    Recovering more personal time

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I started my new job which was mentioned awhile back:
    http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=28420

Now it feels abit strange to now have so much more personal time.
Well, I recovered more personal time that I lost in my previous job due to too much commuting time and getting up earlier to get to work.

I figured I have regained 4.5 hrs. of personal time DAILY ..in this new job. Which means I was in (semi-comatose) denial in my last job to survive the trek and less sleep.

On top of all this, I chose the benefit of a compressed work week program for this new job. Means I work longer daily hrs., but every 3 wks. get Monday off. This is in addition to regular vacation days.

It's amazing how much time we loose 'for work'. I wish I could work a 10 hr day/4 days a week. I did it before and loved it.

So glad you are liking the shorter commute! Best of luck in the new job.

the City had compressed work week - 8.75 hours 4x/week. Then the NPA decided to get rid of it. And they wonder why the morale went down and absenteeism shot up

We're hoping Gregor will be a bit more open to reinstating that. I mean, if we're supposed to be such a "Green" city, why make their employees commute long ways and pollute 10x/week??

Badger, I did work for a former employer over a decade ago, which was government where compressed work week program was offered as an option.

Unfortunately the head honchos took it away because they discovered alot of people weren't working their full longer days. Missing people were noticed when experts in the organization were desperately needed to assist in investigations and also to respond to journalists/press. All it took was a few bad apples to spoil it all for everyone else.

yup, you hit it dead on the nose. It was apparently the building inspectors. They were all taking Fridays off and many aspects of construction were halted because inspectors were willy nilly. So, we ALL lost it.

What really sucked was when I was hired, they had already decided to get rid of compressed work week. I was one of the first batches of new hires who didn't get compressed work week. So for the first year, I worked 5 days when everyone else worked only 4, and what sucked even more was they didn't work any longer hours than I did. It's no secret snivel servants are lazy sods

Shootingstar, I am sure you will find plenty of things to do with your new found time! One thing I noticed since I am on a student's schedule now, is that even though I stay up later, the quality of my sleep is better. It's not that I sleep in everyday, because I still get up by 6-6:30 and many days I am up at 5:30. I think it's just knowing I don't have to rush around in the morning and get all stressed out about it. After getting up at 4:30-5:00 for like the last 25 years, I am seeing a different side of life.
