I live north of Rivendell and east of Mt Doom... but most of the year the region I live in (Hawkes Bay) does resemble the Shire

RoadRaven, you live in a beautiful place! It's one of the places my DH wants to visit badly! Someday we will take a vacation to middle earth and we'll have to bring our bikes!

ehirsche... thats miles per week I assume? Whoa... way to set a goal! My partner does 400-600 kilometre weeks depending on the time of year... pretty similar to your goal... I know how much riding and committment that takes. Well done you

When that day comes RoadRaven, I will definitely post a "Yahoo and Yippee" in this forum! First Joe and I have to get the kids through college! Two friends of ours took their vacation last year to NZ and they had a fantastic time! The pictures the tales the rides they said it was like being in "Middle Earth" it's so beautiful down there. Joe and I were drowling with envy! I told them that someday that would be my dream vacation too!

And Happy New Year everyone! It begins! Our new year with our new goals!

I started off January well with a 59.7 mile ride up over Morgan Territory to Mount Diablo. All the gory details are in a write up on our website.

    It was cold and windy.

We are a week into January now and I have 106 of my 370 miles so far. The weather forecast shows rain again tomorrow, but hopefully I'll be able to ride outside the rest of the week. Right now the weekend looks good and a tad warmer.

    I think I'll make it...

Right now I'm at 232 miles - 236 when I get home. I was pleasantly surprised to realize how much climbing I've done though - more than 15,000 feet so far.

The weather for the 200K on Saturday is looking dicey. I was so hoping for a nice, sunny day!

My goal for January was 500 miles (trainer + road). As of today I'm at 451 miles so I think I'm in good shape. I've logged 372 miles on the trainer and 79 on the road.

Hopefully I'll make 500 miles for the month. I've become so burnt out on riding in the cold that I've been riding the trainer more- where I get burnt out on being bored. I've had to come up with ways of making it interesting like doing a Spinervals video or like my workout yesterday: 1.5 back-to-back episodes of CSI where I pedaled high cadence during the show and low during the commercials mostly in HR Zones 3 and 4 (with some brief breaks in 2).

I've made it to 342 miles so far. If the weather turns a bit, 500 should be doable.

hee maybe I'll hit 150 mile on the road with 10,000 feet of climb. Just the road.

I have no idea about the trainer, well its more like GORK (God Only Really Knows). Only thing I know is I hink I will reach 15 hours or so on the trainer.

Well this is my goal. And I have few days to go so just maybe...

A cold and bronchitis have left me far from my goals! I have 59 indoor miles for the month, but at least this last round of antibiotics has really kicked in and I might even be able to venture outside! Now can I fit it all in before the end of January

I think I can beat that. I'm hoping to ride the trainer twice a week. One 30 km ride and one ride that may be less.

    So realistically, my goal:

January 2008 - 175 km on the trainer

Hmmm, don't think I'll make it. I'm just over 100km right now. I'll be lucky if I get to 125.

So far, I have about 350 miles in the great outdoors and about 8 hours on the trainer.

I don't have my trainer set up to calculate relative distance, but I'm not concerned about it.
