Maybe we can ask Susan or another TE person if we could have blogspace, or at least sanction a specific thread, just for this project?

The blog could have a map, gps locator (where participants can upload coordinates? Using a google app, perhaps?) ability to load photos, and area for participants to blog in.

I think some of these trips should be concurrent. That way, all four (or five, or eight) can be tracked at once, and people can "hop on" or off depending on whether an "it" is coming through their area.

How about "it" be a buff, or a big white bandana that people can sign?
I can do five more miles.

That's easy. Someone pick "a thing", start a thread

A link to this thread on the OP would be nice. Take a ride with IT. Offer to meet or send IT to another TE'er.

I think a buff or bandana is a wonderful idea

I'm currently working on making a "flat stanley" for my little family charity cycling team. I could make a few TE ones at the same time. Waiting on some supplies so may take a couple weeks. But I'd be happy to do that and send a few around to start on their journeys.

I'll post a pic of my family one when it is done and you can see what you all think.

Very cute idea. I'd definitely join in and could help out here in MD where I may not be needed, or in Pittsburgh where my family lives.
You too can help me fight cancer, and get a lovely cookbook for your very own! My team's cookbook is for sale Click here to order. Proceeds go to our team's fundraising for the Philly Livestrong Challenge!

    "Aye". From Northern Virginia.

We could do a laminated 'thing'. Maybe several laminated 'things'.

I spend a lot of time out on the Delaware Bay. As part of a small community effort and to get people interested in our little website, I created Flat Harry. Flat Harry is a laminated flat horseshoe crab akin to Flat Stanley. Flat Harry & his 'twins' accompany community members or their friends on their trips. At the moment he is in Bermuda, France, and somewhere else. People send me their pictures and I post them.

Maybe whatever is passed along can be passed via two TE bikers meeting on while the road or when on TE member travels to another TE member city for work/vacation travel.

Hoff, I'm in Delaware, and I think we've got at least a couple other Delawareans as well. I'm in if a DE handoff is needed!

    Shouldn't IT be Flat Harriet?

So let's get 'it' rolling ..in. Like Nike says: Just do it.

It wouldn't be a terrible thing if 'it' was a menagerie/collection of relay 'objects'. We could always track the journey(s) of it(s).

I won't be going out of town to any non-snow area for next few months.

Or maybe if we knew who would be able to pick up after Hawaii after a New Zealand TE member moves to Hawaii. Or at least it gets mailed to California, Seattle, Portland or Vancouver, where the probability of members cycling within their cities during winter is greater than Northeastern U.S./Eastern Canada.

Who will start first light the TE Olymic relay journey?

On my last ride I found a small rubber duck holding a compass wearing a little safari hat. He was sitting by a storm drain. I just had to stop and pick him up. Something small like that might be good. I have part of SD covered.

Prehaps CC can start 'it' off on it's tiki tour round Ozzie then through to Pip in Christchurch for a tour round there then up to Wellington for a tour then onto Auckland (possilbe if timing works out then it could be exchange at Lake Taupo cycle race ??) ............if it's before i move out to Honolulu then maybe I could post 'it' on to someone in States to start it's American tour ???

Seems great way to conect us all and get piccies

Once you get to Honolulu, get it to ilima, who lives in Honolulu. So when are you scheduled to move to Hawaii?

I actually did personally meet a TE member in Jan. 2009 who lives on Maui, when I was vacationing there but haven't seen her here for awhile.

How 'bout we combine some ideas:

Somebody suggested we should have several 'things', somebody suggested 'flat stanley,' and somebody suggested a bandanna.

So - how 'bout we have a flat stanley (or a stuffed doll) and several pieces of clothes for it - a bandanna that everybody would sign, a backpack etc. etc. Each continent could have 1 part of the thing and maybe the US could have 2 parts. Then all the things would meet up somewhere and be assembled?

If a bunch of people did charitable causes they could be included in the thing - a breast cancer pin, AIDS pin, maybe it could be like Linus and have a little security blanket (an AIDS blanket).

Then it could go to Susan at TE headquarters and she could be a guest on Oprah.

Wait! All the parts could meet together and be presented to Susan on Oprah! Along with some great big checks for charities. I'm sure Oprah would match . . . .
