    Cycling trips planned this year?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Of course, we do out of town bike trips that we've only planned the week before leaving. But thought I'll ask any....

This year we're doing the usual trips Vancouver Island and a Gulf Island for 2 days, another trip in the Banff-Rocky Mtns. area. Each of these trips will have some different changes where we stay, where we eat/see. I'm not sure if Santa Barbara, California is on...it depends on a parent's health. If not, then it's cycling about in Toronto.

I have no idea if we will embark on cycling out to Dinosaur country...Alberta Badlands version where truly the dinosaurs did roam.

No trips overseas that we have planned.

He has his own solo bike trip plans, which I can't partake because I work full-time. So I hear about his trips vicariously.

My DH is going to a conference in LA, and I'm coming with my bike. We are then going to San Diego for a few days - with bikes. Not a biking trip - per se - but plenty of biking will be done.

This summer we'll be spending a couple of weeks on Vancouver Island & in the San Juan Islands. The first week we'll be staying in Sidney, just north of Victoria, which will be our home base for day trips around the Saanich Peninsula & the Gulf Islands. The following week we'll be staying in a house on Lopez Island in the San Juans. We'll bop around there and load our bikes on the ferry for day rides on some of the other islands, including a ride up Mt. Constitution.

When will you be there? Flying into Vancouver or Victoria?

Saltspring Island you would love. Pender Island, Galiano Island.

There are also several wineries on Vancouver Island. Saltspring has one ..with a mermaid in rubber boots as a logo. We're going to Cherrypoint, etc.

DH and I are doing a three-day ride in Canyonlands, NP along the White Rim Trail this April. That translates to about 30 miles a day on what is, mostly, a dirt road. In September, we're driving to Acadia NP with our touring bikes to ride the carriage roads in the park. I'm scared about the former and excited about the latter. I haven't ridden since November thanks to my hamstring injury so the Canyonlands trip could be, um, "interesting." The injury is healing and I need to find the motivation to get back on my bike. I've felt more like running of late instead.

    Cape Cod in Oct!

We are planning a 3 day tour of Cape Cod MA in early Oct. One of the ladies has a family friend who owns a house on Nantucket, and they will let use stay there for free. Woohoo!! So far the plan is to spend one day on Nantucket; then on the second day, down the Cape to Provincetown, and on the last day, back up the Cape to the cars.

Indy, both of those trips sound awesome, but I'm especially enthralled with the Canyonlands trip! Are you going with a group/support, or on your own?

We're using a company called Rim Tours out of Moab. TE's Divingbiking went on the same tour (although I think she went on their 4-day version) last year, which is how I got onto it myself. There are a handful of outfits who offer supported White Rim tours, and all of them are well reviewed if memory serves.

I sure hope it goes well. We're spending the rest of the week in Moab with plans to hike in Canyonlands, Arches, NP and Dead Horse Point State Park. We went to Utah last April (Zion, NP) and loved it!

Yep, they're in the planz. And Sooke. And we plan to check out some of the nifty tea shops in greater Victoria.

We were originally thinking of doing a repeat of the self-supported bike tour we did in 2005 around the Puget Sound area (Pt Townsend - Pt Angeles - Victoria - San Juan Is - Whidbey Is - PT) but the more we thought about it, the more we realized we'd just as soon load our bikes & stuff up in the car and have a couple of home bases from where we could ride out. We'd have much more flexibility that way, and be able to see & do a lot more stuff. Yeah, we're getting lazy & self-indulgent.

    Summer Dream Ride Plans

This August, I plan to do 3 days at Lake Tahoe riding, followed by the Crater Lake Century in Oregon. These have always been a couple of my dream rides to complete. Two weeks before, I think I will do the Tour de Big Bear Century as training for high altitude riding. On a side note, a few summers ago, I did my favorite dream ride so far, riding the Glenwood Springs Canyon Bike Trail, in Colorado, a truly awesome experience that I highly recommend.

We're also going to the San Juan Islands 7/27 for a week. Flying into Seattle and going directly to Friday Harbor, where we rented a cottage that is part of a B&B. We will do all of our cycling day trips from there, hoping to hit at least 2 islands, hopefully go to Victoria. We have acquaintances in Friday Harbor, an old business associAte of DH, who is retired there. Taking the Gurus, but this is not just a cycling trip, in the strict sense. We will probably ride for 3 days, maybe 4. Then we go to Seattle for 2 days, where I hope to meet some TE people.
