I've been told that there is no more. I was getting generic Allegra by prescription. For a while after it went OTC I was still able to get it filled ($5 for 30 pills), but the last time I went they told me that the manufacturer was no longer shipping and that I'd have to go OTC, which costs about 5-6x as much. I guess when the generics go OTC the price will come back down, but for now I'll have to grin and bear it - or maybe order online.

*edit* ooooh - Costco has it.... that may be reason enough to keep the Costco subscription going 120 generic pills for $41 - still more expensive than my prescription was, but way cheaper than Safeway.

CVS has generic Clariton (Lortadadine) in bottles up to 120 pills, for maybe $30. Sometimes a double pack is available.

Don't know about other folks - but I do not like or tolerate Claritin well.... drys me out, gives me the jitters and doesn't touch my allergy symptoms...

Zyrtec is way cheaper everywhere - anyone have any first hand experience about how it works compared to Allegra? Zyrtec does *not* make non-drowsy claims, which is what has kept me from trying it. I just need to get rid of my runny nose, I don't want to be sedated...

For me, Zyrtec and its generics work better than Allegra. I was on Allegra for ~1 year because that's what my insurance covered. When Zyrtec went OTC, I switched back.

I can't really explain why I like it more. I guess I just feel better.

Zyrtec works very well for me--no drowsiness at all.

Zyrtec is dirt cheap. DH loves it. I do occasionally but doesn't seem to do much. It doesn't make me sleepy which is nice. I just have no desire to pay a fortune for the D part of any medication. I'd rather blow it on bike or quilting stuff. LOL.

It's the coughing that gets to me the most which is were the decongestant really helps.

Odd - Zyrtec never did a thing for me but knock me out. I had to cut them in half. Never had any problem with Clariton - real or generic.

Zyrtec knocked me on my butt, even if I took it at night I'd have a hangover the next day. Claritin and Allegra didn't work either. Then I got allergy tested -- I am not allergic to anything. I have non-allergic rhinitis -- allergies without the allergies. Swell.

Have you tried a challenge diet? Testing for food allergies is notoriously unreliable - although testing tends more toward false positives than false negatives, it surely couldn't hurt to try a challenge diet.

Zyrtec doesn't make me drowsy, but then, it doesn't look like I'm particularly susceptible to the anti-histamine drowsiness, since Benadryl doesn't really do anything in that regard either. Claratin doesn't touch my allergy symptoms, but it doesn't make me drowsy. Maybe I should try Allegra.

    Dear weather,
Please make up your mind. Rain, or don't. Seriously. And now you want thunderstorms tomorrow? I was going to ride tomorrow!

    Dear cable company,
You've had my order for two weeks. I called you to correct the payment information two days after placed the order. What the heck are you doing?

    Dear self,
Get off TE and go look up recipes and directions so you can go to the grocery store and get home before it rains.
At least I don't leave slime trails.

Dear cat who threw up in my slippers at 4:30 this morning:

If you keep that up, I'm not only throwing out all of my plants, I'm shaving all of your fur off as well.

You're awfully lucky I threw you off the bed before you threw up on ME.

    Yours truly,

    Dear jessmarimba,

I feel your pain. My cat throws up at a rate of once every couple of days. Sometimes he throws up twice a day if I'm lucky. All because he'll maul anyone who attempts to groom him. I think shaving might not be the worst idea...

    Dear friend from high school,

thank you for always being the person who offers a solid, compassionate, steadying silence when I lose my head over life. A lot of times, that's exactly what's needed. I'm thankful you're in my life and I'm thankful you are willing to be that person. Thank you.
