    Question Riding during your "cycle"

    To disable ads, please log-in.

How do you deal with riding during "that time of the month?" I mean, even with a tampon there is usually some degree of leakage, and I don't want to mess up my nice shorts. But a pad could chafe. Just wondering what you all do.

Oh, goodness! Do a forum search on the Diva cup and be prepared to read for awhile! Many ladies here swear by this product and one other that I cannot remember the name of.

There are a bunch of posts on the diva/mooncup that you should find easily with a search. I highly recommend trying the diva cup or the mooncup. It allows you to ride without discomfort or leakage (once you figure out how to put it in correctly).

I've tried to embrace the Diva Cup, but I can't get it right. I've had mine for over two years and it just doesn't work for me. Oh, and yes...I've trimmed the stem

I have yet to ride during a cycle (only had my bike for 1 cycle, it rained that week) but I'm planning on just trying a tampon & going with that.

Okay...here goes a TMI moment. Ummm...make sure that the string is tucked and not hanging out where there will be pressure on it. The first ride I took while on my cycle, I was in great pain in the girlie bits. I couldn't figure out what was different until it dawned on me that it was the tampon string! Amazing how one little string in the wrong spot can cause that much discomfort.

Call me weird. I wear pads. Never had a problem when on my cycle. I use thin pads and keep an extra in my bag.

Ironically I got my period while on the aids ride, completly off cycle as did a lot of women on the ride. Luckily I had supplies with me.

I'm lucky I guess, riding actually relieves my pain and discomfort.

    Find what works for you.

    I wish you luck.

I've ridden with pads and it wasn't a problem. Of course, those weren't long rides so take with a grain of salt, but I thought there would be some difficulty and there wasn't.

And then there was the day I thought I didn't need one, and ooops, I wasn't quite through. Luckily, the chamois absorbed it and with black shorts, nothing showed. (Plus, there wasn't a lot to show.)

    Diva cup/Keeper

Wrensmom, I'm so glad you asked about this.....I've never heard of this before - I need a Diva cup a.s.a.p!!!! I'm supposed to do a MS150 Training ride on Sunday, and may need to cancel because a visit from "Aunt Flo". I'm perimenapausal, and it's a huge issue.
I just did a search on the Diva site, and they sell them at Whole Foods!
Thanks so much for the information, I'm going to try to find one of these today!

You might want to try the mooncup (from the UK). It is MUCH shorter. This is what I use now. The Diva cup was too long, no matter how short I cut the tip.

There are cups and then there are cups?

I am curious about these cups. I tried a disposable cup that was available in supermarkets in the US (I can't remember the name) I leaked every time I sat down with one of those. I am hesitant to try anything else, though I like the idea of a cup. Has anyone had bad luck with leakage on one product, and sucess with another? I've worn a diaphram, so I beleive I know how to place something like this.
