I am genuinely interested in what other people eat on a daily basis-- especially here at a women's cycling forum! I want to know how people eat before big races and long rides. I'm curious to see what kind of spread we have here.
I will start :D
Today I ate:
No breakfast :( That's a huge no-no, but I woke up late and didn't have time to grab anything before swimming this morning!
Lunch:
Gardenburger without the bun
A heap of steamed broccoli
Roasted cherry tomato salad
A couple ounces of turkey on the side
Dinner:
A large bowl of brown rice with two eggs scrambled and delicious kimchi
Glass of OJ
What did you eat today? :o

Your day looks pretty much perfectly balanced-- nutrition-wise. I wish I had enough forethought to plan snacks, but I'm usually too busy to think about being hungry mid morning and mid afternoon.

I can't take too much credit for that. DH packs me a big lunch box every day with all the snacks and good food to keep me away from the vending machines. I just open it and pull out snacks and eat. I'm a lucky ducky.

Did everyone who posted so far cycle today? ;)
Last few days not normal at all food-wise ad cycling-wise, since I'm visiting family and friends. Cycling has been only 12-35 kms. daily. I normally ride 42 kms. daily back home in Vancouver.
Since yesterday was a non-cycling day due to other activities with 2 sisters, I won't elaborate unusually diverse and filling meals, including 1 early dinner at Chinese restaurant where 3 of us shared 4 entrees. :o
___________________________
But since you asked with curiosity for "longer" rides, recently 4 days ago as part of 35 kms. trip:
Breakfast
1 small bowl of cornflakes with skim milk (hey, it's my sister's home.)
a fresh peach
tea with skim milk
Lunch (This is not normal for me. I barely have any lunch. I've improved over the years, at least a bigger breakast is a regular habit now.)
1 slice of bread with 2 tblsp. of goat cheese
tea with skim milk
Supper (at my dearie's son's gastropub. he is chef/cook there, it was destination goal of our ride:)
shared 1 large bowl of chilled minted melon and cucumber soup with dearie
I had leek risotto with scallops, mushroom and tomato
pineapple juice
Came back where before 2 hrs. before went to bed, had plum and tea with milk.

I swam for 45 minutes this morning (leisurely) and then rode about 15 miles this afternoon (also leisurely) :D

Well, since I just signed up for the weightloss challenge, I'll fess up to my diet as well.
BF Frosted bite size mini wheats with 2% milk.
Snack, string cheese and almonds
Lunch,3-4oz Roast beef on WW with light mayo and mustard.
snack, 1 small cup(120 cal.) ice cream. almonds
snack, 100 cal granola bar
Dinner, tons of fresh green beans cooked with some sort of specialty sausage from costco.
cup of 2% milk
Oh yeah, a few mini reese's from my secret stash in my room that the kids don't know about. After these are gone I won't refill the stash. But I'm too weak to toss them out.
Today I did week 5 day 3 of couch to 5K which is 8 min. jog, 5 min. walk, and 8 min jog. Tomorrow is my bike ride day.

mini reese's are both the essence of evil and the essence of all that is good and right in the world.
Two somewhat-thick pieces of home-made spelt bread, each with honey, peanut butter, raspberry spread and cottage cheese.
Coffee. (Nothing in it.)
Hard-boiled egg once I got to the office.
A small-ish portion of udon noodles with two lime&cilantro flavoured chicken drumsticks (leftovers from last night). With the skin, thank you.
A handful of cherry tomatoes and maybe 5 cubic inches of cheddar.
An espresso.
A (home-made) bun stuffed with a little more cheddar and home-grown sprouts, with a bit of Dijon mustard.
That's it up to now, and I don't know what dinner will be yet.
Oh, and maybe 3 small squares of milk chocolate (Ritters with cornflakes!). And about 2 liters of water.

This a good thread for me. I've always struggled with my weight. I grew up eating what my mom called balogna boats: Ringed pickled balogne with a large scoop of mashed potatoes and topped with lots of cheese.
Anyways:
Breakfast:
Fried egg sandwich (1 whole egg + 1 egg white on gluten free bread)
Snack:
Coffee and nature valley granola bar
Lunch:
2 cups cooked vegetables with a tsp olive oil and light seasoning
1 cheese mozza cheese stick
(usually it's more planned, but I was rushed this morning)
Snack:
Apple
12 raw almonds
Dinner:
1/2 cup quinoa
Chicken and broccoli stirfry (1/2 cup)
Snack:
Banana
1/2 ounce 86% dark chocolate
I wasn't planning no the last snack, but I ended up doing an hour ride on the trainer after I got the kids to bed.

Nothing really to brag about, but today's food was:
Breakfast:
2 fried eggs, 2 croissants, a large skim espresso latte
Lunch:
large bowl of whole wheat cereal with lo-fat milk
Dinner:
2 bowls of vegetable soup jam-packed with veggies grown by myself and neighboring friends.
Way too much local sheep milk cheese w/herbs.
After breakfast today I rode my bike 16 miles which included a few big hills. :)
pancakes with sugar free syrup, scrambled egg
six oreos
large bowl of home made mac and cheese with ham and broccoli in it
and a bunch of delicious concord grapes that I bought from a woman down the road for $2.00
:) :) :)

B: 1 chicken sausage (spinach and feta) and coffee
swam laps
L: 1 turkey burger (no bun), garden salad w balsamic vinaigrette.
D: 1 Lobster, asparagus w lemon, radishes, 200 g FAGE full fat yogurt

Breakfast: Oatmeal (made with water) with peanut butter, cinnamon, and butter spray.
Lunch: Bowl of cheerios with low calorie soy milk, yogurt, and a few malted milk balls.
Supper: Salad, fresh fruit, small serving leftover meatloaf, a couple bites of expensive cheese, piece of cornbread.
Snack: Cocoa, ice cream bar, and a few more malted milk balls.
About 1200 calories.
Went for a 2 hour 31 mile kinda hilly ride.
PS - My metabolism is no friend of mine.

Having had dinner, I can now add to my earlier testimony:
A copious amount of capellini pasta with clam "sauce" (the clam's juice from the can and white wine, garlic, parsley, bread crumbs) with some strips of red, yellow and orange peppers and some slices of the single viable zucchini we've had this year. I think I had about 6 Kalamata olives, maybe more, and a slice of white crusted bread.
Half a glass of skim milk and and a lot of water.
I expect my sweet husband to bring me a square of chocolate sometime before I go to bed.

Breakfast: Oatmeal with apple & sultanas
Snack: Orange & protein shake
Lunch: Low carb shepherd's pie (cauliflower instead of potato topping) & steamed veges
Snack: Red grapes
Dinner: Corned meat & steamed veges
Rode for 1 hour before breakfast - a bit of pace which translates to plodding & a couple of hills. Weight training tonight.

This is as interesting as I thought it would be! Everyone here eats so nicely-- hurray for us :D
I did a 45 minute swim this morning, but nothing to eat yet. I'll report at the end of the day :)
This one's easy, I eat the same thing every day. Except for every now and then when my appetite catches up with increased activity or stress, then I'll eat anything not nailed down. I try to eat often and not too much at a time.
Breakfast: seal oil (omega 3) supplement, calcium supplement, orange juice. Black coffee. 2 slices of bread ("full grain"? sorta healthy), one with cheese and ham or similar protein, one with banana.
(40 min bike ride to work.)
Snack at work: green tea w/ a little sugar and lemon. 2 rye crackers.
Lunch: large salad, heavy on beans and chickpeas, oil dressing. White tea, 1 sq very dark chocolate.
Pre bike ride: 2 slices of bread with peanut butter. Black coffee.
(50-60 min bike ride.)
Handful of unsalted raw almonds or walnuts while contemplating dinner. Maybe a banana or something if dinner is going to be late.
Dinner: most typical is boiled rice and something wok-ish, chicken or pork fried with a lot of vegetables plus some kind of wok sauce (store-bought).
Evening: herb tea, a cracker or cookie or two sometimes. If I have dark chocolate at home another sq of this will frequently disappear roundabout now.
I've pretty much stopped buying snacks on impulse while on the road or while shopping, since I incorporated a few snacks into my regular diet. I'll buy an icecream or latte every now and then, but mostly to be social, not as much because I really crave it.

I was wondering IF only gals that ate "healthy" were posting....
really makes me think I over eat, but when I do eat healthy at about 1400 calories I am HUNGRY. GUT, wrenching hungry!
So here is what I ate yesterday and I skipped my workout!
B: 1 1/2 cups crunchy rasin bran w/ 8 oz 1% organic milk (probably the onlyt good thing I ate!)
L: provided by hosp at a lunch meeting--RB on wheat bread, baked lays and BIG choco chip cookie...that I ate at my NEXT meeting (so I guess that was my snack)
S: 2 mini reeses...OMG I can never give those up
D: we went out...Carabas--slice (2 halfs) of sour dough bread w/ olive oil dipping sauce (yum). Ceasar salad WITH the dressing on and croutons. 1/2 of the chicken pizza--not too cheesey, chicken and pin nutes on it thin crust.
Oh and 2 glasses of wine. (What can I say).:o
I probably eat like that at least one or twice a week. So probably explains why I have 8 pounds to lose and can't lose it. I love food. I love eating out. I get bored w/ same ole food easliy.
So there is the honest picture of my eating habits!

That's only because you asked yesterday. Now, if you would have asked on Saturday after I did my AR . . . There would have been about 3 pieces of cheese pizza, cheesy avacado dip with pita chips, a few beers, cookies, I think there was a salad in there and a York Peppermint Patty. And that was just dinner.

Wish I had your problem! I think I killed my metabolism from years of inactivity and HORRIBLE eating habits. It's really hard for me to lose weight now. I have to eat a specific combination of proteins/carbs/fats while maintaining 1400-1600 calories a day. If I work out for more than 60 minutes, I can add nutrition during that workout--but anything more and it's going right to my butt (which is usually what happens).

How about this...I've got one bad day and one good day to share...
Yesterday:
B: cinnamon chip scone and coffee with skim milk from Panera
S: cherry vanilla bagel from Panera
L: left over chicken Kung Pao from chinese place on Sunday (had 1/3 of the meal) and a 1/2 can of diet Coke
S: 1/4 c of granola that I brought to put on my yogurt (didn't eat the yogurt because I didn't have time to go to the break room!).
D: sushi (assorted rolls and nigiri)
desert: 1 cup light ice cream with about 2 Tbs of mini choc chips on it
Today's plan:
B: 1 egg, 1 slice of canadian bacon & 1 whole grain english muffin
S: coffee with goats milk, grape tomatoes
L: 3 oz tuna, 2 cups frozen veggies (broccoli & beans, mostly), 1 orange
S: 1/2 cup goats milk yogurt w/ 1 tbs of apple butter (all homemade)
D: chicken breast with homemade pesto (grilled), steamed broccoli, sauteed zucchini and baked acorn squash
Yesterday - all of it was purchased
Today - almost all of it was home made or home grown
How's that for contrast? :p

Normally my minimal intake is probably 2,000 calories/day --with or without any cycling. I dunno. I've never tracked calorie intake. I will have to downgrade the intake as the years go by.
I used to have a fast metabolism.

Yesterday I had...
breakfast: oatmeal with dried peaches and less than a teaspoon of honey
snack: about 1/2 a Luna bar
lunch: green salad with some chicken and marinated artichoke hearts, apple
(10.5 mile ride before dinner)
dinner: leftover vegetable beef soup with pasta stars, 2 corn tortillas with low fat cheese, salsa and an ounce of chicken.
snack: skinny cow ice cream sandwich and a handful of pretzels, banana chips and cat
That comes out to about 18 points on weightwatchers.... or around 900-1000 calories. I'm hungry and on a plateau again :-(

This is abit wrong for me today so far. Really, I ate as if it has been for a 75 kms. bike ride...instead of a 28 kms. windy but sunny bike ride today. :)
B- cereal with skim milk. Ciabatta bun with goat cheese. Tea with skim milk
L- Biked over to the market. peameal bacon sandwich with headache-inducing horseradish mustard. Dearie me, I had forgotten this mind-blowing condiment. Haven't had this formerly favourite sandwich in past 2 yrs. :o More meat than I can recall. Oh well, at least it's lean. Coffee with milk.
Back at hostess' home for a fresh prune plum and tea with skim milk. Told my sis we could split-share the skinny puff pastry twist with raspberry filling from the market later on. Poor kid (she's struggling with a sudden back ache and her 18 month active daughter). I'm glad I bought the fresh peaches for her family.
S- don't know. But a restaurant meal with a friend at a restaurant where culinary students run the show and serve their concoctions. Will be walking and taking subway instead of cycling. Walking will be about half hr. in total. Very pleasant.
This is not a model diet. Just a visitor's diet. :):o:rolleyes: Most likely will near the 3,000 calorie mark by end of today.
I probably won't be seeing my family and friends for the next few years. So gotta make choices and slip in cycling when I can here and there.
Yesterday - all of it was purchased
Today - almost all of it was home made or home grown
How's that for contrast? :p
Yesterday I went to the Co-Op with the intent of buying a pre-made (somewhat) healthy dinner. Once I got there I stopped and thought "a nice made from scratch dinner won't be that hard", so I picked up salad fixings/portobellos/and cheese instead. Ended up having a lovely salad with grilled portobellos on top, it was soooo much better than even decent pre-packaged food.

I think I probably eat around 1800-2400 calories a day, except of course, if I am going out to eat..
Yesterday I had:
B: half a cup V8, egg whites (2) and grated cheese, and about a cup of whole grain organic cereal w/skim milk, tea
snack: low fat string cheese
L: low salt ham (2 slices) and low fat provolone cheese sandwich on a whole wheat roll with Dijon mustard, a teeny scoop of pasta/veggie salad (I was at a picnic at my internship, where the clients made lunch, which I mostly did not eat), and an apple
snack: at 4 Pm before my class, I had a handful of walnuts and dried cranberries. At 5:15 during the break, I ate a Luna bar because dinner would be late)
D: turkey burger, mixed with panko bread crumbs, on a ww roll, tomato, avocado slices, and low fat provolone, onions. about a half cup of cole slaw, my usual 2 small pieces of dark chocolate from Trader Joe's.
I drink water all day long and with my meals.
Today, so far, I've had:
B: about a cup of low fat cottage cheese, mixed with fresh strawberries, almonds, and dried cranberries, a slice of whole wheat toast, with about a teaspoon of soy nut butter on it, V8, tea
snack: a Luna Bar (chocolate) before going on a 22 mile ride, low fat string cheese
L: salad with romaine lettuce from nearby farm and grape tomatoes from same farm, topped with tuna packed in olive oil, a sprinkle of romano cheese, and red peppers, with wine vinegar on it, plus about a cup and a quarter of acorn squash soup, water
tonight's dinner will be portobella/cheese enchiladas in whole wheat tortillas and black beans

L
Protein shake (I added 1/2 frzn banana and 1 tsp PB)
Snack
2 cups popcorn
D
Chicken and broccoli stirfry made with tamari and quinoa
(leftovers from yesterday)
1 piece Dark chocolate
I will probably do a 30 min strength training workout followed by 20 minutes on the stationary bike before dinner.

Today did not start out well-- meetings always bring all manner of goodies.
After swimming 45 minutes this morning, I ate:
2 plums
a bite of cheesecake (there were cheesecake bites at the meeting :()
a reeses peanut butter cup
2 rolls with jam
This was all over the course of the morning-- all of it food provided at meetings.
Lunch:
Kielbasa dog without a bun with sauerkraut
green bell pepper stuffed with bulgur
Dinner:
Cilantro lime chicken burger (not as good as I hoped... too much red bell pepper)
a bunch of brussels sprouts steamed yummm
overall it all balanced out I think. :)

I wasn't going to play because DH isn't home and I just can't be bothered to cook for one. But I never measure what I eat and I was too curious not to join in. :p So here goes. Not that I'll probably get around to adding everything up.
Breakfast - this at least is pretty normal, I NEVER cook breakfast except to nuke some hot cereal when it gets cold outside.
2/3 c blueberries (frozen, from a U-Pick not too far from here)
2 tbsp walnuts
1/2 c oat O's cereal
1/2 c hemp milk (probably 1/3 c would've been more like my usual portion, but I was measuring into a 1/2 c measure just to see )
Sen cha green tea x 3 - 12 oz mugs
3/4 c mixed vegetable soup (leftover)
1 can Amy's lentil veg soup (which I definitely wouldn't have eaten if DH was home, but there probably would've been more leftovers too)
Went to the buffet restaurant for dinner:
1/3 c mashed potatoes
1/2 c baby limas
1/2 c cooked spinach
Medium portion of baked fish (maybe 5 oz)
3" crab cake
3 brussels sprouts
1 fried shrimp
1 deviled egg (1/2 an egg)
1/4 c peas
2" square peach cobbler
1" x 1.5" x .25" peanut butter brownie (it was so small compared to what I usually think of as a "brownie" I had to be specific ;) )
Water (not enough... a little over 1 liter so far today)
Odds are I'll have a late-night snack before it's over; I got some delicious grapes and plums from the farmer's market. :)
Edit: yep. Two plums and a handful of Canadice grapes, yum.
Today was a running day. On cycling days I usually eat more.

Ok, Oak this was my restaurant supper this evening ...an addendum to my earlier post today. At a restaurant to help train culinary and hospitality students at a college:
a cherry tomato amusee bouche with some sort of cheese filling
appetizer: smoke salmon over curried pancake with cilantro yogurt sauce
pear-ginger juice drink
grilled trout with tomato, pine nuts and herbs over a sort of broccoli (looks close to Chinese gai lan, but not quite)
ginger peach crumble with cardamon spiced topping (artfully served in a little tartlet shape instead of usual jumbly mess)
Menu is not overly fattening, but methinks whole day added up to alot. :o:)
All students dressed in their serving whites, etc.
I'm happy above all, to have caught up with good ole friend on news.

Hm...probably a bit off, but here goes:
Yesterday:
B: Bowl of cereal with 1% milk.
L: don't remember. I think there was an apple involved.
D: spaghetti tossed with Italian sausage, chunks of tomato, onion, garlic, parsley and olive oil and a salad.
There were a couple cups of tea involved here, too.
B--skipped it. I was late to class anyway. :|
L--free pizza (sausage) and a can of Coke.
Snack-- pumpkin spice frappucino from the Starbucks on campus.
D--leftover spaghetti from last night.
Snack--chai with milk and sugar and a bowl of cereal.

yesterday:
breakfast: 3 eggo nutri-grain waffles with margarine and light pancake syrup, plus tea with sugar.
lunch: tuna salad, avocado, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato on spinach wrap with diet coke
dinner: barilla spinach and cheese tortellini (1 cup) topped with margarine and shaved parmesan cheese
Also had some wheat thins before dinner and another diet coke with dinner. Usually I have orange juice with dinner but I was in a bad mood so I splurged with a soda.
today:
same breakfast.
lunch: muenster cheese on rye with tomato and russian dressing, plus a pickle.
dinner: 1/2 a cheese Tombstone pizza
Also more wheat thins before dinner. I don't usually snack like that but I expect it will continue until I finish the damn box (1-2 more days). And I had a couple of orange sticks (chocolate filled with orange jelly).
Tomorrow I will have the same breakfast, because it's what I always eat, unless I'm doing a long bike ride in which case I increase it to 4 waffles, or if I'm at my parents' house and it's Sunday, because then my mother will make breakfast for us. In summer I put fresh blueberries on the waffles.
For lunch tomorrow I'll probably go to Noodles & Co., in which case I'll have whole grain linguini with either mushroom stroganoff sauce and extra mushrooms or with a tomato cream sauce with mushrooms, tomatoes and extra spinach.
And lots of diet coke. It's my addiction.
p.s. grapes are on sale this week so my snack for the next week will be grapes.

This morning I went downstairs at 6 AM, to find 2 freshly made waffles waiting for me. I added 2 pieces of turkey bacon and a sliced peach from the farm stand, and coffee.
Oh oh. Writing this down made me remember that I forgot to take my calcium, and drink my V8. I guess the waffles startled me so much, I forgot my normal routine.
I wish I could have ridden to my internship today. I was jealous when DH rode off, even though it's 49 F out right now. I will ride (a very short ride) when I get home.

Oy, I started my day off in the wrong way again...but I was late so I skipped making my own breakfast (I need to stop this).
B: cinnamon chip scone, coffee w skim milk
S: none
L: 1 slice leftvover veggie pizza, 2 cups frozen veggies
S: none
D: not sure...probably leftover portuguese kale soup with french bread and a salad.
No snacking for me today since I'll be on the test floor or in the lab all day and no food or drink is allowed. I have to remind myself at least once an hour to go get a drink of water at least or I'll be terribly dehydrated by the end of the day, too.

Once I started cycling and lifting weights, I had to increase my caloric intake by about 500 calories because I kept gaining weight on my prior 1400 calorie/day "diet". It feels like a real chore for me to hit 1900-2000 calories a day, especially with healthy food. But, I started dropping weight once I did.
Today I've had/plan to have:
B: cinnamon raisin bagel with 2 TBSP light cream cheese, coffee + creamer
S: strawberry nutrigrain bar
L: Salad with grilled chicken and a diet pepsi
S: an apple with a TBSP of peanut butter
D: Leftover Kielbasa with scalloped potatoes
hmm.. according to livestrong, I'm only at 1300 calories, and tonight's a ride night. crap. Guess I'll throw in some ice cream for dessert and a pre-ride snack.

It's anyone's guess as to how all the highly processed 'foods' we Americans tend to eat would fit into these categories.

I had one of my left over mushroom and black bean whole wheat burritos for lunch, with an apple. snack was string cheese.
When I got home, I ate one slice of whole wheat bread with a little soy nut butter. Then I went for a 2-3 mile hike in the conservation land, including an uphill portion that is about a 25% grade at 2 points.
Dinner was one chicken breast, rubbed with curry powder, with an apricot jam/lemon juice sauce, sauteed in olive oil. I ate about a cup of whole wheat couscous, and a salad with romaine, grape tomatoes, and a tsp of vinagrette dressing. I did have a glass of red wine and my dessert was as always, 2 squares of dark chocolate.

"pre-breakfast" (oh-dark-30 before a breakfast meeting) - 2 slices light whole wheat toast with homemade apple butter
breakfast - steel cut oats with 1/2 banana and 1 T brown sugar
snack - yogurt, coffee with chocolate soy milk
lunch - Flatout light Italian wrap with 3 oz turkey, lettuce, mushrooms
snack - grapefruit
dinner (as soon as I get home from work will be...)- 4 oz fish simmered with tomatoes, mushrooms & onions. Wild rice. Steamed broccoli & cauliflower. Big green salad with homemade balsamic vinaigrette. Depending upon my mood, I may skip the rice in favor of red wine. ;) I only have 6.5 WW points left to spend on dinner, so I can't have both.

Monday nights in college I had band rehearsal at 6 pm (yes, I was in the marching band.) Dinner was usually a hot pretzel and a can of coke while standing in the hallway outside rehearsal room.
Ah, the good old days...
Today for lunch I went with the mushroom stroganoff from Noodles & Co. Also this morning I found a small bag of unsalted cashews that I had bought a couple of weeks ago during a long drive, so I had some of them for my pre-gym snack. Now for dinner I will have half a large baked potato topped with 2% milk cheddar cheese plus a glass of OJ.
Tomorrow for lunch I think I might go to Quiznos for an 8" tuna melt on wheat. With lots of pickles.

My weight has stabilized after about 3 weeks of losing weight, without trying. This seems to be part of my fibro. flare ups. It was hard to eat more without eating badly, if you know what I mean. I didn't want to pig out and start eating a lot of junk and sugar, just to keep my weight up, because, believe me, I normally just look at something and gain. So, I had a few days of guiltlessly eating lots of good carbs and Indian food!
OK, gotta go read my group therapy text. Only 230 pages to go.

I would like to enter the contest for the WORST diet of the day:
Breakfast:
Coffee with chocolate soymilk
Two strawberry Pop Tarts
Two DanActive "Probiotic Dairy Drinks"
Bike Ride (48 miles, pretty flat, avg. 17.5 mph, temp 95 hot degrees):
2 bottles Gatorade
Pack of HoneyStingers
1 Powerbar Gel
Lunch:
Large Carl's Jr. Strawberry Milkshake with Whipped Cream
Dinner:
3 slices Safeway Select lots-of-meat-on-it pizza (thin crust...which of course makes it so much more nutritious)
1 fresh pear
Lots of cherry tomatoes
Glass of skim milk
I may need some dessert later. You know, just to add some additional sugar and fat.
Good grief, I can't believe I've just admitted to this. My diet is not the greatest in general, but today was ATROCIOUS. But in my own defense, after a longish ride in the heat, my appetite gets really screwed up. Only certain things sound good. This doesn't explain the breakfast though :(

S: a couple of doughnut holes from the event I volunteered at.
L: Free pizza and a salad from the above event.
S: goldfish and chai with milk and sugar
D: Chicken coated in a mixture of salt, ground pepper, rosemary and thyme, cooked with onion, garlic, celery and carrot in a bit of butter and cooking sherry. Can of Blue Sky cream soda to drink.
Today:
B: white chocolate mocha from the campus Starbucks. I'm out of cereal and applesauce :(
L: PB&J and Dayquil
D: no idea, with a side of I'm lazy. We may be going to Applebee's to celebrate a friend's birthday, though.
Edit: We did end up going out. I got a burger and ate about half of it and most of the fries, a salad (ate all of it) and a very small bit of cheesecake for dessert.

Yesterday (fully supported ride, so I was eating what they had out) -
Started out with my usual breakfast, millet-rice-oatbran cereal with rice milk, walnuts and dried cranberries.
Two bottles of HEED (one scoop each)
Banana with a lot of PB
Some kind of granola bar
Sandwich: two slices wheat bread, two slices turkey-type pressed food product (yeah I know ), one leaf romaine lettuce, mustard, pickle slices, big handful of potato chips
Diluted Gatorade (thought I had HEED powder with me, turns out I was carrying an empty cylinder around )
Banana with not quite so much PB
More diluted Gatorade and plain water
Recovery snack: Key lime Larabar
Dinner: black-eyed pea chili with ground beef  (DH cooked). And beer. :) M**t three times in one week and twice in one day  It's going to be a looooong time before I have any more.
[ETA: probably not that long if we wind up at family's for Thanksgiving]
[edit again: realistically probably going to be having m**t NEXT weekend - another fully supported two-day ride, and my body really needs protein on a long ride. They normally put cheese out, but I don't do well with dairy and exercise - and it's too much to hope that they'll have my usual standby when I'm fueling myself, tuna salad. :p]
Late night snack: dry cereal

My weight was down again yesterday and I seriously took it as permission to eat a lot. Good thing, because yesterday was Rosh Hashanah, which started by DH making raisin challah french toast, of which I ate 3 pieces, with 2 pieces of turkey bacon, oj (4oz) and coffee. Then the fun began. After services, we went to a friend's for lunch. I had: 4 slices of turkey breast, rolled up with 2 pieces of provolone cheese (not low fat). 2 potato knishes (little ones), a small slice of challah with a little bit of chopped liver on it, fruit salad, a small piece of noodle pudding with no cheese in it, and a rugelah with 2 cups of coffee.
And I was hungry when I got home, so at around 7:30, DH made proscuitto and mozzarella paninis.
Today we went for a hard 30 mile ride in CT. Breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs, a whole wheat bagel with low fat cream cheese and lox, and tea. I ate a Luna bar as rode for the first 15 miles and drank a bottle of Accelerade. Lunch was a soy nut butter and jelly sandwich on whole wheat, followed by 6 apricots. I drank another half of a bottle of Accelerade and some plain water for the second half of the ride. After the ride we stopped at a cafe where I had a raspberry and chocolate chip scone and a mint iced tea.
Dinner was way too much Chinese food: 3 little scallion pancakes (fried), 2 Peking beef rolled up pancakes, a little curry cicken, and brown rice.
I am stuffed.

lunch/supper/I don't know- @ 3:00pm prepared by my mother after I buzzed back into Toronto before flying home to Vancouver:
white rice with homemade fresh tomato sauce and slices of chicken breast (I don't get picky ..when I hardly see mother ..for her to buy brown rice for me...it'll just sit around wasted at their home unused later.)

I haven't run in a week and only cycled once. (planned break from training) I feel gross. Perhaps it has to do with eating 2 hot dogs, 1 cheesburger and fries, 2 Haagen-Dazs ice cream bars (dark chocolate), 1 creme brulee, 1 margarita and 2 glasses of wine, and oh, beer after my century. Mind you this has been eaten over a week, but my stomach is protesting big time..too bad stomach and mouth cannot agree! And the cheesburger and fries were from McDonald's (gasp) - then I saw this video about a woman carrying around a cheesburger and fries from McDonald's for many years (no mold, barely any decomposition)- I'll have to find it and post it....

Saturday:
B: Eggs scrambled with peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, onions, zucchini, scallions & cheddar. Cantaloupe.
S: Vegan scone & soy latte from Peet's coffee
L & D (3pm, so it served as both): assorted sashimi, rice, agedashi tofu, saba shioyaki (grilled salted mackeral), miso soup.
Waaaaay too much food at this meal, considering the only thing that got exercised was my credit card while shopping for a new dress for a special occasion. ;)
Sunday:
B: 10 grain hot cereal. Cantaloupe.
S: 1/2 fruit/nut bar
Ride food (35 mile bike ride): Clif Bar
Lunch: An enormous meat, cheese & veggie calzone. It was enough for 2 people, but I ate it all nonetheless. I felt a little sick after. You ever have one of those meals when you *know* you should stop, but you just can't help yourself? That was this meal.
D: A whole lotta grapes picked fresh from the vine. I ate them as I picked them. :o
Before bed snack - Blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Boy oh boy, was this the capper to a total food day disaster, or what?! The blackberries were *also* fresh picked, and Jeff simply had to make cobbler. I have no willpower around Jeff's homemade cobblers!!

I was a very, very bad girl today... we ate brunch at a local winery. Yes, that means I drank wine. On the menu was pecan-crusted salmon, southern fried chicken, gorgonzola mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, spinach salad with strawberries and walnuts and a brown sugar vinegarette. OMG -- to die and go to heaven. For desert was cheesecake, key-lime tarts and chocolate covered strawberries.

Oatmeal with PB and raisins.
Plenty of Sencha green tea.
Warm blueberry-pomegranate juice.

Leftover gobhi masala (local cauliflower, garlic and onions, and homegrown hot peppers), masoor dal & rice.
A mixture of rice syrup and barley malt syrup and a pinch of sea salt in my gel flask on my long run.
Risotto with local lima beans, onion and garlic, and homegrown red Russian kale, with some imported parmigiano reggiano and aged balsamico on the side, and local white Cabernet Franc.
I did pretty good today. :) Maybe some of those amazingly delicious local grapes before bedtime.

No. :D
I'll fess up on yesterday.
B: oatmeal with raisins, sunflower seeds & coconut on top (my new favorite way to eat oatmeal!). 1/4 of a cantaloupe.
Snack: 2/3 of an everything bagel with peanut butter & jelly. (I simply can not resist peanut butter, even when I'm not hungry. :o)
Lunch: This is why the day *really* went awry. Jeff & I went to Papa Haydn's, a great restaurant in town, after a morning meeting. After working our way through 2 breadbaskets  of the yummiest french bread with this fabulous pepper butter, I then ate a sandwich comprised of focaccia, smoked turkey, applewood bacon, avocado, gorgonzola, lettuce, tomato & mustard. With a side of cucumber salad. And a pop. At least the pop was a diet. (Like that helps...)
I was soooooo full that I couldn't even think about food until late in the evening, when I had a small green salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Then, Jeff whipped out the chocolate/peanut butter dessert he took home from Papa Haydn's and I somehow managed to limit myself to just 3 bites. Then I had some grapes. I don't know why. I wasn't hungry.
So, Oak, there you have it. A food disaster post. :o

I wanna eat cr*p, but I have none in the house! Working from home eliminates the temptation to go out for lunch. And I'm one of those people who doesn't go grocery shopping until my cupboard is bare, which it is right now.
This morning I treated myself to a latte, even though it isn't Sunday (my usual coffee day). I also had a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and a slice of tomato.
A late lunch (it's 2pm and I'm just eating lunch) is MORE black beans and brown rice. I've been eating this for days. I made a big pot of spicy black beans in my slow cooker. I prefer white rice, and I usually mix the two, but I need to go to the grocery store!!
Tonight I'm having chicken biryani with more brown rice, and a green salad. I'll also get some ice cream at the store, since I haven't had ice cream in at least a month, maybe more. It's time! I'm thinking Dove vanilla with that dark chocolate shell swirled through. mmmm.

Deeiamond: One day will try the white fungus dessert. Presumably there is considerable sugar or honey in it since the fungus is pretty neutral by itself.
Fu gwa (bittergourd) I had 2 yrs. ago or so. Tastes good if properly stir-fried with beef or chicken, shitake mushrooms. Very high in a particular nutrient that some medical researchers are looking into extracting/examining possible use for drug therapy. My mother prepared it several times annually.

hi shootingstar,
i make the dessert myself, so I don't add as much sugar as the outside versions. If it were just for myself i'll use even less, probably skip the rock sugar, but for the whole family i need to do it normally. I seldom make it coz it can be pretty sweet.
here we fry the bittergourd with egg. and its very good. its good to drink raw bittergourd juice.
for herbal soup, I just boil a piece of pork with the chinese herbs, it was... a packaged box of herbs from the medicall hall... I dunno what they are called individually but this combination was for the liu wei qing bu tang - or the six flavour cooling tonic soup... then i add some chinese wolfberries at the end.
but to cut a long story short, i got side-tracked on my run and met some friends at a eating place and had some mutton satays instead. so i didn't have my dinner as stated.. hehhe...
bad bad eating out here in Singapore..

Are apples in Singapore expensive?
A Filipino woman told me they were in her country because the Philippines does not grow apples. We forget what is ordinary fruit to us, is more "extraordinary" naturally/locally elsewhere in the world. I had a Malaysian roommate who once tried to sneak past Customs, 6-lbs. of fresh cherries at the aiport from Canada when she went back to Malyasia to visit. No, her cherries were confiscated.

We import all our food, so prices in general are similar to the US. But we get food from EVERYWHERE. I get apples from the US, China, South Africa, Australia. Not a locavore obviously. But we don't grow food. Good apples are still more affordable and easy to find because of the quantities brought in. All fruit actually, similar to prices in the US these days. In Singapore at least.
B: wanton noodle in broth, black coffee
S: chinese pear, rice kueh
L: noodles in prawn broth, with 1 and half cups of blanched cauliflower and green beans

I think many of you TErs must be wondering about all these strange things I eat, its local stuff, and if anyone is ever interested I'll explain any of these items to everyone. :D We have great food here!
this week I'm involved in a marking exercise for a national exam, so no time for breakfast at home. I'll go back to more 'normal' food when i return to my regular schedule. ;)

______________________________________________________________________
We eat out a LOT lately, my honey's mom is dealing with inoperable bladder cancer so our schedules are all over the place, we grab a meal together whenever we can. I've started asking for a box when my meal is served and put half of it in there first thing. The other thing has been to eat a couple of bites and then set my fork down, we chat more and I don't feel like I'm wolfing my food down. Side benefit...I feel full before I've finished half a meal.

Thats actually a great idea.. I did the same thing too today!! (and I always do that when I'm in the US, portions are HUGE)
Rice Kueh - Kueh (pronounced Kway) is a malay/local word for cake, as in a sweet dessert cake. rice kuehs are made of rice flour, mixed with various colours, flavours and liquids, then steamed. The end result is a fragrant, dense, soft, chewy confection, not very sweet... kinda like... actually I can't think of anything american thats like that. Sometimes they use other flours, or mashed root vegetables such as tapioca or sweet potato.. then its something else- kueh.

This morning, after I managed to gulp down my Energen-C and vinegar concoction, I went out and had a latte. Jeez those things are expensive--$4.50!! Lucky for me, I prefer tea (made at home). I buzzed all day because of that latte.
In addition to the coffee buzz, I had a fruit smoothie that I made from frozen fruit, soy milk, and yogurt.
For lunch I made a turkey burger with cheese and tomato on an english muffin. And relish.
I had a bowl of Cheerios for a snack. Alas, I am out of bananas.
For dinner, I made myself a delightful little omelette with local eggs and swiss chard and herbs from my garden. It was delicous!

Shooting star - quinoa is a berry, that is ground like a grain, for flour. It has a texture like cous cous( but with little 'tails' ) when cooked for savory or can be flaked for cereal. It has more fat and more protein than grain.

this morning i woke late, so didn't have time for breakfast,a run or a long ride to work.
lunch was packed rice(white) with squid and 3 types of veggies
since it was mostly white rice and veggies, i was hungry again 4 hrs later, and guess what i had an egg sandwich (white bread!) and a sweet bun...
I think i figured out what makes me sleepy/tired... REFINED CARBS! I was soooo sluggy after that i almost fell asleep in front of the kids!
for tmw's lunch, i made curried lentil and cauliflower stew, with some boiled eggs. :)
I find that i really need to make the effort to prepare my lunches. somehow i feel much better, and i can schedule in exercise better.. it's tough though, cooking and planning...nothing comes easy i guess... sigh...
on a more upbeat note, 5 more school days till end of term, and 2 weeks till i go to the US to see my dearest boyfriend! I'm excited!!

My garlic press. I think it's an OXO. After buying a few cheapies over the years, which always ended up breaking or bending, I finally plunked down the $$ for an expensive one. This one is bombproof and will last me forever.
I used garlic almost everyday, and would not want to go back to mincing by hand.
It's also useful for mincing fresh ginger.
I also have to say how much I love my Henckels knives. A good quality knife set with decent heft is invaluable in the kitchen. Again, I use them every day and would be quite the frustrated cook without them.

I didn't eat enough today...
coffee (once a week), it was a delicious latte from my new kinda local cafe
finished off my loaf of bread I made on Monday. It lasted 3 days; that's pretty good. I had it with some Brie.
An apple.
I'll probably have some spaghetti and a salad for dinner.
It's not enough, but I'm working so much and kindof on auto mode and I lose may appetite when I get like that. Deadline is over this weekend so I'll get back to normal soon.

Ugh.
I took the day off today to attend the retirement luncheon for a dear friend of mine on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (it's a 2 hour drive to the restaurant, which is why it took the whole day). I scoped out the menu of the place on line - it all looked yummy - so I had a very light breakfast, anticipating a HUGE lunch. We got into town early, and we found the guest of honor at the local maritime museum. On a lark, I said to him "Hey, let's go to the restaurant before anyone gets there, and have a Bloody Mary while we're waiting!"
Well, they all thought that was just about the best idea since sliced bread!!
So off we went.
It ended up being a bloody day, indeed, for Mary, as pretty much all of the guests thought that sounded just fine!
And we didn't eat off the menu -- our guest of honor pre-ordered a buffet of local faves, including oyster stew (yum!), chicken Chesapeake (with lump crab, of course), rockfish, and various local and in-season veges. And cheesecake for dessert.
Oh, my. It was a feast to bust a gut. I don't think I'll be reporting in for that weight loss challenge this week! :o

I just discovered sweet potatoes.... YUM!!!! Stuck it in the oven for 45 mins or so, put some cinnamon one it, so good. Also had some baked zucchini and yellow squash with italian seasoning, garlic powder and minced onions.
I can't cook, but Im trying to learn some very-very-very easy and healthy options. Ive been eating raw veggies and fruits (and not so good stuff on the weekends) and Im exhausted, not making it through work outs.
Enjoy the learning process!
When you start roasting garlic cloves with the the zuchhini, it gets even yummier. Just take a couple of cloves (not the whole bulb if you don't like that much garlic) and cover lightly with foil, put on same sheet/ dish that has your zucchini. Might take abit longer than 45 min.

Brunch (I got up WAAY late today...): Cereal with 1% milk
S: Pumpkin spice latte.
D: Chicken cooked with onions and carrots, rice, cabbage. It would have been healthy if I hadn't insisted on cooking the onion+carrots...and the cabbage...and finishing the sauce for the chicken with butter. I think I used about a tablespoon and a half. It was really good and got the cabbage out of the fridge, though. Dessert was more chocolate than I care to admit.

I made a great dinner last night. Ground turkey mixed with on egg and chopped kale that I had previously cooked with olive oil and garlic. I made that into turkey-burgers. Along side that, I had mashed sweet potatoes with a bit of butter. I bought a bunch of sweet potatoes earlier in the week and baked them all and put them in the fridge. That way, all I have to do is heat them up quickly.
I also had some peas--they were canned but good, small, young peas.
And homemade bread, of course. And red wine, of course.
A delicious and healthy meal with lots of veggies. I didn't have any dessert--I was full!

Yum...is the farmer's market where I met you still going on in the winter (location not disclosed here)? I'll be in town next week and was thinking of going, if it's open.
It's open 8-12 this coming Saturday (11/21), Tuesday the 24th from 3-5:30 (the Turkey Day market!), and is closed for the Saturday after Thanksgiving (guess they figure everyone will still be stuffed!). It opens back up on 12/5, but the hours change to 10-12 for the winter. Hope you can make it - there's still lots of yummy food (we're getting great lettuce, good winter greens, there will be cheese, there might be one more week of mushrooms, and then they are gone for the season, and, of course, pies)!
I'm definitely going to have to borrow your Turkey Burger idea - it sounds fabulous!!

I skipped breakfast this morning...
Lunch: cup of coffee and a scone from Starbucks
S: a honeycrisp apple
Dinner: A leftover burger patty from last night broken up and mixed with leftover rice. It wasn't bad, considering the difference between the seasoning in the rice (it was green rice) and that in the burger. A couple of Cadbury's chocolate-covered digestives for dessert, and I think I'll follow that up with an apple.

Stir fry is a great way to use up leftover veges.
A bit of onion, left over broccoli, a couple sections of bell pepper, and a single salmon fillet, stir fried with soy sauce and wasabi, over rice.
Just enough to feed 2 with no leftovers.
Yum.

Today was a travel day for me. Curious how others manage healthy eating during travel, since the season is upon us. I typically don't have much of an appetite when I am sitting on planes all day, but I do need to have something in my stomach.
Coffee and a stale donut for breakfast, then an hour of Pilates then straight to the airport. I only had time to get another coffee and a ham/swiss ciabatta sandwich at Starbucks. The sandwich was so-so, but at least it was better than the snack box (three different kinds of crackers, chips, fake cheese spread) that they offered. Ate half the sandwich before getting on flight #1, which was four hours. Ate the second half before getting on flight #2.
Maybe it was the airports I was passing through today, but NOTHING looked appetizing, so I chose portability above all.
Had a nice bowl of Taiwanese rice porridge when I finally arrived at my parents' place.

Red, there certainly wasn't "no" fruit or vegetables in what you described. A bit light maybe, but not at all absent.
Raw fruits and vegetables aren't necessarily the best thing for everyone, especially as the weather gets colder. Some people do very well with raw produce, others not so much. It's possible you might find it easier to put more vegetables into your diet if you stop trying to eat them raw?

That's interesting. I hadn't heard that raw isn't always ideal before. In fact, it's kind of been drilled into me, and I do have digestion issues with some raw foods. Still, I though I was supposed to be eating them, so I'd plan around it.
