In Internet terminology, a troll is often someone who comes into an established community such as an online discussion forum, and posts inflammatory, rude, repetitive or offensive messages designed intentionally to annoy or antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion, including the personal attack of calling others trolls. Often, trolls assume multiple aliases, or sock puppets.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Probably ~35 mph riding through old Ellicott City

Whoa... Was that with or without all the traffic and antique shoppers?

Welcome to the board, Allison. Cool to see another DC/Md area person. Just out of curiosity, are there any good bike shops over your way? I've hit just about every shop in MoCo and FredCo, so I need to check out (haunt, stalk, whatever...) the ones over closer to B'more.

Thanks! The historic part of Ellicott City is a ghost town early on weekend mornings - there are mornings where the only things I see through that stretch are parked cars and green traffic lights! When it is crowded with traffic and antique shoppers, I don't want to be there in a car... and certainly not on my bike! There are some other fun hills in that area, but I'm not confident enough to navigate the twists and turns on those hills with any sort of speed.

In terms of local bike shops... it depends on what you're looking for, but I have not found a one stop shop. For service (and special orders), I really like Bike Doctor in Linthicum, just a few minutes from the BWI loop. While the store is small and they don't have much stock, Jeff and his staff have always been great and ordered things for me without a problem. Race Pace opened a large store in Columbia that has a better than average selection of women's apparel, but I've not been thrilled with the service in the store. The Race Pace in Ellicott City has (or at least had) a female mechanic, and I've been told that she is very helpful, but I haven't had a chance to talk to her.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: what does this have to do with riding? i lied to my friend when i was 10 and i've felt bad about it ever since.

Most memorable moment on my bike: when i got my first bike when i was 9, i remember riding all over the neighborhood in the afternoons, my homelife was horrific so i always got so happy when i was on my bike i actually sang almost the whole time i rode. i was almost mute when i was a kid so that was really something. i always wonder what that looked like, a little girl singing at the top of her voice down the middle of the street on a bicycle. lol!

Most fun ever had on a bike? refer to above.

I stopped in that Race Pace yesterday on the way home from the Charm City 'Cross race. I didn't see a female mechanic, but the guys in the shop were very helpful when I asked about cold weather apparel. That shop has got to be the biggest bike shop I've seen yet, I'll have to check out the one in Columbia, too.

It's not often I run across a fellow grunge fan. For some reason, I didn't get into grunge when it was in it's heyday, but I must be regressing because I love it now. I'm a Soundgarden junkie, myself. Good to see that particular genre's still appreciated :D

Explanation of your handle: Easy to remember my own name.

Explanation of your avatar: N/A

Age (general or specific): 47

Occupation: Software engineer (formerly orthopaedic surgeon)

Favorite bike: I like both of mine

What's in your stable? Viscount Gran Sport (c. 1977)
Trek 7100 hybrid (c. ?)

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Dont know. Fastest speed recently, 19.4mph on a local bike/run path, flat, slight tailwind. I'm just getting back into cycling again after a 6 year hiatus.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I'll have to think about that one.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: "They say you either love it here (NYC) or hate it here, but I really don't fall in either category" (I hated it).

Most memorable moments on my bike:
- First ride without training wheels. I had been stuck sharing a training wheeled bike with my little sister for months after I was ready to move up. A neighbor got a new bike and gave me her old one, which was too small. I straddled it, and she was explaining to me how to ride it but I already knew. Before she even had a chance to help me get started, I was off!
- Riding to high school in the sleet.
- Drafting a much stronger rider (friend of mine) up and down hills in the Fingerlakes area of New York on the longest ride I think I've ever done (some 40+ miles of hills).
- Getting attacked by three kids on the lakefront bike path in Chicago when I was in medical school. My helmet and gynmastics training (and years of "practicing" fending off attacks in my dreams) made me fearless, and after jumping off the bike and rolling, I was immediately on my feet and advancing on the one that brought me down, fists clenched, bellowing "GET OUT OF HERE! GET OUT OF HERE! GET OUT OF HERE!" at the top of my lungs. The three decided it wasn't worth it (they were probably trying to steal my bike) and lit out. All I lost was one reflective pant leg cuff. No injuries, just some muscle stiffness the next day. The adrenaline high lasted for a week. My heart beats faster just recounting the story.

Most fun ever had on a bike? That would have to be 10 days cycling through Bourgogne (Burgundy area of France) with a group of about 30, half French, half American, mostly teenagers (I was 20 or 21) with a half a dozen chaperones. We camped, stayed in a few dormitories and hostels, did a lot of winery tours, a lot of eating, and some sightseeing. Full sag wagon, rented 10-speed touring bikes, averaged 20-30 miles/day (or was it 20-30km?) in rolling hills. It was a blast.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I don’t have any with me at the moment.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Going to SF with the bf and meeting one of his friends and riding across the GG Bridge, thru Sausalito and around Tiburon Loop and back, a 53-mile ride with beautiful views. The other was my first organized ride the other weekend. It was a 50 miler, and it sure wasn’t boring and consisted of a couple of firsts for me. There was lots of rain, fog, wind, +5000’ of climbing and I ended up with 2 flats. It was a fun ride and everyone was really friendly.

Where do you live: Milwaukee, WI area

Explanation of your handle: Last name of my psuedonym, Cassandra Thorn. Not that I've done any writing, but it describes me, at least with respect to work. Cassandra, as in, forced to speak the truth, but no one believed her; Thorn, as in a thorn in management's side I shall remain.

What's in your stable? A Cannondale Hybrid and a late 80's model Cannondale road bike--I just can't part with the latter because it was my first real bike.

Fastest speed on a road bike? Wouldn't it be more appopriate at my age to talk about the slowest speed on a road bike? Seriously, I refuse to put a computer on my bike--better to think I'm flying at 30mph than to know I'm barely keeping 14mph.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Uh....no pictures of self...the camera steals your soul.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Hmm...how about...."I just found this forum" Naw...I've been lurking for a very long time.

Most memorable/fun moment on a bike: Mallorca. My biking heart lies on the island (http://www.cassandrathorn.com/images/2006Mallorca.htm or
http://www.cassandrathorn.com/images/2003Mallorca.htm). The island is awesome--a cyclist's paradise in winter. My SE (Similar Entity) and I do active vacations. It started as hiking, but the group we travel with (through UW-Stevens Point) had a winter biking trip to Mallorca. That trip did bicycle rentals and not heavy, thick steel bombers, either--nice $1500-range road bikes. We signed up and got hooked on cycling. Now more than 1/2 our trips are cycling, but Mallorca remains the most memorable. We've been back and will be back again.

Welcome Miranda, Tali and Thorn!!

Tali- Now I feel awful for paging my doctor. :p Actually the only time was when my DH was terribly ill. The first time he ended up at the ER, the second time was a few days later and he ended up at the hospital the next morning. I bother my insurance's on-call nurse for silly stuff like "How long can I wait to get a tetnus shot for this cut I got on some rusty building materials?"

Thorn- Mallorca is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing those pictures. Mallorca makes my list of "Must See" travels.

Hey Bikewriter!

I don't have the Madeline, but I do have a 2004 Classic which is the precursor to the Madeline. I LOVE her! I bought her to use as my commuter but I love the fit of the bike so much, I'm now shopping for an Isis to replace my 'go fast' bike. I know that a lot of changes have been made to the Madeline recently with the two most noticeable being the addition of drop bars (mine are straight) and the material being aluminimum (mine is steel). I don't know if anything has changed on the geometry or specs, but the new Madelines sure are pretty! :D

Anyway, welcome to TE!

And welcome to all the other new members, too!! :)

Thanks for the welcomes! We grow lots of stuff but have not grown parsnips the last couple of years, just because we had to prioritize. But I love them and am hoping to grow them next year.

For today, we're ditching the farm in favor of a ride over by Madison - one of the last warm days of the year, I think - and a visit to the bike shop. :)

PS. Another one, long story short: my bf is a tad taller than me, very slender and a natural athlete, needs hardly any exercise at all to stay fit. I'm the opposite, heavy boned and need a lot of regular exercise. Heh, when I moved out to California my perception of distance changed dramatically. When I grew up an hours' drive anyplace was considered a Big Deal (what! Drive to Springfield! ). Where I live now, a 50 minute drive is considered a "reasonable" commute :p

Hi all,

I'm embarrassed to say that I've been in and out of lurkdom here for several years. I'm generally a quiet sort who listens (and reads) more than she talks, but lately I've felt like chiming into some of the threads. I didn't want to do that without saying hello and introducing myself first.

Real name: Virginia

Where do you live? Morgan Hill, CA

Explanation of your handle: My height - 5' 1"

Explanation of your avatar: None yet. I may need some instruction how to insert one at some point.

Age (general or specific) 54

Occupation: Accounting. I was a Home Ec major (way back when there was such a thing), but took a wrong turn somewhere...

Favorite bike: Not sure, but I'm always looking.

What's in your stable? 1999 Bianchi Eros in celeste.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 39.9 mph on Pentz Rd. coming out of Paradise on the 2003 Chico Wildflower.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I try to steer clear of cameras.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Can't really come up with one.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Good memorable - finishing my first century - Tahoe, 2003 for Team in Training. Bad memorable - feeling myself being sucked into the draft of a passing semi in southwestern PA while on a multi-day tour in 2004. It was a two lane highway with no shoulder. He couldn't pass because of oncoming traffic. When he did pass, it was *real* close and he blew his airhorn at me. Scared the crap out of me and as soon as I could pull off the road, I had a complete meltdown and bagged it for the day. I did ride the next day and completed the tour though. What is the biggest lie you've ever told: About riding or just in general?

Most memorable moment on my bike: Finishing my first Century this November. It inspired me to write the following ditty, based on the song "Country Club" by Travis Tritt (are there any country fans out there?)

Well I'm a member of the Century Club
Century riding is what I love
I ride a Trek 1000, nicknamed "Ice"
the ride is sweet and oh so nice
Yea I'm a bona-fide pedaling fool
I pray my tires don't flat which require a tool
Along the 100 mile route with an extra mile or two
I'm a member of the Century Club

Most fun ever had on a bike? The day I realized I could actually ride 100 miles in one day!!!. It meant more to me than anything I have accomplished in a long time....

Hello again everyone! I fell off the planet...

I did the NYCC training series in the spring, got turned down for a job with Backroads, worked 6 days a week in the summer then worked in Italy for 3 months without a bike (nor funds to get one.)

I'm back in NYC and althought I really like NY, I think the timing is right for me to move on back to San Francisco. I spend more time looking at webcams of SF than out in the hustle 'n' bustle of NYC.

I look forward to finding friends in the cycling community there!

If anyone in the city is looking for a roommate for Feb 1, please let me know! :-)

Orion - I grew up riding. I rode for about 10 years until a stupid car accident that prevent(s) me from riding anymore. My 16th birthday present was a full lease on the sweetest TB in the world who was an ex-race horse. I leased Willie for about 4 months and then my accident. I was soooooo freaking pissed.

The experiences that I've had with QHs is that their such smart asses. They're extremely intelligent and have way too much personality for their own good. One had to have like 5 locks on his stall door because he could get out of anything...nicknamed Houdini.

Hi, I am new here, too! I am just getting into cycling as a way to liven up my fitness regime. I have been lifting weights and doing mostly indoor cardio for about 20 years, and really needed something new to do. My husband has been riding for a couple of years, so I have decided to join him on the road.

My husband bought me a Blue (that's the brand and the color!) RC.4 bike for Christmas. It's a great bike and probably like buying a Lippizan horse for a cowboy! It's light and fast and I like it a lot. I just need to get some miles under my belt, as I haven't ridden a bike on the road in about 10 years.

I have been reading the board and am impressed by the comaraderie, as well as the variety of riders here. I look forward to spending some time here as well.

Have a great day!

Gee, 3 newbys in a row!

Siera, Ebet and Beth!

Ebet, your recumbent looks very comfy, and not as low to the ground as others. Thanks for letting us see you, it helps with the imagination..

Siera, Iogato is an interesting name, in Italian io gatto would mean I , cat.

and then there's my own screen name, mimitabby, which is kind of the same thing, I, cat.. :D

and Beth, i have similar thoughts while going down hill.

welcome you all, to TE and settle in and get to know us.

Yeah, I know this one.
It's sometimes called "the zone", sometimes called "being at one with the Universe" (or similar spiritual-sounding term) and sometimes called stark raving mad
Any way, once you have felt it there is no going back...

Yeah, me and my DH too...we ride down the back farm roads, calling to the horses and cows ("Hi babies!"), calling out the kitties, barking back at dogs, etc.
One delapidated farm often has its animals wandering all over the road- bulls, horses, giant pigs, guinea hens and chickens... one time their huge turkey hen decided to trot along right alongside my bike for a 1/4 mile down the road. I wasn't sure what to make of it- was she trying to drive me away or in love with my bike??

Well, I am also a member of Team Bag Balm...... I think most of our group will moo at the cows we see - we definitely moo when we see each other :)

I usually talk nice to the barking dogs. It surprises them, and they sometimes stop barking to hear what I am saying..... "well aren't you a pretty dog? why are you barking so loud? are you having fun or are all these bikes scaring you? etc, etc,

Occupation: I say deputy circus master, but I'm the Deputy Director for Collections at a historical society & museum

Favorite bike: Mmmmm, bikes...Today, I wish I had a Van Dessel Gin & Trombones; tomorrow, it could be a Pashley Princess Sovereign

What's in your stable? Pale Horse: mid 1990s Gary Fisher Aquila that I commute on year-round; Mrs. Slocum, a 1969 Raleigh Superbe step-thru 3 speed for summer skirt-wearing commuting; and the Sea Snail, a CDale Optimo 3 Cross racer

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? No computer on the Sea Snail yet, but 22.5 mph on the Aquila commuting down Power Street today

Another picture of yourself or your ride? There are some on my blog & I need to take more....

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Blessedly, I have forgotten whatever it was!

Most memorable moment on my bike: Crashing on the bike path near Belmont Harbor in Chicago, riding with my Dad as a kid and scraping up my legs, so that a sun bather had to help me clean up. And the time that my coaster brake failed in Lincoln Park & I had to ride across the road w/o stopping....not long after that I got my first "real" bike with a 3-speed hub and hand brakes.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Every single ride! Well, almost. So far, the day I trimmed 2 minutes off the commute home. After that, test riding the CDale was pretty awesome all around.

feel better now that i know lots of you are as crazy as me :D

roos... make a click click sound... i dont know how to type it! ever seen skippy? "click click, what's up skip?"

riding home from uni one arvo i came up over a hill and as i crested the hill (on the bike path, about 500 metres from houses) i came face to face with an adolescent male roo cresting the hill from the other side. We both screeched to a stop (he was on the bike path too) and just looked at each other. it was so funny, shame it wasnt on video :D

i'm a bit scared of big roos (they can rip you open with their back legs) so i just kind of stood there not moving and after about 30 secs he turned around and hopped away back down the bike path. i started up and followed him at a distance...very funny. the shock on both our faces when we both came over the hill at the same time and came face to face must have looked funny.

totally agreee re snakes cc.... ugh :( luckily havent come across one.. probably cos i'm always on the bike path :o

Age (general or specific):41, turning 42 day after tomorrow!

Occupation: p/t IT instructor, independent tech integration consultant and prof development instructor in grades k-12

Favorite bike: Although I just adore all the gorgeous whiz bang high tech bikes out there, I have a tender spot for my own steed because she is what got me turned on to road cycling.

What's in your stable? 2006 Trek 1000 WSD, gave away my Trek mtb to my mom.

Fastest speed on a road bike? hmmm.. good question. Don't really know, I haven't been outside off the trainer for a couple of months now.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? umm.. they know better than to take pics of me in spandex!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Sure, I'd love to.

Most memorable moment on my bike: At the moment its a toss up between the day a rider new to my area stopped suddenly at a non stop intersection (no cross traffic option passing in front of our path) and I ended up crashing because I know the area and knew ASSUMED no stop was coming. I'm still in PT getting my knee worked on after blowing it out 4 mos ago.

Second most memorable moment was hauling up a hill and cresting at the top, coasting to a stop next to DH. I was PUMPED. What a thrill!

Most fun ever had on a bike? Getting up early, before the summer heat kicks in, before the commuter traffic builds up, taking her east, to the coastline, and just opening up, long flat ride along the ocean.

Explanation of your avatar: I liked it -- pretty and a bike theme.

Age (general or specific): 43, as of this month (January)

Occupation: full-time mom; part-time sales rep for food broker

Favorite bike: Italian heritage, European geometry, and just my size!

What's in your stable? Battaglin Compact Carbon with full Campy Carbon drivetrain and Topolino wheels; traditional '98 Bianchi steel frame (haven't decided what to do with it yet); and, an old Giant hardtail mountain bike I use for both easy trail riding and quick runs to the grocery store (when I take the time to change the tires to slicks)

Fastest speed on a road bike? almost 50 on a downhill (I think) -- wouldn't that be super if it was an uphill?! what is life without dreams?

Real name: Barbara
Where do you live? Denton, Texas

Explanation of your handle: well , being named Barbara, my brother, Drew, called me Babz - he added the Z for my middle name, Zoe. Drew died as a result of a nasty cancer and he was an avid athlete and cyclist so I did my first Ride for the Roses in his honor - I think it's proper that I choose his "handle" for me.

Explanation of your avatar: avatar? I had to look it up... say what you mean - mean what you say .... and I guess try to speak in terms of what you want

Age Just turned 47 in January!

Occupation: my day job is in sales, but I'm an artist and my current muse is a one of a kind recycled clothing line called bibelo - I'm represented in a local boutique and plan to be able to go to market in the Fall!! I'm also working on getting a teaching certificate.

Favorite bike: That would be the Centurian Super Lemans - Black Bart - that I rode in college!

What's in your stable? Two Treks - and a lot of dust bunnies

Fastest speed on a road bike? I think it was 38mph going down hill at a ride up in Munster but that was only before I got nervous ... I'm kind of a cruiser really.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I'll have to figure out where they are archived and get back to you

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: well ... I am in sales so I tell a lot of stories ..... plus I just make up goofy stuff for the heck of it just to see how someone will react - but I'm not a devious malicious liar - I'd rather be sort of like the dad in Big Fish.

Most memorable moment on my bike: there are a whole series of them - last spring I decided to begin triathlon training and my then 17 year old daughter said - "I want to do that with you" ... so I was thrilled and privleged to have her as a riding buddy. We had a blast on our actual race day but each training ride was a real treat! :)

Most fun ever had on a bike? I guess it would have to be those last couple of seconds of balance before crashing into a sandy curve out at a trail at lake grapevine - it was even funnier because I had just emptied a bottle of water over my head so when I stood up I looked like a snickerdoodle dipped in sand and ready for the oven!

I'm getting rather bored!

I hear 'ya! I've thought about going into a new area of law, but.... Now that I know what I'm doing, it takes less time to do it. Which means I can leave at a normal time and still get home with the hopes of being able to do something fun.

Explanation of your avatar: Never figured those things out.

Favorite bike: So far, Specialized Ruby

What's in your stable? Some mountain bike of my mom's. I know it's horrible that I don't know what it is! I think it's a Trek. I used it for schlepping kids all over town in a Burley last summer.

Fastest speed on a road bike? No idea. can't wait to find out!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Ha! Someday, maybe.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Again, no idea. I try not to lie if I can avoid it. So is that lying, somehow?

Most memorable moment on my bike: I should do this again after I actually get started on biking - instead of biking on an exercise bike.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Family ride across Madeline Island in Lake Superior. It was fun, but my husband and I took turns pulling the Burley and had bad seats, so we were hurting afterwards!

Hey bopeep..

Since you're in windy & hilly wellington I must ask you, have you done any riding around Makara(right place name?) Peak?

Where in Eastern Canada did you go? Sounds like you went to Newfoundland? Nice to see a Kiwi actually recognize that Canada exists beyond T.Dot.!! (Grrr..pet peeve..yes there's more to Canada than just Vancouver or T.Dot. )

Pehaps when we go back to visit family in NZ, we might just make it down you way.

Hey CC;
Yup, have done heaps of riding at Makara Peak, as it is one of my faves, and I try and get there as often as I can. Can ride on the road to there in about 40 mins, or over hills and tracks in about 2 hours-ish, either way it works for me.

Yup again, I was indeed talking abut Newfoundland, I was born, and lived, there til the end of high school. I get back whenever I can. A few years back a kiwi friend and I cycled toured across the province on the Trans Canada Trail, always a dream of mine, and one of the best trips ever.

Hope you do make it down this way sometime, heaps of great ridingand getting better all the time.

Cheers

Just a week of R&R at Gunflint Lodge ;) We took the dog, who had a grand time with all the hiking. Let's see.. tried snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and XC skiing, went on a dog sled ride (whee!), and took a late night sled ride. Other than that, read a book a day, slept, and ate.

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for the warm welcome!

My DH and I were in Seattle summer before last to see a concert. We were doing some site seeinig and went to the area where the Seattle Space Needle and the museums are.

This thing outside was a bike on a rail going around! No tires, just a rim! I walked up there by the stiar case you see in the back. About one or so stories off the ground. Actually, below me was a shallow pond and a net. But I was feebly strapped in at the waist. I wanted to slow down and wave at DH, but I could not. The guy just kept saying "Keep Pedaling!" So I did! LOL

What you don't see is a bar coming off the base of the bike thingy, going straight down and a large weight at the bottom to help keep you balanced. I wanted DH to get a complete picture. But I will settle for what we got. I was scared, but did it anyway. Would have been dissapointed with myself if I did not do it at least once. :D

Glad you enjoyed the pic!

Mimitabby: I see you are from Seattle. Do you know this place? I really fell in love with Seattle. I really enjoyed our visit. Very eclectic; really nice people too!
BTW, I have a Bianchi bike...can I get my pic on the TE Bianchi-girl page too? I do get lots of comments on it due to the color, I think.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Nope

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: response to "how are you this morning?" from boss - "I'm fine" If you tell him the truth, it'd be an hour long discussion about something most likely unrelated!

Most memorable moment on my bike: Making my first outing on the highway acess road using the lane like a "real" cyclist (this was a BIG deal - I was seriously afraid of being ran over by huge pickups in "bubba-land")

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I'm with the gals that can't remember:):)

Most memorable moment on my bike:
A number of years ago I did a 3 day trip called the Golden triangle in BC Canada- The ride went from Castle Mtn Junction to Inveremere then to Golden and back to Castlemtn Junction. Riding down the pass in the pouring rain going a little too fast a moutain goat came out on to the road and ran along beside me. I can tell you they are a lot bigger close up! I was thankful there was no accident for either of us- It was an awe inspiring moment- I only wish there were other riders near to experience it too!

Most fun ever had on a bike?

That moment put all the segments of my life together and it was the strangest and most incredible feeling.

Most fun ever had on a bike? When I first started riding and didn't care about things like average, I was on a mountain bike. Explanation of your avatar: my cat- who just happens to be orange

Age (general or specific) 47

Occupation: gardener

Favorite bike: my mtn. bike-Trek 8000- feels so smooth and easy to ride

What's in your stable? Trek 8000 and Soma Smoothie ES

Fastest speed on a road bike? Not sure, maybe 25mph - I don't go fast generally

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: hmmmm......

Most memorable moment on my bike: I've had many- maybe a mountain bike ride I took with some friends many years ago outside SanDiego. I was new to mtn. biking and they took me straight up a mountain road and straight down again. They flew down the hill out of sight, so I made my way down the mountain solo. It felt awesome to be riding through the woods on a dirt path.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Last fall doing a Team Lunachix sponsored night ride that took us up and down some major hills and through the woods, for about three hours, half of it in the dark (well, we had lights). I was so energized by that ride. Never had done anything quite like it before.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Witnessing a bad accident in Brooklyn. No one was hurt.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Riding alongside the Verrazano bridge at Sunset. Then riding into Coney Island and eating at a good Turkish restaurant...then riding home. All in all only 25 miles or so, but since the neighborhoods are so different, it seemed as if I was worlds away.

What's in your stable? Terry Classic (selling), Rodriguez Adventure being built as I write. DH finally finished building the wheels, yeah!

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 24 going downhill in Milwaukie, OR where I used to live, as I'm a scaredy cat about going too fast. Averaged 12 mph once which is fast for me (but one has to start somewhere I guess).

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Here is a picture of me towing my daughter on a ride on July 4 this past summer.

http://www.rideyourbike.com/images/xtracycle/7-4-06xtracycleride/12.jpg

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Try not to lie but sometimes will if people press me about stuff that is not their business.

Most memorable moment on my bike: I did the Bridge Pedal in Portland a few years ago by myself because DH had drill that weekend. I was really apprehensive about doing it on my own as at the time it was the longest I have ever ridden. Everyone was so supportive and I was proud of myself for staying on my bike on all the hills and bridges. I have to admit, it was a nice feeling to pass all those people stopped or walking up the hills. Of course, I was in my granny gears. ;) Thank goodness for granny gears.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Gee. Riding always make me grin(when I'm not whining about something not working properly, anyways:o) And that sure was fun riding around Seattle with friends before picnicking at a park which is when the above picture was taken. Hopefully there will be more of that happening for me soon.

What's in your stable? Terry Classic (that I'm selling), Custom Rodriguez Adventure being built as we speak(come on guys, you really ought naught keep a women waiting:p )

Most memorable moment on my bike: When I did the Bridge Pedal a few years ago. My SO had drill so I had to go it alone. Of course I was in my granny gears.:o Thank the stars for those.:D

Most fun ever had on a bike? Gee. Riding always seems to put a big goofy grin on my face! But when I can do it with friends, that's the best.:D

Age (general or specific) 26

Occupation: Health

Favorite bike: Orbea make beautiful bikes. BT make great track bikes, but i don't ride track - i just like to look at the bikes.

What's in your stable? Alchemy Millward 2004 (Ultegra model)

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? about 75km/hr - not sure in mph. After coming down a really steep little hill in a rural part of Queensland - the hill leads on to a gently downward sloping long mostly straight section, so the momentum just keeps building.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I don't have very many pics of myself.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Sometimes when i was young i'd lie to my parents about where i was going and what i was doing - that's about it.

Most memorable moment on my bike: I completed this huge 100km bike race - i was like the only girl in it, and the moment i remember is passing some tough guys when i was going up a hill near the end - they never caught up and i finished somewhere in the middle numbers. That was when i was fit.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Playing a game i call "Oops, my wheel slipped" when riding in a bunch through puddles after rain. The aim is to splash as much water and mud as possible from the puddle on to the rider behind you. It's not an official game - it's just mucking around and is great fun on a warm summer morning.

Hey Cheryl

I was actually in Perth last August for about a week but I think this time I'll be back on the East Coast. Sydney and Townsville (I was there for 6 mo. back in 2004).

It'll be a year next week since I arrived here, and will probably be here for another 2 years. I'm looking forward to meeting some ladies to go riding with. Around here I haven't found too many, so its usually me when I ride. We just bought my husband a road bike and he seems to like it (we'll see!).

Where do you live? A small town in Chle.

Explanation of your handle: I live in Chile, and I'm a foodie.

Explanation of your avatar: ...

Age (general or specific): 42

Occupation: Freelance editor and translator.

Favorite bike: I rather like the one I'm riding (for now anyway).

What's in your stable? 1991 Miyata 914. I bought it new and then only used it a couple of seasons before moving somewhere that really wasn't good for cycling. I just started up again in January, so I still think of it as my new bike. Oh--I also have a Trek MB of some sort.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? That would be screaming down Oakville Grade back in the day. No idea what my speed was.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Sorry--don't do pictures.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: ...

Most memorable moment on my bike: Being sideswiped by a bus. I was descending and he was passing on a curve coming up. That's when I decided cycling in Chile probably wasn't a good idea (at least back then).

Another picture of yourself or your ride? this is my first post here..how do I do that?

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: ??

Most memorable moment on my bike: Just YESTERDAY! I nearly pulled a Molleta on a downhill curve...went off road...thought I was going to bite it big-time (trees on each side..downhill embankments, you name it..I thought i was going to hit it). Luckily the road curved back my way and I was able to get back on the road.. I didn't even flat out... Unbelievable. This will be my "Jesus really must love me" story for quite some time. The ground was so bumpy, I couldn't see...I just knew I was gonna hit a hole in that grass and flip..I was preparing for PAIN. <pant pant> I still cant believe I made it outta that.

Most fun ever had on a bike?: Oh gosh.. I don't know... After finally recovering from an auto accident, 8yrs off the bike, back (fusion) surgery and recovery... just about any ride is wonderful. Don't you love it when you're out and all the sudden just realize how great it is to be out in the middle of "no where", but surrounded by so much beauty...and feel the wind on your skin.. ahhhhhhhh

I've been a TE gal since stumbling upon it when desperately searching for COOL women's gear last year. Thank goodness for TE!!!! I finally decided to join in on the fun here at the forums!

Welcome to the forums BabyBlueinTulsa.

BTW - I really like your handle. It has a very John Lee Hooker sorta feel to it.

I'm glad you made it through your "Molleta" incident OK. I had a similar experience once, on a mountain bike involving a tree, a spectacular dismount and me somehow landing on both feet and running out of the way of my hurtling bike. Phew. Feels good to know someone's watching out for you.

Biggest lie I've ever told: I'm going to have to come back to this one. There are a few out there.

Most memorable moment on a bike: Once upon a time, I was heading up the Angeles Crest Highway on my old mountain bike. The Angeles Crest Highway is just one long steep road into the mountains; since I was slow, and on a mountain bike, the folks I was with had left me behind long ago. About midway, I pulled into a lookout to stop and drink some water and get a bite. After a minute or two, two big - really big - biker guys on Harleys pulled into the same lookout point. Long hair, long beards, leather vests, bandanas - these guys were the real deal. Gulp, I said to myself. I tried to be nonchalant as they approached me.

"Did you ride that - " pointing to my bike, "- all the way up here?" one of them asked. He even talked like a biker, growly voice and all.

"Yep," I told them.

"Man," said the big biker guy, "you're tough!"

Heh. The big scary biker guys said I was tough. Sweet.

Most fun ever had on a bike: No one episode sticks out. I just know that I'm super-happy most of the time I'm riding.

Welcome, to a bike forum with lots of collective wisdom and fun-inspirational beings. Rebran, I'm excited there is another SD bicyclist!!!! I'm way past the days of toting kids on my bike but remember what great fun it was for both of us. One of my most memorable bike trips was Ragbrai, because we participated with the whole family. Our 11 year old twins rode their own bike and my husband pulled the bike-a-boose with our other 3 kid aboard.
