Oh my goodness ! I had no idea that you women here were at that level. I feel like such a backwoods provincial girl. Thank you for saying so, now I can gauge my conversation a little more appropriately. I strive to do a third of what you can do (100 miles of hilly ride is more than enough for me ... and 100K is more like it.

I understand that it has to be more than desire, (your signature says it all). I've been merely desiring for many years now. I feel I just kind of recently am 'waking up' and my potential isn't all that impossible to achieve, which is probably merely nothing compared to your weekly rides !

This Saturday, the team we are coaching for Team in Training for the Death Ride will be on Veeder.

Our route is the atlas Peak - Veeder - Trinity grade loop. Lots of fun. Maybe we could put a SAG stop in your driveway?

Your route (the Howell Mtn then over to Mt. George) sounds like a good one, but there can be so much traffic on Mt. George (boats) to make it less fun.

Good for you for getting back into it. It's hard work to come back, but you can do it!

I'm in my best shape ever at 48, if that's any help.

Before I got my first bike a few years back I was decidedly a lazy lardbutt. Now, a bit less so.

Can someone point me to a map or a routesheet that shows Mt Veeder? For the life of me I can't remember if I've ever ridden up it. ( 48 -> approaching senility )

Ed. to add: Ah, found one of SK's routes : http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...e-Atlas-Veeder. Nope, I don't think I have.

Hey, I didn't know Mt. Veeder is a wine appelation - kewl. http://wine.appellationamerica.com/w...nt-Veeder.html

This is SK's take on my ride. Mine goes up the back side of trinity, though.

Basically, Mt Veeder is the WestSide of NapaValley, with the two roads that lead up coming from NorthNapa, and the other from Oakville, just north of Yountville, which is North of Napa. It is both a name of the actual geological mountain, as well as the name of a road called "Mt Veeder rd".

Lovely on Veeder today! (And Atlas Peak and the backside of Trinity and the easy side of Oakville and...the beer at the finish.)

We brought our own to the park in Yountville where our TNT honoree potluck was held after the ride. Our SAG folks bring it.

There were people from run team, Tahoe cycle team and Death ride team - it was a pretty big gathering.

What level? I'm slower than cold molasses. I just wanted you know that everyone starts somewhere and you can achieve lots. But keep your expectations realistic and set goals that are possible for you.

I know I will never weigh much less than 150 and I will never be a fast climber. But I have a high pain tolerance and lots of endurance. That makes most double centuries within my grasp. I will probably never be able to do Terrible Two - the time cutoff is too stringent.

I am also kind of reevaluating what I want this year. Training for doubles takes a lot of time. I miss riding with my husband and so I may not do any this year - certainly not any of the spring ones. Plus I need to get my knee healed.

My weekly rides - sometimes all I do is commute to work!

Keep plugging away, you'll get there.
