What is the biggest lie you've ever told: " That (dress, pair of jeans, shirt) looks great on you!"
Most memorable moment on my bike: So far, just buying one.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Oh, dear, adding a photo is beyond my skill level.
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Wow. I love you too. But, after a good while, I did.
Most memorable moment on my bike: I had to think about this one. I going to say the first day of the Great Divide tour I did w/my friend Beth. (I only did 8 days, she did the whole thing.) We started climbing the first pass in the mountains in Montana, and the weather changed from sunny & warm at the bottom, to rain & thunder, to sleet, to a light snow; and as we were climbing, I did a stupid thing, I got all three pairs of gloves wet. So, riding down the other side of the pass, wet gloves + speed = frozen hands. I had to take off the gloves and wrap bandannas around my hands. We also had to navigate around a pick-up truck w/a flat tire on a narrow road, & past fallen rocks, to the totally deserted camp ground, where all the wood was too wet to make a fire.
Most fun ever had on a bike? Ha, ha, ha! See above!! :D

Welcome to TE, missjean. Next time you get your gloves all wet, put a pair in your back pocket, where they will warm up and start to dry!

Most memorable moment on my bike: Going up a very steep gravel hill in 40-degree weather, pouring rain and being so unable to keep enough speed that I flopped over into the gravel and mud. It sucked, but I felt like bona fide cyclist after that.
Most fun ever had on a bike? Probably my very first 10-mile gravel ride in the country. Haven't stopped riding gravel since, and every time I pass by a new gravel road, I look down it to see whether it looks fun.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Nope.
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Lies? White or otherwise?
Most memorable moment on my bike: The Going to the Sun highway in Glacier National Park, two days after they opened the pass after the winter. It was snowing gently, and I rode between walls of ice that felt like biking into a refrigerator. And I made it. The downhill was probably the coldest ride in my life. I didn't know whether to stop to let my fingers thaw, or keep going because I the lower I got, the warmer the weather.
Most fun ever had on a bike? Death Valley, heading back from some huge mountain pass. Downhill, sun getting low in the sky, amazing colors, easy ride. True serendipity.

Welcome to TE Ednita!
Perhaps you may want to post your question in a new thread in the "Open topic" section. There are very experienced women in this forum that might hve good suggestions. What comes to mind is that, perhaps, a recumbent bike might be better to avoid pressure on your arms.

Real name: Becca
Where do you live? Omaha
Explanation of your handle: The princess and becca parts are self explainatory. The misspellings on both are an old joke from high school band. I missspelled it on a sign up sheet and they started calling me by the phoenetic pronunciation of the misspelling, "preen-s-bee-sah".

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: "I'll be right back"
Most memorable moment on my bike: Every ride seems to bring a memorable moment, but my biggest accomplishment was finishing the 84-mile day of hills on the People's Coast Classic ride for the Arthritis Foundation last September. My longest ride ever, for a great reason, and just two days before my 40th birthday!
Most fun ever had on a bike? That's a hard one, there's so much fun out there!
I remember being about 7 years old and riding bikes with my brother through the gutters after a big rainstorm. There must have been a foot of water (probably about 6-8 inches, but in my 7 year old mind it was a deep river) and we came home soaked. So fun, but Mom was not pleased.
A more current example would be my Mother's Day morning ride. An hour to myself, recovery ride from the day before so taking it a little easy, really noticing all the animals and plants I am so lucky to see on my rides, and smiling and waving to the TONS of cyclists out there that lovely sunny morning.

I am Jane, and I am looking for a new easier to ride, fairly light weight more upright bike. I have a chronic heart condition and will require a heart transplant one day. This new bike will help me stay well longer, as I am able. I won't be riding it too long or far, but it will be good for me. I have a Madone but find it too difficult for me to ride now. I may get back to it later. I am requesting your opinion. For a light weight, easy to ride more upright and cute bike. I think the Trek 7.4 WSD looks like it might be the one. I liked the 7.3 but the store didn't have the 7.4 in stock. I understand that it is lighter, but how muchnlighter I don't know. I would need a 15 frame. The 7.5 fx looks good by info, not in the store, but it is much more costly. Not sure I need to gomthatnhigh, as I have the Madone for later. I would love your feed back on the 7.4 WSD. I am very excited about this remarkable gift. Thank you all for your help. Jane

What's in your stable: Just one. My LeMond Alpe d'Huez was stolen last November. Am contemplating adding a commuter bike for running errands next.
Fastest speed on a bike: About 35 mph. See most memorable moment on my bike, below. Going downhill at Tahoe is hard to beat. Only doing 35 because I was braking the entire way down.
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: This? New? Nooo, it's been in my closet forever.
Most memorable moment on my bike: I just got back a week ago from the JDRF Ride to Cure (Type 1 Diabetes) in Lake Tahoe. The entire weekend surrounding the ride, which my sister and I did in memory of our brother who passed away a year ago (in Tahoe) of complications from diabetes, was absolutely life changing in every way. I truly felt my brother's presence as I was climbing those hills. I committed to do the ride in the fall of 2011...middle aged, overweight, out of shape and having not ridden a bike in years. In training for that ride, which had such special significance, I changed my life - went from desk jockey to full on adult onset athletics, lost 35 lbs and am fitter than I've been since I was 20-something and my sister and I bonded in new ways.
Most fun ever on a bike: See most memorable. I don't know that I can wait until next year to go back ... now thinking of signing up for the Tucson JDRF ride in November.
Picture of my sister and I at the finish line, Lake Tahoe, September 9, 2012 - hmmm, going to have to figure out how to correctly size pictures on this forum......

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Let's not go there.
Most memorable moment on my bike: Shortly after I started riding, I showed up to what was supposed to be an easy group ride. The other beginners bailed because of rain, and it ended up just being me and a couple racers. We rode to who-knows-where. I was afraid to get lost because I wouldn't be able to find my way home, and I was too stubborn to tell them to slow down. Climbing a switchback, I collapsed from exhaustion, unable to get my feet out of the clips. After that, they took it easy on me, but were very impressed with my determination.
Most fun ever had on a bike? Last weekend, about 65 miles into a century, I had what can only be described as a cyclists high. The sun was shining on my face and shoulders as I followed a winding river through the country. I dropped the entire pack and felt like I was flying.

Greetings all! I just started back riding bikes 2 weeks ago and have already upgraded. I am 56 retired RN who needed something to do to keep the weight from coming on by not working. I have lots of metal in my right ankle and my Ortho doc told me biking was a good rehab. I started on a box store Schwinn cruiser. After riding it 10 miles on one ride and feeling like I had been beat up I went to my LBS today. I came home with a Fuji Crosstown 2.1. I am in love with it. It is different from the cruiser but I feel like I am getting more of a work out from it. The seat is comfy. I just have to figure out how to change these gears. I have never has a bike with so many gears and on both sides of the handle bar. Any tips would be appreciated. I ride for stress release and have several bike trails I frequent.

Explanation of your handle: I take tons of photos-of everyone and everything else, just not myself. I was named Paparazzi after my group of girls and I went camping (most of which have never even stepped on a sidewalk much less a wooded area out in the middle of absolutely no-where) and we were sitting around the campfire telling stories when all of a sudden we hear "CRACK, crack crackle" and one of the girls, in very slow motion, starts falling sideways. Her chair broke. Well while everyone was jumping up to help out- I jumped up, grab the camera and started snapping photos! It's priceless, they dubbed me "Paparazzi" and we talk about it all the time, and the photos never go away. I love my girly get togethers.
Explanation of your avatar: I love the coast/beaches. I'm a beach bum by birth. :D
Age (general or specific) 42

Favorite bike: IDK. I'm pretty happy on my new Trek Cali but I'm pretty happy on the beach cruiser too! Different reasons, different rides.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? HAHA...I'll work on this and update later-you don't want to know right now.
Another picture of yourself or your ride? I take the pictures rarely ever in them...but maybe I'll work on that too.
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: "No mom, I didn't DO THAT!"
Most memorable moment on my bike: Working on this too...
Most fun ever had on a bike? Maybe I should stop working on this "getting to know you" and do it much later; like when I have real stories to tell...? LOL :p

Most memorable moment on my bike: Lot’s of good memories….a hard day of climbing in the Santa Monica Mountains, riding in the beautiful Santa Ynez valley, the other worldly views riding in Joshua Tree National Park and riding in Big Sur and discovering Pfeiffer Beach to name a few.
Oh my gosh, the photo is beautiful! And, I used to live in Monterey, visited Carmel, Joshua Tree NP, Big Sur so often. Surfed the area too. Of all the many, many places I've lived, Monterey area is the one I'd return too. (Well I say that now but haven't been there '93, maybe I'd feel differently?? I loved it so much!)

http://www.audunn-marie.com/Cycling2013/Blaine-MVandbikeweb.jpg
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: “You’re right. I totally agree with you.”
Most memorable moment on my bike: The first time I test rode my Vigorelli—a bike that actually fits me—was a revelation. I had been riding a Kona bike that was too big for me, and I was always anxious riding it. When I test rode the Vigorelli around the Lake Washington Loop, I could climb more easily, descend confidently, and just had a ball riding. I had a huge grin on my face the entire time. I finally understood everything my husband was saying about having fun riding.
Most fun ever had on a bike? Doing rollers, especially on the Kitsap Peninsula but really anywhere that has long stretches of open road. I hate climbing, but I love descending. I love any route with rollers where I can pick up enough speed descending that I don’t have to climb very much to crest the next hill.

I've been lurking and posting some in a male dominated forum and just happened to hear them mention this one. I'm like a fish out of water over there so I thought I would try this. I've been riding my entire life but not on quality bikes. My employer gave me my first Trek MTB for 30 years of service. They gave me the Trek hybrid for my retirement of 36 years of service. I'm still trying to figure it out since it's more of a road bike than anything. The speed scares me some but it does better on all these killer hills around here. Anytime I do anything I want to know as much about it as I can. I'm in good condition considering that I'm probably considered older than dirt in this sport but I'm active. I live on a farm back in the hills so I do farm work. I have five dogs that I care for. I rescued three of them. One of them weighs 150 pounds so I get a workout there. :D I work out at the gym, hike, and ride a bike. My daughter is 40 and I can keep up with her on a bike. I am also starting to run some. I might occasionally ask stupid questions so just humor me. I'm trying to learn. I didn't realize that riding a bike had become so complicated. LOL

Thousands of kilometers later we still grin uncontrollably when we take it out.

I've been working courier jobs in Boston for the past 5+ years and just moved back here a few months ago, but I think the weather is pretty much identical in both places.
Winter riding is pretty easy- just get the layers right and watch out for the more-homicidal-than-usual drivers, but it's really the only practical way to get around a place like Boston that time of year unless you like unreliable trains and digging cars out and near total gridlock all day everywhere. I guess we'll see how Buffalo is driver-wise, it's still 60 degrees out.
We'll be doing mostly cargo bike work here.

Where do you live? Gabriola Island, BC
Explanation of your handle: I've been pericat on the net for the last 20 years.
Explanation of your avatar: that's my boy Cardhu and my very new Cross Check, on first ride after getting home from a long day at the bike shop.
Age (general or specific) late 50's
Favorite bike: see that Cross Check?
What's in your stable? 2002 DeVinci Rio
Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? I've never actually been on a road bike. And I don't generally go fast; but making it up ferry hill the first time non-stop was a most satisfying milestone. Getting up big hills without puking is more where I'm at than going really fast down them.
Another picture of yourself or your ride? Hm. Here's a blog post from last spring featuring the Rio: pericat.ca (http://pericat.ca/unlock/2015/05/19/the-bike-i-do-all-this-biking-on)
Most memorable moment on my bike: My partner and I were out on the trails, and had stopped to check the map on my ipod. I was just standing, and a rock under my foot shifted and over I went. All I could think was to make sure the ipod landed safely, so as I was going down, I tossed it onto a clump of grass and moss. Because priorities, y'know.
Most fun ever had on a bike? Riding the local trails is the best! And as it's a sunny day, I'm going to go do that some more.

Real name: Not actually "Jane" :-)
Where do you live? Indianapolis
Explanation of your handle: It's supposed to sound like "Indiana Jones" but...feminine? I'm not sure people get it.
Explanation of your avatar: I don't have one. Maybe I should get one. Hm.
Age: Mid-30's
Occupation: College professor
Favorite bike: I covet touring bikes, particularly the Co-Motion Americano.
What's in your stable? Marin San Rafael Dual Sport (a hybrid -- I like it generally, and it does what I want. It goes nicely from commuting to longer rides including on gravel, crushed limestone, hardpacked dirt. etc. very versatile. my only complaint is about the front suspension, which I never have turned on and so just adds weight)
Fastest speed on a road bike? Slow, heh. My fastest full mile on the flat is about 19 mph or so if I recall correctly, but most of my rides I average 12-14 mph.

HI! I live in Columbus, Indiana, but I work in Indy. I often ride in Indy (mainly the Monon - from downtown where I work to Broad Ripple). I've also in the past been an adjunct with IUPUI. So we might have stuff in common! Welcome.

We've probably passed each other on the trail! I'm on it several times a week -- for commuting (SoBro to downtown) or for pleasure (usually SoBro to Westfield, sometimes SoBro to Fall Creek to ride some loops on the Harrison Trace Trail out at Fort Ben).

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 41 mph in upstate NY, going down hill. Nearly lost it. Stupidest bike mistake of my life. Never, again.
Another picture of yourself or your ride? I don't have very many pixs of myself - I hate having my pix taken
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: not in my nature .. well, there was this one guy who thought I was much younger than I really was. :)

Where do you live: Calumet, Michigan
Explanation of your handle: I've been a cross-country skier since I was 9. My first love. The "2" is because I had to create a new account. I'm an old forum member, but had been away for a long time - forgot my password, and have a different email address now so I couldn't reset it. Tried contacting the forum admin a few weeks ago, but never got a response.
Explanation of your avatar: Pic of a bear that has been coming around this spring. Taken from my upstairs bathroom window.
Age (general or specific): 50
Occupation: Mechanical engineer
Favorite bike: hmmmmmm
What's in your stable? Jamis Xenith Pro, Trek Pilot 5.0, Trek 520, Trek Fuel EX 9
Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 45 mph, Lake Linden hill, maybe 10 years ago. Haven't gone over 40-42 in a while.
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I'd say I never lie, but you'd think I was lying!
Most memorable moment on my bike: So many! Although, the most memorable would have to be the moment I broke my ankle on my mountain bike ;). Whacked my handlebar on a bent-over small tree, flew over the handlebars, cleats didn't release, so my fibula had to. Had to ride out - glad I was with a friend!
Most fun ever had on a bike? First solo century, when I was in college. A great feeling of accomplishment!
Hey Skierchickie, welcome back, who did you used to be on TE??

Age (general or specific): 37
Occupation: Neuroscientist
Favorite bike: Specialized Tri-Cross Sport
What's in your stable? Specialized Tri-Cross Sport
Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 65 kph flying down Burnaby Mountain in the rain after my brakes gave out. I don't have any depth perception, so I usually keep speeds way below that!
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I guessed the correct answer on my driver's eye exam then conveniently left out my lack of depth perception in my medical history.
Most memorable moment on my bike: Rode my first century as part of a charity ride. I was alone in a sea of strangers, convinced I wouldn't make it. But I did manage to haul my exhausted plus-size carcass across the line ahead of half the pack.
Most fun ever had on a bike? My first real mountain trail descent. It was crazy scary and a huge rush. I was coached down by one of my dearest friends.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I don't like to lie and I don't like being lied to. Honesty is the best policy.
Most memorable moment on my bike: I was six years old, my parents bought me my first bike. It was a Schwinn (unknow model), baby blue in color and it was a boy's bike. I remember placing my left foot on the pedal, both hands on the handlebars and pushing off. I was filled with the feeling of freedom and adventure. I remember it like it was yesterday and when I begin each bike ride I have the same feeling.
Most fun ever had on a bike? Every time I get on my bike is a memorable and exciting.
