    My clever husband....

    To disable ads, please log-in.

He took a Filson brand canvas shoulder bag and adapted it as a front touring bike bag on his Rambouillet:

He'll be riding it on his first century on Saturday with a friend.
He did the same thing and made 2 panniers out of Filson bags as well.

(I'll be home shoveling two pickup truck loads of mulch into place that Saturday, drinking iced tea, eating ice cream, and gardening all day)

The iced tea and gardening sounds okay, if it's not too hot -- but that's a heck of a lot of mulch to spread by yourself!

I love your husband's bag. I guess I need to google Filson bags, because that's a new brand to me.

I love the bag. I'd like to be at your house with you in your garden drinking ice tea. Or maybe just bring my bike there and go on a ride with you.
I'm so sad with all the rain we have been getting we can't get out and do anything.
Can I come play with you in your garden?

Texas has really been getting it bad, it was a year ago this week that my house was flooded but at least it wasn't completely destroyed. I'm getting out of here and going condo.

    Interesting.
    That's not a bike-specific bag?
How/Where did he get the rear brace for it and what did he use to develop the wrap around under the lock-nut for his stem?

But I agree with Zen...I think your hub got the better end of the deal.

Watch out Lisa! The last time I tried to shovel two truckloads of mulch I pulled muscles in my back & couldn't ride my bike for two weeks. I'd rather be riding, pay someone else to mulch, and then come home and sit in the newly mulched garden, drinking iced tea! Of course, that would be in the world in which I had all the money I needed to hire someone to do those things....

No, that's my choice!- I can ride whenever I want to- and I do!
But I'm looking forward to putting in the mulch and seeing how lovely my gardens look afterwards- can't wait!

Filson is a very old company that makes classic outdoor clothing and camping gear. They don't make bike bags, but my DH made panniers and a front bike bag out of Filson's "field bags".

OK Donna. You make and serve us the iced tea all day and "supervise", and I'll shovel the mulch. Then we'll go for a nice easy ride and stop for ice cream at Ralph's Cafe in town on the way back.

No it's not a bike bag. See above explanation. My DH designed the complete metal brace attachment system for it and had a friend of ours who is a machinist make it. The leather parts of the bag were all as is. My DH can do anything!!! (brag brag....)

My garden has been neglected due to my biking for almost a year now, and I'm happy to spend a few days getting it looking nice again. Hey I rode 32 miles this morning- don't worry I'm biking plenty.
