never again date a man who had more invested in his car than in his heart. BLECH!
J. has hair, teeth, and a great sense of humor. Last night we'd planned to get together after I was done with a meeting, but it was going to be late. When he realized how late, he said he was just going to stay home and go to bed. :( I made myself be a grownup and realize that the man was tired. That's all. We won't have another chance to see each other until Friday night. Alas. But absence does make the heart grow fonder...
The weather's been so warm here that I'm dying to ride my bike. I'm scheduled for so many hours at work, though, that I can barely do what I need to do around the house. Got up 1/2 hr early today to at least get in some yoga stretches. The temps are supposed to drop dramatically tomorrow. I think I'll at least get out for a run on Friday.
Have a great day, TD'ers!
I just realized what I want to do (instead of working an 8 hr clinic followed by 12 hr on call over night): Sit home and watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Go for a bike ride. Take a nap. Sounds like a viable alternative, right? :p OK! OK! I'm off to work!

X-I am so glad to see you! Please play with me more often. Oh, that sounded odd. You know what I mean, I hope. :D Glad you liked the card. I miss you.

I honestly od not have words that are adequate enough to convey just how happy I am for you. :) I am sorry you will not see each other until Friday, but imagine how much nicer it will be after a few days apart. ;) sitting home and watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy with runs added in sounds lovely to me.
Annie-I did not run yesterday, it was a bad day. I plan to run today in the rain. 67 here, were oh where is the snow?

What happened was, I was taking a hill-and-a-corner, with a jeep behind and to the left of me. My wheels go out from underme (to the left) and my knee and hip hit the frosted pavement. I use my right arm (which immetiately went to the curb) to pull me and the bike to the side of the road (couldn't get traction enough to get up right away). About when I go down, the jeep slams on her brakes and skids. How far, I don't know, because I was busy hauling my klutzy azz out of her way. I finally look up and over at the jeep, curled as tightly as I can to the side, and her front right tire was a bout a foot and a half from my hip. It coulda been a much rougher morning. Then there was also the bussload of stupid teenagers who witnessed and had to *laugh* about my crashing, but I don't see a single one of those pansies out on a bike any time soon.
so I'm ok. icing my knee. feeling stiff all over, but that's life. gonna be driving for a little while. at least until the roads aren't as slick.
agh I'm gonna be late. you ladies behave!

Ian's doing it solo & his team name: There's a loose nut on my bike.
It should be a great event night riding with kangaroos rustling around scaring the pahooeys out of me
have a good afternoon
c
i love it! Kangaroos rustle around??!
I also love the team name "there's a loose nut on my bike"
I survived my birthday. had a pleasant evening with DH and older son. Ate dinner at home (it was 25 degrees out) then after dinner,
we watched Brokeback mountain. The one guy did a great cowboy imitation.(I spent 10 years in Idaho so I know a cowboy when I see one!) I was not convinced of their love affair, but there were some beautiful parts in the movie. Watched 2 R rated movies with my son in 2 days. It's a good thing he's more mature than I am!
Meanwhile, my dear little sister not only did not wish me a happy birthday, she followed up all her other angry letters with one that made it clear that she has never forgiven me for anything I have done to her since we were children. And she's mad about a bunch of stuff I didn't do as well.
I wrote her back saying as much. I told her I'd be happy to talk to her about her job, her art, her friends, her husband, anything except regurgitation of the past.
so except for my sister, yes, I had a happy birthday. I already knew she was going to be this way (since last week when she went OFF) so it was not a great devastating experience, more a quiet sadness.
I say SODA!! but I translate to POP for the DH.
he says funnies I say comics (for the comics section of the paper) I think this is hilarious since we've shared the same house for almost 30 years!
I'd love to hear all your accents too. We are spread EVERYWHERE! I used to have a NJ accent, but now it takes an expert to catch it, since I've been on the west coast longer than I was on the east coast.

OTG - you rock! You are so inspiring to me! Could you please send me some movitvation. PLEASE????

Mimi - sorry your sis had to ruin it for you. I think she needs to grow up. You'd trust me to wear the orange jersey though, wouldn't 'cha?
CC - Love the team names! When is the race? We want pix!
AG - greetings and salutations. PM me anytime on Match misery - I'm all over it. I hate to pull rank here, but after 2 years of searching on match, I'm next in line, hehe! I'm calling it project FROG - finding a really ok guy (someone here came up with the name but I'm drawing a blank - sorry). Teeth and hair, huh? Maybe my standards are too high? I talked to a new guy last night who started off the conversation telling me holidays are depressing because his dad died last year just before TG and this year his mom took off somewhere for the holidays:eek: . Luckily, I lost the call at that time. If that's how he starts a call with a stranger, I could be in trouble here.
BMO3 - thanks for asking about Xena. She's doing better this morning. She even took her $4 pill like a good girl this morning. $4 pill - man, was this vet bill expensive! I'm waiting to hear from Scotts sister on how his surgery went - thanks for the prayers. And thanks for the Christmas card!
Lise - hope work went well. Did you get your vacation time for Italy all straightened out? If you have one, hows about posting a pic of you and your honey? You guys sound like such an adorable couple - you give me hope! Steve called last night and we may go out Saturday.
Spoke - glad the vacation went well. It's always good to be home isn't it? Good for dh getting domesticated. Maybe it's an early Christmas present?!
I have to go let my coffee OUT. Then actually do some work:p . I"ll check back at lunch. I'm getting close to 500 posts you know - milestone!

Procrastinating at work today...not a good thing:( It's 70 degrees outside and I'm never home when there's daylight:(

Kit, glad you aren't hurt worse. Scary slip there. How about some studded tires before you try riding on ice again?
Speaking of accents, my nemesis is the word "pen", and the word "pin", which are pronounced identically in my world, but other people seem to be confused by this. Big revelation when I moved from Missouri to Massachusetts to attend college was that some people can pronounce "Mary", "marry", and "merry" differently. Who would have guessed? A favorite English topic in grade school was the study of homonyms, which I now know there are more of in Missouri than anywhere else. And I was in 5th grade before a teacher finally corrected my spelling of warsh and Warshington.

I've been really busy lately and fallen behind on me TE readings. But today was a slow day at work so I thought I'd try to get caught up on TD. Not easy! You girls are all very chatty! And now I'm really jealous of those of you living up north. I want snow too!!! I love snow! All I get is the occasional torrential downpour, but otherwise damp and just warm enought to not feel justified in feeling freezing cold. Give me -20C and 6ft of snow any day! I've had enough of this damp and miserable weather where nothing ever dries out!
Sorry, that all came out a bit negative. I'm really quite happy. Only a few more weeks till Christmas!! :D And lucky for me, I get to do a bit of Channuka too!! :D In just 20 days I will be home in Norway, baking Christmas cookies and eating salted cod. I can't wait!!! :D

Kit - I usally avoided commuting when It was cold. 2 wheels and ice don't mix. Reminds when I did MTB'ing at the Game lands in Mt Grenta, pa after the snowmobiles had been through.
AG - Accents can be fun. I remember when I was in PA, someone commeted that I made a yummy peck-AN pie (vs PEE-khan). and youse had to take dat khar when it cold.... Of course in LA, you get to hear all kinds of accents. we talking on the train last night about an Xmas parade a local town has. it's on Badillo rd. Two ladies were duelling on the Anglo vs Spanish pronouncation.
On regional differences, I remember when I was in FL, that shopping carts were referred to as Buggies.

Oh, my goodness ... so many messages! How's a girl every supposed to get anything done?
I see my trainer tonight and "The Biggest Loser" is on TV, so Wednesdays are motivating nights for me. Helps me pass up the GIANT chocolate cake here in the office every time I pass by.
Well, despite going to bed before 10 last night I didn't get to sleep until 2 a.m. Insomnia sux. Why are docs so adverse to giving patients sleeping pills?
And what's with all the talk about coffee? I gave up caffeine in an effort to sleep better and you can see how well that's working. Now my new doc suggested giving up my two cans/day of diet (caffeine-free) soda that has aspartame because I have GI problems. He's killing me! I said I'd think about it. :D
Boy I didn't realize I was in such a foul mood. Sorry, gals. Nuthin' personal.
And of course it's pee-CAN pie. :D
AG: A bit of climbing ... as in the PA Dutch tour? We had T-shirts that said:
There's no climbing on this tour*
* in the first 1/4 mile
In any case, you did say the Ferrari man was ONLY a BF. So why aren't you calling him? :p ;) :D
X: AG wouldn't leave us in the wilderness of Valley Forge. ;) But I'll bring the picnic basket just in case.
Once I get that compact crank, bring it on! But I don't want to hear any comments like, "We thought you got lost," because I'm so far behind. (Yes, this actually happened to me in my walking group.)
Kit: Glad you're OK. Crashing is scary. Hopefully the bike is OK, too?
BM03: Aw, shucks, thanks. :o Hopefully you'll be cleared soon so then you can do some duathlons and maybe tris!!! I enjoy reading about your running because that is something I can't do yet. Trek - scary but glad your ok and did the smart thing.
AG - welcome to TD. btw: sugar daddys are to much work. ;) stay with what you have.
Lise - glad things are going good for you. how is the vacation planning?
Mimi - sorry about your sister. trust me i know how it is. though mine won't talk to me and changed her phone number too. though i still mailed her a xmas card all the same. besides, i've adopted some MUCH better sisters. at least them i can talk to unlike her.
Dar - glad to hear the pup is doing better. question of the day: why are vet bills so expensive? i need to go back to school and become a vet or a dentist!
Kit - be safe today - or else! *mumble mumble* just don't want anything to happen to you.
X - thanks for the good thoughts. didn't have a good night last night. here is why: (disclaimer: long rant)
i called the dr office yesterday to confirm my appointment for friday. i still have it and then i started asking questions about where they would do the surgery, if the dr i have an appointment with would do the surgery. they do it at one of the 3 hospitals here, and yes the dr i'm seeing does do surgery, but she will put me on a 3 - 6 month plan to see how my feet are doing.   what?! i am not going another 3 - 6 months without being able to run/bike or even wear shoes! hello i have to FLY into anchorage every time i want to see a dr. are they going to foot that bill (no pun intended). she said i will have to discuss things with the dr further to find out, but on a good note they do have openings for surgery in january if that is what is decided.
so then me an my brilliant brain last night go and do a web search on surgery and come across a health forum about foot problems. so i start reading and then get even more worried. most of these girls that have had foot surgery they have one done, then go back in and have the other. then i start thinking what if i have to go back in and have the other one done because she wont do them at the same time. there were a bunch more what ifs but i'll spare anyone that has read this far.
so today i'm bummed and scared to say the least. i can't stress to much about it, i won't know until i see the dr. oh! and on top of all this we have a bad storm coming through right now with winds suppose to be 60 mph tomorrow, so who knows if we'll be able to fly out. great......

If you want to go someplace without any real accent, visit where I lived in Wyoming. FYI, there was not one water fountain or bubbler in the town. :)
As for your feet young lady. You must not delay any longer then you are already. I can understand why they would want to do one then the other, so you can actually move about. Will you have someone to help care for you? If so, push to have both done at the same time. Otherwise, it will most likely be one at a time. :( We will help get you through it. Yeah, sorry AG, Dar has dibs on the next great guy...IN THE MIDWEST! Hey! That means you have dibs on the next great guy in your area! Dar, the dances sound like a really good idea. I am just so busy with work and AA commitments that I was never able to get to tri clubs, etc, to check out the guys.
Travel plans are coming along fabulously. New Orleans in Jan, and Italy in March. They're just going to have to work it out about the schedule. My boss is great. I told her, "I'll be in Italy. I'm sure you guys will figure something out." I'm taking the day after we get back off, too. Just not telling them that. I am not going back to work completely jet-lagged out.
J. is such a good, good guy. No pictures of us together, yet, but there may be some from Thanksgiving that I haven't seen yet. I'll post one when I get it.
My ex was from PA, and made a big deal over how Berry-Barry-Bury are pronounced the same here in the midwest. Um, yeah? And?
Off to sleep, and then up and off to the hospital over night. See y'all, TD!

Honey Happiness! (the other kind!)
I bought 6 lbs of honey at Costco! Mmmmm, honey on slices of cheddar... honey on rice pudding... honey in big ol' spoonfuls!

ahhh honey. I like the exotic kinds. well "exotic"... like orange blossom, carrot, blackberry, apple, and you know, even though it's not technically honey, I like agave, too. so sweet. mmmm.

Strange....I've been suddenly eating honey lately too! I think it's helping my autumn sweet-tooth fat-tooth. Something about honey that I'm craving. Been eating buckwheat honey. Last year one of my daughters got me a honey dispenser: http://shopsouptonuts.com/images/Honey%20dispenser%205514.jpg
It's so cool because it has it's own little cup stand where you put it back and it doesn't drip at all! Looks pretty on the counter. At the time I didn't mention that I don't use honey, but now a year later I have a Honey Jones  and I dug the dispenser out and have started using it. I find my guests like it too and have been using it.
Also today I bought a bottle of molasses for the first time in years. I'm getting going with my new crock pot and want to make more bean dishes and pork roasts and veggie stews.
Tomorrow I am making some barley mushroom stew with lamb. The next pot after that will be "Chipotle-Kissed Red Bean & Sweet Potato Chili"....MMMmmmm!!!!
Can't ride bike tomorrow- my baby is in the LBS for a total shifting tuneup after I failed miserably in trying to adjust the shifting. :o But I look forward to hopefully it purring like a kitten when I get it back tomorrow night. Guess I'll set up the crockpot in the morning and then spend the whole day actually working. (Yes, I DO indeed have a job!)

Hi all,
So what are the chances of the power going out a second time this week, when I just happen to have done a second attempt at the crock pot? I couldn't believe it when I got home today and didn't smell cooked food for the second freeking time this week!*&^%$! . At least this time, the power had gone out fairly recently, the crockpot was still pretty hot, and I was able to salvage dinner although we didn't eat until after 7pm.
Lise - I am SO happy that things are going well you and J! Looking forward to seeing a picture of you two together. :)
Mimi- thanks for PMing Nanci - keep us posted.
CWR - cool little town (?) you live in! Sounds like miles from nowhere, and then some! The website needs a map - or did I miss it?
HP = Hewlett Packard - heehee... Can't wait for the next HP book...
Hurt my back tonight putting my mom's suitcase into the car. Can hardly walk right now, let alone get on my bike. Hope it loosens up overnight...
After a day of partially blue skies, it's snowing again. Good news is it's warming up a bit. (relatively - only -12 now and it was -18 at lunch time.)

Hi, sorry I disappeared- I think I got stuck in a snake forum vortex, plus working a ton of OT because I am way behind, and am coveting another snake, and suck at riding my bike- except I am doing a 200k Saturday in Jupiter, Florida which will be #11 of the series of 12...I don't suck at eating or drinking, unfortunately. I've disappeared in my personal life, too- I think the last time I saw friends was the day I went to see Jackass Two, and when two friends stopped by unannounced on my birthday. I feel reclusive. I'm glad this is the last way out of town ride for a while- I like seeing the new places, but they are getting so far away that my usual friends won't go that far, and the hotels are expensive, and gas for a 350 mile drive is expensive...I tried to keep up with TD as best I could, but I have been pages behind every day- and I have it set on 100 posts per page, or whatever the max is. I haven't ridden with my bike group since the day I almost got hit by a car. Maybe it's the holidays and not being able to get up to see my family. I _could_ drive up, maybe, but it's a 24 hour drive, and if BF goes home for Christmas- then I worry about all the pets being alone- Milly tips over his dishes, the torts expect a fresh-cooked meal twice a day- I don't know- it's hard to leave. I shouldn't have even taken vacation that week. Is something wrong with me that I just want to stay home and hibernate??? I _feel_ content. It's weird.

Hey Nanci,
You're allowed to hibernate!!! Is there a person from the snake forum that could look after your snakies for a few days??
I wouldn't feel bad about leaving them for a few days in order to see your family.
Best of luck at the 200k ride on the weekend.
I'll be thinking of you whilst at IMWA. Oh yeah & running mommy too...
Hey I heard from Denise(223) yesterday. She's alive & well but not biking as much as she'd like.

Nanci! Bruno! Great to hear from you! :D
J. just called me to say they're predicting 8-10" of snow tonight. As it's 7:21 AM, I suspect he mainly wanted to talk to me. ;) Which is perfect because I woke up thinking about how loving he is with me. That's right gals, I woke up in the call room because I was in bed all night while on call!!! Two call shifts in a row with no pages at all! It's a freakin' miracle! I feel like I looked at the clock every 20 minutes last night, but at least I was lying down. Now I'm going to get some b'fast and see the two ladies who delivered yesterday. Then I'm off call in 2.5 hr!
Thanks for all the happy messages about me and J...the long-timers here at TE/TD certainly supported me through enough disappointments and wierdness in the dating world.
OK, I'm a lousy 1/4 Scotsperson...what's St. Andrew's day?

Bruno works too hard and then has no time for *us*.
We must duck tape her to her computer and only let her out to ride and then only if she will post about the Scottish countryside (eg bonnie banks of lochs, heather, the sea to Skye, high roads and low roads, etc); so we will all be reaching for our single malts (or our breakfast oats with salt not sugar for the non-drinking community) and singing along to her descriptions
Everyone now, all together ...
Ye Banks and Braes o' Boonie Doon,
How can ye bloom sae fraish an' fair,
How can ye chaunt ye little burrds
An' I'm sae weary, fu' o' care
Ye'll break ma heart....
That should get her out on her bike!!!

Welcome back Nanci and Bruno!
Nanci - I understand the hibernating too. I can "get inside" myself very easily and have to make myself stay connected to the world sometimes.
Bruno - St. Andrews Day, huh? Guys with kilts and no undies, huh? That would be distracting for me, lol. Like I'm not already distracted at work:p Right Mimi??
KG - do the power gods not like you??
Lise - good for you starting the day talking to J! I remember how that feels....
Yeah, my friend made it through his heart operation successfully! He was breathing on his own by 5pm last night and seems to be in great spirits according to his sister. I sent him a little something yesterday and if the snow stays down by Lise, I'll drive down and see him Saturday. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes.
CWR - cool link. When do you head out on vacation? Enjoy!
Xena is doing better. Bugger wouldn't eat her pill this morning (yeah, the $4 one!), even dipped in peanut butter. So mamma shoved it down her throat:p
I'm afraid I'm gonna have to work today. I have a customer coming in this afternoon and I need to be ready. Plus it's month end - accounting wants projects invoiced. Fun, fun!

Nanci
11-30-2006, 07:14 AM
Salsa- don't tell Choco (or lately, Zee) but I am in love with a snake named Steve. He's a cornsnake, and his owner always has the funniest stories and photos of him. Like she has a picture of Steve as a baby, next to a plastic Steve Irwin model. And then as an adult. Steve Irwin is now dwarfed by snake Steve. And a couple days ago she went to check on Steve in the morning, and he was gone! So she tears the house apart, and leaves flour along all the places he might be- to look for tracks, and then catches a glimpse of him out of the corner of her eye- he's in a big tub of moss, with just his head sticking out, on a shelf, and he has the most adorable guilty look ever...
Choco just got done shedding- a process that took from a week ago Saturday till Tuesday, and then I fed him Tuesday, so he's been digesting for two days. I miss him!
But I have Zee the birthday snake, who is the most adorable thing ever. He tries to burrow into the carpet if I set him down, and he would _never_ bite (like wildcat Inez) and he is a good eater.

KG-How is your back?
CWR-I assume you are on vacation. Safe travels. :)
CC-Happy St. Andrew's Day. Kilts, eh?
Bruno-I am very glad to see you posting again. :) I cannot speak like a Scot. :(
DebW-I can only use RPN. Regular calculators throw me off my groove.
Nanci-did Addy ever eat for you? Enjoy your ride Saturday. Pics, please take pics. There is nothing wrong with being content and in hybernating. We all need quiet at some time. I am glad to see you posting. :D
CC-last I heard from Denise223 she was happily becoming addicted to knitting. :D
Lise-I am so glad you had two calm nights on call and you and J have each other. :)
Dar-I am pleased to hear your friend is doing well after his surgery. Now to get Xena to happily take her pill.

No, Addy didn't eat. I'm going to buy some frogs for her when I'm down south, but I doubt she'll eat them. Then I'll have to let her go.
But someone has already offered me a replacement guaranteed mouse-eater- a Western, though, not an Eastern. But I think I've had enough of Easterns for a while. Too bad- she's the sweetest little thing.
She's only lost three grams of weight.

KG - do the power gods not like you??
Not this week. To add insult to injury, the breaker downstairs flipped on monday and I didn't know. Everything in the freezer is gone, thankfully, it wasn't really full. And it was the power-doorlock gods who jinxed me last night when I couldn't open the rear door of the van and had to shove the suitcase onto the seat.
BM3 - Back is in rough shape today. Not comfortable laying down (bad night), hurts to sit, and even more to stand up again. I've spent much of the day leaning against my high stool in the classroom. Ugh. Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow or else I'll go get some anti-inflammatories...

Pet birds tend to self pick when they are bored. Perhaps your daughter already knows this. I would play the radio for the bird when I go out, and put a big mirror in its cage, plus lots of toys and attention and things to CHEW on like nut shells, bark covered sticks, cardboard, etc.

Last night, when I could not sleep due to profuse sweating and discomfort, it really should have been a clue. It was not. This morning, still clueless, just knew I was hot and felt icky. It took me almost not making it to the bathroom and another incident of almost puking on my son (he was lying on the floor reading) for me to officially declare I have the freakin flu.:(
Now I am hot, sick, cannot sleep, bored, hot, miserbale and I am grumpy.
DH went out in the rainstorm for ginger ale and popsicles. Did I mention how freaking hot I am????

BM3 - sure hope you're feeling better asap. I agree with Lisa - you definitely don't need this... :(
Nanci - how's the mouse staying down??? Crossing my fingers.
Mimi - I've never had chocolate dipped chestnuts. In fact, not sure I've ever eaten chestnuts at all. Should I be trying some?
Nanci - our chickens used to do that sometimes on the farm. Keeping them less stressed seemed to help but it seemed once they started, it was hard to stop them.
I've been searching online for training suggestions for doing a double. There's so much variety out there. Anyone got a site they recommend? I have decided that I'm going to try to train hard for the banff-jasper ride next June and see if I am able to manage to do it, on my own, if not with the boys...

Apparently Erin Hartwell goes to my gym! My trainer said "hi" to him the other night during my workout, but my back was to him so I didn't see his face. Looking at his photo online, I think he might have been in my spinning class!!!!!!
(He is a three-time Olympian and two-time medalist for the U.S., and was the first American cyclist to medal in consecutive Olympic Games, 1992 and 1996 and the first American male cyclist to medal in a non-boycotted Olympics since 1904.)
Also I saw on another forum that Bobby Julich apparently is training near Valley Forge where AG and X and I went riding!!! We could have passed (er ... been passed by) Julich and not even known it! Definitely going to look for CSC colors next time, but will be hard to recognize when I'm going 13 mph and he's going 25+ mph.
Edited to add Marty Nothstein's (track cycling legend) brother goes to my gym. My trainer says Marty sometimes stops by.
