Couple things to remember. First, men hate to get chicked. Hell, some women hate to get chicked. Next time a guy does that to you, remember that he must be overcompensating for something...
Another thing is to remember that folks could be out doing an interval workout. For example, I've done workouts such as 5X1min all-out efforts with 3 minutes rest or so. During those workouts, I'm really trying on the 1 minutes and will go easy, real easy on the rest minutes.
But I totally understand your frustration!
