Four more days of work and I'm free until January! Woot! Isn't it sad that I look forward to neck surgery simply because of the time off?

The Nike marathon is in a little over a week - I am ready! Now to decide....baselayer or no. Maybe armwarmers? Would that scream DORK?

I have the official name of my surgery. Anterior Cervical Decompression and Fusion.

I think I would relish the time off work too, even though I was injured/recovering. It would be hard not to participate in sports though - how long after surgery before you will be able to get "out there" again?

Armwarmers never scream "dork". My fave cycling clothing.

From the Nke Marathon web site: "Coat Check and Coat Donation at mile 2.5. If you would like to check an item to pick up at the Finish Village, you must stop, write your bib number on a coat check bag and hand it to one of our volunteers in the Coat Check bus. Donation bins will also be available." I don't know if that will help with the base layer question or not but it is a pretty cool service.

I had surgery on my foot last year in December and was thrilled to be able to take time off of work, I milked it for all I could.

RR - so far everything I've read about the surgery, they have me up and walking the day after. Not sure when I'll be back on my bike, but not until my doctor says it's OK.

Given how nippy it's been lately, I would go with a baselayer if I were walking a 1/2 marathon. But that's me. I'm a bit of a cold wimp these days.

Looking forward to surgery for time off, hmm... it that familiar! I remember once after a vacation about 8 years ago, returning to work and thinking about having another baby. For some reason, I really wanted another kid right then. So I stepped back and analyzed what was behind that, and I realized I just really wanted more time off work. I changed employers shortly thereafter.

Here's hoping the surgery goes well and the time off work is restful. I will try to see you next week!

I think that's what a friend had, Snap. He was held off biking for 8-12 weeks, unless he could absolutely guarantee the doc he wouldn't fall. how about a trainer?!

Good luck with the marathon! Very exciting way to kick off the "vacation". will be thinking of you through surgery!

Good luck with the marathon next weekend, and with the surgery, too!
When I did Nike 3 years ago (sheesh- it's been that long?) I wore a lightweight long sleeve shirt under my TNT shirt. I kept it on the whole day. Even tho I was walking briskly for 7 hours, I never got too hot, and the weather stayed cool, especially near the ocean. Bring something you don't care too much about (a thrift store l/s wicking shirt if you can find one) and ditch it if you don't need it.
Enjoy the race!!!! There was a sock station in the park the year I went (around mile 10 I think) and you could change your socks for new ones from Nike. I didn't realize that's what it was at the time, but I wish I'd taken them up on it. Fresh socks during a race is always a good thing.


And ummm... I'm with you on missing work. I get to have carpal tunnel surgery at the end of the month- and I'm excited about the 2 days I'll get to be off. Woo hoo!!!

Ah yes, surgery. Brings back many fond memories...the visits from friends...the time off from work...the drugs...

Snap-here is wishing you well for your surgery and afterward. Also may you do well on your marathon. You have made me think a bit about just walking some of these 5K's and other "running" races that are around here locally. Running and I do not get along, but walking is doable. It would be fun to walk one of these races.

Enjoy the time off, read some good books and enjoy visits from friends and others.

Yes, I remember this well from fracturing my pelvis in a cycling accident in 2005 (and having surgery to put it back together again). It was not something I'd ever want to repeat, but there were the perks!

Good luck on your surgical procedure. Take it easy afterwards, even if you feel well. Takes time for a body to heal.

Gawd, I remember when I had my kid (now 15). I didn't want to leave the hospital. It was so clean!!! No dog hair!!!
