Hi Ladies.
Im brand spanking new! My name is Bethany and I Am 22 yrs. I live in west palm beach florida. My bike riding adventures started when my fiance started commuting to work via bike. We both got real cheap mongoose department store mountain bikes. He road his everyday and me seldom..he decided he wanted a road bike, and I freaked when he told me the price.. after he bought it, I tried my damnest keeping up on the ole' mongoose.. didnt work! So this past weekend I went and got myself a bikeIt is an 07 jamis ventura sport. I really like it a lot. Ive never been an avid biker, or any sport lover. I am so happy to report, that yesterday I did my first 25 mile bike ride! This was with no training .. i kind of shocked myself. my average speed was 15-16. I am not a fit person.. Ive struggled with my weight all my life. I recently quit Taking birth control pills, because it aided me in gaining 15 lbs in 3 months. Riding makes me feel in control, strong, and sexy. I hope this is the beginning of many many more miles. I Look forward to the changes my body will make. I hope to get to know you all, and become a part of your online family. I just signed up for the challenge, and Im pumped!
Hi Bethany, welcome to the forum!
Hi Bethany,
I just got a Jamis Ventura Sport too- mine's a leftover '06. Hubby got the '06 Ventura Comp, which I tried but it was too long for me. I know you're feeling of how great it is to cover mileage on the Sport- I too come from mountain biking mostly on the roads. It's crazy how fast it is compared to my old heavy clunker of a mtn bike! Very addicting!

Welcome Bethany, glad you made it over here!![]()
15-16 mph on a 25-mile ride with no training--that's great! I'd have to say you should reconsider your statement about being "not a fit person"...you're off to a great start! And I'm impressed that you managed that in FL heat to boot--I have issues with the summers here, let alone down there!!

Congratulations and welcome! Sounds like you are off to a great start! Riding that heavy mountain bike make you really strong it sounds like!
Keep riding and reading the forums! You will learn so much.
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside thoroughly used-up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!!"
Hello howdy hey
Keep riding, be safe, have fun![]()
thanks everyone for your kind welcome! its a great feeling, knowing you have support.. i want to get some riding gear but my my it is expensive!! i really am not fond of my legs .. so hopefully after a few more long rides, i will build some lean muscle and not be so intimidated to show them ... all of my family carry weight in the thighs/hips. is it possible to reconstruct your body with the genetics given? i think it possible, but a struggle nonetheless.
You don't have to get everything right away! Buy stuff that's on sale or here on the For Sale section!
I have an old jersey and possibly some socks if you'd like them?
Don't panic about your legs, they will get stronger etc..give it time and don't worry if you don't get to the destination (per se) right away...
