It felt like an Indian Summer day. It was nearly 80F! I did an urban exploration bike ride. I'm looking to buy my own place and so I've been lurking around neighborhoods to see where I would like to live. It was great fun, and quite useful. There are some condos that I was interested in--a renovation of a historic building. After riding to it and around it, I decided no way--the condos all have old window a/c units. If the developer skimped on upgrading the HVAC system, what else did he cut corners on?? Since it's a condo, it's not something I could upgrade for my own unit. I wouldn't have seen that if I had just driven by in my car. Great neighborhood, though.

Oh, and the local university decided to test out their new VERY LOUD siren alert system right when I was in the midst of the university. It went on for about 10 minutes. My ears are still ringing.

I guess I did about 10 miles, but I don't have a computer on my urban bike.

I was just getting into riding when I was house-shopping in Richmond. It is a good way to browse the market! IT's also where I realzied that the dogs of Richmond - at least where I cruised - were of a different culture than most of the planet. I remember this big one sitting in the middle of the street who just sat there as I rode by. Flashbacks to summers of youth

Tulip, if it's historic housing then there may be laws against certain upgrades? Historic preservation laws can be unpredicatble.

There are plenty of historic renovations going on in Richmond, and there are plenty with modern HVAC. Historic preservation requirements typically are concerned with the exterior appearance and materials; thus, eliminating the window units would be a plus.

I'm going to see the place anyways, and will ask what's up with the window units. Not only do window units block light, are noisy, moldy, and look ugly, they are a whole lot less efficient than modern HVAC systems.

October 6th was Waitangi Day - a public holiday here in Aotearoa.
Wish all my work-weeks were like this week... start work on Monday for the year, go back Tuesday, day off Wednesday, back for Thurs and Fri and then the weekend! Woohoo!

So I got in a solid 37km workout over rolling hills. Beautiful day, quiet roads, and got to know a couple of new albums we have just bought and i ripped onto my MP3.
My legs were tired on Thursday!
