That's awesome, Roxy. On both counts. So out of curiosity, what did you say to the woman? It might be instructive for the rest of us in dealing with unwanted advice.

Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.

Way to go Roxy!! I always hate it when people assume I want their input/opinion. You Rock!!![]()
woot Roxy! Good for you.
Mimi, that's good news on your front too. My dad is so isolated by his own paranoid refusal to have a computer or a cell phone at the nursing facility. It's not like they're destitute or without homeowners' insurance, but he'd rather isolate himself than risk theft. So glad Don is feeling well enough to re-join the virtual world.

Well, she said, "You HAVE to change your eating habits..." and I held my hand up and said, "I need to stop you right there and let you know that I eat pretty close to a South Beach Phase II diet - clean and all that, organic veggies, lean meats, Greek yogurt, no cheese, no sugar, when I eat bread it's sprouted grain. I mean, I'm not super strict about it, but a lot of people look at me and make assumptions -- even the personal trainer here was telling me I should stop eating white potatoes and stuff, and while I do eat them on occasion, it's rare, like, two or three times a year I'll have potato salad at a picnic or something...I'm just saying, diet's not the problem."
Or something close to that. It just irked me that this woman I don't know felt it was okay to jump into a private conversation with nutrition advice because of how I look. And she had that "I know better than you" tone. I think that's what bugged me enough to interrupt her.
I get lectured a lot. Usually be well-meaning friends. This woman I don't know. She just butted into a private conversation. Ticked me off.

Alternate answers:
"That's nice. How many triathlons have you done? 0? Would "none" be close to accurate?" or .....
"Interesting. And the longest ride you've done after an hour and a half class at the gym lately you'd typically ride exactly how far?" or ....
My personal favorite "Yeah I'm sturdy. My food plan is carefully crafted for training for my 3rd degree black belt. Been eating and training that way since oh, 1980. Do the math. You don't have a problem with that, right?"
