Considering the location of how they're mounted... the name is probably quite intentional.
The way I understand it it's a pretty mild oath (not at all what cuss words describing the equivalent action would mean in American parlance) - but the kind of oath someone might use describe to describe the burden of pulling a heavy trailer - some of you Brits correct me if I'm wrong!
I mean, look at the logo for A-style clothing, after all. (And I can't find it on their website any more, but at one time they had a series of images making it very clear that yes, the logo DOES mean what it looks like.)
