Well its not just mtn biker, road biker...

I do not race at the moment. Do not have a license. But its not even that at all. If you want to compare milage compare yourself to those in similar situation to yours. To compare to something you are not is.., well not very good. Like apples and oranges.

Yes racer type rodies log a lot of mile no doubt about it. To be competive, we used to say ride minimum of 200-250 miles a week. But many here are not. Many are just out for the exercise, the love of riding and the sense of freedom bike offers. Some of us are commuters. Some racers do not commute on a bicycle at all.

THEN!!! look at someon like Fredwina and he Randonrunner (sp) people. Racers are totally outclassed for distance and endurance by people like Fredwina. Comparing Fredwina to me is like the hare and the tortise. Sure on a short stretch I might out ride her but she'll be pedalling along when I'm exhausted and slumped over on a bush hours earlier.

Veronica compared me to her because we were up to similar sort of thing. roadie and climbing. Otherwise no comparison. Far as my 150 miles are concerned, that is just my goal. I find it very interesting that Brandy is riding over 500 miles this month. She lives not too far from me yet I harbor no sense of inferiority just because she is riding four times as much. Its great that she can ride 500 miles, do the agony ride, and climb nearly 4000 feet in 30 some odd miles. It isn't for me though. Her posting is an incentive for me. Just as Veronica's and Fredwina's post. I'm inspired by their feat.

I think we need to see the personal achivements and goals of others as an incentive and inspiration for what we want to do. It isn't about competing to see who is riding faster, climbing more, or riding farther, or riding in heat or cold. Besides after years of competition, you WILL always find someone faster than you, can rider farther than you...

Sincerely,
