The BF and I recently adopted a dog. He's very sweet and very smart. He doesn't have strong signals to let us know when he needs to go out. He hasn't had an accident in the house since the first week we brought him home but BF and I are outside a lot during the day and he goes out with us. So he doesn't really have to let us know when he has to go, he gets plenty of opportunity.
But sometimes, especially in the evening if we're doing computer work or entertaining, he will do some things that will indicate that he needs to go out but they aren't obvious. You really have to be paying attention. So a friend of ours told us about a trick, you teach the dog to ring some jingle bells that hang from the door knob before he goes out each time.
BF and I have been consistently getting our dog to "touch"/ring the bells before we go out for about 1 week. Tonight he rang the bells while I was on the computer working. Sure enough, he needed to go out.
I know it's not a big deal, but I really am a very proud dog mama right now.![]()
