Sew In Chamois

I found that MEC sells a separate women's chamois. I thought I would get one of these to sew in my tights that are chamoisless. Has anyone purchased one of these chamois and tried this? If yes, do you have any tips for sewing it in? I was thinking that I could use a larger zig-zag stitch, polyester thread and appropriate size needle and use my shorts to see where to best position it.

the short answer is yes, you can do it. I have how to make your own chamois and install it on my bike shorts sewing tips pages.

I wonder if the MEC chamois is the same as the one Seattle Fabrics sells. If it is, I think it's icky as it's very diaper like, just my opinion.

it looks more shaped than the Seattle Fabrics one, I may just have to order one and try it out.

I don't think so.

You might as well try the one that Seattle Fabrics sells. I think it's $11/us and only a couple of bucks to ship.

Aah, it feels good to hear an American resident complain about shipping rates...

(We Canadian residents pay such premium shipping rates - in US $ mind you - all the time for merchandise shipped from South of the border... when the seller actually agrees to ship to Canada, which is not to be taken for granted.)

It's kind of frustrating to get a simple package with $4.50 of postage when you paid $10 or $20 for shipping, isn't it? I guess part of that steep markup on postage comes from the time of the person who actually has to get our of his/her way to ship to the other country (more paperwork to fill for border-crossing packages). But still.

that quote is for express postage. Too bad they just can't stick it in an envelope with a few stamps on it. I mail order from Textile Outfitters in Calgary all the time, I sure as heck don't pay $19 for a few yards of fabric coming down here. It takes a little longer to go surface but jeez...

Yes, my dears, sending packages to other countries is expensive. There is a lot of paperwork that needs to be completed as well as possible inspection at the border (thank you 9/11).

Anytime you cross a border there are consequences. Unfortunately, the price comes out of our pockets!

You think Canada is bad, at my workplace if we ship something from San Francisco to Europe the minimal charge is $80.00 and that's just for a 1-5lb package!

I have just posted my family Xmas presents to Aust and yep I could nearly have flown there and hand delivered them for the price.

Surface shipping between Canada and the US is actually quite fast, and sometimes faster than Express because customs seem to care less about those "cheap" packages. I've never had to wait more than 4-5 business days.

US to Canada - always go USPS. Fedex and UPS cost a HUGE amount and take up to two weeks LONGER! It makes no sense.

Irulan, why not see if someone in Canada, like maybe Grog who actually lives in Vancouver where there is an MEC store, to pick up the chamois and mail it to you? You could cover the cost using Paypal.... just a thought.

Well, Irulan, it depends how quickly you need it. I'll probably place an order before Christmas, which will be lower shipping as it is in Canada, but it will come up here to Williams Lake. Once I get it, I can turn around and mail you your item...
