socal - GMR ride saturday, sep 2

    To disable ads, please log-in.

bike forums is doing a GMR ride this saturday, the 2nd at 8 a.m.

an invitation has been offered to any TE members that would like to come along!

here is the very large thread! but pertinent information has been updated into the 1st post! so you don't need to read the gizzilion posts following if you don't want!

riders of ALL levels will be there.... you can chose to do just the GMR to village portion... or if you are feeling feisty... continue on up to baldy! it's a GORGEOUS ride.... and the GMR part is VERY VERY doable! (i did gmr to the village as a new rider of 6 weeks... so it IS doable!!!!)

    *************
Water: It is supposed to be very hot. You must carry enough water to get you to Baldy village. That's about 24 miles and 4000 feet of climbing.

Route: Glendora Mountain Rd (GMR), Glendora Ridge Rd (GRR), Baldy Rd to the ski resort. Out and back. Optionally rest at Baldy village (intersection of GRR and Baldy Rd) while waiting on those who head to the ski resort. Optionally return by way of Claremont and La Verne. Route is 41-58 miles with 4000-7600 vertical feet. (On the shortest route, virtually all the climbing is in the first 24 miles.)

Logistics: Roll at 8 AM from the intersection of GMR and Boulder Springs Dr in Glendora, CA. People--epecially faster riders--are encouraged to find ride partners from within the group and take off in smaller groups. Note that there is no water for the first 24 miles and nearly 4000 feet of climbing. Make sure to carry enough water to cover that distance without a refill.

This is a no-drop ride for slower riders. I will lead the no-drop group at least until the intersection of GMR and GRR. At that point, we may split into smaller groups as appropriate to allow those who intend to go to the ski resort to go on ahead. There will always be someone comfortable with leading the way in the last group on the road, either myself or someone else. For the no-drop group, official regroup points on the way up will be the intersection of GMR and GRR, Baldy village, and the ski resort parking lot.

Riders: All riders welcome. The following people are currently signed up. We would love to have you join us.

(i left out the list of sign ups... you can see that at BF!)

hope some of you can come!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I'm definitely going up to the lifts. I've never ridden beyond the village before......therefore I also need photographic documentation.....and I'm sure others would love that too... I even spent a couple of hours last night modifying my camera for this ride....

I live in the area, my group does GMR about once a month, like Caligirl says, water. There is no water at the top of GMR, there is a fire station before you get to the gate, they always give us water.
