    Oct 6th Rides

    URGH..I just spent 1/2hr on the trainer with the resistance on. Umm..it wasn't easy. Please tell me using the trainer gets easier & it really does help me in the last bit of my knee recovery phase...

    Until now, i've not used the resistance bit as i just wanted to get used to time on the bike. Tonight Ian suggested using it and thought hmmm why not, let's see what I can do. Now i'm a bit confused..

    I'll try it again tomorrow night It's hard but then again knee injuries are hard work

    OCT. 6th??? PLEASE don't bring me back to the beginning of winter again. I'm so sick of it already.
    Hee hee- I saw that and thought: have I been Rip Van Winkle'ing it for 8 months????

    Can you lighten the resistance on the trainer some? Some days I just barely touch the resistance wheel to my back wheel, some days I make it snug and therefore harder to pedal. It's why I don't feel bad when I only ride the trainer for 20 or 30 min. To me it feels like an hour out on the road. It'll get easier, you just went from no resistance to lots of resistance. Give it time.

    What TriGirl said...also, use your gears. I have a fluid trainer and when the cylinder touches the wheel I give it another half a turn. If it slips when pedaling I give tighten it a bit more. I have a compact and on the trainer I use the lower gear in the front then change gears through my trainer ride in the back. I ride the trainer for 7-10 miles and that is it. 7 miles take about 30-35 minutes and 10 miles 45-50 tops. Keep in mind that trainer miles is equivilant to more road miles. Someone else might have more info on that part.

    I rode outdoors. did about 15 miles. Still real; dark, although I am seeing more folks on the rail trail

    It felt like an Indian Summer day. It was nearly 80F! I did an urban exploration bike ride. I'm looking to buy my own place and so I've been lurking around neighborhoods to see where I would like to live. It was great fun, and quite useful. There are some condos that I was interested in--a renovation of a historic building. After riding to it and around it, I decided no way--the condos all have old window a/c units. If the developer skimped on upgrading the HVAC system, what else did he cut corners on?? Since it's a condo, it's not something I could upgrade for my own unit. I wouldn't have seen that if I had just driven by in my car. Great neighborhood, though.

    Oh, and the local university decided to test out their new VERY LOUD siren alert system right when I was in the midst of the university. It went on for about 10 minutes. My ears are still ringing.

    I guess I did about 10 miles, but I don't have a computer on my urban bike.
