Think that frog can give me and my bike a lift up hills?

Toad, not frog. Way different! They have a personality for one!

When I was a kid, I had toads, and (why??) I used to pretend they were jumping horses, and I would build these courses for them and have competitions...They were always very cooperative.

When I was a kid, pretty much anything I came in contact with had the potential to be an imaginary horse: my poodle for instance. But nothing can beat my cousins in Texas, who made believe cockroaches were horses and built little harnesses for them, and made them pull little matchbox wagons.

Wouldn't life have been simpler if our parents had just provided real horses?

    Oops, I drifted.

Well - taxonomically speaking, they are both in the order Anura (which covers frogs and toads). They are just different taxonomic families. Soooooooooo you were pretty close. Just remember - toads are lumpy

And that cute little smile. And they aren't all panicky. And they only make little hops, not huge wild leaps. And they don't stick to things. And they sing in a pretty high voice, and vibrate while doing so. And they have those beautiful gold and black eyes.

And they give rides to mice. How humanitarian, the toad!

That mouse hasn't quite learned how to go about it, has he?:

Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING--absolute nothing--half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.
