I'm in my best shape ever at 48, if that's any help.

Before I got my first bike a few years back I was decidedly a lazy lardbutt. Now, a bit less so.

Can someone point me to a map or a routesheet that shows Mt Veeder? For the life of me I can't remember if I've ever ridden up it. ( 48 -> approaching senility )

Ed. to add: Ah, found one of SK's routes : http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...e-Atlas-Veeder. Nope, I don't think I have.

Hey, I didn't know Mt. Veeder is a wine appelation - kewl. http://wine.appellationamerica.com/w...nt-Veeder.html

I understand that it has to be more than desire, (your signature says it all). I've been merely desiring for many years now. I feel I just kind of recently am 'waking up' and my potential isn't all that impossible to achieve, which is probably merely nothing compared to your weekly rides !
What level? I'm slower than cold molasses. I just wanted you know that everyone starts somewhere and you can achieve lots. But keep your expectations realistic and set goals that are possible for you.

I know I will never weigh much less than 150 and I will never be a fast climber. But I have a high pain tolerance and lots of endurance. That makes most double centuries within my grasp. I will probably never be able to do Terrible Two - the time cutoff is too stringent.

I am also kind of reevaluating what I want this year. Training for doubles takes a lot of time. I miss riding with my husband and so I may not do any this year - certainly not any of the spring ones. Plus I need to get my knee healed.

My weekly rides - sometimes all I do is commute to work!

Keep plugging away, you'll get there.

This is SK's take on my ride. Mine goes up the back side of trinity, though.

Just map out whatever you want at www.bikely.com. The elevation data can be a bit off (usually too high) but the distance is right. Then you can design your own routes.

Do ask others about traffic conditions. Mt George can be pretty dangerous at certain times of the day -- especially once boat season starts.

I also highly recommend the Krebs map of the area.

JoBob- if you've ever done the Napa century, you've done Veeder. It's the first climb after which the route crosses over the Napa Valley to Conn Dam and then (in previous years) out to Aetna Springs.

Thanks BG! I don't think I've done the Napa century yet. So many rides, so little time.

Basically, Mt Veeder is the WestSide of NapaValley, with the two roads that lead up coming from NorthNapa, and the other from Oakville, just north of Yountville, which is North of Napa. It is both a name of the actual geological mountain, as well as the name of a road called "Mt Veeder rd".

Right, the first climb of the NapaTour. Incidentally, I use to work the rest stop at the Aetna springs, but hear they don't stop there anymore.

JayJay- The Eagles found out last fall that the Aetna Springs area is up for some kind of fansy smansy resort. I don't know what they have decided to do as an alternative.

JoBob- The Napa century is one of my favorite rides IF you do it early in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat up Ink Grade.

I did the metric last year for the first time and found that to be equally enjoyable. We had about 40 folks from our bike club show up which made for quite a site since most of us had our yellow club jerseys on.

Eh, I think you've done just about all of the metric route. Haven't you ridden Ink Grade? I know you've ridden all of the others. The best time of year is spring and fall. Colors, scents and temperature. You can get drunk on the aroma in the fall.

Lovely on Veeder today! (And Atlas Peak and the backside of Trinity and the easy side of Oakville and...the beer at the finish.)

We brought our own to the park in Yountville where our TNT honoree potluck was held after the ride. Our SAG folks bring it.

There were people from run team, Tahoe cycle team and Death ride team - it was a pretty big gathering.

Oh it was plenty cold in the morning. Wind machines and sprinkler going full force. By about 10 it was lovely.

    Hope the Cindy was fun.
