    Happy Birthday....from my mom

My non-cycling (actually pretty much non-anything) mom wanted to know what I wanted for my birthday, which was two weeks ago, but hey. Timely, since I just found out that if I want a new all carbon 1" colnago fork, it will run me a sweet 800.00....the less expensive one is only carbon legs....around 500.00 (worth the 300 for a carbon steerer? anyone?). I asked her to pitch in for this as my birthday present...she called to day to tell me she had sent off a check for "my new bike"...I'm pretty sure it will cover the full carbon (or the lesser and a few other doodads). Yay mom!
She said it was less expensive than my horse, so I think she was actually relieved.

Yay Kenyonchris! I have to send my mom $300 every month so she can pay rent (but I own the house, so I guess it all goes to the bank anyhow).

LOL. You are a good daughter. My mom loves to make me happy (I have worked hard all my life, since I was 17, I usually have two jobs at once, so I don't consider myself TOO spoiled)...I totally appreciate her!!!!!! She paddles around her house in Montana, missing my dad, rearranging the furniture and spoiling her dogs. I can't convince her how I am buying a PART of a bike, so she is happy thinking she is buying me a "new bike."
She mused about buying herself a bike after I told her about the cruisers with big, cushy seats that she did not have to be at all in shape to ride. But she then decided it might put her in proximity of a bear or wolves, and ditched it.

OK Thanks a lot! I was already worried about bears and mountain lions for our trip to Montana, and now I have to worry about wolves! Hadn't thought of that one!

Awwww... what a sweet mom!!! Happy late b-day. Too cute that she thinks she's buying you a new bike. She'd probably have a heart attack if she knew that it's just one tiny part of the bike that costs that much.

WHen are you going to be there? I am going in two weeks. We are going to visit my mom, visit yellowstone, the louis and clark stuff. Hiking, but not taking the bikes.
My mom says that the wolves are way more of a threat than bears.

    Your mom rocks and rolls!!!
And yes - the full carbon fork is definitely worth it. If you really do not want to spend the extra $ 300, then my suggestion would be to change make and buy a full carbon fork that is not a Colnago (for example the Easton EC90 SL, or some of the other suggestions from the fork thread).
But you have to call you mom and tell her: "YOU ROCK'!
By the way, happy belated b-day!!!
