rode with a new group today...

and it was fun... a fairly leisurely ride of 32 miles... unfortunately it was so stinking hot and HUMID (humid??? in SOCAL? What is up with THAT? ) that it was a rather sticky ride...

was riding along and saw a yellow recumbent coming toward me... with a guy who was 6'7"... of course, that made it pretty easy to ID my friend Ron! LOL... pulled off to chat with him for a minute, but the group was still rolling and I didn't know the route so I took off to chase them down... got on to a river route and went the the WORST field of bugs I've ridden thru... YUK! Stuck to my arms, legs, chest, neck, thru my helmet vents and in my hair...and I was being pretty cool about it til I realized one was crawling across the lens of my glasses. AAAAACK! Too close for comfort...

so we ontinued on... and then it happened... one of the guys hit a rock or a stick, and then hit a rather large bump a second later... threw his front wheel, he tried to correct and no go. He went down HARD He was laying there shaking so we called 911... broke his collarbone, ripped some new holes into his arms and legs etc.

Got him transported in the ambulance and finished our ride... overall an enjoyable, if exciting and somewhat scary, ride.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".

How scary watching that guy go down! Thank goodness you are OK.
