Any Riders In Sacramento

Once my collarbone is healed I plan on making up six weeks of non riding and I was wondering if there are any other sacramento riders on TE.

I live in midtown! But I am a terrible rider and my mountain bike and I are not on speaking terms.

In 30 days when I am cleared to ride again, I will be buying my first rode bike. I have it all picked out, just needed one more road test before I bought it, but broke my collarbone the day before. I usually ride my mountain bike on the American River Trail every weekday morning around 5:30. I can not wait to get my road bike and do this!!!!!!!!!

Which part of the trail do you ride?

I pick up the trail where Arden dead ends in the park. I usually turn left and go over the bridge heading to Folsom. I know the park there has a name, but I am not sure of it.

The park closest to Arden is William Pond Park, the one on the other side of the river is Goethe Park. That's part of our usual path -- we start at the 19th Street connector downtown (just a few miles west of Discovery Park), and then we usually ride up to the Fair Oaks Bridge and back. Or my husband goes on up to Hazel and I turn around and find a good place to read a book in the shade; I'm pretty lazy.

If I lived further east I would probably do regular morning rides on the bike trail by myself, but the 19th Street area is pretty sketchy and I am not comfortable riding there alone. And I felt that way before they found two dead bodies there in the space of a couple of weeks!

Once I have my road bike I will be all over the trail. I know what you mean about being scared, a friend of mine was riding by when the second body was found.

The only part that I find even slightly scary is the area between the Guy West Bridge and Discovery Park, and unfortunately that is the part that is near me. Not all of that stretch is scary, exactly, but I would not like to be fixing a flat alone out there. And even on the bike, I once had someone step in front of me like he was trying to force me to stop on the 19th Street bridge, and we have seen guys walking around carrying hammers and crowbars out there. I don't ride that alone, which really bums me out, but I just don't feel like it's safe.

You'll avoid that section, though, if you just go straight on to Discovery Park. It's really our little connector to the trail that is the worst part. It sucks because that is three blocks from our house, but most of the time we wind up riding from Sac State, instead.

Hi-
I live in Sac and usually ride the ARBT a few times a week, from 19th St to Hazel. Sometimes not as far due to time, etc.

I'm a bit uncomfortable riding the bike trail alone now too, especially since hearing about the bodies. I always found the area from 19th ST to the 160/RR tracks crossing to be sketchy.

I have not been on my bike for about a year. I am an experienced rider that is out of shape. I need to get my legs back and this extra 10 pounds off. I posted to Craigslist and found someone that can ride maybe 1-2 times weekly. I am looking to ride at least 3-4 times per week. I have a trek 2200, and I am 2 minutes away from the Hazel/Fish Hatchery exit American River Bike trail. I like to ride around Lake Natomas?? I am open to riding other areas.
