AppleTree, I was looking at your avatar and thought "I just saw that ... but where?" and then I remembered this blog post I read earlier today.

THANKS so much jobob for the info on the American River Bike Trail! Sounds like a heavenly bike ride...I think even I can handle that altitude gain. I love that part of California.

I was very interested in the story of the bike tree! I "borrowed" the photo from a bike blog, and maybe it was even that one, I can't remember now, but I never did see what the story was. What a coincidence!

Tulip when are you doing the Natchez Trace? It is a beautiful place to ride.

Yes, inquiring minds want to know! [We're set to go this fall]

Hmm...and "Toronto - Quebec City" Vraimant? That was on our short-list for summer, but it doesn't look probable. I loved Quebec City and the Quebec country side.

Mississippi in the Spring. Thorn, send me a PM if you want details for your trip planning. For the Canada trip, it's been shortened to only Ottawa to QC so we can spend a few days in QC afterwards. Its one of my favorite cities. I would consider living there if it weren't so cold in the winter!

Our only trips are the two weekend trips to Bristol, TN for the NASCAR races. However we are planning on buying locks (once we decide/figure out the best locks on the market) so that we can take the mountain bikes with us for transportation from where we park the truck to the track and back. The track as install are nice long fence along the front area where there are tons of people who lock their bikes to that fence for the day while inside the track for the day. We are planning on joining those people. We aren't sure, but we think that bike parking is part of why they put that fence in, because there are no bike racks anywhere at the track.

That's a funny combo: NASCAR and bicycles. I live a few miles from a major NASCAR track; I never would suspect that NASCAR fans would bring their bikes to the races, but it's a good idea.

We go to Bristol every year and for the most part you're parking at least a half mile from the track if not farther away. Plus the farther away the more reasonable prices people charge you to park in their yards or businesses. The other tracks I've been to (Charlotte, Michigan, Indianapolis, Rockingham, and Darlington) I've never seen people using bikes as transportation, but it's actually very common at Bristol. I really think the layout of the track and not having a lot of parking right at the track is part of it.

The following week we'll be staying in a house on Lopez Island in the San Juans. We'll bop around there and load our bikes on the ferry for day rides on some of the other islands, including a ride up Mt. Constitution.

Family stuff has come up so we had to postpone this trip. Maybe we'll try to take it this fall.
