    Science Marches On

OK, so I'm a bit of a science geek and I like this stuff (and almost understand it ). Readers Digest version is there's possibly a new way to cheat as yet undetectable.

Article on this in NYT science section today (Tuesday) as well.

My university was recently recruiting "healthy, active, but non-elite" test subjects for research on muscle fatigue. I was intrigued but didn't respond partly out of laziness and partly out of a requirement that participants must "not be currently using any supplements" and it seemed like too much work to find out if the multivitamin, flaxseed, calcium, aspirin regimen I'm on counted as banned supplements. (Seriously, are there any women of childbearing age who don't take calcium supplements? I don't have any intention of having children, I just buy the hype about building strong bones, esp. because my birth control can have negative impact on bone density).

I should see if they're still recruiting, I could get a free fitness assessment out of it .

I was a guinea pig once for a exercise phys study. I learned loads about myself - VO2 max, pulmonary function tests, under water weighing for body fat %, detailed dietary analysis, metabolic hormone levels and I can't remember what else. It was well worth a couple of weeks of inconvenience.

Wahine, is that why your quote says "she's a little dense" - based on your body fat analysis? : )

In a sense. I'm a size 4 to 6 depending on the company and I am still an Athena triathlete. So when people say things like "There's no way you're an Athena" my husband promptly replies "She's just a little dense". I still love him.

And Zen, I still love you too.
