    New (to me) Bianchi Mixte

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I'm a Bianchi girl now! I have a new commuter, which I won on ebay. It's a fixed gear, which I'm getting used to, and I find I like. I put on new bars, leather grips, new brakes, cables, pedals, stem and a Brooks saddle from LisaSH. Silver seatpost will be installed soon. I have silver rear baskets ordered - inspiration straight from Xeney's pink Nishiki! I'm thinking it's late 70s or early 80s. I haven't really researched it yet, so if anyone knows anything about it, I'd love to hear. Oh, and I know I need to weed the Day Lilies.

    1. As it was on ebay
    2. As it is now!

I guess I forgot to whom I was posting! My grass needs to be cut, my flowers weeded, but it doesn't stop me from loading my bike on the back of my car and heading out on the weekends while I pass my neighbors mowing their yards. I feel guilty, for oh, about 1 minute. I do wish I had a little less than 2 acres to mow though!

Lisa, Indeed your sit bone dents ARE in Missouri. Thanks for your kind words. It really doesn't take much creativity, though, to see that the red bar tape just didn't work with the light silvery sparkly paint. I also think my bikes are getting closer and closer to that blue JC Higgins I had when I was 12. Thanks for the saddle and the extra proofhiding!

Gee that's NICE!! I think you're right: late 70's - early 80's. Are those SunTour XC/ XC II pedals???
Welcome to the Bianchi world. Hope you get many enjoyable rides together!

Nice mixte! And definitely an improvement with the handlebars and saddle replacements.

What is it about mixte frames that makes them so aesthetically appealing?

Very nice bike I like the mixte frames (mine's a Raleigh).

Don't forget there's much more important things than gardening - like riding your bike(s)
There are a lot of unwanted, unloved bikes out there - go on give a bike a good home

What a make over you've done. She's perty as they say. Looks much better after the "flip" than before. And I had to go back and look after you mentioned you needed to weed the daylilies. I hadn't noticed, and as zencentury states, who's lookin at the daylilies? Enjoy!

The pedals are just cheapo BMX pedals I put on because they are wide and I'm still trying to get used to the fixed gear. I wanted something substantial to put my foot on. I may go with something different, but right now I just want to hop on and off. I think riding a fixed gear is harder than my first time with clipless. I keep forgetting that I can't coast, and then my leg gets jerked, and then stopping is a "whole 'nother thing!" I do like how much control fixed gear gives me over my speed, and I'm getting better at using my feet to slow down and not the brakes.

Mimi - I didn't know Bianchi had a mixte either. I was watching out for a Nishiki when I saw this one. I'm having a lot of trouble finding info on it. Probably not one of their major sellers way back when.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
