Occupation: Graduate student in architecture.

Favorite bike: As of right now I know very little about much else, so I'll just have to say my own, which is a 1975 Peugeot u-08 which my boyfriend converted to a minimalist single speed before giving it to me. He was bound and determined to strip it of every vestigial gear, switch, plate, and wire before gifting it. But much to his dismay, I have since tricked it out with a bell, old-school snap-rack, big rear Wald basket, and the original chrome chainguard thing that I ignorantly refer to as a hubcap. :) I don't know why, but I'm a fan of all of the bells and whistles. Streamers might be next. ;)

What's in your stable? Just the bike mentioned above.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I cannot admit.

Most memorable moment on my bike: This isn't actually from when I was riding my bike but a couple of years ago I was out mountain biking with a friend. There were quite a few people hiking the trail at the time and though people usually move out of the way for mountain bikers around here...this particular day they didn't! I had a choice to either sacrifice myself down the side of the trail or hit the people (not sure what they were thinking and I didn't have time to make a graceful stop)...needless to say I took a digger but finished the trail instead of heading back...had to help my friend clean up the blood spots on the bike though.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I am not crazy about pics of myself in spandex....:)

Most memorable moment on my bike: Crossing the finish line at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after the Tour de Cure, getting off my bike, kneeling down to the track and kissing the bricks on the finish line, as is customary at the end of any race there. What a thrill!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told:I try to avoid lies...especially big ones, they're too heavy to have to carry.

Most memorable moment on my bike:well, just change it to a bike and the most memorable moment is when my brother taught me how to ride. He told me to just sit on it push off with my foot three times and start pedaling. We lived on a dirt(gravel) road on top of a very tall hill. I took off down the road and along came a care well I got over but I was going pretty fast and my brother failed to tell me how to stop the bike. So I put both feet down, fell and got gravel rash on my knees and elbows along with gravel in my knees and elbows. Might be why I feel a teensy bit nervous too this day going downhill very fast, even though I know how to stop without falling over. I also know it hurts when you hit the ground.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Nearly everytime is fun. I love riding down our street with my 11 year-old dd nowadays.

Most memorable moment on my bike: I had just finished my first 20-mile ride with clipless pedals without falling. I got into the parking lot and said, "I did it. I did it. I didn't fall once!" With that, I couldn't unclip in time and fell right behind my parked car in front of about 20 other riders.

Most fun ever had on a bike? I had just gotten the mountain bike and gone down a hill on the trail for the first time. It was exciting seeing the greenery, the shade overhead, hearing the crunch of the leaves beneath the wheels. Loved it!

I have been training for an endurance ride, and LOVE the routes our trainer takes us on. Yesterday we went through a bunch of horse farms, and across one of the many tributaries to the Chesapeake on a little podunk bridge. Stopped to pee and hydrate at an ice-cream stand. LOVED it.

Want to add too that I am SOOO glad I found this forum. I don't know any girls who ride, and have some "girly" questions I am not ready to ask my guy trainer yet. Looking forward to "meeting" y'all! :)

Most memorable moment on my bike: My first Tour de l'Ile, the 25th anniversary, in Montréal, with 35,000 other riders. Going through the gates as the Cirque du Soleil stilt walkers were cheering us through, dressed as matadors waving their red blankets (Cirque du Soleil's 25th anniversary was the same year). Going through little neighbourhoods where people were on their doorsteps, playing guitar and violin, and pushing us on.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Going around the island of Montreal for the first time and discovering places I had never seen before.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Sheesh, I feel slow compared to the others...about 28 (no hill, Detroit is not very hilly)

Another picture of yourself or your ride? gotta stop being lazy and post one...

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I don't like lying because its too hard to keep track of...

Most memorable moment on my bike: Falling over on my first ride clipless...was on a side street with no traffic, but there was a guy walking by and he laughed (so did I)

Most fun ever had on a bike? when me and my DH were kids (about 14) we snuck out in the middle of the night and rode about 10 miles to Belle Isle (an island park) and on the way back my tire busted and the rim got so bad we had to ditch the bike (it was a trashy bike anyway). I had to ride home on his handlebars...not so comfy when you're rushing to get home before daybreak!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I can't remember, probably something about where I was going to my mom. I don't tend to lie, really, anymore. The truth is so much simpler.

Most memorable moment on my bike: When I was a kid and *raced* down this biiiiiiig hill so that I'd have enough momentum to make it back up the next hill. Well, I had plenty of momentum...made it back up and then promptly crashed. Tried to hide it from my mom because I knew I was being stupid, but my bike was trashed and my chin wouldn't stop bleeding. Ended up needing stitches...I still have the scar.

Most fun ever had on a bike? When I was a young teen at summer camp and we did some road cycling. I think it was about 30 miles. That is what really awakened my love of cycling, even though I let it go back to sleep for (far too) many years.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I'll have to dig one up.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Usually only when I don't want to talk on the phone.

Most memorable moment on my bike: We decided to kick off the season with a 44 mile bike ride (MDH and I). I was trying out a new saddle. Big mistake. It was a gorgeous day, but boy were we whipped at the end of the ride. The last uphill went on forever!

Most fun ever had on a bike? The first time on the Mickelson, or the last time we biked Spearfish Canyon and ended up at the Bayleaf Cafe for lunch afterward. Good friends, beautiful day, what more could I want?!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I told my best friend she was a good cook.

Most memorable moment on my bike: One morning, around 5:30am I was biking the West River Drive and I looked up and saw this huge bear digging in a trash can. I, of course, screamed like Jamie Lee Curtis in a horror film, which startled the bear. It looked up and I realized it was tall homeless man draped in a huge brown quilt. What can I say? When I’m out in nature I tend to think that every thing is out to get me.

Most fun ever had on a bike? It’s always fun. Every time I get on my bike my heart races with excitement, it’s that simple.

Age (general or specific): 32

Favorite bike: My blue Kona Jake the Snake. It was the first 105 bike I bought, and was a near perfect fit from day one. It has been a blast to ride, and although I have added to my stable, it is still my go to bike. And the decals glow in the dark.

What's in your stable? Lemond Versaille, Kona Jake the Snake, Trek 4500 MTB

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Probably a 25 mph descent during my first triathlon. I am very grateful I knew how to corner. Fast is very cool, being out of control is not.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Need to find one.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: How I got my first hickey, I have never asked my mom if she bought the story, because being a nurse I am pretty sure she didn't. After that I figured out to just not say anything at all, unless she asked first.

Most memorable moment on my bike: My first mountain bike ride with my (now)fiance. My old mtb was too big and he is a more experienced mtb rider than I (just learning). I was miserable for the entire 9 mile loop, and when we got back to his car I said nothing. I just knew he was trying to kill me, and he just knew we were breaking up. Two weeks later the bike got sold, and 6 moths later he helped me buy a bike that fit. We still laugh about that ride.

I am eternally grateful to the bike gods for giving me sufficient challenges so I could figure out just how strong I really am (or stupid and reckless if you ask my mom :D)

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 45, on a very long and secluded rural road in Upstate NY. (Downhill!)

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Hmm I have a lot, but none with me at work.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I told my ninth-grade boyfriend that I loved him, which I didn't...I was afraid of hurting his feelings :/

Most memorable moment on my bike: Riding through a field and watching a mother deer and her baby (he had to be only a few weeks old) run into the distance. This moment was very special and relevant to me, as I'd just found out the day before that my sister was pregnant.

Most fun ever had on a bike? The first 50-mile ride I ever took with my boyfriend. It turned out to be a 90-degree day (somehow we'd missed the forecast) and we were hot sweaty messes by the time we got home, but we had so much fun together and really discovered that we are meant to be.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? About 46mph, cruising down a hill on a ride south of Spokane this summer.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? If I can figure out how to post it, you should see it!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Ooh, that's a good one. I can't think of a good response. It was probably something I told in elementary school on the playground.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Aah, so many good ones! Probably the first time I made it to the top of a REALLY BIG HILL, so proud of myself for riding up the whole thing without stopping- I told myself that if I could do that, I could do anything. Haven't doubted myself on a hill since, anyway.

Most fun ever had on a bike? A fall ride called Tour de Latte where I cruised around to 6 different bakeries in 30 miles with a fun group of riders. We were "judged" by the kids on the ride based on how much coffee and baked goods we consumed at each stop. It was great to be on a bike to see the fall colors and enjoy each others' company- and I never pass up an excuse to gorge myself on coffee and baked goods!!

I'm actually an import from the states :) I moved to SK a couple of years ago for graduate school. Aside from the brutal winters, Saskatoon is a pretty nice place to live.

I spent last summer in BC doing some field research, and I rode some there. However, my research now has me locked in the laboratory with few chances to escape. I *wish* I could head elsewhere to bike (or climb, or backpack). Canada has so many great places I would love to visit.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Realizing that mountain biking IS actually fun, but I didn't like it until after I'd gotten into road biking and became more fit.

If you are in the Southwest part of the State, let me know, perhaps we can do a ride of some kind.

Biggest lie you've ever told? I suck at it so I just don't lie much....anyone could play poker with me!

Fastest speed on a road bike? Not so fast... 28 mph downhill on Wheelock Parkway, Saint Paul.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Someday when I get a working digital again!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: This is complex -- we were getting a cat out of an abusive situation; abuser had reneged and decided to keep him... I was moving away 6 hours away from my boyfriend, and just went on about how worried I was how he would do without me, and what a great comfort the cat (one of the "dog-cat" species) would be to him. My boyfriend could hear everything in the next room; this was about a year into the relationship, and he had no idea that I could be so manipulative! (Only used in good causes on unreasonable people.)

Most memorable moment on my bike: Biking the Brooklyn bridge and looking back at Manhattan for the sunset, and the lights in the city turning on.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Riding the Bianchi Eros for the first time, and getting over 22 mph effortlessly; so much lighter and more responsive than my Bianchi commuter, which is built on a Volpe / cyclocross frame. And I've had lots of fun on that bike!

Explanation of your handle: because I've lived and loved in New Mexico! (A Zia is the symbol on the NM state flag, and the Native American symbol for "sun.")

Explanation of your avatar: me, on my mountain bike, doing my first triathlon and realizing -- for the first time -- that I loved road biking!

Occupation: Information Architect

Favorite bike: a Terry Symmetry, which is in the sick bay, awaiting a new frame :( (at which point it will become an Isis with Symmetry components)

What's in your stable? Gary Fisher Marlin and the sick Terry

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 33 mph, my last triathlon, going down a big hill in Hopkinton. Every time I look at my cyclometer going down hill, I think of what a teammate said she thought right before her big downhill crash: "I've never gone this fast before!"

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Not right now!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: not really a good liar... no good ones, alas

Most memorable moment on my bike: biking through a crazy monsoon thunderstorm on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. I saw a commercial plane get struck by lightening less than a mile away. Terrified! I have never peddled so fast in my life.

Most fun ever had on a bike? My first triathlon, a women's only event. I never considered myself much of a biker, but during that race, I felt pure joy and power while I was biking. That's when I realized it was time to shed the inaccurate, negative image of myself as a biker (and as an athlete) that I'd been clinging too. It was a transformative moment!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: i usually only lie to cover up surprise gifts i get for my loved ones

Most memorable moment on my bike: the only time i ever tried mountain biking a couple years ago i was charging down a steep incline that led right to a wooden bridge over a creek when i couldn't help but glance at the water and (of course) completely missed the bridge. the rest of the ride the whole crew was referring to me as "the Fearless".

Most fun ever had on a bike? i recently did my first race, the Tour de Donut, around here. its a 31.4mi race that attracts people of all ability levels and has two rest stations where they have refreshments, including donuts. the fun part is that for every donut you eat they take 5 minutes off of your final time. i did it with two of my classmates and my boyfriend and had an absolute blast!

Fastest speed on a road bike? no computer sorry

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: "I know how to do that." ... was in reference to braking while carving down a hill (on a longboard). Immediately followed by "I don't need a helmet." ... immediately followed by me, wobbling while barely braking, landing on my head, followed by "I don't need to go to the hospital."

Most memorable moment on my bike: The first time I rode a road bike. Wheeeeee.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Not got there yet..but about 25kms an hour on the hybrid, on the way home from town on Sunday.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I prefer to be behind the camera..and i've yet to take a picture of the bike

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: How I couldn't stay out late as I had a long ride the next day.

Most memorable moment on my bike: I've had a few..when I managed to commute back and forth to work for the first time (approx 20km round trip) and the other weekend, where we got a Garda escort along the main roads...I swear we either looked like criminals or VIPs...I'm channelling the VIP vibe personally :D

Most fun ever had on a bike? It sounds strange but looking back falling off my bike was fun...I was turning a corner, the bike and I took on a patch of black ice..the black ice won and then getting my front wheel caught in a track and falling down again. I still got up and cycled off...I've a cool scar on my elbow from the track incident.
It taught me that I am not invincible, that if I fall I will get hurt and that I was lucky there was no traffic around when I fell which considering the areas was a miracle. Maybe its more of lesson then fun...but I have fun every day on my bike

Maxxxie

Real name: Most people call me Max ;)

Where do you live? Brisbane, Australia.

Explanation of your handle: It's a bastardisation of "Maxine", one of the first usernames I ever used. People eventually started to call me Max in real life, and back when I was playing volleyball, my mates would call out to me from the other side of the hall... "Maaaaaxxxxxxiiiiiiieeeeeeeee"!!!!! It kinda stuck.

Explanation of your avatar: Trinity is hot, hot, hot!

Age (general or specific): 35

Occupation: IT - server/network admin

Favorite bike: Any bike's a good bike! But if I absolutely had to pick a favourite, it'd be my Cannondale.

What's in your stable? 2009 Cannondale Synapse 4 Feminine, 2008 Apollo Fiamme and a 10-15 year old Malvern Star MTB that sits in the trainer.

Fastest speed on a road bike? On a flat during Cycle Queensland 2009: 51.6Kph (around 32mph). There was a little tailwind, but it was mostly me :D. Going downhill down a mountain near the Gold Coast - 70-something Kph (40-something mph). It was so cold, and the wind so brisk, that tears were pouring out of my eyes. I could barely see the computer, and frankly, after seeing that the number started with a 7, I didn't want to know. All I could think of after that was "please don't fall off, please don't fall off, please don't fall off...". That was the day I learnt that road brakes are a little less powerful than V-brakes!

Another picture of yourself or your ride?

http://www.maxxxie.net/img/thebeast6.jpg

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I'm a terrible liar. It's easier just to tell the truth.

Most memorable moment on my bike: I live pretty much in the moment - so the "most memorable" moments for me are the ones that have just happened :D If I had to choose, I guess it would be finishing my first 100Km event. It near killed me, but I did it!!

Most fun ever had on a bike? Every ride's a good ride. If I'm on the bike, I'm having fun. My most recent fun was participating in Cycle Queensland 2009, a 9-day 570Km tour around the Darling Downs area of QLD.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I don't even know.. I don't often lie, so I can't think of anything!

Most memorable moment on my bike: Having to take a break on my 4th of July ride (it was crazy hot, so I sat on the side of the road for 20 minutes and rehydrated/cooled and had a snack) and having not one, but THREE volunteer fire trucks stop to ask if I was okay, or needed any help.

Most fun ever had on a bike? I'm not sure.. each time I go out and ride is more fun than the last, especially when I hit new distance milestones.. 20 miles was a big one for me, I'm still trying to break 25 :)

Explanation of your avatar: Don't have one just yet.

Age (general or specific) 29

Occupation: Keyword and Content specialist at an online marketing agency

Favorite bike: Can't pick just one! Big fan of Felts though.

What's in your stable? 2009 Felt F95, 2009 Focus Highland Peak and an old clunker that gets me to and from the bus station during the week.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? I can only say for on the flats (don't have a bike computer when I ride up and down hills in NY) 29.4mph, on some back roads between farming fields, summer 2008.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Don't have any pics at the moment (I'm at work..shhhhh).

Most memorable moment on my bike: My most memorable experience (to date) was probably last August when I did a tour version of the Vuelta which started in Assen. There were over 10,000 riders and it was such a fun atmospher with lots of people cheering you on. The next day we went to watch the start of Stage 1 and I got to meet a few of the pros. It was a great biking weekend!

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Absolutely no idea.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I don't have any since my CC was completed.

Most memorable moment on my bike: My partner is a bike mechanic so he built my bike for me. We didn't have pedals with us at the shop so we brought it home and put pedals on it there. For the second time ever he let someone ride a bike before he could to test everything (how's that for love) and what do I do? Jump on (too excited to be thinking about my pants), take off down the street, and come to a halt within seconds as my jeans were eaten by the shiny new crank.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Every time I ride around town with my sweetheart, chatting as we go.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: They are all big

Most memorable moment on my bike: Biking all around Charleston, SC with my husband. We each had a son in a bike seat. We were out for hours and our youngest fell asleep. We had to tie his little helmet to the seat with a shoestring to keep his head from bobbing wildly. He slept through the whole procedure.

Most fun ever had on a bike? This July, biking the beginner trail at Red Rocks with my husband and now 16 and 18 year old sons. We were on a cross-country camping trip and our bikes were all set up for leisurely sight-seeing, but we were in the area and we had to try it. All bikes had platform pedals and all were hard-tails. We laughed so hard at each other that it hurt. We all made it through without a fall except my husband who yelled "watch this" as he rolled into one of the few patches of deep sand on the trail. He purposely flew over his handlebars and we all broke out in laughter...again! Now that we are home all pedals are are again clip-ins except mine. If we ever go back, we will rent the proper equipment.

I got her home last Thursday, rode her Friday 10 miles to get things adjusted and did a century on her on Sunday (40 miles trail and 62 miles road with 5000+ ft of climbing). Fat-bottom-Ethel tips the scales a bit more than I'm used to, but sluggish she is not!

Fastest speed on a road bike? Just checked my log... 42.5 Tour de Carroll April 25, 2009

Another picture of yourself or your ride?

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: If I told any I try to forget it.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Probably the last ride I went on. It was horrible... I crashed just about every five minutes.

Hi ladies! I am so psyched to be here with you all. I have lost 100 pounds since this past January, and am ready to be competitive in centuries, marathons, tri's...you name it! My husband works in a bike shop, and has set me up with a sweet Cannondale Synapse. I have been working out 4 days a week at the gym, working upper and lower body, building my core strength, and doing lots of cardio and fat-burning on elliptical trainers, recumbent bikes and running on the treadmill. My big goal for this year is the Trek Across Maine, but I want to get involved in other events too.

Great to be here!

I just found this post, so I thought I'd give it a try!

Real name: Jessica

Where do you live? Renton, Washington

Explanation of your handle: On one of my first rides with my husband he nicknamed me Shifty McShifterson because I was constantly shifting up and down gears trying to find the right level of resistance. The whole name didn't fit here so I cut it down and added X's because I'm Straight Edge.

Explanation of your avatar: Just got one, it's my bike!

Age (general or specific): 25

Occupation: Intensive Care Nurse

Favorite bike: My 2010 Orbea Dama

What's in your stable? See above

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 37.6 MPH, on my favorite downhill in Renton coming down 180th St. Just a month ago or so.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I can't think of anything, I try not to lie, so it probably would have been as a kid.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Probably when my husband and I rented bikes while on our honeymoon in Portugal. Even though my bike was an ancient mountain bike - there's no place quite like Europe with the cobblestone roads. We have a beautiful picture of us with our bikes on top of a hill we rode up that overlooks the very blue ocean (It's the picture on my profile).

Most fun ever had on a bike? Recently my husband and I road from our house, up Tiger Mountain, and back. Any ride with my husband is a fun ride, but it was a new route, I love being able to just leave from my house, I did the most climbing and mileage I've ever done so far, I proved to myself I could handle my clipless pedals and my new bike, and I went almost 40MPH down a hill, what could be better?!

That was fun!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? i tend to ride solo and at the moment am feeling to shy to post one of the few pics i have

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: i am a terrible liar so i generally do not lie. also lies are to stressful it is easier to omit truths ;)

Most memorable moment on my bike: going off road after a huge storm on a solo mountain bike ride. i climbed over 7 trees and had to ride through some "puddles" the size of small lakes. it was a big adventure and sort of scary. i had planned to take the road home but a fallen tree made it so that going on the fire trails was the fastest way to get home.

Most fun ever had on a bike? every month when i ride with my local wombats group i have a blast. it is a pretty easy ride but it is so fun to go ona ride with other women.

Hi ladies. My name is Tanis and I am pretty new to cycling. I got a Raleigh Comfort (Hybrid?) Venture 3.0 last summer, but have only been able to ride it a handful of times so far. I am pretty dang slow and really unsteady, so I am a little hesitant to go more than a mile or so on my own yet. However, I'm anxiously waiting for warm weather and less crazy schedules, so DH and I can go biking together. DH is no expert, but he seems like a pro to me and motivates me to work harder. We have signed up for a 35mi bike tour in a few mo, so hopefully I will be ready by then- fairly steep hills from what I've heard (yikes!). I try to go to spinning classes at the gym weekly, which kicks my butt  but is extremely fun. After reading the multiple posts about peddle restraints and being reassured about clipless, I finally purchased some shoes & clips yesterday. Originally I was going to try the toe clips, but due to an awesome deal at my local bike store, I broke down and figured I'd try the clipless. I am excited to try them out at Tuesday's spinning class, and eventually on my little Raleigh (I will need to purchase new peddles first). I've been a member and lurking on this board for about a month now and live vicariously through you all :D! Anyways, hello ladies, and thanks for the info, I sure do appreciate it!

Favorite bike: I've had a Trek FX 7.6 (great bike) and just bought a Giant because my Trek was stolen and I thought I'd try a road bike.

What's in your stable? The Giant Avail 2 (don't know what it is called in America -- it's the WSD aluminium bike with a carbon fork and seat post) I also have a very old pink racing bike -- an Apollo Calypso if that means anything to anyone -- that weighs a million pounds and has very squeaky brakes. I use that one if I am going to lock it up in London because my Giant would definitely get stolen no matter what I locked it with and not even the thieves want my old pink bike!

Most fun I've ever had on my bike: I moved to the mountains of NC and had not been on a bike in five years. My husband...got out Bianchi and tuned her up. He surprised me by having the bike on the car...and everything ready for me to ride. He took me to a long flat stretch near a river ( not many flats around here. He followed me in our car, as I rode for the first time in five years. I will never forget the sense of freedom...happiness and gratitude I felt. It was the best ride of my life!

I may have done this before but I've not posted much for a long, long time so I'll do it again.

Real name: Maria

Where do you live? Denver

Explanation of your handle: It's a play on my kunya, or nickname, from Arabic tradition.

Age: 40

Occupation: HR

Favorite bike: all of them:
commuter - '92 Bridgestone XO-2
latte getter - early 80's Nishiki mixte
road - K2 T9 Twister - A truly fabulous bike that didn't get nearly enough attention. I've logged a few thousand miles on her and she might just be the most comfortable bike I've ever owned.
latte getter 2 - '74 Raleigh Grand Prix mixte

What's in your stable? See above

Fastest speed on a road bike? 38mph I'm not a huge fan of going too fast.

Most fun ever had on a bike?
1) RAGBRAI in '08. My 6th overall, but my first in 13 years. I didn't stop smiling the entire week....of course I'm pretty sure the others were equally as fun.
2) Any ride with my kids. My son is a avid cyclist and is building endurance for longer rides. My daughter is just starting out and I believe will grow to love biking as much as the rest of us.
3) We do lots of small, local organized rides from one-day endurance rides to our weekly neighborhood family ride, charity rides and the weekly massive cruiser ride (occassionally - I enjoy a good drink or two but the drunks on this ride are taking over.)

Real name: Anne
Where do you live? Dumfries, Scotland

Explanation of your handle: It's for lifting me up with.

Age (general or specific) The Big Three Oh (the age at which a road bike seems to automatically appear in the garage)

Occupation: Marketing

Favorite bike: The bright yellow BMX that was stolen from me when I was about 10.

What's in your stable? I would love to be ironic and say an Iron Horse... haha but no. 2007 Trek 6500 for mud and rocks, 2009 Trek 1.5 WSD for tarmac. Both bought for pennies off Gumtree and well looked after. I can't stand it when people boast about spending four figures on their bike - grow up and just ride it!

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? I don't know - I don't have a speedo.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I'm a photographer, so there are never any pictures of me!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: That I was perfect for the job.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Nailing riding without stablisers aged about 7... looking round to check EVERYONE had seen me, and crashing headfirst into a wall.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Penny farthings at the Wickerman Festival. My friend Rik runs a bike shop and bought two 'modern' penny farthings for hire to customers. I will try to find a picture...

Real name: Jenn
Where do you live? Centennial, CO

Explanation of your handle: The "K" is the first initial of my last name; the "13" is my softball jersey number

Explanation of your avatar: I don't have an avatar - the bike pictured is my newest and most favorite at this time - Fuji Cross Comp

Age (general or specific): 35 in 2 weeks!

Occupation: Executive Assistant - Local Government

Favorite bike: right now - see above :) my Cross Comp

What's in your stable? Trek Navigator 2.0; Giant Transcend; Fuji Cross Comp

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Who knows!!! I only have a computer on the Trek, and that isn't going as fast as my Giant or Fuji. According to the GPS tracking on my Blackberry, I have gone 29 mph on the C470 trail

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I don't know how to put that in here :)

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Im not inclined to share that!

Most memorable moment on my bike: I hadn't riden a bike in God knows how long! I had been telling my husband that I wanted one, and was lusting over a K2 bike. He got the Trek for me for Christmas 2008. I suffer from an autoimmune disease and was so ill and out of shape at the time, so even a few miles was difficult for me. Not even 6 months after getting me the bike (and it's Colorado, so I couldn't ride much the first part of the year), I rode in a local charity ride and finished first in my group, a 15 mile ride! With my basket on the front of my Trek :) It was a great feeling and just keeps getting better.

Most fun ever had on a bike? I always have fun on a bike, though my rides are for different reasons - casual riding with friends or the hubby, riding to picnics, commuting to work, or training rides alone that totally clear my head and focus on my body. Its ALL good!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Forget it... gotta lose some pounds before I put up a photo!!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I love it!

Most memorable moment on my bike: Crashing into the kerb and flipping head-first over the handlebars when I was about 8. Walked away from it...

Real name: Samara
Where do you live? Austin, Texas

Explanation of your handle: First name and first initial of my last. Sounds exotic, right?

Explanation of your avatar: One of many bikes

Age (general or specific) 27

Occupation: Student/Salon Administrator

Favorite bike: That's a loaded question... I love both of my bikes, and I don't have anything that I'm lusting over at the moment.

What's in your stable? Mine: Trek 7.5 FX WSD (the workhorse/car), Orbea Onix Dama (the racehorse/"Baby Orbea" because my 650 wheels make it look like DH's Orbea had a little baby), DH's: Kona Dr. Dew, Orbea Onix

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Don't have a computer, but once my UPS driver friend was tailing me on my commute, he told me it was 25mph.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Just starting out, no pics of me on my bike just yet.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: My hair color.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Good: My first 25 mile ride, great weather, few cars, and a wonderful sunburn to remember it by. Bad: All in the same day--blowing a tire and subsequently crashing while riding, going back home to get DH's bike so I could make it to school, having his bike stolen while on campus (in my care...), and the battery dying on the car when we were trying to get home.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Almost everyday of my commute!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: "I will never lie to you" Jimmy Carter. That was his first lie.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Having a rattler take a swipe at me and miss both me and getting caught up in my rear wheel. I was so spooked I crashed about 10 feet up the trail, got up real fast and moved forward another 10 feet. Managed to get a picture of him- he was huge. I was lucky. He was really pissed, and crossed the trail, hissing at me as he went, then curled up under a bush on the other side. He hissed for maybe 5 minutes and it was LOUD! I had never heard one in-the-flesh, I had no idea they were that loud. He was so agitated, I wanted to be sure no one else went by until he slithered off. Finally, he stopped hissing , but the moment I started walking with the bike, he started up again even though I was maybe 20 yards away! He was mad at the world. I waited about 10 minutes and he still hissed when I started moving.

Most fun ever had on a bike? There are trails just outside the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Singletrack everywhere. Beautiful place. Quiet. My friend and I did not see another cyclist; we had the whole place to ourselves. We had packed lunches, and sat under a tree and just enjoyed a wonderful place. It was a great way to end our Flag/Sedona vacation.

Explanation of your handle: From my favorite character in the Song of Ice and Fire books. Been using it for a decade now, and it suits me. ;)

Explanation of your avatar: I went to Art Fair on the Square 5 years ago and saw this painting that I DESPERATELY wanted but didn't get, because my then-husband was a controlling jerk who wouldn't have understood it at all. Age (general or specific) 38

Occupation: Masters student in Speech-Language Pathology, and mother of a 6-year-old new bike-lover!

Favorite bike: I love my 2008 Trek 7.5 FX WSD! I don't know from other bikes though...this is the second one I've bought as an adult and I won't be buying another one for a good while. ;)

What's in your stable? Some 2005 hybrid thing that I swear weighs more than I do.

Fastest speed on a road bike? No idea, don't clock myself.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Nope. I don't get in front of the camera much.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Someone else said it first: "I'm fine."

Most memorable moment on my bike: I enjoy all moments, really. But probably one of the best was on the old bike, when I was re-learning how to ride after 15+ years off it. I was drastically out of shape and was afraid to ride out too far in case I was too weak to get back. This one morning I ended up doing a 12-mile loop around town, culminating in a hideous hill. I was so proud that I made it! I've never again had that fear that I couldn't make my way home under my own power.

Most fun ever had on a bike? My partner and I love to ride and talk, and our son is a new (as of this spring) rider without training wheels who is obsessed with biking! I love that we're a biking family, because we always have such a good time just sharing each others' company. :)

Explanation of your handle: I sing soprano in the choir. Just for fun.

Explanation of your avatar: I'll make one at some point, I'm sure.
Age (general or specific): 31

Occupation: student. Going back to school as an adult has been fun!

Favorite bike: my current bike

What's in your stable? Surly LHT. My husband fails to see the point of having multiple bikes, so to keep the peace I found one bike that does everything I want.

Fastest speed on a road bike? 34, on the Surly.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Just lost the hard drive a few weeks ago and haven't put the photo software on the new one yet, so no photos, sorry.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I have reactive hypoglycemia (this is true) but my doctor doesn't know (strictly speaking, it's a lie of omission.) Long story. I manage quite well on my own, thank you.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Wiping out for the first time as an adult, picking myself up, realizing that I wasn't hurt at all, and being glad that I finally got that first fall out of the way.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Just finished a 9-day solo tour. I want more!

Real name: Gwen
Where do you live? Indiana (about an hour outside Chicago). But I am moving to Columbia, MO in about a month to start my PhD.

Explanation of your handle: Well, it has to do with horses (my first love). I am all about responsible breeding and against breeding horses for color. It is short for "colorisnteverything".

Explanation of your avatar: don't have one! I'm boring!

Age (general or specific): will be 23 on the 31st of August and feeling older every day :-P

Occupation: PhD Student, social case manager (internship for this summer). I do health care research for comparative politics and public policy. This summer I am helping the aged and disabled access Medicaid and trying to get an idea of how policies affect those at the micro level. It's good because I usually do macro level, national level general research on health insurance and health care. Don't get me started on health reform!

Favorite bike: My trek 1.2. It is my first "real" bike. I named her Casser because I kept falling over when learning to use the clipless pedals. Casser means beating in French.

What's in your stable? My trek 1.2 WSD and a 1977 Columbia Road Bike - "Blaze". Blaze is my commuter and holds a special place in my heart. There is something sweet about the steel and rubber grips.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 30 MPH on my last ride through a local cemetery in the rain. That was before the terrible kidney stone incident. I still haven't gotten back on the bike because of this darn weather!

Another picture of yourself or your ride? The columbia I have pics of, but not the Trek. I'm too lazy to post it though.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: That I couldn't do something. When I am scared I need an @$$ kicking to get back to something. I used to do this with the horse and now if I fall off the bike, I am like "I can't do it". I usually can, I just don't want to.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Impressing my ride group by being a new member and showing up with my 30 lb steel bike and riding 30 miles like it was nothing. I am hoping for some more memorable rides!

Most fun ever had on a bike? Riding down a back country road and watching the little calves in a field run with me.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Riding in Southern Indiana with my lovely now boyfriend whom I hope to be with for a very very long time. I was a new rider at the time, I can't remember having more fun that I did that weekend at The Hilly 100.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Probably aside from when I met my boyfriend, it would be captaining the tandem with my Mom as my stoker on the Tour de Cure. That was a fun and funny ride, LOL! She's new at riding on a road style bike so we try to get behind everyone and they close the gate on us at the last second so we had to start at the front. Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 38.5 on a hybrid going down a steep hill in Fredericksburg, TX in July 2010.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I don't have very many pics of myself - I absolutely hate having my picture taken

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I try very hard not to lie unless it so that I don't hurt someone's feelings. My clients sometimes ask me if they look fat. I would never say yes, so...

Most memorable moment on my bike: I just got a new set of clipless pedals (never had used anything but tennies prior to this moment). Anywho...my hubby put them on, I got on the bike with my new shoes, clipped in, rode down the alley, came back up into the driveway...and...fell over. I laughed for 30 minutes. When I landed (in a very slow awkward way), the bike was still attatched & I felt like an idiot! I guess I should have unclipped. :D Huge lesson learned & I'll never forget it. It really was hilarious though.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Can't really think of a particular one right now. I feel like I kick my own bootie every time I ride, but I'm having fun every single time.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Well, it’s one that I repeat to myself from time to time and it goes something like this; “gee that won’t really matter too much…” when I am doing something that I know damn well will matter and come back to bite me in the butt, and it always does.

Most memorable moment on my bike: When I got back on one after an absence of over 18 years and discovered, yes I really can still ride a bike.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: taking the 5th on this one.

Most memorable moment on my bike: 10 years old on a Raleigh with a banana seat and coaster breaks: Bombing down the steepest hill in my neighborhood without breaking, totally facing the older, cool kids on their BMX bikes (they all either chickened out, or hit the breaks), and learning the valuable lesson that glory comes to those who don't let anyone tell them they can't do something, and that a skinned knee is not worth crying about.

Most fun ever had on a bike? This summer, my first summer of road biking/tri training. Realizing I'm still the same 10 year old with no fear (but a much better bike), and I CAN hang with the cool kids.

Favorite bike: Whatever I have

What's in your stable? Giant Anthem

Another picture of yourself or your ride? No pictures yet!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Depends on the situation, anything for peace in the family...

Most memorable moment on my bike: Well, most recently I've been meaning to ask someone from the local riding group to help me find the trails around our town and two days ago my dream came true!!! We rode 16 miles, me huffing and puffing up the hills but I didn't give up and I learned about sand and ooohh it was fun and exciting! I ride fairly slow, am very overweight (224) and not exactly in shape at all :o but I'm trying to go out more. Getting my cycling equipment bit by bit from Aerotech (they're great) and the LBS.

Most fun ever had on a bike? So far it's the small things: realizing that it's all possible again after not riding for thirty years, appreciating the feeling of freedom on a bike, seeing that I can ride for further and further distances.

Hi all. I've been perusing these forums for some time now. I've picked up heaps of info. I particularly like the cross section of cyclists on here compared to some other forums. Joined officially last month. It would probably be terribly impolite if I didn't introduce myself....plus I like reading everybody elses intros!

Favorite bike: Well I have a fairly new Salsa casseroll triple and I am in love with it. It slept in my room the first month I got it home. My bf found that a bit disturbing.

What's in your stable? As above and a Kona Dew Plus (its starting to feel neglected).

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Photos make my bum look big

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Something about the tooth fairy and the global financial crisis.

Most memorable moment on my bike: My bf is not much of a cycling enthusiast as much as I have tried. I made him go for a little day tour on a trip to Mildura last holidays where we covered quite a few kms. It was priceless about 20km out of Mildura listening to his string of expletives about what was happening to his backside.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Most of it is fun. Except hills. I hate hills.

Real name: Victoria

Where do you live? In the flatlands in the middle of Canada.

Explanation of your handle: Someone once told me that the mud on my legs after a particularly soggy ride looked like inkspots. I thought it was cute. Combine that with my love of writing and antique pens...

Explanation of your avatar: I love owls.

Age (general or specific):31

Occupation: Graduate student in cognitive neuroscience

Favorite bike: 2010 Specialized Tricross Sport Triple

What's in your stable? As above, Trek Navigator 2.0 (paisley pattern - very girly), and a once-shiny-now-muddy-and-battered Raleigh mountain bike.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Have irrational (or perhaps completely rational) fear of cameras :p

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Something involving a plot to distract a madman with a plot to murder me and a mysteriously missing batch of cookies - I was 4 at the time...

Most memorable moment on my bike: Hmmm... Narrowed it down to two: 1)The first time I rode down Burnaby Mountain. I wasn't aware of just how steep a grade the descent was. I was enjoying the feel of the wind in my face, the light rain on my skin. That is until I went whizzing past a bus on the hill. I figured at that point that I was going too fast. I tried to ease on my brakes, hit a wet patch and skidded into the brush on the side of the road! The bus driver stopped and gave me a lift to the Skytrain station :o
2)The first time I rode my brother's BMX bike. I wad flying down a hill towards the highway when I realized that there were no hand-brakes on the bike  I flew across 6 lanes of traffic (unscathed, somehow) before my brother caught up with me and told me that I needed to pedal backwards to stop.

Most fun ever had on a bike? This is going to sound stupid, but shopping for my latest bike at the LBS - those guys are a riot! It was two and a half hours of constant laughing as they pulled out every bike in the shop, tweaked, adjusted, and generally messed with me and the bikes! I had sore abs for the next three days, and it had nothing to do with my new riding position :D

What's in your stable? Trek 7.5

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I don't know...I try not to lie...

Most memorable moment on my bike: Well....I haven't done much riding...but just did a 58.7 mi ride to Niagara Falls with my brothers. When we got home I hurt (my legs and stomach) so bad I could barely walk, and was soaked through with cold fall rain. The next morning I was VERY sore, but was excited to plan our next ride!! :D [I will remember to eat a little at a time, instead of basically having 2 meals while riding. Hopefully that will help the stomach next time ;)]

Most fun ever had on a bike? I really don't know....maybe sailing down dirt roads on hills in TN with the cousins. :p

Aisling
12-09-2010, 11:37 AM
Hi everybody, I feel like I've had such a positive experience of this forum already it was only proper to introduce myself!

Real name: Aisling

Where do you live? Dublin, Ireland

Explanation of your handle: Aisling is actually my first name. It's an old Irish (Gaelic) name which means a dream or a vision. It's pronounced Ash-ling, so a lot of people just call me Ash (or Ais!).

Explanation of your avatar: I'm taking up cycling with the goal of cycling 1000km for charity in New Zealand next September. I will be fundraising for the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU)'s Charitable Trust, which provides assistance for people who have been paralysed or otherwise seriously injured playing rugby. So the avatar is a little reminder for me of what I'm training for.

Age: 23

Occupation: Communications

Favorite bike: While I was in college, I had a beautiful 1950s 3-speed city bike with a little wicker basket and everything. My ex-boyfriend broke one of the pedals clean off it one day, and as I was just about to move back to Dublin (where I live on a hill!), it unfortunately wasn't worth bringing back home. I left it there for my cousin instead, who got a beautiful bike for only to cost of fixing the pedals.

What's in your stable? Nothing! Well, technically, there's a Scott MTB of some description from my teenage years, but I've always found it pretty cumbersome and uncomfortable and I need a road bike for the kind of training I want to do, so lets not think about that!

Fastest speed on a road bike? Nothing - I've still to get on one.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Probably cycling to lectures at breakneck speed. Or coaching rowing from the side of the river while trying not to cycle into someone/something. My bike was such an integral part of my daily life in college, I miss it so much and I'm so excited about getting a bike that I love again!

Most fun ever had on a bike? As above, just everything! Where I went to college, everyone used their bikes for just about everything, but maybe if I had to pick one moment, it would be cycling through the town in all my evening finery (high heels included!) with my best friend in a mad rush to get to some formal dinner or other but just laughing away and having a great time.

hey Aisling, are you comin down for the RWC??? RWC then cycle round NZ..coollllll!

That's the plan - we'll have Ireland v Australia at the start, Ireland v Italy at the end, and then the small issue of 1000km in between! I'm so excited to be heading down, and thrilled to be doing the cycle on behalf of a cause I really think makes a big difference to players' lives :)

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 18 mph on my Schwinn in Daytona FL...I was riding back from the race track to the RV and got a real nice tailwind ;) Sorry, don't have a speed on my road bike yet...DH just got it for my today for x-mas and only got to ride it about 2 miles before it got to dark to ride. But here's another view of 'crazies in hats'
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q209/sherillewis/HPIM2838r.jpg

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: That I was 39 *grins*

Most memorable moment on my bike: This was on a bike that I bought from Walmat or Kmart or something like that...it was the first time I road a full mile...when I started I was 233lbs (and 5'2 1/2") and got winded and the jelly legs after riding 1/4 mile at my first go...so when I 'got' my first mile I was thrilled...after that I was hooked. (oh, that's me, now, on the right)

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Probably First Grade, I told my class that my older sister was blinded in one eye by the total eclipse of the sun. For the next 5 or so years people would walk up to her and wave their arms in her face to see if she could see them. This memory still makes me smile.

Most fun ever had on a bike? One of my best friends in elementary school was completely blind. Perhaps this influenced my biggest lie ever... We used to ride around the neighborhood on a tandem bike.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Um... maybe taking a 'sick day' when I wasn't really sick?

Most memorable moment on my bike: Riding on the HUGE & WIDE bike paths along Hilton Head Island -- it was a crappy rental bike but the traffic was no worries, the weather was gorgeous, and there was no pressure to do anything other than have fun. Going back this year to do the same, including rides on the hard sandy beach!

54, new to cycling, signed up for cycle Oregon with my husband, obsessively think about biking, routes, getting better. First time clipping in in am, so hope I can actually get to work tomorrow.
Have a new bianchi infinito ultegra. Love to hear of others in my area who may want to ride with a new cyclist who is very enthusuastic but kind of fat until I cycle more.
I daydream about cycling at work, and can't wait to get out of there.

Age (general or specific): 30 for a couple more weeks. Yup, April baby.... parents were really original!

Occupation: Mechanic in the Coast Guard

Favorite bike: I have had so many. I collect bikes like old ladies collect cats. I think so far it was my strawberry shortcake solid rubber tires with red and white streamers and training wheels.

What's in your stable? Only one now is a 2009 Trek 7.5 FX

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? I don't know. I never clocked it. But not more then 25mph I am sure. I am afraid of getting run over again.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? none right now.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: That I would call him back when I never had the intention of talking to him again.

Most memorable moment on my bike: The funniest time I ever got hit while riding. I was in high school, riding my P.O.S. Target special bike home from school on a bike path right next to the street. A girl was a passenger in a car coming up fast behind me trying to play some sort of chicken. Well, I was coming up to a creek where there was no shoulder to the downhill. The girl had her head sticking out of the window and nailed my handlebar with her forehead. She got what she deserved... a nice trip to the hospital with whip lash and a bruised forehead. I was lucky and only got a side ache from laughing at her so hard.

Most fun ever had on a bike? When I was a kid and could take off for hours just cruising up the hills and turning around to go down as fast as we could. There would be absolutely no traffic for hours. That is of course a by gone era.

um, Cuttercoasty, can you ride your bike where you live? welcome to TE!

cuttercoasty
03-09-2011, 08:46 AM
Yes I can. But..... You have to be even more defensive at riding then you would if you were driving. This is the worst place I have ever been to where the drivers have no regard for anyone else.
Every single car has a dent or a dozen in it.... Deaths on the roads are no big deal. "Insha'Allah". Which means God Willing in Arabic. Which is used as God wills it. Children are not required to be in car seats, and they are commonly jumping around the inside of the cars like a jungle gym. Not kidding!

There is a bike path that runs from my flat to where I work. Of course it is a bike path but it doesn't prevent auto's from coming down there at full speed. I will take some video as soon as my camera makes it here.
I actually just started taking a spin class at the Navy Base a few times a week. Since I will not be able to ride when it is 120* here in a few weeks, I will keep working in the class. I have heard there is a mountain bike club here, but my off time is not free enough to go enjoy things like that.

I wanted to ride around the island, as it is not that big. But the recent civil unrest is preventing that. It has not subsided despite what the news is reporting. Protests almost daily. None as violent as they were two weeks ago, but nevertheless they are still happening.

My intentions upon retirement from the CG in a few years is to take a few months off and ride from the Oregon Coast(home) to where I just left from in Maine. I am a complete novice though. Need lots of training and knowledge. I am just a recreational/commute rider now.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? Don't know, but I there are some wicked hills near my house and I can at least keep up with cars on the same road just coasting.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Don't have any current ones at the moment and no pics of me on my bike either :(

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I told my mother I spent my birthday money on new clothing, but I spent it on a plane ticket to visit my friend in Utah... however, due to guilty conscience, I caved and told her where I was after I arrived.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Not on the bike I have now, but on the bike I had in college (a $75 Walmart special) I crashed into a fountain at school and scraped myself up pretty badly. Instead of stopping to check things over because people were watching with horror on their faces, I shouted, "I'm alright!!" and ran off.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Everyday is fun and it gets better and better as I improve. Hopefully I can get my bike fit correctly and then it won't hurt as much either to ride!

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? No records yet.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Sure. When I lose the chub.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: My husband locked us out of our car once while shopping a few years back; I was the spare key holder, but I had recently swapped purses and thought it was still on my desk. Took a taxi back home only to find it was actually in the back secret zipped pocket of my current purse the whole time. I never told him the truth and let him believe the key was actually at home to prevent him from exploding ;)

Most memorable moment on my bike: I'm new to the bicycling world. I'm right now doing indoor cycling (Spinning) to condition myself.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Yes, mom, of course I like boys...

Most memorable moment on my bike: Finishing the Ronda 101 km MTB race (in Ronda, Malaga), I still can't believe I made it up the "tajo" in Ronda. After going 99 km through the local sierra, the last 1.5 km are an ascent folks here call "La Cuesta del Cachondeo" (Loosely translated: the "Yagottabekidding me ramp"), in less than 2 km you climb almost 200 meters up what looks like a vertical wall...

Most fun ever had on a bike?: When I was living in Santa Cruz, CA (ca. 1998) a friend lent me her Trek 830. I was wearing, I kid you not, white sneakers, white socks, white shorts, white t-shirt. I rode all over Wilder Ranch, up to Empire Grade, across the UCSC campus and down the other side and back to town. When I came home, I had mud inside my ears and a grin the size of Texas. The next day I bought the 950!
The clothes I had to soak for a week to get the mud out :p

Least fun in a ride: Almost three years ago I had a monumental crash on a trail in the Sierra. I cracked the head of the shoulder bone, and they spent two hours picking little stones outta my leg and butt in the ER. This was a month before I opened my business, so rehab was delayed (by me), and it has taken me two years to recover full mobility and strength. In the meantime, 20 Kg. have found their way onto my hips and belly (don't know how:D). But I am now fully recovered, going to the gym for core and spinning exercises, and the roadie is on the trainer. And I'm doing Ronda next May if it kills me:) I'll keep y'all posted.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Maybe all the times I pass the professional cyclist in my town and they give me a respectful nod. Or when my friend said, "I saw you in my neighborhood the other day and said to my husband, "Damn she looks good on her bike."

Most fun ever had on a bike? Besides all the fun I had as a kid? Biking Berlin in Germany, and doing the East Berlin/Cold War tour with Fat Tire Bike Tours. That was such a blast.

Hey y'all!

Recently moved from NoCal to Texas (south of Dallas). The economy ate my job in CA but my parents invited me to come home so (thankfully) I have a roof over my head AND I'm back in my old home state.

Anybody in the Waxahachie-Midlothian-Ellis area? If yes, let me know. Once the heat abates I may be ready to try peddling again after a long absence.

Later!

Hi everyone. I just found this group today! I've only been biking 2 weeks so I'm really a newbie. Biking mostly for exercise and as a way to cope with losing my son. I really let myself go after he was killed and this year finally decided it's not what he would want. So far Ive lost 40 lbs and hoping biking will help take the rest off. Really enjoying it and so thankful my friend talked me into trying it again!

Real name: Pam

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? No clue, just got my bike computer but I'm sure it isn't fast.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? I prefer to be behind the camera! No pics of my bike.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: "I'm ok" Standard response when someone asks me how I'm doing in regards to my son.

Most memorable moment on my bike: I've only been riding a couple of weeks but would have to say it was when I crashed into a sign first time out while turning. I swear it reached out and grabbed me. Thankfully only my son witnessed that ever so embarrassing moment, but refuses to let me forget it.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Honestly I have to say is was back in the days I had one of my kids on the back.

Most memorable moment on my bike: The first time I tried to ride up this big hill near my house. I wasn't in any shape to be trying a hill like that to begin with, and it was the first time riding with my then BF (now DH). I had an exercise-induced asthma attack and was absolutely mortified. It was a horrible experience.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Getting up that hill that was my "Most memorable moment" a couple of weekends ago without issue. DH was with me then, too.

They had been out for several hours with no water for the dog and it was over 90 degress and humid. I gave him my water, got more water by sending the girl home to get some, gave him a Hammer Gel pak (this probably saved his life) and helped her get him into a wagon to get him home and to the vets.

Most fun ever had on a bike? AFTER my longest ride so far, 55 miles.

Most memorable moment on my bike: Realizing that after never really riding a bike in my life (not a bike rider when I was a kid - knew how, but had no interest) that my favorite exercise of all is riding my bike. A year ago I was in a hospital and awaiting meds to make me OK enough to have surgery that would save my life. In June I bought my first bike and fell in LOVE with the ride... but my bike sucked... so i traded up for the Trek that I am currently riding and I love it!!! I have a bike rally I have signed up for in October with the hubs... :D

What is the biggest lie you've ever told:

I can't remember, which means I've either told too many, or I don't lie! (I'll let ya'll pick!) - That works for me!

Most memorable moment on my bike:
I've had so many great moments, but oddly the day I demoed my little Rockhopper was the most memorable. Just a short little ride on a bike path, but I fell in love with that bike. I didn't buy it that day, but Dh bought it and gave it to me for my birthday/Christmas.

Most fun ever had on a bike?
Most fun ever was a couple weekends ago. Dh and I have started mtn. biking again, we spent 3 days in Bend Oregon riding trails. Rented a couple of FS bikes and had a blast rolling over rocks and roots. Who knew you could have so much fun going over the rough stuff. (Not that it was all that rough-they we're still easy trails). All bike rides are fun, but that weekend we took it to a new level!

Just wanted to post up and say Hi. I've lurked here off and on for a couple years actually as a guest, and thought it was time to sign up.

Okay, so here I am.

New lurker, new road cyclist, new everything.

I've known about Team Estrogen for quite a while, but I finally got a REAL road bike (mountain bike'd a bit back around 2004-2006; rode a vintage 1960s Western Flyer around a bit the last couple of years)

Anyway, I FREAKING LOVE MY BIKE! Did I mention that I love my bike?

It's winter in Minnesota. I've been out Saturday, Sunday, and today. (Got the bike about two weeks ago, snow on the roads till Saturday). I'm so stoked! And so bummed that winter is COMING!

I'm riding a Scott Contessa Speedster 15 with eggbeaters (nothing else mod'ed yet) and I'm loving it! First ride was a 20 miler, and I thought I was going to be dying the next day, but I wasn't, so I took it out for a ride Sunday, around 16 miles, and today I dashed out of work for half hour and did 8 miles, including stop lights!

Okay. I'm done being stoked.

I keep trying to upload a pic of my bike, and the forum keeps saying "upload failed". I'll figure it out eventually. :)

In the meantime, I'm too excited to not share!

Age (general or specific): 36

Occupation: Editor

Favorite bike: Favorite bike that I own? My beautiful new Scott Contessa Speedster 15 that I just got a couple of weeks ago.

What's in your stable? Above-mentioned Scott, and a vintage (1960s I think) Western Flyer 5-speed with twist grip shifters that weighs about 45 pounds and is slow and clunky and falling apart but still awesome!

Fastest speed on a road bike? No real idea, as I have not yet acquired a bike computer, but I went down a big hill really fast and was scared. A little.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? At some point here....

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I don't have THAT much wool!

Most memorable moment on my bike: Just started road biking, so it's all memorable. But I do remember being a kid, and riding a kids bike that had the handlebars off center, and I tried to make the handlebars go "straight", which of course made the wheel turn significantly, and landed me face first on an asphalt path and took all the skin off my nose, forehead and chin!

Most fun ever had on a bike? My first road ride ever, last Saturday, was AWESOME! About 18 miles, in 36 deg weather, and it was just AWESOME! I LOVED it!
