That's what I was thinking, but then the full distance (2,450 miles) was a bit daunting to me. Although a TE Tour de 66 would probably be awesome. Then we could all travel from cafe to cafe while avoiding chafing and write a brilliant book about it to re-coup the money it took to do the ride in the first place.

I think I've finally stir crazy, the snow's got to melt soon, right? Right?

I think Rt. 66 runs through my family's teeny tiny town in New Mexcio. My Grandfather used to run a Phillips 66 gas station and hotel there.

Sounds good! There's your book; group of strangers organize a 2,500 bike tour to re-discover your Grandpa's gas station.

I've only seen a bit of Route 66 in New Mexico and it is beautiful.

Wouldn't have to do the whole thing, or in parts.

Do you ever ride it? What's it like? How far have you been?

Carpe on the route. Sieze the ride.

Carp on the route. Don't run over the huge fish on the bike path.

Sorry - I'll go have some tea and breakfast and wake up now!

I've ridden maybe 50 miles of it on a bicycle and 300 or so on the motorcycle. There are places where it's idylic and places where you sit at a 4-way intersection and look at a WalMart/KFC/Gas Station/McDonalds. I guess living near it has demystified it a bit for me.
