    Dec 31st rides...

I forgot i'm in a diff time zone...

Decided it was time to get back into the swing of things(6 days of no riding... ) and do some k's.

Went off & away on a 40km ride but soon realized it was heating up very quickly. Good thing I remembered sunscreen. My eyes were starting to hurt (even with sunnies on) and my left foot was bugging me but i kept mozying. I made sure i kept hydrated.

Nice day for a ride however I noticed there are no trees along the bike path...making it freakin hot & the only shade are the cycle underpasses...So I'm def going to ensure i head out earlier next time...nothing like biking in 34c, not a cloud in the sky & a smidgen breeze to cool me down..all at 10am..

speaking of riding in the summer ... does anyone have a remedy for panda eyes? i have massive white (normal colour of my pale skin) "eyes" (from wearing sunnies) and the rest of my face has actually got some semblance of a brown (ok, more yellow-ish - i really dont tan ) hue.

it's starting to become kinda noticeable any suggestions other than foundation? i rarely wear makeup but am thinking i might... cos i look like a dork

38 degrees F, a tiny wind, sunshine, dh and others made for a nice end of year 16 mile ride. I got a Buff (Terry "ride like a girl") for Christmas and I can tell you they are worth the $. I used it as a neck gaiter/face cover. Dh used his flame covered one as a beanie under his helmet. I haven't been out on my bike since it was warm, so it felt great to be out, even if it was amongst traffic.

    Happy New Year!

40 degrees and light winds. Did 20 miles solo. I've put more than 900 miles on the new bike since September 3. Unfortunately, 1000 miles before year-end was not possible (maybe if I hadn't started taking time away from riding to start running...)
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

DH and I rode 21 miles, 33degreesF, nice and sunny with little wind...good biking weather!!
Had plenty of warm layerts on and was fine.
My back wheel broke a spoke though, so now I'll have to take it in for repairs again. The LBS guy had removed that wheel and true-d it a few weeks ago, will have to be done again and spoke replaced.
Naturally these things ALWAYS happen in the middle of holiday weekends....
No snow yet here at all- just occasional flakes in the air but nothing on the ground. Looks like we'll be doing at least a little more biking right into January...how weird is THAT?

Great last club ride of the year. Cold for us, about 40 at the ride start, but sunny and no wind so it felt great. I love when there is that crispness in the air but sun shining. Really pretty out here in the texas hill country. Still loving my new travel bike. Thinking more about why my heavier steel bike has more 'snap' than my lighter ti one, I am starting to supect that the bottom bracket needs service. Lisa, if you really wanna ride before your wheel is fixed, borrow the wheel from your husband's bike, although obviously you won't be able to ride together. Someday you may wanna get an extra wheelset (try ebay). I have several, both racing and touring, makes it convenient to customize the wheel/tire for the task at hand without having to change tires all the time. Also helps when a wheel needs service. Have a great New Years Eve everyone! At least we earned our treats. Can't drink too much cuz we have our all city New Years Ride tomorrow that our club sponsors annually at 10am.........

My ride today was a hike... went with friends on the trails we did our mtb ride on last Wednesday. It was still mostly snow covered and a bit icy. Not enough snow for snow shoes, though. A guy passed us on a mtb, on a big climb, but I saw him dismount and walk up most of it (had me worried that someone could climb up that in ice and snow). It was gorgeous out, sunny, about 35. We did about 5 miles.
It's supposed to rain tomorrow and be in the high forties all week. I see a road ride definitely on Thursday after work.
    Happy New Year!

Got out for 16.5 miles today, solo, for 15.4 mph average (16.7 if I "ignore" the warm up and cool down through the neighborhood - so, I think I will!). Gives me a grand total of 2,210 miles for 2006 - a personal best! I just did my simple "Out to (Route) 108 and back" route - mainly flat, but a slight rise on the way out, so it is slightly downhill the way home. Alas, when I turned around, BAM! Headwind. Yuck. Sort of negated the bene of the slight downhill. So much for flying home.
Oh, a woman in a car pulled up along side me to tell me she was lost and to ask for directions. And she asked just as I was about to start climing the only small hill on the route! "Uhhhh...Can't you see I'm a bit busy right now?" I wanted to say. But I didn't. With a grunt and a thumb jerk over my shoulder, I indicated that where she wanted to go was in the other direction. Sigh.
Neck/back/shoulder is talking to me. It's saying "Not enough traction!" Got to do that before we head out to a friend's New Year's Open House - Raspberry Cream Cheese Brownies chillin' in the fridge as I write this.

Rain, Rain Go Away! I had hoped to get in one last ride today given it was 65F outside albeit under very gray clouds. However, the rain quickly moved in and I gave up on the idea of an outdoor ride and instead put my bike back on the trainer and cranked out 15.55 miles. I watched the Detroit Lions actually win a game, read the first couple of chapters in my new Rita Mae Brown book, The Hounds and The Fury and watched a program on the Indianapolis Childrens Chorus on KET. I needed only .30 miles to break 5,900 miles for the year and so I pedaled and pedaled and pedaled. I ended the year with 5,915.25 miles and I'm quite proud for I had decided to shoot for 5,000 miles a year ago.

Yeah Suzie, that's what happened to me the other day- I seemed to hit my limit for hours spent in the cold- and I lost steam just trying to keep from freezing.
Today was different- nicer. We all have our cold limits! But good for YOU, out there in such conditions!!

About 50 out and cloudy. Lee and I went for our usual lunch ride, along the Alameda Creek Trail and up Mission Blvd. to Mission Coffee in Fremont. We had the roasted garlic tomato soup and split a turkey pannini. Good stuff. Then back home. About 25 miles RT.

    It was a good year.

this morning we got up and rode 5 miles in the blistering cold at 730am here in seaside oregon. despite the fact that i was double layered and wore a balaclava, i was still cold. my hands got sore cold wearing heavy double gloves.

at 930 we went back out with the bike club and rode from Seaside to Cannon beach and back, with a killer hill in between the two beach towns. iT was enough warmer that i did fine. I rode with the bike club and discovered that i am the slowest on the flats, nearly the slowest on descents, but i hold my own on the up hills.

I rode 27 miles total, and am reALLY glad we are done riding now. when i get home tomorrow i will share lots of nice photos this is a beautiful place.
