I've never known any of them to post here or rarely but have met all three and they are great guys.

But then this is California so we're a little odd and let the men-folk keep their own names as opposed to just being nameless faceless DH, DBF etc.
Yep - they and their spouses are some of my favorite riding buddies. I just could never think of Thom as my DH. Anonymity on the web is an illusion. Heck I use my real name. Our website has our real names on it.

Thom has posted a few times when I've been doing a big ride to keep folks who care informed. He always does it under my name, but signs it Thom.

As long as they don't leave the seat up I'm pretty much ok.

As soon as we start excluding a class of people here the next group up would probably be me so.....

I can personally attest for may of the Bay Area gals because we get out and ride together. Yep, they are women
Whoa...didn't mean to revisit or start an awful thread or discussion about excluding guys. I was just curious, but probably should have thought twice about throwing this one out there.

Hmmm...as the primary 'target' of the awful thread, I didn't think it was so awful. It was an important discussion that was remarkably civil in its debate.

Personally, I respect the special place you've created. As a result:
    • on the rare occassion that I communicate by PM, I copy Silver...don't want anyone to miscontrue my intent
    • I stay out of topics that I don't belong in...don't even open them...
    • I make sure everyone knows by my tag lines that I'm married to the lovely Silver
    • I don't lurk...I'm right up front with who I am...

For me, I continue to feel honored as a token estrogen laden male.

Hear, hear! Silver is so beautiful, she has to be confident enough to not mind letting us see you all kilted up!

No, you wouldn't think that. Actually it was pretty G** awful and some have never been back. I'll just speak for myself there was grieving for the character of this place. We'd come to see as a womens community/space or for some to think that alone is what makes this board so great.

We've tried to figure out "why is this board unlike other boards" and thought it comes down to that. I think it's part of it, but not all.

Some of us who'd been here a while feared for its demise or be just like any other board.

Look, still here, still the best dang place in cyberspace

But perhaps we were being naive. I miss being naive. I miss leaving doors unlocked and answering the phone without caller id too.

It's the world wide web not the womens wide web. You can't put a sign that says "women only" and expect most men not to peek in I don't think I want this board to be like "some other womens boards" ahem where there's an approval process, that smacks of cliques, discrimination and eliteism.

I don't think we gave TE enough credit. Maybe it's more than "just" a womens board but a community where the primary rule is "civil conversation and discussion" and not "women and Mr. Silver only".

I know my husband found TE before I did; he ordered rain pants for me from TE and the account was in his name for 3 years. I only found the board part of TE when I was home on vacation and bored one day during the dead of winter. I have done rides with several of the TE people who live in MA and not an axe murderer among them! Some of my friends think it's a little weird that I would meet up and ride with "strangers," but now they sort of see that it's really OK.
I think Mr. Maislin sees the board as my "place," though. When I was looking for a new bike rack earlier in the summer and he was searching, my post about how I trashed my old rack came up! It was funny and he actually checked out all of the recommendations that people made. But, he didn't continue looking through the posts, even though I think if you met him, you would agree that he is somewhat similiar to Mr. Silver and Mr. Kilt.
You can usually tell the "creepy" guys who post here and yes, they usually do not stick around.

None taken. For one thing, I'm married into a Korean family Koreans refer to people by their relationship to others. I'm generally "your husband" when Soo's parents are talking to her. At first, I thought it was just because my first name (Sean) can't be written in Han Gul and it's a hard name for Koreans to pronounce.

Secondly, if a man has to be known for something, why not be known for being married to his wife?

I've been aware of TE for quite some time. When Soo became a regular, I thought it was cool, but I always thought of it as "her" place. Had she not "invited" me in, I wouldn't have joined. The discussion actually came up because there are a few women that post on a kilt forum I belong to.

But back to the original post. If you see a guy in the bothell area wearing a kilt or riding a red Co-Motion, it's probably me.

I'd be into a medium-length ride. We've done the chicken park to woodinville. If I can get my hands on my friend's Xtracycle, we could go a little longer.

Welcome boy in a kilt ! I've just read some of your recent posts today and find that yours, Mr. Silver, and some other men on the board offer a refreshing perspective. And always respectful. As long as respect is maintained by male posters, I am fine with that. Yes I also remember Roadfix as well, he answered a question of mine once. Sometimes when there are "anonymous" posters I think I can tell that they are men. The anonymous ones seem to post infrequently, but I say I think I can tell sometimes because these posters "speak" differently.
