inside my mind on a bike ride.....

....hey, that gray cat on the porch there looks like the cat my brother had-whatever became of that cat anyway?....that guy's wasting gas there idling in his driveway.....where'd that person get that great giant red bee balm??....maybe I should get rid of my hollyhocks and put in bee balm next year....gotta remember to buy honey for my tea at the farmer's market on friday....oh yeah we have to play music there this friday....If Lauren doesn't come I can bring my banjo and get some good practice in!....if i get that chandelier drawing job done tonight I can spend an hour working on a couple new songs....look at that kid riding with no helmet, does his mother know??, gonna crack his skull somewhere, should I say something to him?....whoa!-mr.subaru that was passing just a bit close, like you can't move over 6 measley inches to give me just a tiny bit of safety room?....ok gear down a bit the big hill is coming up...
eeeeww my nose is running, oh well I need to wash these gloves again anyway....uh oh what's that little clicking sound, is it coming from my bottom bracket?.....a shoelace maybe?.....don't look at that squirrel with the squished head....NO don't look!...darn I looked .......Jeez it's hot, a cool shower is waiting just what, 8 miles away....oooh I like that copper color on the Honda Fit!....what on earth is that lady thinking of wearing those white shorts, doesn't she know?....QUICK avoid that hole....I should get some new tires for my other bike....there's a mourning dove calling....God I love the sound of mourning doves....and crickets.....i remember the crickets I brought home from summer camp when I was 9 and how they sang in my room at night.....

I never get bored riding my bike.

    Smile

Nice one, yes, I can definitely relate to that.

It's odd how your brain sometimes just has a mind of it's own.............

Made me chuckle at this early time of the morning.

How did I get a tailwind up route 3?
Don't think or I'll jinx it.
    People walk in that cemetary.
Someone is crossing route 3 up ahead. Old man, black socks.
People walk on route 3? If he'd come out by the fruit stand instead of the parking area he would have a nicer walk.
    Hawk! With a rabbit!
Don't forget to tell Tom you saw a hawk with a rabbit.

I could pick up the bike path earlier.
    Glass. On the bike path.
Is Martha going to ride today?
All the people on the bus. And here I am.
After mile 12 only an hour... maybe less because I'm done with hills.

    Out here.
    Uhgh.
I did get a flat. But T was home. I could call for moral support.
I'd call Janet. She'd come get me.
Or change the flat and call work.
Or walk to like, a bus stop.
Good morning ladies on the bike path!
I like that soap factory. It smells good.

I have to say, that other than trying to not run into potholes, get chased by dogs or hit by cars, the time that I'm on my bike is for preventing brain activity!
It is the only time that my WORLD CLASS ability to WORRY ceases. And when I say Worry- a therapist once said my habit would place me with a silver medal in the worry olympics. I mean to get rid of all of that on a bike ride. I don't think about anything! If I observe something interesting, I never remember it by the time I get home. Every once in a while I run out of things to worry about, and then my brain manufactures new stuff to worry about. So, the bike ride is like Zen or meditation or something like drugs, but more healthy.

I agree with you BeccaB. I am also a world class worrier and cycling allows my brain to shut off and think of nothing else but when to shift and how hard I can push myself. Gotta love it when you can put all thoughts aside.

I always promise myself I won't look directly at road kill, and then I do anyway. What is that??? It's like some kind of mental disorder!

It's the same thing as straining to see an accident as you pass by. I think it's some sort of primal reassurance in the knowledge that that awful thing did not happen to YOU.
Sometimes when I try really hard I manage to not look at the road kill as I pass it, but it ain't easy! I do try to always hold my breath though.

Pink your thoughts were funny. This morning my mind was incredibly clear. I had an ear worm of a Waylon song, I don't know the name but it is the one that says "ain't no good in an evil hearted woman.....ain't no good chain gang". Mostly I was just testing a new cassette, thinking about how many cyclists were out, work and goats. I do love goats for some inexplicable reason. I saw a little baby that was about the size of my miniature schnauzer (the 8 pounder) and just as snowy white.
