    banana-type saddle bag

    Yay! New bike GEAR category!

Thought I'd start by mentioning that I am very pleased with this waxed canvas saddle bag I got for my Rivendell bike from Velo-Orange:
    http://www.velo-orange.com/saddlebag.html

It's much like the Rivendell "banana bag"...except there is no back-order waiting list! Got mine right away, fits beautifully behind my Brooks saddle and narrow enough not to bump against my legs as I peddle. It's just the right size to carry my extra tube, flat changing tools, a cable/lock. a blinkie, a couple of bandanas, and even my little money purse with my ID. I like the strap over the top, where I could conceivably roll up some extra gloves or leg warmers or a light shirt and tuck it under the strap. I like the canvas look with my leather saddle.

    Very nice.

I don't understand why you keep getting the backordered thing at Riv though, the B. bag has been available for at least a month.

This is gorgeous! Classic! Thinking of Sunday afternoons in the English countryside with a girlfriend and intelligent conversation over a Devonshire tea

Looks like, even with all that, it would still take a couple of actual bananas.

    You guys are too funny!!

Can I sip latte instead of Devonshire tea, though? Will it still count?

Called Rivendell a couple weeks ago and they had no more banana bags for now, and said they would get more in "maybe in a couple of months". Went ahead and got this one instead and am very pleased. (P.S. this is the company that USED to make the banana bags for Rivendell, but doesn't anymore, so now they just make their own version.)

Frost River is the manufacturer of that bag. Velo Orange is the distributer and designer of that bag. Velo Orange never made bags for Riv.

Yes you are correct, I meant that the bag I got is made by the people who used to make Rivendell's banana bags for them. That would indeed be frost river, and Velo Orange distributes them.

Just goes to show, shop on line with Riv, people on the phone must not know - the bags are in stock. It only took a few days for me to get mine.

    Bump!

Just saw this thread, and I wanted one of those velo orange bags, but darnit! They are sold out. Found Frost River and I just ordered this bag. I like the fact that it's waxed canvas. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread! I had been looking for a bag that wasn't black and synthetic to go with a Brooks retro look. Why is it that I won't pay this much for a purse, but I didn't even BLINK at paying this for my beloved bike?
