Today was a little chillier and windier in central/eastern VA, but I still feel guilty about how much warmer it's been here than where so many of you are with rain and ice. Very little sun, though. We did 51 hilly miles northwest of Richmond (Rockville to Montpelier and back, for those of you who know the area). It was a tough day but to "recover" on the way home, we stopped by a bike friend's NY Eve open house and pigged out on end-of-year goodies. Looks like tomorrow's annual New Year's Day ride will be rained out, though. Maybe it'll give me time to figure out how many miles I actually rode this year!

P.S. I second Lifesgreat's endorsement of the Buff. I have mild asthma and have found that if I pull a Buff up over my mouth and nose to warm the air I take in, I don't have as much problem breathing. Keeps me warm but I can still breathe OK through the fabric.

Thumbs up First ride on new bike!

DH and I took my new Cannondale Synapse out for a spin today. We had set out to do about 50, but that didn't work out. It was 55 degrees, but there was a 16 mph WNW headwind. Sometimes the wind would gust to 30 mph, it wasn't fun. We decided to do a route that was shorter and more manageable in the wind. I haven't been out on the road much lately and I could tell. My poor knees were swelling from the cold air and lack of exercise lately.

The new bike rides like a dream. The Shimano 105 is so much smoother than the Shimano Sora I had been riding. I can only imagine what my DH's Dura Ace is like. The carbon bike made the road much friendly. I also realized the saddle we put on there was the perfect fit. Today's ride was 30.80 miles.

Overall 2006 was a milestone year for me:
    Total miles: 2,554.67
    Average Speed: 16.55

*Note: My original goal was 3,000, but I spent much of the late summer/fall worrying about my DH's health. I am pleased to have hit 2,500.

I did about 60 miles today I was in the 50's and sunny. Tried to take it easy as I'm doing a metric to the rose bowl Parade tomorrow, and I expect it's going to be pedal to metal from the get -go. I went down To Baldwin Park and back up.
Mileage for the Year 6,701 Almost went out did another 12 so i could pass bike Goddess for #5 on the TE Bike Journal list. Still not bad, considering I sat out 2 months with a broken shoulder.

I did it! Went for my last outdoor ride for 2006. Haven't been on the bike outside since Nov. 9th so made myself go today and wouldn't you know it, it turned out to be my 100th ride on bikejournal - I hadn't even noticed!

We did 10.5 km, it was about 27 degrees F, and the roads were more or less dry but the bike lane was snow and ice so it was a bit scary. Took the mtbike to be on the safe side.

My goal for 2006 was originally 500km.

I did 2775 km in total (on 3 bikes, my old bike, my mtbike, and my road bike)
    100 rides.
Avg speed 21.8 kmh overall (early avg was 16-20, later avg was 24-27)
    Max speed 63 kmh
    Total hours 132:38

I am happy with my accomplishments this year!

I did two rides today so that I could make my milage goal....I did one this morning, it was about 20 degrees, tried out my new booties and my headgator and well I wore regular winter gloves not cycle gloves but I was to do 18 miles without freezing. then I went out with the group in the afternoon when it was a little warmer high 30's I think and I did another 27 miles. In my 1st full year of cycling I have done 3503 miles. I am happy

Mountain biked - nothing like a 1,000 foot gain in less than three miles to get your heart rate up.

Chilly (8C/45F)and overcast again, but no rain (to start). Managed 28km and BONK...just ran out of legs halfway through my ride and 28km from home. I thought I had everything right...bike, food, clothing, but I guess itwas just one of those days. Slogged the last 28km into a cold headwind with spitting rain, but managed a total of 56km for the last ride of the year.

Wishing you all the best for 2007,

Yesterday I realized that I needed only 60 more miles to have 4000 for the year, so today I rode 62.75 miles. Mid-fifties, some clouds, some sun. From home, up the easy side of Pig Farm, around the Bears, then up the hard side of Pig Farm and back home.

Logged 40 miles, starting just before sunrise. It was cloudy and relatively mild (40 degrees or so). No fog, unlike Saturday's pea soup.

Last month I sold my old/new mountain bike to this young lady. She called and asked that I take her on a ride as she is a newbie. We did one of my favorites - something easy and frankly since I'm so out of shape right now, something I could do. Sadly she had no problems with the ride and had to wait for me to catch up (she is 25 years younger than me and has been healthy). I finally felt alittle better as on the last hill, which was longer than the rest, I smoked her. Thankfully experience won out over youth for once.

The weather in So Cal has been so dreamy lately - sunny - cool (about 55 - 60 degrees) and perfect for mountain biking! Can't wait to get out and do a ride today!

Went out in 12°C sunny afternoon weather until past sunset, on the shady side of our favorite hill it got rather cold. I got competitive on the last hill of the year.

In the cold weather, I did not feel thirsty, must have had no more than 2-3 sips in 2 hours. bad. I drank 2 liters, waking up a couple times after I crashed into bed at 9 pm on new years eve.

Today I signed up for my first triathlon

Last ride of the year! SO and I went out from our house for 25 hilly miles (there is no such thing as flat miles in these parts). Cloudy, humid & 47 degrees. I logged a total of 2220 miles this year. Not great, but better than I thought I would finish with.
