OTOH, our son is AMAZINGLY bad at finding things. Granted, we expect a lot from him because he's otherwise very capable for a ten-year-old - but he can look in a drawer full of clothes for, say, a pair of socks like this: push aside a couple of t-shirts, glance vaguely over the rest, and then conclude that there are no socks in that drawer. Quite funny, actually
Ah, but your son sounds exactly like MY HUSBAND - who is over 50! Hope he grows out of it!

Well, Spokewench, you can always hope, but the prospects are not good--MY DH is about to turn 60 and STILL can't find something that's staring him in the face.

    Welcome to married life Grog!

When my kids couldn't find something, mostly because they were too lazy, I charged them a dollar if I found it. It made them look a little harder before they came asking me. Not sure if it works with husbands though....

My mom's line was always "YOU HAVE TO MOVE THINGS!!!". That's a standard line in my house now...

My younger son was always coming home with stuff he found on the ground. We christened him good at finding things. It helped him break the chain of "can't find anything" he would have inherited from his father.

Most of the time that DH is storming through the house looking for small object X, I ignore him. Sometimes I just go and get it.

Of course I lose things too; but he definitely has it more seriously than I do.
Being the age that he is, he often just buys replacements and then finds the original later. This does not help much for car keys and wallets.

Neither BF nor I can find the butter dish. Who loses a butter dish? I think he did it.

    it's a mystery

Well, in my house it's the XX that causes the problem with lost stuff. I specialize in "poofing" things. You know, it was in your hand 30 seconds ago, and now it's vanished? But it works both ways, I also excel in finding lost stuff. My haul so far is two twenties, one fifty, a whole bunch of fives and ones, more pipes than any nonsmoker needs, a lotta junk jewelry which I kept, and one very expensive ring with lotta diamonds that I turned in. I can also find lost objects for people better than most.
