One of many reasons my significant other is a keeper...

Yesterday was my birthday. I was flipping through the mail, and realized one of the envelopes didn't have a stamp... DBF had mixed in a $50 gift certificate for TE! He knew I had my eye on a jersey (for the record, this one) for the better part of a year but haven't been able to bring myself to spend $75 on it.

Has your husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/fiance(e)/partner done something for you recently that made you giddy?

That's so sweet, Badgercat! Happy Birthday!

My DH cleaned my horribly filthy road bike this week. And by clean, I mean that he took the entire drivetrain apart and scrubed and soaked all of it. Then he cleaned the frame, sprayed it with Framesaver and mounted new tires. It looks all purty again.

My DH does nice things for me all of the time.
He's my personal mechanic, which I am very grateful for. I can't imagine how much $ I would have to spend for this service. Of course, his niceness extends to all other areas of my life. I wouldn't have married him, otherwise. This is why I don't like it when I hear male bashing, under the assumption that all men are horrible. You can't generalize that any more than with any other group, and I know quite a few other men like my DH.

Although this isn't bike related, my husband has stepped out of his comfort zone to support me on an issue that happened recently. I admire the depth of his commitment to me, and never have I felt so loved even though I am going through an extremely stressful time right now. He has proven his love for me, even though he was not asked to have to do that. that man loves me. Sorry to gush on so.

This is probably too wierd for some gals here..but he voluntarily offers to check with and chat up really romantic stuff.....area rugs, furniture casters, cleaners...

and we're skyping, chatting all along.

Every evening. We each run /bike home and get on..the internet, delay supper for a few hrs.

Over the years, depending where I worked, he has biked to my workplace or an agreed place halfway and waited for me in rain, slushy snow to join him with my bike after work. Other employees would comment on this to me..

    And more ...

Oh, I don't even know where to start.
when I wanted to go to Italy the first time, well, i didn't even think about it. I had no money. He got a bonus. I got to go to Italy
Every single day he does something completely awesome, like coming back into the house for a kiss before he leaves for work. Or he hides chocolate in my panniers. Or he shows up to say hi when I'm at a banquet near his office. I won't bore you guys... I really could go on and on forever.
Oh yeah, he baked a pie just for me right before he went on his 400k bike ride. (PEACH AND CHERRY)

that's how I feel about my DH- I'm one quirky, odd, flighty, gal and he's always just nodding and smiling. I'm thankful he puts up with me.

My DH made me dark chocolate w/toffee bits and bought me a couple of six packs of excellent microbrews and a bike basket (for my beach cruiser) for my birthday last week.

Definitely a keeper (and I've kept him for nearly 26 years now)!

Thanks! And he had a great ride and was really pleased with how it went. I saw in your thread that you were happy with your ride, too!

It seems many of us have chosen well. I don't know where to start. My partner has been so patient with me over the 15 years we've been together while I've been learning to ski. He was already a wonderful skier when I met him and he always says he'd rather ski with me than go off and tear down the mountain. Similarly with cycling - he says he'd rather ride with me at my pace and treats it as recovery ride.

And sometimes he gets me to stop what I'm doing because I just have to come and see the most glorious sunset. or native bird.

He does my ironing. And all the laundry. And most of the grocery shopping.

And he's always on my side.

These stories are touching. Glad we have great +1's in our lives. Mine has been soooooo supporting of the bike and when I said I wanted a road bike, I got slight look of wonder, but his next words was when do you want to go to the LBS? It's my little guilty pleasure that were working close to one another now and can meet for lunch or coffee spontaneously... Our office buildings are connected by a skywalk... Yea the expense of eating out downtown is tarnishing the sparkle and I can't continue to watch my weight and eat out!
