Talking 6 years ago, the Harley D. Dog came into our lives

Hard to believe it has been 6 years since we adopted our Aussie, Harley, from a rescue down in GA. I was going back through old saved emails and found the pics that has foster mom took of us the day we picked him up to bring him home with us to CT.

Please don't look at me, I hate how I looked then...one of the reason I started biking!!!

He is an incredible and special dog. Someone intentionally ran him over with a pickup truck and left him to die. Thankfully a rescue volunteer witnessed the accident and was able to get him to a vet in time to save his life. We were down in GA helping my stepdad who had just had open heart surgery and I saw him at a pet adoption at Petsmart. Something clicked between me and that dog and I just had to have him. Thankfully Hubby was as smitten as I was.

Hard to believe it is 6 years this week. He's a little grayer around the face but he still has the wonderful happy doggie smile!

That is a great story and Harley is so lucky!

I am incredibly happy to read stories like this. And YOU look happy too so even though cycling might've changed your body composition, it's a fantastic picture.

I love the look Harley is giving your DH in the first picture. It's amazing how they know. We have rescues that knew where their home was before we did.

There are a few things that really irk me (thievery for one thing, from a previous thread ) and cruelty to animals is one of them. We can only hope that Harley's current life is better than the person who did him harm 6 years ago. I'm thinking it is.

Velo, it really was Fate! I saw him on Saturday and convinced DH to go back on Sunday to go see him with me. When we got there on Sunday, HE WASN'T THERE!!! I found the woman from the rescue and asked where he was, thinking someone else had beaten us to him. Turned out that her husband had decided that since no one had adopted him in the couple of months that they had been trying that they were just going to keep him at their house with the other unadoptable dogs that they had. So the day I saw him was the last time that they were going to bring him to the adoption days!!!!

She called home and made her hubby get off the lawn mower and bring Harley down so my DH could meet him.

Then they found out that we lived out of state and that almost nixed the adoption. The resuce was just in the process of implementing a rule for no more out of state adoptions. Thankfully the woman realized it was too good of a match and went through with it. So it was all just meant to be.

He has some permenant injuries from him meeting up with that truck but nothing that we aren't willing to cope with for such a good dog!

I have no words to express my outrage at the mere existence of people who would do such a thing.

Bless you for adopting a needy dog. I hope you have many more years of mutual love ahead. It's amazing what these sweet and gentle beings bring into our lives. This is just like my thread from last week: http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=26025

I am a firm believer that Aussie's pick their people more than the other way around. Harley knew he could trust you and rely on you. I'm so happy he's had you in his life after such a horrid beginning. I cannot even imagine the coldness it would require to do that to any dog, let alone an Aussie. My friends call my boy a human with doggie manners - he's such an incredible dog - like all Aussie's are. Bless you both! And here's to many more happy years!!!

Especially love the 2nd pic. If Harley could speak it's almost as if he's saying,
    "Yeah! I'm goin' home!"

Harley is beaming with happiness in both of those pics...I am in agreeance with rij73's comment about being in outrage about people that would do such a thing. You were all meant to be together..pure joy abounds in both pics of the whole family!
