    No.

I was having an A-#1 rotten morning. Then I went for a bike ride. 30 miles only, but it was crisp and cool and very little traffic on the trail. There were moments when Flossie and I just seemed to click. So lovely. I found I could "play piano" while riding, and that I could let go with one hand. Didn't feel tippy or squirrelly.

Guess I needed to get stronger more than I need a new stem. So I didn't get a new stem. (wasn't sure the used one would fit, and the guy selling it was asking the same price as for a new one at LBS #1)

Recycled Cycles fixed a sqeaky brake pad, just cuz they love me, and chatted with me about goodies for Flossie. She will be getting new tires soon (Vittoria Randoneurs 700 x 28 with reflective sidewalls). After that will be new softer brake pads. I bought her a cute little light, very similar to a Knog Frog, to put on the bars. It's pretty bright.

Flossie had a little fan club everywhere we went. That was fun.

Now to shower and eat, then to help HipGnosis6 get her bike to Recycled Cycles.

KN--looking forward to pix of Flossie when she's all tricked out in fine fashion!

Kitsune--wool, Merino wool, at least, turns out to be wonderfully comfortable. My grandmother was a seamstress when she wasn't teaching 8th grade, and I have horrible memories of beautiful clothing she made that I could not stand to wear. Even lined, the wool itched unbearably. But I've come to love my SmartWool socks and Icebreaker sweater. Both feel snuggly warm but not hot or itchy. I'm asking for more of the same for Christmas!

In fact, if anybody hears of any deals on Merino wool clothes, please mention it here. I keep watching Steep & Cheap.
    .......................
PS--I managed to spend no money at the Expo. I was sorely tempted, but that vision of the bottom line of my debt kept floating up between me and the 40% off jacket, etc. Also, the 40% off jacket = 20% of the price of a CycleOps trainer. Keeps me on track. Feels good to have a modicum of discipline, y'know?

It's probably better for you and your finances to keep on believing that...

Fine merino wool is nor itchy nor heavy, when it's properly done at least (which is the case for Ibex, Smartwool, IceBreakers, etc.). Dries quickly, wicks nicely, can be light or heavy depending on what you're after.

But keep on believing it's itchy...

Kit- Merino is wonderful wool and not itchy. I knit with it all the time. Most wool these days are not itchy, like when we were kids-wait-when I was a kid. My boys fave nevern known the pain of scratchy scarves.

KN- I am sorry to hear you had a bad morning, but pleased to know going out for a ride on Flossie made things better.

Lise- Did you have your phone date yet? How was it? What time are you meeting Mr. Faraway?

Ditto to Lise's request for merino clothing sales. I find mysels constantly watching Steep and Cheap.

I'll tell you where it's itchy--in the wallet. Whoo! Good stuff costs money! Who knew? I'm just so enchanted with my 70% off Icebreaker sweater and my 60% off SmartWool running socks (wearing those tomorrow, in the race).

TWO phone dates--one with the Southern Guy from last night, and one with the Professor this afternoon. Both really nice conversations. The Professor is the 62 year old. He ran a 5K for Breast Cancer this morning. He was embarrassed about his pace until I told him that was *my* pace, too. Date w/Mr. FarAway is at 7PM. I'm leaving the house at 6:15, meeting him at a restaurant 1/2 way between us. See what I mean about "far away"? All three of these men are widowers.

Having opened my mind to somewhat older men, I'm seeing some really cool profiles, and have really enjoyed talking with these three guys. Who knows what will happen, but thanks for all the encouragement. I made my profile very clear about:
    1. I like to run/bike/do triathlons. I want to share that with a partner.
    2. I don't drink. Really.
    3. I don't want to date anyone who doesn't have some sort of spiritual way of life.
    4. No smokers.
Some guys still don't seem to read beyond the picture, but I seem to be attracting more of what I want. We shall see. How'm I s'posed to go to dinner when I feel so danged nervous?

Running clothes all laid out. I'm going to wear the shirt I had made for the marathon last year, with my dad's picture on it. I had the idea while running last year's 1/2 marathon, two weeks before the big run.

Lise- The shirt is wonderful! I am pleased both phone dates went so well and I cannot wait to hear about your date with Mr. Faraway. I am living vicariously through you, I have not been on a date since May of 1991. I would not even know what to do or say or wear.

You and I appear to have the same taste in men, at least the 4 qualities you listed.

    Have a great time tonight!!!

I was sitting here being kinda depressed because it's getting too dark to go for another ride (and I want to RIDE) when my dear triathlon-friend called and asked me if I want to go out for dinner!

    YES!!!!

My neighbor's mom and sister moved her stuff out of the apartment today. I asked them to tell her we were thinking of her. Then I started crying. Bleh.

Wow, Lise. What a great shirt!! Good luck on the 1/2!!!

Thanks for the good wishes you guys. The 20-ish miler (it's not like I have a sneaker computer) was PAINFUL. Hmm. Maybe I should try running during the week instead of just the long runs? Anyway, It was okay and I know I'll get through the marathon. It'll just hurt.

Can I vent here, just a little?

I'm really starting to hate my job. If things were set up in such a way that I could actually *do* my job, it'd probably be okay... but something happened tonight that's driving me straight up a wall. I can't go into specifics, but the police dept for the town I'm in called and needed to speak urgently to one of our employees regarding her son. It was an emergency. For the next 20minutes, I'm trying every extension I have, trying managers on their radios, everything and I can't reach anyone who can find this employee. I finally caved when the officer started to lose her patience with me, and called one of our Emergency Response Techs to just run out onto the floor to see if they can find this poor woman. I mean, it's her son here... so 15 minutes after that the woman finally gets here, and I can finally call the PD for her and have them tell her that her son's okay, etc... but that's half an hour delay just trying to find someone. I should be able to grab anyone right off the floor- if theoretically, our directy was accurate, and people answered their radios, etc etc. GRRRRRRRR

    ...thinking positive job thoughts.

    RABBIT RABBIT!!

    Happy Oct 1, everyone!

Finally read my email (didn't for a week, I forget I have email acct). Discovered I missed the LAST Team Survivor bike ride/end of the year get-together at Hales Ales (brew pub). DANG! At least they emailed the end-of-year survey. I'm gonna volunteer for the bike program next year. Especially the jersey committee, already told them I was gonna work on that. Anyone got any good sites for me to look at to learn about custom jerseys? (hint, hint, Amici Veloci?) Or a favorite jersey company?

Too much to do today. Dunno how I'll get a ride in. And my Ibex knickers are dirty dirty dirty from y'day. And my skort is dirty dirty dirty from Wednesday. Gee, I should start doing laundry. Might have to wear my Emergency Back-Up saggy-baggy bike shorts. My lycra droopy-drawers catch on the nose of my saddle, but I MUST! RIDE! BIKE!

If Flossie's calling to you that much, I'd definitely suggest the saggy baggies. What are function or fit when we're talking true love here?

    Need to Vent

This is a short Vent, I just need to say it to someone so I can rid myself of bad energy and focus on making today a fun birthday for my oldest son.

My mother is a *itch! Always has been, always will be. She is blaming me for having a stroke! She actually *believes* I somehow managed to have a stroke, on purpose, for sympathy!! AUGH! This is the woman who wonders why I never visit her. Go figure. She is abusive, not so much physically anymore, just mentally, and completely narcissistic. Gee, why on earth would I want to keep myself and my children away from her? It really sucks not having a the support of a parent. Parents are supposed to love their children unconditionally, apparently she never received that memo. Why, after 37 years, do I keep getting surprised by her behaviour?
Whew, I feel somewhat better venting. Thanks to anyone who read this.

BMo3 - that so totally sucks. I mean really really sucks!

Dump that bad energy here on TD, it will evaporate away, and have a lovely time with your son's birthday!

(and hey, can you teach me that trick of doing medical things to yourself on purpose? Cuz "the girls" are starting to sag a bit, and I'd like to get a little lift into them by sheer willpower.)
